Heya ! I decided to start a Magnus Protocol Journal ! The concept is basically that I will write a short transcript and do a piece of art for each episode.
I'll update it every Thursday, though I will wait at least four weeks after an episode is published to post the page ( avoiding spoilers and all :) ). Note that I won't be tagging spoilers though, mostly because I am waiting before posting.
Anyway, here is the first page, that will do uhhh... the trailer. Please like and rb I spent a lot of time trying to get the chimera right 😭
See you next Thursday for the first episode !

(ep3) CAT2C8175-03042009-22012024
Infection (full body) -/- arboreal [journal entry]
“parasitic-garden-that-whispers-with-the-voice-of-the-woman-he-clearly-murderd-and-sort-of-turns-you-into-a-tree” yes, that is murdered spelled incorrectly, yes that is directly from the script
From what I understand, it appears Dr. Samuel Webber murdered his ex-wife because she'd moved on! still has the same surname but she has moved out. So yeah, this guys NOT okay, then he decides to get scratched up in a garden!
Said garden is "growing wild around the ruins of some bombed-out church." that smells of "an almost overwhelming sickly-sweet rot", and he keeps smelling jasmine.
One of my notes for this episode is "gradual acceptance, embraced end"
my favourite part of this statement, a part that really cements the Strangeness and Acceptance (man really said If i'm gonna become Tree i'm gonna Do It Right);
"my skin is pulling away nicely like blanched tomatoes. My legs will be nonresponsive soon. I need to finalise my position before then ... The roots have freed themselves from the weight of my meat as it sags from my bones and drops to the dirt."
directly followed by
"No greenfly or other parasites. I remain quite healthy."
because yes, that's exactly what I'd describe as Quite Healthy....

TMAp - 001
Old ass computer noises (dial-up is calling me) so we've jumped a very small handful of decades in tech! Big things happening in the FITD (Fear Information Technology Department)
Super fascinating to begin with the departure of an employee, even with the half-joking allusions to others being stuck there; more or less literal than the good ol' Institute?
O.I.A.R. - absurd length for an acronym, especially one you can't turn into a quirky little word. Thank you Office of Incident Assessment and Reports
Gwen is a nepo baby- gotta be someone we know of (Note: Oh Holy fuck Gwendolyn Bouchard. Thank you end credits)
Computers turning themselves on to listen in! Close enough, welcome back cursed tape recorders
I have the sneaky feeling Response 121 (one-to-one?) will have some relevance somehow someway. But who's to say I mean there's definitely not one billion of Chekhov's guns hanging on the wall of every episode alongside the glimmer of a thousand red herrings
Reeeaaallllyy fuckin with the cross referencing system and just how in depth you can get with it. Abhorrent system I love it
Bit the walls of my enclosure hearing Martin's tinny little voice again. Why would you name my son Norris, Alice? Why?
Around 1 in 20 are read aloud by the TTS that began around a year ago- hunch that it's less a random 1 in 20 chance, and more that about 1/20 have something worth being said.
Misfiles can happen- so someone, somewhere, cares a little about properly categorizing the stateme- I mean, cases.
Gwen is an ambitious nepo baby! Good for her, good for her
Some politician wants Colin to make an app, presumably for case submission? Despite how horrible the current malevolent technology presents, of course.
Sam calls The Magnus Institute a 'blast from the past'- me too, buddy.
Ayyyyyy its Jon ! Sorta.
Sam and Alice are exes- personally I would've simply not broken up with either of them, but I guess we'll find out the horrors involved there at some point.
And Colin is onto the malevolent machine! Excellent, always fun to have a character dissolve into justified paranoia from day 1.
On the statemen- erm, cases. The first one feels like The Stranger on steroids, but my fear diagnostics have always been a bit more vibes based than they have any right to be, so who's to say. The second feels obviously like The Eye, but again, on steroids. People are dying left and right here, it seems.
Of course, this could be a universe a little to the left, and our beloved entities are no longer in play! This could be something new, or perhaps they've just finally got their shit together and are sped up or working together. Congrats to the malevolent forces, you seem to be on the winning side.

I think one thing I really like about tmagp so far is how many different forms it’s taking? Like so far we’ve had an email, a chat log, a therapy session/video call, a journal, a letter, a blog, and a 911/emergency call, and I know not every episode is going to be drastically different but it’ll be so interesting to see how many formats they can come up with
It kind of reminds me of how some of the statements during season 5 of TMA were written (there was a poem, a coroner report, a few scientific/medical journals, and I’m sure there were others), and idk what to do with that or if other people have talked about that already but it feels Significant!

