why do you like treyjade so much? what is the thing about that relationship that draws you to it, and what is it that draws them to each other?

honestly this is why i keep thinking that i am not the best person a person can get their supply of treyjade from i don't have enough braincell to deliver them justice, bcs both of them are intellectual individuals in disguise that needs deeper clever writing INSTEAD U GOT THEM IN WHATEVER MESS I WROTE THEM IN FHSDH, that's why it's hard to understand how lovely their dynamic can be.

To start, these are their similarities. They have same vice duties. Jade loves growing things at botanical garden, Trey is in science club which also spends time at botanical garden. Trey bake, Jade brew tea. Trey cook, Jade eat. Simple enough.

And when they are together...

I love that Jade is completely off work/butler mode when with Trey. He is just a very spoiled someone who is very tired and just wants to be comforted with Trey. And of course Trey can be comforted the same way. This is easily one thing that brings connection between them.

Here's what my favorite couple is usually about. I can easily see them as adults that gets into meaningful long lasting relationship. Thanks to the japanese fandom, they are usually drawn in domestic relationship. Just living in the same house, spending their comfortable life together as an adult couple.

Jade can sense there are more under Trey's normality mask. If u consume more smart writing from other artists, Jade is /that/ curious about Trey that he tries to make Trey mad to see how it is if he loses his composure.

But Trey being actually smart, he can actually repel or counter Jade's taunting attempt with underlying smarter move. Which makes it even more interesting to Jade to keep on trying.

And another certain artist has Jade actually convincing Trey, that he doesn't have to stay normal, because he knows what Trey truly wants is abnormality. Trey just stays normal, because after getting Riddle in trouble & stirring trouble with Riddle's mom, it kinda traumatized him in a way. so in this other case, Jade just knows Trey is as messed up as Jade can be if Trey just let himself free, and he wants to unleash him & be (evil) partner hand in hand.

♡♡♡ Well, it's a secret. But Trey is actually bolder than you think. He is not easily repulsed or disgusted as you think. He would even break a 'law' or two to do things with Jade, like ... doing it in the school ground. (Riddle would be so mad, don't tell him) Which make them actually able cater on each other desires & quirks.

This might be similar to the previous questions ago, but to me, they are more of themselves when they are together. They break from their usual duty masks. Trey is not just caring others out of responsibility. He actually have great fun feeding Jade and seeing him eats.

And Jade is not just following behind like a serving servant. He actually wants to be a baby girl, get on to Trey's lap, be patted, and bury his head over Trey's shoulder. AND U SHOULD LET HIM!! FSHDSHD

Mountain hiking? Camping? Cooking? Planting things? Alright, let's go. Outdoor wear Trey's lines said, "People get to research whatever they want in the Science Club which means I get to hear about all sorts of fascinating stuff" "Rook lectured me on proper hiking technique before we left. His tips have been pretty helpful" He actually listens, man. It seems like he is deliberately packing himself with LOADS of information so he can handle any possible situation. But he listens & actually digests the information Jade rambles to him. And that's the important thing.

O H ! The never ending fun ! ! Trey is a tough nut to crack. His defence meter skyrocketed up to the space. He is like an enrichment toy for Jade. But does Jade know that Trey is accumulating plan to also get back on Jade? Maybe not as evil. Maybe not as mean. But a win, is a win! U're gonna for sure make that pouty face, Jade.

You said what you said, Trey! No takesies, backsies! Have u seen Trey in Octavinelle uniform tho??? HE LOOKS LIKE, he's AT HOME! And for sure, Jade is muffling his voice at the corner right now. ♡♡♡

Their relationship can be sweet and direct, calculated but sweet; or attached but detached at the same time. Some artists took their individuality in more serious manner. Despite how it seems, their relationship doesn't go like actual cliche. They are not foolishly in love. They have first and foremost, sound logic of what they want. I remember this image has jade holding trey's hands while walking to the direction of the sea while the waves crashes on him, saying "sorry i can't go with you". It may seem cold. But in a way it's refreshing. It is a good material for pain for us who watches them. And they are not fake. They do not pretend that love is everything above all. Despite of lacking true ability to deliver how the true treyjade love is like, these are the things that make me fall in love with them. (I may feel like i missed talking about some points after posting this, i'm sure. Because i really love them in many different ways)

Drabble below the cut!

