I was the anon from last night about overhaul. I got it wrong it wasn’t him. I could have sworn it was. Maybe i thought that he did because of his hatred towards quirks.

Tho upon rereading some chapters again, there has been a clear bais towards certain quirks. Example would be bakugo and the sludge monster. And how bakugo was getting praised for his quirk where in the end it did not help him and instead made it more difficult for him to be saved since things were on fire because of him shooting off his quirk. And deku being scolded because he was quirkless yet he did more than anyone at the moment and tried to save him.

And then In the heroes rising, chimera tells shoji how he is ugly and must resent his family for his looks, and horikoshi has mentioned that shoji covers his face because he made someone cry. And in the movie chimera states how nine accepted him because he was strong but also mentions how he was looked down upon from his quirk.

The quirk discrimination has been brought up here and there but not very much. I do hope that it comes up more in the story. Especially for spinner. And i would argue that there is still a bit we need to learn about him tho I did fine this panel and all though small, I think shows how life has treated him horribly.

Shows how he views things in comparison to toga, who regardless of how her quirk is viewed is able to live life a lot better than spinner (granted that is if no one knows who she is or her quirk she can get around easier than him). And spinner considers her a freer spirit than himself who is bound to the way he is viewed outwardly. And will always be judged more cruely for his outward appearance.

Then later on during the fight against a LiBeration member there’s this.

So if we go back to deku and how he was treated for not even having a quirk. That hatred and bullying must have been tenfold for characters like spinner and shoji. And the things the liberation guy says adds insight to how he views spinners reasoning for joining the league, which is resentment for being bullied. But nothing more. Just resentment in his eyes. Not seeing the issues he has had to face and continued to face because of his quirk.

So maybe the story will delve more into everything about the quirk classism/bais/hatred that is prevalent in the story’s world.

I don’t know if this adds more to your point about dabi and his views(if it doesn’t add then ignore me). And though I didn’t focus on dabi I did want to add to the discussion but how the story does have a some elements of hatred towards certain types of quirks. And hopefully will be more addressed as the plot continues.

Thank you for the detail! The more you stop and look into it the more you realise this attitude crops up over and over again. I would honestly love it if Horikoshi dedicated a little more focus to it, specifically focusing on how the heroes interact with it. Because it’s not like none of the heroes are heteromorphic. I wonder if they face discrimination within their careers, or if it impacts their likelihood of employment or rate of pay compared to non-heteromorphic quirk users.

BnHA Chapter 325: Deku VS the Outside of U.A. ~Conclusion~

Previously on BnHA: Ochako was all “dear bloodthirsty mob, this kid you see standing before you has fought harder than anyone and put his life on the line to protect you all, so please chill the fuck out, jesus christ. like, putting aside that he’s humanity’s best hope and so it’s very much in your best interests to let him rest and recover someplace safe so that he can keep fighting for us, are y’all seriously going to turn away an injured and exhausted child in front of his sobbing mother?? seriously?? come on now.” I’m paraphrasing here but that’s basically how it went down. Anyway so then the mob was all, “...” and Deku collapsed to his knees in tears, and Gigantic Fox Lady and Kouta ran over to give him a hug but then the chapter ended.

Today on BnHA: Horikoshi is all “FINE, YOU CAN HUG HIM”, which, was that so hard?? The U.A. Clown Mob is all “come to think of it, we’ve kind of been taking the heroes for granted this entire time, maybe we should be less passive in the future. anyway so Deku if it’s not too much to ask, can you please save everyone and fix everything.” Deku is all “I sure can, and by the way I forgive you for swarming around all menacingly two minutes ago and trying to deny me basic shelter and stuff.” Ectoplasm is all, “hey Todogang get a load of this. [walks in a circle].” Hawks is all, “that’s literally the greatest thing I’ve ever seen.” Rat Principal is all, “anyway so that’s what your students did today, hope you’re enjoying your new *~*ROBOT LEG*~*, Aizawa.” Aizawa is all “[lots of exposition about Kurogiri and for some reason, Toga, while being all brooding and sexy].” All Might is all “[standing here right outside of U.A. doing absolutely nothing and being foreboding AF]” and that immediately sucked away all of the warm fuzzy feelings from the hugs, goddammit.

each new week has become a waiting game of “when will Deku finally get to take a bath so people will actually be willing to go near him and give him the hugs he deserves.” the stakes have never been so compelling. I’ve almost forgotten about AFO entirely

incidentally, I hope that anyone who was legitimately defending the civilians’ perspective earlier takes note here of how quickly that line of thinking -- “we’re just trying to keep our families safe” and all that-- can lead to straight up bigotry. if you’re willing to deny a child shelter and protection simply because he’s not YOUR child, and because you’ve decided based on Internet rumors (no real-world parallels there, I’m sure) that he might present a threat, it’s really not that much further of a leap to discriminating against entire groups of people simply because you perceive those groups as being dangerous. I’m sure the people who turned Gigantic Fox Lady away also told themselves afterwards that they did it to protect their families. “better safe than sorry.” “she’ll be fine, someone will take her in, but as for us, we can’t afford to take that risk.” people can come up with all kinds of justifications for treating other people as less than human, and the really scary thing about it is how fucking easy it is

one last quick side note, which is that Horikoshi does a great job here of showing how scapegoating works, given that AFO is the one who’s really to blame and who presents the actual threat, and yet Deku is the one who ultimately winds up being the target of the mob’s fear and outrage despite him being as much of a victim as they are. gotta love that irony, which unfortunately plays out far too often in the real world as well.

anyway I’ll get off my soapbox now, sorry about that. let us continue

BnHA Chapter 266: Sad Naruto Flute Music

Previously on BnHA: Tamaki ate a horse; Dark Shadow punched Re-Destro through a wall; Gigantomachia didn’t want to wake up from his nap; Tokoyami climbed inside of Fatgum’s stomach like a little emo joey and mused about Hawks; Hawks was all “am I evil or no? history shall decide!” and sort of kind of maybe tried to kill Twice; and then Dabi showed up and set the two of them on fire before you could say “stop, drop, and roll.” All of this was a real chapter that really happened. Anyway but then Hawks saved Twice by pulling him out of the fire, which I totally didn’t notice during my first readthrough last week, so that’s nice. But then Dabi stepped on Hawks’s face and used his quirk again. So that was not so nice. We’re really having ourselves an arc, here.

Today on BnHA: Well you know the old saying. Save a man from burning and you feed him for a day, stab him while he’s running away and you feed him for life. Oh, the chapter? Right. Well Hawks is perfectly fine aside from getting a sexy scar for his troubles, which I’ll have you know I did predict. Twice however is not so fine, which, fun fact, I did not predict. If you’re just joining us. Yeah. I boofed it. Anyway so Hawks escapes Dabi using the power of mysterious main character logic, and then he stabs Twice, and Twice dies, very slowly and sadly and in Toga’s arms. That’s it that’s the chapter. You’ll love it. It’s full of feels. And death. Lol I’m in a mood right now I’m sorry guys. I’m gonna go write some healing Bakugou essays.

so as mentioned on the “previously” section above, Hawks saved Twice’s life! meanwhile Dabi apparently arrived in time to listen to Hawks’s “here I go... time to kill you... really gonna do it... here it comes...” speech for at least several seconds before he finally decided to make his grand entrance, as evidenced by him quoting Hawks’s “sentiment” line right back in his face before setting him on fire. so basically Hawks is still okay and villains gonna villain. this is my conclusion and 4 out of 5 dentists approve but you can form your own judgements as well and that’s fine!
