Mark Lanegan's 'Bubblegum' Celebrates 20 Years with Deluxe Edition Featuring Unreleased Tracks
Tumblr media
Mark Lanegan's 2004 album, Bubblegum, is getting a deluxe reissue for its 20th anniversary. The collaboration between Beggars Arkive and Lanegan’s estate has resulted in Bubblegum XX, a remastered double-LP set to be released on August 23. Additionally, a four-LP box set will be available, featuring two bonus LPs filled with rarities, outtakes, and 12 previously unreleased tracks. The album has been remastered by Geoff Pesche at Abbey Road Studios. This edition marks the first time Bubblegum is presented as a double LP, unlike the original 2004 vinyl which fit the 50-minute album onto a single disc. The bonus discs include a remastered version of Here Comes That Weird Chill (Methamphetamine Blues, Extras & Oddities), now with three additional songs. Steven Friederich Reportersteven, CC BY-SA 4.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0, via Wikimedia Commons The final LP in the set, Demos & Unreleased Songs, offers four tracks produced and mixed by Troy Van Leeuwen, recorded in various hotel rooms with Lanegan on vocals and Van Leeuwen playing all instruments. One of the highlights is "Union Tombstone," featuring Beck. Van Leeuwen reflects on the sessions: "These hotel demo sessions were basically forgotten. When I heard about Mark’s passing, memories came flooding back. I searched through my archive and miraculously found these sessions. It was as if they were fresh out of the tap. The rough mixes are a time capsule that holds up even after 20 years. It’s a true gift from Mark to those of us who love him and his raw expression of beauty. Every listen humbles me, and I’m honored to share his gift." The Bubblegum XX box set includes a 64-page hardcover book with essays by Troy Van Leeuwen, Josh Homme, Chris Goss, Alain Johannes, David Catching, Greg Dulli, Duff McKagan, and Brett Netson, along with studio notes and unseen photographs by Steve Gullick. Josh Homme recalls, “When he told me: ‘I’m calling it Bubblegum,’ I thought he was joking. Knowing Mark, it was darkly humorous. He wanted to be a new piece of bubblegum on a sunny day, but he was the gum stuck under the desk. He was the dark lord.” Here's the artwork and tracklist for Bubblegum XX: Bubblegum – 2XLP - A1. Sealed Glass Vials, 7: A sealed, four ounce, clear glass vial containing a suspicious liquid, powder, slime or gas, that no true adventurer would hesitate to loot. They contain anything from eye of newt, toe of frog, faulty potions, weak elixirs, alchemical supplies, spell components, ritual elements, enchanting materials and crafting ingredients. These can be found in mage towers, voodoo shacks, potion shops, enchanter’s workshops, witch’s hovels, alchemist’s pocket’s, wizard’s pouches and anywhere and everywhere a small vial could be stored. The DM can roll a d4 to determine what state the vials are found in, or choose one of the following based on how much you like your players: 1, The vial is incorrectly labeled. The DM invents something at random or roll again and the vial is labeled that result. 2, The vial has no label of any sort. 3, The vial’s label is correct but only in a general sense. For example, a vial of powdered unicorn horn could be labeled “Horn” or “Unicorn”. 4, The vial has a clear and accurate label describing exactly what it contains.
A sealed glass vial containing a single innocent thought.
A sealed glass vial filled with a Randomly Coloured liquid. If consumed, the creature has a fleeting vision of a number of giant humans seated at a table covered in pieces of paper, dice and miniature figurines. The vision ends suddenly and the character was cursed with the absolute and unequivocal knowledge that he was a figment of someone else's imagination.
A sealed glass vial filled with a Randomly Coloured liquid. If consumed, the drinker becomes irrationally happy to see or interact with gnomes for the next 24 hours.
A sealed glass vial filled with the essence of hope. It appears as a pale glowing liquid that glows brighter in the face of overwhelming odds.
A sealed glass vial that's barely containing an oversized rotten shrimp that was magically preserved at the very pinnacle of putrefaction. Opening the vial is not recommended.
A sealed glass vial filled with the essence of agony. It appears as a shifting black slime, covered in small white mouths that scream soundlessly as they breach and drown in the darkness that engulfs them.
A sealed glass vial containing a memory of light.
A sealed glass vial filled with wax that smells of the bearer's favorite season.
A sealed glass vial filled with a black oily liquid. If consumed, the drinker is wracked with a vivid and specific nightmare the next time they sleep. As the dream begins the creature finds themselves in a graveyard as a blood-red moon hangs above them. As they turn they see a small child whose eyes and mouth have been crudely sewn shut. The child's head tilts to the side as a flicker of recognition seems to pass over it. After a moment of consideration, the mutilated youth drops to it a crouch and burst into a dead sprint on it's hands and feet directly towards the dreamer. The monster crosses the graveyard in a matter of moments and leaps as it reaches out it's small hands covered in grave soil towards the dreamer, who awakes the moment before contact is made.
A sealed glass vial filled with dried kingsfoil, a medicinal herb that grows in the shade.
—Keep reading for 90 more sealed glass vials.
—Note: The previous 10 items are repeated for easier rolling on a d100.

The creature feels an invisible hand on his head that forces him below the surface. When he resurfaces, the faces are gone but the heads remain. The creature hears laughter that is not his own. The creature is drenched in blood from head to toe. It causes a feeling of... joy... and he swims endlessly until he awakens.

Contort Yourself is extremely proud to present a double LP of original 80s underground cassette music.
The 1980s. Neo-liberal excess. Crumbling communism. Military juntas ruling with an iron fist. And of course, freaked out music. Contort Yourself are turning back the clock and returning to an unholy fount of inspiration with "80s Underground Cassette Culture Volume 1." A buffet of beaten up and brutalised tracks are on offer from unknown outfits and respected experimenters. Across two LPs expect to find noise reductions, post punk bitterness, no wave grunts, distortion soaked strings and vocals lost in a hail of pain. A road map into the weird and wild world of DIY back alley artists who, armed with only a tape and an idea, gave the established music norms a sharp fist to the throat.

Dice harvest fresh from the pot ! I unmolded these yesterday morning, very happy with how they turned out !
I made two full sets, one very sea, waves, ocean, the other fully bog witch, lichen, swamp, matching tombstone d4's and moon phases d8's, two liquid core d20's (Fulenn and Poezon), frosty d4 vials, and a dump pour runic d24.
These are still raw, don't come at me if you can't read them 😂 (check out my #faq for the meaning of dice lingo in bold)
