NEW PRODUCT ALERT!
KidCoins! We needed an easy way to reward our kids for positive behavior. We originally had a verbal agreement of "stars". If your child gets up and ready for school in the morning without trouble, they'd earn a star. After 5 stars, they get a trip to the dollar store.
I swooped in made made physical coins with stars on them. We offer small and big stars! In our home, a small star is worth $0.25, or 15 minutes of screen time, and a big coin is 4x that. We reward with stuff like chores and excellent behavior. And use ONE color per child, so they can't steal or trade without parental help.
The piggy banks are made in white, so that they can personally decorate them if desired, ours loved this idea!

Ever write something that's never seen the light of day? Ever write a whole novel that you decide isn't worth editing into shape? I have!
Once upon a time, I had this character I'd written little experimental drabbles about, and I wanted to give her a full book of adventures. When NaNoWriMo rolled around, I went for it: the idea seemed promising. She was a human veterinarian working on an alien world, and things out of the ordinary were happening.
In this case, there was a flying city veering dangerously off course, and escaped animals turned out to be part of the problem. There was another intelligent species on the planet, who were very cool -- they looked like hadrosaurs and were mostly conjoined twins. There were evolutionary and cultural reasons for that. There was a forbidden forest, and lots of interesting characters, and the dangerous alien predators turned out to be allergic to humans.
I had fun writing it! But the end didn't come together in a very satisfying way, and a few other aspects didn't live up to my expectations, and basically I was underwhelmed with the end result.
So I put it aside and did other things, then on a different NaNoWriMo, I wrote out a different idea for the same character. That became A Swift Kick to the Thorax.
At this point, the first book is non-canon, since those dinosaurs with the flying cities aren't mentioned in SwiftKick, and they would have been involved in the interplanetary dealings with Earth. But they're not gone forever. Just like I used a couple other facets from the original story (escaped animals, no-trespassing forest), these guys might show up in something else later.
Maybe they live on another planet. Maybe they'll come live on this one eventually. Maybe they live in another storyverse altogether, and they're talented magicians. (I have another rough draft on the hard drive that they'd fit into pretty well, actually.)
They say no writing is ever wasted, and that's very true. It can be material to draw from later, bonus material for Patreon, and heck, any writing is practice. You don't expect a piano player to gripe about a song played badly.
Writing never expires! Maybe I'll see those dinosaur twins again someday.

For those who are unsure of whether or not they really have the "sensitivity to cold" symptom of fibromyalgia, because you think that it's just you not being able to handle colder temperatures like other people, that's one way of putting it. The other way is, when it's winter and the temperatures start dropping, do you feel your pain more intensely? Do you feel like you have more problems with your joints? Is your partner always commenting how cold your fingers and toes are, but it somehow gets more frequent in winter? Those are other ways to consider being sensitive to the cold.

Okay did like 3h of cosmic exploration with fc and uhh, have to say I'm not a fan (some rambling (= me complaining) under the cut)
It feels like.... more scuffed Ishgard resto? Like the difficulty balancing is all over the place, rewards (aside from like. the gacha ones) are kinda meh, no mounts is weird (why tf can't we use mounts when the gatherer points are on the other side of the damn moon?) and the tools feel like a joke (sacrifice your stats to make slightly more paper scraps for gacha)
Fate thingy is kinda fun, but iirc you don't get exp and at least for the support group (didn't try the mech yet) rewards were pretty bad. Red alert was way better, both on balancing and rewards, and my only regret is that I didn't think of equipping the relic tool for extra rewards until after it finished.
Ah and if someone's thinking what I mean about balancing: I have pentamelded goldsmith on Yulan. I had to really focus and sweat to make some of the D rank stuff hq. After swapping to lvl 70 culinarian (no melds, barely lvl 70 gear) I could pretty much roll my face across the keyboard and I'd still get hq crafts in C rank. I'm not complaining about that part, it's good that it's not too hard on lower level crafters, but why are crafts marked "lvl 10+" so damn hard if you dare use jobs you put some effort into before? It just feels like I'm being punished for spending time and gil on that one job.
With gathering idk if the scaling is as broken, I don't really have any DoL jobs under 90 to try, but the ones I tried with lvl 94 botanist were pretty bad. Some I could kiiiiinda do with some effort, some (fuck them aetherial reduction ones) would fail every time. Fc members were cursing fishing a lot, so I guess that's not too fun either. Without mount you'd be left running around on foot, then sitting doing nothing waiting for gp after a failed try, while crafters can just chill in base and craft away with no worries.
Anyway uhhh tldr is "tf is wrong with this balancing?" and "idk what I expected but I'm still dissapointed by this"
As a fun way to end this rant, look at this gacha wheel option I got before I logged off:

Do you know if the game has a cap on the amount of music cards you can earn? I’ve watched all the passed event stories and unlocked almost every song, but now that I have 4 songs and about 42 cards left I’m scared they won’t be as easy to obtain once more songs release
No there’s no limit to how many you earn. Every event has 10 in the shop and reading stories gives out 2 per chapter iirc? So you should be fine.

Man, I REALLY wish they'd give us like... a memory box. Where we could reread old events we've completed without the prizes. Maybe they could have it as like a photo app to keep with the phone theme. It drives me insane enough that there are cards I can never read the Devilgram of because they'll most likely never come back to obtain, but the fact that I can't reread things I unlocked until six months after, IF I give them a limited currency is genuinely the most frustrating thing about the Obey Me games to me.