Huh. Just noticed something--the date on the police file about TMAGP 3 is April 3, 2009. Setting aside the weird thing where the journal entry isn't dated until several months later--that is curiously close to April 23, 2009.
April 23, 2009 is the date when, in her universe, Anya Villette went to the house on Hilltop Road for a cleaning job.
I had guessed Norris was just searching back through everything in the database, looking for stories that resonated with certain themes --loss of a loved one while still being haunted by their voice, terrible guilt, isolation, loss of humanity, maybe some murder along the way. But if (and I'm holding out hope, but still in camp 'at this point it's only an if') something of him is conscious in there and has enough control to try to communicate / investigate--what if he was originally searching for cases in that specific time period for other reasons? What if he was looking for evidence of Anya's disappearance in this universe--either to understand if that is the reality he's now in, or to try to warn his listeners about Hilltop Road, or both?

Hey, sorry if this is long, but I really like what you guys are doing and have nowhere else to put my theories, so...
Firstly, sorry to be that person, but I actually think you mislabeled the entities for two episodes. Needles reads like an avatar of the slaughter to me. It's like Lietner said, the physical description is less important then the emotional or metaphorical. Needles' thing isn't "look at this scary trick I can do with my flesh body." It's "I am going to cause you intense pain at random by stabbing you with my needles. Please be scared of me :)"
I was also surprised you didn't mark Putting Down Roots as a filth statement. Illness, rotting alive, swarming flies, a deeply unhealthy romantic love. All reads as corruption to me.
Now let's get to my fun crack theory. Episode 7 almost reads to me like the point the powers breached into the new world. Think about it, hilltop road was suddenly overwhelmed by a wave of artifacts and "people" (avatars) that map to many different powers (I counted stranger, slaughter, dark, filth, and possibly hunt among the artifacts present). The timeliness doesn't quite match up (we have a statement from the 1800s), but maybe the powers are capable of having retroactively always existed. Or maybe the fan theory that the entities are now the "hungers" that feed on obsession was true until the fears intruded into the world.
Omg thank you so much for the ask I absolutely love over analyzing this goofy lil podcast and i really wanted to have this board be a collaborative and community thing for all of us TMAG/TMAGP fans out there!
starting with the board corrections you pointed out you are absolutely right after reading this I ended up rereading the wiki entries about the Entities because its been a hot second since I've read up on those goobers and I've kinda forgotten how many little nuances that each one has. I had no idea how we missed the clear corruption tie-ins that were occurring in Samuel Webbers journal (Putting Down Roots) especially when you brought up his toxic relationship to his partner.
As with Needles before doing my reread about the fears I just assumed flesh because body modified with needles. but looking into it, sudden piercing needles more cleanly falls into slaughter.
I actually have this ongoing theory originated by my roommate and other blog contributor that the fears might have been scrambled when crossing dimensions. maybe because of this many minor powers have begun to branch out from the main 15 and with that hybrid avatars and entities have been created. With needles I think maybe they fall under the umbrella of slaughter and spiral because of the way they mentally toy with their victims. also could explain why needles has to convince the man on the phone that they're scary because this hybrid power may be new and people have not gotten fearful of it yet.
I'll be making those changes for next weeks board so thank you for pointing them out :D
on to your theory that would make sense especially since this episode (EP 7) is kind of serving as the catalyst for the story to shift into high gear. I think that if the Hilltop charity shop was the entrance point for all of the fears to enter the world it would make complete sense. Hilltop is the one place in the Magnus canon that people have reported traveling to different dimensions. also the date of the incident falls right about the time that Archives started early 2016 so the fears may have also gone back in time to when Jon became the Archivist in TMAs universe (since Jons death is the catalyst that forced them to jump dimensions.) I'm really liking where your theory is heading
also real quick if anyone has more info about the theory that Protocols world lived off of hunger and desire pre the fears appearing I'd love to hear more about that because I've never heard of the until now.
Again thank you so much for the ask I'm so happy you're liking what we're doing here and I hope you continue to share your thoughts and theories with this blog.

