Story: Wanderlust Through Time

they're not the main characters of WTT like percy was for farefair (sorry martha and diana) but i've been microwaving them so much recently and i rushed to draw alwyn for this ask cuz the digital art of her is really old and really bad

(Basic synopsis for Wanderlust Through Time: time travelling regency lesbians enemies to lovers)

They're both what i've been calling "Acquaintances", ie people who weren't pilots in the (Time) Machine/N.E.W.T., but that Martha/Diana (and other pilots but shhh about them) meet throughout their travels.

(1950s newscaster voice) Are you transgender? Have you ever wanted to shoot the people who misgender you without any consequence? Maybe you just want to be a cowgirl! May I interest you in Dolly, who DOES threaten to shoot and shoot the people who misgender her! (Good for her!)

Alwyn is a typical Gibson Girl from 1900 Wales, and due to shenanigans brought on by Martha and Diana, gets badly wounded shortly after meeting them. Martha and Diana bring her to the Machine to try and see if it has anything to help, but instead the Machine, which has always been broken and taking days to travel around where and when it decides to, boots up, and starts to travel. Martha and Diana have no way of knowing where or when it's going, so it's a nice surprise when they arrive, after an hour or so of time traveling (the shortest trip M&D have had), at Dolly's house, in the 1880s in the wild west of America.

Dolly fixes Alwyn up, and by then, Martha and Diana have already had to leave because the Machine started back up and it Will leave without them, so Alwyn stays with Dolly.

They get close, Alwyn falls in love when Dolly threatens to (and nearly shoots) a man (understandable), the usual. Alwyn plays the old piano Dolly has in her home that hasn't been touched Dolly's mother passed. Dolly teaches Alwyn how to shoot a gun. And they live happily ever after.

I’m taking Quinn being an undercover cop to the whole next level/j anyways I was thinking it would be cool if Quinn had multiple identities for his different undercover missions 🤔 because if he used the same name and appearance, people would figure him out quickly so he has to be ✨ deceptive and fashionable ✨ so he uses different names and aliases to try and catch criminals,,, and one day he tries to find a crime ring and runs into Methe who’s just doing Methe things and it plays out from there 🧐

Being a well known detective was one thing, going undercover was another. Sometimes, they did overlap, and one such case was when he was looking for an infamous crime lord.

The alias he was given by his superior had probably something to do with the cloudy day, since he kept looking out. Even his codename was “Cloud”.

There was once when he was hanging out in an alley, and he suddenly saw someone different.

It was a short woman with odd clothing. Something that didn’t look like a citizen, but was someone this flashy really a criminal?

“Hey.” He quietly called out, and the woman turned to look at him. She was quite eccentric looking, even to her strange visors.

“…Do you have a lighter?”

He almost thought she was a child, so he was mightily surprised when she pulled out one from her pocket, even more surprising, it was the same one he used.

“Sure! What are you doing alone?” She seemed friendly, almost too much, but she likely wasn’t one of his targets…

Perhaps they chatted a bit too long, and Methe, the strange lady whose full name was Prometheus, brought him to a bar once he finished his cigarette.

“Oh, you’re looking for a… Drake R…something, right?”

“Wait- how did you know?”

“Well, I know lots of things!” She leaned closer, perhaps the alcohol had started getting to her, though neither of them ordered anything too strong, “I even know who you are, and what you’re really doing.”

He almost jolted in surprise, but kept his cool long enough for her to continue. “Well, I got no interest in helping either of you, buuut you’ve been so nice, I’ll do you a favour, yea? How about we meet back here, 3 days from now?”

“Is there any catch?”

“Just be my friend, that’s all!”

He was in complete disbelief, but 2 days later, he found the crime lord dead. In the police’s mail, they even got a whole document of every chargeable thing the gang was doing. It was signed P, and Quinn immediately knew who was behind it all.

It was certain that she was no mere human, but Quinn was glad she was a friend. And the mere next day, he waited at the bar, swirling a cup or brandy out of boredom.