A comfortable silence settled between Trey and Jade, occasionally shattered only by the rustle of turning pages and the distant, muted sounds of campus life—a far-off laugh, the rhythmic thud of someone practicing spelldrive nearby. Trey was diligently working through a complex potions textbook, brow furrowed slightly in concentration, while Jade was calmly reading his mushroom encyclopedia, occasionally making precise notes in his journal.

It was a familiar rhythm, this quiet companionship. Jade found a certain peace in these shared moments of study, the tranquility almost warm and home-like compared to the usual complexities of their interactions. He appreciated Trey's focused dedication, the steady presence beside him.

His own focus, however, was momentarily broken by a subtle shift. He felt, rather than saw, the tension ease from Trey's shoulders beside him. Trey's breathing—usually quiet but regular—deepened slightly, becoming slower, softer. Jade glanced over, noting the slight relaxation of Trey's features, the way his head had begun to lean slowly towards Jade's shoulder.

Then, a soft weight settled against him. Jade stiffened instinctively for a fraction of a second, startled by the sudden, warm pressure, even when he was anticipating it. Trey's head had come to rest fully against his shoulder, green hair brushing softly against the fabric of Jade's uniform.

He'd fallen asleep.

A small smile involuntarily touched Jade's lips, softening the usually precise line of his mouth. It was rare to see Trey so completely unguarded, the lines of concentration smoothed away, replaced by the profound peace of sleep. The sight stirred an unexpected warmth within Jade's chest.

With movements practiced in delicacy, Jade carefully reached over. His gloved fingers gently slipped Trey's glasses from his face, the familiar frames cool against his touch. As he was doing so, Jade's eyes fell upon the open potions book that now lay forgotten, having fallen onto Trey's lap. Jade reached down again, his touch featherlight as he retrieved it, marked the page with a stray bookmark, and closed it softly, setting it aside on the bench, placing the now-folded glasses securely on top of it.

He paused, observing the peaceful slope of Trey's brow and the way his lashes rested against his cheek. The steady, rhythmic rise and fall of his breathing was a calming sound in the quiet courtyard. Driven by an impulse that felt both foreign and deeply right, Jade leaned down just slightly. He pressed a brief, feather-light kiss to the center of Trey's forehead.

"Sleep well, Trey-san," Jade whispered, the sound softer than he intended—softer than he'd thought he was capable of—as he drew back.

With the small smile still lingering, Jade settled again. He adjusted his position slightly, careful not to disturb the sleeping figure leaning against him. Then, picking up his own book once more, he returned his attention to the poisonous fungi; the familiar weight of Trey a warm, grounding presence beside him as the afternoon sun began to dip lower.

Afterwards.........

I woke up... at 3 a.m..... because I got hungry.

Hello everyone! Fic update!

CHAPTER 6 of my TreyJade Hanahaki fic is up now!!

Summary:

Jade stepped closer, reaching out to adjust Trey's tie with practiced, gentle fingers. The brief touch sent a familiar warmth through Trey. "Though, I must admit, seeing you fulfill that half-hearted 'maybe' is... gratifying."

"It was only half-hearted because I didn't dare believe it could happen," Trey confessed quietly, meeting Jade's gaze directly. "Thank you for... wanting this. With me."

"There was never anyone else I would have wanted it with, Trey-san," Jade replied, his voice sincere, his hand lingering for a moment on Trey's chest before withdrawing. "Shall we?" He gestured towards the waiting boat.

Suddenly thinking about that moment in the comics (I forgot which ones...) where Trey made the dumbest dad joke and Jade couldn't stop laughing, that even Floyd was concerned... JSHFKSHFK and then that moment where Trey and Jade were walking to the kitchen together (yes, Jamil was there, but these two were definitely planning a little kitchen date. And who's to say that Jamil can't join in? LOL) there's also Book 5... Trey being interested in Jade's club, asking questions about the activities (AGH IF ONLY THE ANNOUNCEMENT DIDN'T INTERRUPT THEIR CONVERSATION), and knowing about terrariums, and—AND—JDHAKFHSKD (dies from brainrot) and don't get me started on Jade's ceremonial robe vignette and Trey's labwear vignette.....

