🖤or 💜 or 💛!
(Sorry for taking a bit of time to reply!! I wanted to answer all of them hehehe)
🖤 Black: Do you think about your story when you're not physically writing it? Does it help with plotting scenes, character arcs, etc.?
Yes, always... Most of my stories begin with rotating ideas in my head, so concepts and ideas, even dialogue, will usually have to exist as a starting point before I actually write anything down. And for actual plotting - I really like using outlines and outline almost everything I write, so really it is a thing where I will be thinking about a fic and then a random moment will turn into an outlining moment if I go to write new ideas down :D
💜 Purple: Name one song you're listening to while writing your next/current fanfic. How or why does it help the writing process?
Ahh... I wasn't really listening to anything while writing my most recent fic xD Actually, listening to songs with lyrics while writing can be tricky for me, I prefer to listen to music while doing the aforementioned rotating ideas in my head thing 😁 One EXTREMELY fitting todolf song though is Poison by Alice Cooper... everyone listen right now... don't want to touch you but you're under my skin (deep in) etc
💛 Yellow: Do you ever alter, highlight, or de-emphasize certain canonical traits in a character? If so, why and describe how.
Ahh, this is such an interesting thing to think about!!!!
For something like Tod/Death, every writer has to kind of come up with their own interpretation. We never get insight into what he's thinking (kkog doesn't count that's not canon...), we don't have a clear view of his motivations because of the layers and layers of lies by Lucheni (up to the viewer how many layers there are), all we know is that he's There and there is some sort of deep connection to Elisabeth and, to a lesser extent, Rudolf.
However, the more fic I write, the more I write Tod as somewhat of an extension of Rudolf's personality. The idea really is that he's whatever you want him to be, he taps into all your weaknesses and insecurities and approaches them in a way that will be the most effective on you for the purposes of You Know What. Mirrors etc,,,,, Unfortunately for the kind of Rudolf I usually write, this mostly means that tod is pretty b*sm about it AJSJDJJF. So I guess for Tod I tend to emphasize the sexuality aspect which is a side effect of the kinds of fics I write LOL.
Rudolf, on the other hand... I keep saying his canon personality is "sad, queer and rebellious", he is literally on stage for like 10 minutes and most of it is being gay s*x depressed ajsjdjdj. There's a lot of portrayals to pick from... I think one of the main things I do is try to add historical facts into the mix while keeping the canon meow meow personality. Fic Rudolf usually has noble goals but despairs his life away because the environment makes it impossible to fully pursue or reach them - IRL Rudolf was similar but also fanatically obsessed with hunting I'm told (by stephanie xD) and a raging misogynist. I guess, though, that the way I write him is influenced by the fact that when the fics take place (because of what todolf is...) we're seeing him at his most private and emotionally vulnerable.
Ooh the question also asked "why"... For Tod the "why" is that I just don't really care about the paranormal entity interpretation, I mean I tried my hand at it with my todesengel fic but even with that I tried to make it fit together with the force of nature interpretation and not "god" or "demon" or idk "Satan" etc. I don't like the god or paranormal interpretations, or stuff that leans too heavily into Tod as a "creature", because 1) it would shift the genre of what I'm trying to write - idk I try to go more for toxic historical fiction metaphysical romance or whatever and not for dark fantasy or paranormal romance, 2) it's hostile to religious beliefs, like, it precludes the existence/validity of other god-like entities in this universe and more "atheistic" belief systems like Buddhism. I don't want to base my fics on a take where, for example, the Christian tradition is in a worldbuilding sense "more true" than another religious system. I think that's lazy and lets author bias show through too much - though perhaps I have a different kind of author bias, as someone raised culturally as a member of a pretty hands-off organised religion, but with a cynical attitude towards its impacts on society XD Anyway um yeah to me Tod is usually more like gravity or temperature and not like an actual Dark Angel King Of The Underworld...
As for Rudolf - I just write him according to personal preference and the theme of whatever fic I'm working on at the moment. Part of it is my reading of historical events (heavy emphasis on the "troubled hero, huge loss of potential" line of thinking) and part of it is just what sorts of performances I like best and want to incorporate into my belief system ajajsjdj.