“Heeey, like my gift?” She suddenly tapped his shoulder, with the officer jolting.

“…Sure there’s no catch for this?” Quinn asked, still nervous.

“Nope! Do you want there to be?”

“Goodness, no!”

@pikked-min - Another of my favorite Pikmin OCs, Yuva! A really interesting and unique character concept with a lot of thought put into the worldbuilding, followed by a strong unusual personality that had me looking at the pikmin world through a new perspective entirely. Please, someone, give them some sunglasses. Read the fic it's so good

Also I want to share some more lore this site brings up. Because it also gives us some juicy Wraith Lore(tm) and some possible explanations for why some ships crash and others don't.

Normal/Flying/Enigma - or 'Larry is a goddamn Christmas present, and here's what I found when I unwrapped him'

... Fucking Larry, huh? Mad guy. Absolutely unhinged set of pixels. He's got as many interpretations as days in the year - autism, depression, the working man stereotype, 'just a dude', to name a few - but... and I know this is a bold claim, but I think I've got him figured out. I've already meta'd him before on a smaller scale, and concluded that Mister Quiet, Calm and Collected here is actually a secret showman who loves crowd approval, so let's carry on.

Let's work our way under his skin, yeah? You just sit there and eat onigiri king, take a well-deserved break.

Let's start with the obvious: Larry has no clue who he is. He gives you the Facade TM, tells you he hopes you have no need to put on the same front as him, and then during his rematch says this on why he loves Normal types:

... Which is all well and good, right? Fair, valid, pretty regular guy - except oh no wait, hang on, he is literally the least ordinary trainer in this franchise.

This right here is a perfect example of the duality of Larry already, and we've just started. He's a showman, an exhibitionist in the Pokemon arena, and he duel-serves as Elite Four and gym leader.

Just to put that into context for those fans who are newer than my veteran ass, no one does that. Even those who got promoted later - Lance, Koga and Wallace, unless I'm forgetting anyone else - have never wielded two titles simultaneously. And even in their promotions, Lance, Koga and Wallace keep their damn types. They don't master a whole new one, at the highest of battling levels, on a goddamn whim because their boss said to. Whether he likes it or not, by the established standards of this series, Larry is a fucking genius. Even those with mixed teams don't hold type mastery to this degree. Whether or not you personally found him easy or difficult to defeat either time is not the point - literally, no one's doing it like he is. He trains four entire new team members, between his three jobs (because oh yeah, he's got another one), to the late fifties/early sixties in levels and acts like it ain't shit. That's endgame levels to anyone else, the culmination of their eighteen-badge journey or their literal years of training - for Larry, it's fucking LEISURE TIME. Man's doing this in front of Netflix.

... And we're supposed to believe he's NORMAL? And the thing is, I don't even think he's gaslighting us, at least not consciously - he genuinely believes this. This is his normal.

No wonder Geeta sticks him in the gym right next to Area Zero. 90% sure he could solo the place if you gave him a few hours to go and catch the right team. Don't even know what we're doing here, to be quite honest. Might as well go home and hug the Skwovet in my own lounge, the adorable little bastard. What the honest fuck.

My man, take a look in that mirror as you munch those delicious rice balls. There ain't a single thing regular about you. Larry seems to have no clue that his life is anything but standard - he walks around wearing a facade. His penultimate mon, which I've covered the significance of before with Flapple and Hassel (and with Larry himself here), is Staraptor, a lone wolf, who leaves the flock upon evolving to live alone, and yet his ace Flamigo only functions well in a group. Just a quick compare-and-contrast between the dex entries of them both here:

Thing is, right... if he walks around wearing a facade, why does he? In fact, whilst we're on the subject of his team, why doesn't he take his clearly vacation-themed team ON A VACATION?

Palm trees, tropical birds, blue skies with clouds, and... well, Staraptor's clearly his favourite. Man's got a holiday-themed squad, which leads us to another core point:

Larry doesn't drown himself in work because he likes it, he does it because he doesn't have anything else.