These two have very little moments together, but when they do, they just. Make me feel. ILL.

There are 300+ TreyJade fics on AO3, but if I recall correctly, at least half of the TreyJade tag actually consists of fics that focus on a different pairing—and in some, they don't even appear at all! And a lot of the other half were actually written by the same authors (that I admire so very much)!! You'll find some recurring names under the TreyJade tag.

Now, to get down to business! To be honest with you, Anon—some of the TreyJade fics that I really enjoy haven't been completed, and a number of the authors for those fics have either shifted to a different fandom or are on hiatus. With that in mind, I've decided to give you recommendations for 5 unfinished TreyJade fics and 6 (yes, six, I could not resist) finished ones!!

Exhibit A: Incomplete TreyJade Fics

1. The Four-Leaf Clover by DerpAWorld1000

This fic is set in pre-canon, where a first year Jade writes about his experiences in a journal. I really love fics that explore the possible events of pre-canon, and this fic in particular has my heart. The fic consists of Jade's journal entries—hence the first person POV (I've heard that a number of people dislike this POV, so I hope you don't mind first person, Anon...) I find this fic utterly adorable, and I love that it still retains Jade's voice even in first person (journal entries). Jade is discovering new things on land—including mushrooms, and is perhaps developing affection for a certain Heartslabyul vice-housewarden...

2. Academy Days by Vermillion_Air

One of the most recurring TreyJade writers on AO3!!! Their brilliant writing has inspired me a ton. This fic in particular is... amazing might be an understatement. Here, Jade gets roped into being Trey's designated taste tester (he got tricked into owing Trey a favour), and Jade vows to get back at him. This fic is quite lengthy (nearly 200k words!!!) so, again, I hope you don't mind, Anon... ;-; I absolutely adore how their relationship develops over time in this fic, and how accurately this author depicts Trey and Jade (also the other characters like Cater)!!

3. walking without legs by rangerchikin

I believe this author was the founder of the TreyJade tag on AO3! In this fic, Jade finds himself developing confusing and unfamiliar feelings for Trey under the course of multiple events (including those that happen in canon!!) this fic is adorable, with fantastic characterizations for Trey and Jade!!

4. Part of His World (and You Never Will Be) by Tokushu

This writer is also one of the more recurring TreyJade writers on AO3! This fic is inspired by The Little Mermaid, where Jade is intrigued by Trey, who is the prince in this AU. In this fic, another merman makes a deal with Azul to win Trey's heart. Jade volunteers to go to the surface to interfere, using it as an excuse to pursue Trey himself. It's an amazing AU that also retains the funny situations Ariel experienced when she first came on land!!

5. Drowning by Indigo_and_teal

You might recognize that this author is @/moonjellybeans on Tumblr!! In this fic, Trey tutors Jade for flight class, unfortunately leading to an accident, where Jade gets injured. Consequently, Trey tries to make amends and help Jade during his recovery (where Jade spends time in his eel form), only to find himself catching confusing feelings as he gets to know the eel better... I love the way these two interact, I adore Trey's writing in particular, and also the interactions with Floyd!!

Whew! Those were the incomplete fics. Now, onto the next list...

Exhibit B: Completed TreyJade Fics

1. 12 Moments to Treasure in Our Hearts by Vermillion_Air

This is actually a series that consists of two fics!! I've decided to put this in the list as one, because it's better to read both fics in the series (both are really amazing fics!!) Both fics use the 5+1 format, which explains the title of the series! This series is very fluffy and cute—the first fic follows several canon events from the game, and is pre-relationship (and they also get together in this fic!!) and the second fic focuses on their relationship afterwards!!

