APPRECIATE THIS WITH ME

Massive glowy ray spiraling towards them. They are seconds from death and that adrenalized fear kicks in instantly.

Donnie’s big brain recalls his previous thievery and darts for his brothers. There’s no time for a run down of his plan. He’s just hoping to keep them all together so that no one is left behind in this last-ditch effort to not die.

His older brothers have no idea why Donnie just tackled them to the ground. Their brains are still in panic mode and they aren’t noticing the fact that he’s messing with a doohickey, caught up in their impending doom.

Yet, both hands instinctively rise in an action that is more subconscious than conscious.

Then they come to the same conclusion. Little brother must be scared out of his mind and is clinging onto them in his last moments.

So they both cling back, pulling him closer to them (and in turn making their little huddle shrink down) and dragging him deeper into the impromptu hug. Their hands latch onto his shoulders (which is often done when they are attempting to comfort or ground each other) and Leo’s hand locks around his wrist with Raph’s hand wrapped around Donnie’s.

All of their eyes close as they focus on this piece of the moment instead of the ray or their fear, taking in the hug that’s likely their last.

They appear in the ship. There’s a better close-up of their huddle, with Leo and Donnie holding tightly to their brothers, eyes squeezed shut in preparation, and Raph seeming more relax, as if he accepts what’s coming.

Even after they realize that they are no longer in the immediate danger, they continue clinging to their young brother as they slowly adapt to the lack of it.

Even after Raph lets go to scold Donnie, Leo continues to cling, even leaning closer to Donnie when his little brother ducks down in fear, subconsciously trying to offer comfort as he finally processes their surroundings.

Raph yelling at/going to punch his little brother after a tight, loving hug is such a Raph thing to do. He is no longer accepting of death. He knows only violence and angy.

Okay, but also a little later, both brothers are crouched protectively- Donnie hasn’t yet moved. Leo and Raph pull back to get in battle positions; Leo’s left hand loose to pull out a katana; Raph’s right hand clenched into a fist, ready to bounce to their feet if one of the alien dares approach to take their other little brother.

There’s so much to love about the small details/moments of this show. I don’t care how lovey-dovey other iterations may be, no one can convince me that they aren’t a loving, affectionate family.

(late) TMNTember, Day 3 + 8: Space heroes + Team B

Alright, I haven’t been posting in a while cuz I’m on my last year in middle school and it’s killing me. It made it difficult for me to get on track and to post on time. There WILL be a “few” days skipped, because I am most exited about other days that require a LOT of time and effort, so I HAVE to do it BEFOREHAND to post them on time, just to express how much I love TMNT, and how I recently got to join this community by participating in TMNTember. I’m somewhat of a perfectionist that every time I look at my drawing, I would find some mistakes and would “improve” it and would “adjust” on Tumblr. Please understand and thank you all fellow TMNT fans!!

He straight memorized the map

I love how the series goes from Donnie needing a map to find their way through the sewers in Season 1, Ep 14:

“Snakeweed’s Lair should be around here somewhere…”

To Donnie knowing every inch of the sewers like the back of his hand and literally leading his family through every escape hatch and to each destination in Season 4, Episode 20:

“Up ahead. It’s not far.”

“This way. Hurry!”

“This is the same station Karai held us captive. Remember? When she poisoned us.”

“I’ve got a fix on Splinter. He’s in the Under City.”

“That’s where he fought the Rat King! Come on! I know a short cut!”

Seriously. This kid never ceases to find way to make himself useful.