Logically, Larry must make bank. We don't know what the gym leaders get paid - though for the first time, we know that they definitely do, thanks to this:

And not only does he get paid from this, but he's in the Elite Four - every sensible conclusion says that this man has to be one of the highest-paid trainers in Paldea. And he's got a third job that we don't even know about. Bearing in mind that every other adult NPC in this game seems to get along just fine with one or two jobs, I don't think we need to remotely worry about Larry's finances.

And he doesn't particularly like any of his jobs, so he doesn't do them for love... and if he doesn't take any time off, he must be drowning in potential time to take off...

So, why doesn't he go on holiday? Why does he drown himself in work he dislikes when he has no financial need to; why does he live a lie; why doesn't he find out who he is?

Well, there's only one thing that really connects all that together, isn't there?

Larry's life is a void because he's alone.

When people are lost, they throw themselves into work to find purpose. What's the point of going on holiday when you've got no one to go with? This man does embody a stereotype perfectly, but it's probably not the one you think. It's much simpler - 'money can't buy you happiness.'

He tells you about this loneliness himself, in a way.

Larry has normal and regular interests, in a world where he is anything but, and people only want to be surprised. No one gets him, whether because they're not on his battling level, or because he's too ordinary. And when no one gets you... how are you supposed to get yourself? However introverted we are, we experience ourselves partly through others. He has the Elite Four, who are 100% a found family, but... the problem with that is that they accept him at face value because they love him. Which is amazing and all, we adore that, but it means no one gets under his skin.

And the further problem of that is that he's no happier deep-down. And that's not on his colleagues, not at all. Rika is relaxed and easygoing, Poppy is a child, and Hassel... well, Hassel is drama, Hassel is married. Hassel has his own perfect love story already. Hassel has already seen someone a little bit like Larry before - directionless, depressed, unsure of his own self - and he went and promised him forever anyway. (Hello Brassius, I see you king. Be careful on that windmill.)

... And that... yeah, that's kind of the crux of it all. Larry needs him someone very much like Hassel; someone who sees through every layer of facade, someone who accepts. (... I realise this is me right now, and yes, I do volunteer as tribute. Come here, you beautiful fucking not-normal man. <3)

Essentially, what I'm saying is...

Larry needs a partner... and I don't mean another Pokemon one.

But, as sad a conclusion as that is... he's learning, by the end of your time with him.

(Can we talk about the chef lady in the background, by the way, who is ignoring her TikTok to listen to his conclusion? What a sweetheart.)

We've taught him to open himself up a bit, to start embracing the new and the different. We've started to help this man, and if that isn't the most worthy thing my Nuzlocke son Juan here has done in his adventure through Paldea that wasn't helping a sick dog, I don't know what is.

As much as they annoy us sometimes, happiness is other people. Other people who see your soul, and smile. Perhaps he doesn't even need a romantic partner... perhaps he just needs the world's best friend.

But whatever it is that he needs... let him go on holiday, Game Freak. Let him be him, and very happy because of it. Give him a Hassel who isn't Hassel, and a month off at a certain DLC festival to spend with them. Larry exists in a club of one - he's too talented in the same breath as he's too average.

(Personally, I think he should take Katy, but... hey, that's me and my vanillacupcakes agenda. And the fact her ace is a Normal type who likes dessert.)

How did Alph, Brittany and Charlie join the rescue corp?

Well not quite sure on the specifics yet but timeline wise for my Au: After Louie and Olimar joined the corps n went to go deal with the mother wraith crashing ships problem (along with saving the koppites who had all gotten separated again), Alph, Brittany, and Charlie finished the mission they were sent on and went home. At Koppai, the three have their own home world adventure about stopping shitass government (tm) for about 3 months. After all that drama was over the three were all now out of a job since their missions to pnf were funded by said government. Thankfully around the same time Louie and Olimar were being prepared for a return to 404 to deal with the glow wraith/ harbinger permanently. Wanting more crew with more experince on 404 and already knowing them they were asked to join the corps and accepted. Now they're all on a team together n got one goal of stopping one goopy mfer. ..Unfortunately upon coming back to 404, harbinger had a good feeling what they were trying and instantly crashed them, seperating all 5 from each other and the ship too.