2. It's Just 5 Days by Vermillion_Air

Remember the moment during Vargas Camp 2 where Trey owes Azul a favour for his magestones—to assist the Mostro Lounge for five days? This fic is exactly about that! In this fic, we see Trey and Jade interacting during Trey's time assisting the Lounge, and they slowly begin to develop feelings. I really adore their banter and characterization in this fic, as well!!!

3. Love Potion No. 3 by Tokushu

Aha, I deliberately put this fic at number 3 because of the name LOL. This is a one-shot, in which Trey disposes of love potion made by first years, and ends up getting splashed by it as he's disposing of it. At that moment, Jade arrives... Very cute and fluffy fic, I loved it a lot!

4. Petals on My Lips by Tokushu

TREYJADE HANAHAKI FIC!!!! This one is quite angsty. In this fic, Trey and Jade develop Hanahaki for each other, thinking that they're not worthy of the other's affection. Don't worry, though, because it is angst with a happy ending (as can be seen in the tags!!) This fanfic also creatively explores both Trey and Jade's interests in flora~

5. chance meeting by Neroavan

This fic is another fluffy one-shot!! It begins with Trey's first encounter with Jade singing a mysterious song at the botanical garden pond, which he finds intriguing. After the adorable first meeting, their relationship slowly develops from there! This fic also involves cute and funny interactions with the other characters!! Adorable.

6. Leeches and Cloves by PrincessPP

Another fic set in pre-canon!! This fic explores the early dynamic between Trey and Jade. Trey "torments" Jade just by being fascinating and "difficult to approach," culminating in a situation where Trey ends up saving Jade's life after an accident, forcing them into their first real personal encounter. Reminder that these two match each other's freaks... (affectionate)

What I really love about TreyJade is the fact that you can enjoy shipping them for entirely different reasons. Some TreyJade enjoyers like them for their matching freakiness. Some enjoy shipping them because their banter can be fun and enjoyable. Others ship them because they look good together. Or you can ship them because they're both mature and observant. Some enjoy shipping them because of their compatible interests. They're also enjoyable because they're like puzzle pieces from different puzzle sets that fit each other anyway. Others may enjoy shipping them for their intricate relationship and deeper connection. They can be freaky, they can be domestic, they can be cute and playful, they can have immense tension, they can understand each other on a deeper level.... A lot of writers and fanartists potray them differently, and I love every single possible dynamic of their relationship.

As for me? Well, I love them for all of the reasons mentioned above KSHFKSHDK

Again, I know I said I wouldn't be posting until May ends..... However, I want to commemorate the success of my proposal presentation and my freedom! ...Except for the fact that I still have to do revisions and all of my other projects, but whatever.

So, here's a little gift for you guys. (Warning: this is completely unserious. Completely unserious. No, seriously—listen, it's completely unserious. I wrote this at 3 a.m., just a few minutes ago. I'm actually testing out the schedule feature AHAHAHA)

Once upon a time, Jade Leech existed. He just... existed. One day, he decided that he was going to be freaky. No—he has always been freaky.

And so, he freaky-ed.

While he was freaky-ing, he ran across an attractive upperclassman from Heartslabyul. He quickly learned that his name was Trey Clover. Through multiple fated encounters under the beauty of the Botanical Garden and the dutiful air of vice-housewarden meetings, the two of them slowly grew closer.

However, Jade hadn't been completely honest with his Trey-san. He had been concealing his freaky-ness.

One day, he wanted Trey to see all of him... and to see if he would accept him. And so, he freaky-ed towards Trey. He would've expected Trey to run, or to ask for help. It never crossed his mind that Trey would act freaky back towards him.

And yet, he did.

"Trey-san... I never thought you would be capable of matching my freak." Jade told him as they both glanced up at the dark skies, which strangely held no stars that night. It was entirely dark, much akin to his own fantasies.

"No, Jade... I'm not just matching your freak." Trey replied then, meeting Jade's eyes, his amber gaze devoid of any signs of fear or deception. "I'm outmatching it."

"Trey-san..."

"Jade..."

And then, they kissed freakily under the freaky sky, their freaky hands roaming over each other's freaky bodies freakily as they freakily devoured each other into the freaky night...