A few recent posts have made me think a bit about the ending of Elisabeth, specifically whether or not der Tod should carry Elisabeth offstage. I sort of wandered away from where those posts began, so to avoid hijacking them (and because I'm long-winded), I'm putting my thoughts here.
As with a lot of my Elisabeth opinions, it depends on the production/actors, so I'm going to stick with my favourite German-language Tods here, because this is going to be long enough as it is.
I do think there's a case to be made for some Tods carrying Sisi away, but the one for whom I'm most strongly pro-carry is Uwe Kröger. I've said before that Uwe plays der Tod as an actual being, morally grey by human standards, who becomes obsessed with Elisabeth. Whether he loves her in the way most humans would understand the word is debatable (I tend to lean towards no), but in his mind it's love, and he definitely feels something for her that he doesn't feel for the billions of other people who've died throughout human history. And I don't think that abruptly ends when she dies - at least not for Uwe's Tod.
Does this romanticize death and the whole "Elisabeth was in love with death" narrative that the musical's got going on? Sort of, maybe? On the surface, it looks like it follows the "primary couple are happily together at the end" trope. Problem is, one half of the couple is dead; she's not happily anything. But der Tod is still - alive? in existence? whatever he is? - and his feelings for Elisabeth are still there. And it's those feelings, whatever name humans would give them, that make me feel he should carry her off. It's not what I'd call romantic or a happy ending (I mean, it's a German musical; of course it's not a happy ending), but it is in character with what the audience has been seeing from Uwe's Tod for the last couple of hours.
The Tod I think has the strongest argument against carrying Elisabeth off is Máté Kamarás. I really like this interpretation of Máté's Tod - a real being, but one whose feelings are more human-like (in an immature and volatile way) than Uwe's. The linked post pretty much sums up why this Tod should leave Sisi onstage/with the Todesengel: it suddenly hits him exactly what death means, and he recoils from it.
There's also the possibility that Máté's Tod is a narrative tool Lucheni uses to lighten his own guilt, the imaginary puppeteer who directed Lucheni's act of murder. I feel less strongly about der Tod carrying or leaving Sisi in this interpretation. If Lucheni is caught up in telling this twisted romance, then it could make sense for the Tod he imagines to carry Elisabeth away. On balance, though, I think that this Tod should leave her; once she's dead, he's done what Lucheni needed him to do, and there's no reason for him to take any further action. (Side note: I'd like to see a production that leans into the "der Tod is Lucheni's invention" thing, has der Tod leave Sisi onstage, and then has either the Todesengel or a moving bit of the stage carry her body over to Lucheni. Then, faced with the reality of what he's done in the absence of his scapegoat, Lucheni hangs himself, and the curtain falls.)
The Tod who can either carry or leave Elisabeth in my mind is Mark Seibert. This Tod is the darkest of the three, and I like him in part because he's sinister in a way that strongly resonates with my experience of depression. There's nothing romantic about Mark's Tod. Both Elisabeth and Rudolf find him seductive at times (and also terrifying at times, and sometimes both), but he has no feelings for either of them; all he wants to do is destroy them ("mein Auftrag heißt zerstören" rings very true with him). It's obvious in the way he drops Rudolf once he's dead, and the same can be true of Sisi. If anything, he doesn't need to be as gentle as he is in laying her down; he could let her fall just as he did Rudolf.
Having Mark's Tod carry Elisabeth off would work for me if it were made clear that it's in no way tender or caring - if it were very obviously a victory move. He's finally won, and is taking her with him as a trophy. It should be rough, and probably shouldn't be a bridal-style carry like Uwe's Tod does. However, if Mark's Tod carries Sisi off, he absolutely has to take Rudolf too. As the personification of depression, self-loathing, and suicidal ideation, he wins a much more resounding victory with Rudolf, and if he's going to show his triumph over Elisabeth, he'd better do the same for Rudolf.

Happy Birthday Yun-Yun!
Tumblr media
@yumichikah (FOR THE BIRTHDAY BOI!)
Read Mores are for long posts!