I did that??? Me???" that contrasts so hard with his past feelings of powerlessness and inadequacy that is just 😙👌 muah chef's kiss. And having him PROTECT someone? After the battle's over he's seeing that they're safe because of HIM? And also he don't treat Mishima like canon does in this house, he gets APPRECIATED and THANKED and SOUGHT OUT FOR SAFETY?? Makes him 404 a little to be honest.

Funny you bring that up, actually! I was writing my Mishima fic and was making a scene about him yelling at others! He loses his shit after someone repeatedly disrespected his boundaries that he very clearly set and explained out lodu to everyone. The goal here was to show he's not getting stepped over by anyone again, and he finally speaks up for any toxic/abusive behavior.

It's honestly pretty weird being an extrovert and rather sociable person but to have such a low drive or desire to be a part of a group or identify with others or experience acceptance from others or really all that much particular bonding with people.

Like I really don't have a concept of wanting approval or acceptance from groups / society that share a similar experience and I don't really have much of a concept of that for that even with close friends and people other than the fact that it gets annoying to have someone trying to see you in a way that isn't accurate. Like, I'm sure that sounds the same but its the difference between wanting people to accept you and wanting people to stop putting in their opinions on your life - one you can't fix by cutting someone off, the other you can.

But at the same time I have a huge social need and so I really thrive off of either A) superficial / onesided social interactions that tend to happen in workspaces - no strings attached socializing or B) leadership positions / creating groups where people follow us instead.

And as a result, I really don't want to be a part of a "group" and I don't really care for having people who are close to me (save for like my fiance / one person who I can have the emotional energy to actually be invested into), but I also constantly find myself in large leading roles in social groups and flocking a large amount of attention and people around me because its really the only kind of dynamic I'm both motivated to have and comfortable in.

Like I know its cause our attachment is largely avoidant (disorganized overall cause in specific cases we can be ambivalent / mixed) and so this concept of wanting someone to like you / care for you / accept you / welcome you / give you warm space to be in a learning position just.... Also is the cult about Ink. Is that what I’m seeing here. I mean, I’m down for it either way, but! Clarification!!!

I don't know the proper word for it (like if it would be called an implant or a prosthetic) but basically: Ink sustained a pretty big injury during his journey (which is related to both his Diancie and the cult), and he needed something like a surgery or some tool to be able to walk properly again. The original idea was to have him missing an eye, but I went with a more subtle choice.

And no, the cult is about Ink, but he is tied to it through both his Diancie and his role as the Champion. 404 just really likes Ink, lmao. I once joked with my friend about how, since 404's basically the Evil Team Admin, he would "spare" Ink's life just to marry him, but kill Error. Of course, this wouldn't actually happen unless the two were beaten in some way, because 404 can't beat them. At the very least, he can't beat Ink.

But for a bit more information on the cult: On the surface, the organization focuses on things like conservation and restoration of natural habitats and endangered Pokemon. However, the organization also houses the Cult (which I forget if I made a name for it yet, I'll have to check later), which is focused on creating the Perfect World (TM). Perfect people, perfect Pokemon, perfect society... everything must become perfect in this cult's eyes. They're also involved with Ultra Wormholes and Ultra Beasts, so that's fun.

In my family, we were always taught to perceive all the suffering, genocide and stuff like something not that important to concentrate on, something which should be perceived like stuff you can even benefit from if you're smart enough and which you HAVE TO remember with humour - so when I express this mentality on Internet TM and it causes hate waves because most people perceive suffering too seriously... it always makes me go "Error 404". I get it but I don't get it.