Someone give me a cookie, I managed to listen to the new episode within like 48 hours of the new episode coming out! As usual, this is the standalone version of the weekly post that I also made as a reblog to my main Red String Board, which can be found here. Today is 3/9/24. TMAGP episode 9 released on 3/7/2024.
“Talkers”
Norris (Voice: Martin?/ Alex)
Episode 1: “Reanimation (Partial) -/- Regret [Email]”. The Stranger? The End? The Dark? The Lonely? The Flesh? Arthur (Nolan?).
Episode 3: "Infection (full body" -/- Arboreal [Journal entry]". The Spiral? (Paranoia? Auditory, visual and olfactory hallucinations) The Lonely? The Corruption. The Flesh? (Callbacks to the Flesh Garden from S5)
Episode 8: "Architecture (liminal) -/- hunger [coursework]". The Spiral. The Lonely. (Statement giver has an ex-wife. Witnesses strange mist. Fog?) The Stranger? The Vast. The Flesh. The description of the space reminds me a bit of Mag 150: Cul-De-Sac. The description of the diners and the way they were speaking reminds me of Mag 48: Lost in the Crowd.
Common Themes: Hearing the voice of a dead/ missing loved one? Loneliness
Chester (Voice: John?/ Jonny)
Episode 1: “Transformation (eyes) -/- Tresspass [chat log]”. Magnus Institute, The Eye. (Involves a forum; the Web?).
Episode 5: "Disappearance (undetermined) -/- Invitation [Internet blog]". The Eye (Movies. Movie name: "Voyeur" "Must be seen to be believed"...). The Web? (Another website?). (Very reminiscent of Mag 110: Creature Feature.) The "poor old guy" at the theater is totally an Eye avatar, right? Kinda gives me "Simon Fairchild when he was first introduced" vibes.
Episode 7: "Agglomeration (miscellany) -/- congregation [email]". The Stranger. The Burried. The Desolation. Possibly all of them if my theory about the items the Volunteers brought in is correct...
Unsure if this is Eye related like the other statements were. This is also the first "Chester" statement where the source material wasn't from a website or blog, which don't have the same expectation of privacy that the sources of the other statements do. Email, though, so still internet related, and this seems to be an open letter rather than personal correspondence, so it still might align with the theme.
Episode 9: "Dice (bone) -/- fate [Magnus Statement]" Flesh (blood)? The Dark (blown lightbulbs)? Web. (The dice aren't random. Nobody ever says no to rolling them. The way the statement giver describes his experience almost sounds like addiction, which is also Web affiliated).
Are these the same dice that were in the bag of The Merchant from TMAGP 4? Common theme continues to be Eyes/ The Magnus Institute and The Web (either internet-related or an artifact of The Eye like in TMAGP 7)
Agustus: (rare?)
Episode 4: “Collection (blood) -/- musical [letter]” The End. The Lonely? The Slaughter.
Letter writer thinks passing on his violin might allow a part of himself to live on in his nephew. Very Jonah Magnus of him.
Music teacher hears “faraway music”, then goes crazy and throws himself out of the carriage and dies. Reminiscent of Mag7 and the Piper? The merchant’s wares include dice (Mag 29?). Got the violin from him (took his blood?). Effect of the violin reminiscent to Grifter’s Bone (Mag 42).
(Oliver Bardwell lol very funny guys)
Non-Talkers (?)
Episode 2: "Transformation (full) -/- dysmorphic [video call]". The Spiral? The Flesh. The Stranger. Ink 5oul (avatar/ entity?)
Episode 6: "Injury (needles) -/- intimidation [999 call] "Corruption? The Spiral? The Flesh? The End?
"Needles" reminds me of Michael!Distortion.
Notes and Thoughts:
...Sam's filling out the paperwork because he feels compelled to do it? Does the paperwork also have spiderwebs on it?
This might be nothing but the statement giver for Mag144: Decrypted was also named Garry.
There was something incredibly cozy about hearing Jonny's voice reading a good old fashioned Magnus Institute statement. So I posted a while ago about my theory that in TMA, the Magnus Institute was not only affiliated with The Eye but also The Web, and that John (and Gertrude before him) was an avatar of both The Eye and The Web (hence their ability to compel statements and stuff). (If you haven't read it, you can find the whole thing here.) Everything "Norris" just reaffirms that theory. All of his statements have had two things in common: they have been related to the Magnus Institute or the Eye, and they have had something web related about them. TMAGP 1 and 5 were a forum and a blog, which are both websites, which is something that has previously been associated with The Web (eg: In MAG 123: Web Development). They are also the only statements that didn't have the expectation of privacy/ limited audience that the other statements have. And if the dice from this episode aren't Web aligned, idk what is. The only exception to this seems to be TMAGP 7. It was an email, which is still internet related--also now that I'm thinking about it, it was set on Hilltop Road which we all KNOW is web aligned--but there doesn't seem to be an obvious Magnus Institute or Eye theme to that one though. Was it the fact that it was set on Hilltop Road? Was it the security firm? Am I on to something my theory that the "good cause" was a summoning ritual that required artifacts or actions related to all of the Entities, in order to maybe summon a certain someone we all know and love who was touched by all of the Entities into the TMAGP world (a certain someone who was made Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, London in 2015 in TMA, which is the same year that statement took place)?
I recall also saying in my post with my "The Institute was part of The Web" post that I'll believe Teddy fully left the OIAR for good when I believe it. How convenient that he ended up being laid off from the job he left the OIAR basically immediately; I'm starting the countdown until he ends up getting his old job back (or turns up dead) now.
-
Idk what's funnier about the dedication at the beginning: the fact that it was probably written before the person who wrote it knew the details of Protocol and the whole "voices in the computer" thing, or the way Jonny read it.
