what in the world happened between noahs audition tape and noahs arrival on total drama island

i mean, i know they scapped noahs arc as a schemer, for whatever reason, but in his audition tape noahs all smart and confident, promising that he'll be good for the show because he's got "smarts" and that's what it takes to win and he doesn't seem to be a full on ass like he is in island (he's also apparently well-liked, given his role as class president and a random highschool student congratulating him in the halls)

but when it comes to island, he's just completely apathetic and already done with everything. how many days passed between the audition tape and island, and what in the world happened.