Akina and Ikkaku were working hard trying to get a cake made. Of course, Akina was the one to reach out for help with this endeavor. "I have no idea what he likes!!!" Well, she had some idea for the present, so at least there was that. A cake design? Hell no. Flavor of cake? Nope. "I haven't baked a cake for a birthday before, what makes you think I'm capable of this?!" Ikkaku was stirring up a mess. "Well, you didn't say no." There was a grin on Akina's face watching him getting cake batter on the counters. "Probably shouldn't be that messy about it. We're going to have to clean that up." She herself was trying to get the icing ready for after the cake was baked. "I got sparklers off someone in Squad 5!" Yachiru ran into the kitchen and jumped onto the table to see what they were up to, "What's going on!?" "Shhhh!" Akina put a finger in front of her lips, "It's Yumichika's birthday, try to keep it down!" She wasn't one to talk, she was one of the louder people in the squad now thanks to her guitar. A SURPRISE? Well now, Yachiru wanted to help with that! "This place isn't decorated for a surprise party." She looked around at the bare walls and wondered where they could get banners and streamers for this. "I can go get those!" It took her no time at all to run off, so she could go find something to decorate with.
Akina let out a sigh, who else could ruin this? She went back to trying to get the icing dyed for the cake. At least in her mind, she was trying to go for a peacock design. Was it going to work out? Who knows.
"You're missing vanilla and is that salt?" Lyn had cake batter on her finger trying to figure out what they missed, clearly it was vanilla. But was it over salted, or did someone read sugar as salt.
"Wh-" She turned around, and the fourth seat was standing right there. "No way, we couldn't have screwed this up!"
"If it's just too much salt, double the batch. Ain't that hard to unfuckup a cake." There was a shrug of her shoulders, only stepping in the kitchen because of the commotion. Letting out a sigh, she offered a bit of advice, "an' if you want this to be a surprise... don't be talkin' so loud. I can hear ya over some of the squad mates trainin'. Ya're gonna be lucky he didn' already hear ya."
Akina let out a sigh and had no idea what they really could have screwed up and just doubled the recipe. This cake was going to be bigger than she wanted it to be. Maybe they could just make a three tier cake instead of a basic one? So far, this wasn't turning out to be a very good day.
"I told you I had no experience in baking a cake." Ikkaku complained as he finished stirring the mess they had made at this point. "What the hell are we supposed to do with this now, anyway?"
Yachiru would have returned with streamers and banners for a birthday and sat on Kenny's shoulders to get things taped up onto the walls. "Over there Kenny!" She was pointing places out while trying to blow up a balloon. The common room was emptied out, so they could prepare for this surprise. If it even was one now.
Akina started explaining, "In the pans, pans in oven. Then we gotta wait and then ice them after they're cool. Stack them nice and pretty... hopefully, and then try. Keyword, try. To decorate it with the icing, I got all dyed up."
It was starting to feel like a chance in hell at this point, but she was still trying to get this finished up. When was Yumichika supposed to be back anyway? The pans full of batter were tossed in the oven, and it was going to be a long wait til they were done.
After all of the cakes were out of the oven, she started working on stacking them. Now she had no skill with piping icing, but was willing to try. The living did this, right? There were those who did this as a job and then those who did this for a hobby! This can't be too hard, right?
Ikkaku watched Akina stack up the cake, "you need me for anything else other than someone to stir the cake up?"
"I mean, you can stick around if you want and carry this thing out." Though from his tone, it didn't sound like he wanted to. "Or, go find the others and join them for the surprise part." Akina was going to be a while getting this thing decorated. Her skill was in music, not cakes. Hopefully this wasn't going to look like a kid did it.
To him that just meant to head out, so he went to the common room, helping the captain and the co-lieutenant get ready.
Akina was finishing up her work and let out a long sigh, well. It was done and it looked fine to her. It was a cake with a peacock design on it. The cake looked like an amateur made it, but it was better than what she thought it was going to come out. Now the kitchen looked like an absolute disaster went through it. She stuck the sparklers in the cake near the tail feathers she decorated on. "That'll do, I think?"
"HEY!" Yachiru ran in and grabbed the cake with her little hands, lifting it over her head. "He's coming back!" Apparently, a few squad members saw him walking back while they were training outside. She ran out of the kitchen and to the common room with the cake, popping it up on the table.
Akina jumped and ran to her room to grab the present before scrambling back out to the common room with the others. It wasn't a very big present, but she figured he'd love it anyway! Quickly, she lit the sparklers as Yumichika entered the room. And the entire Squad yelled out, "SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY YUMICHIKA!"
