Familiars from European folklore.
According to records of the time, those alleging to have had contact with familiar spirits reported that they could manifest as numerous forms, usually as an animal, but sometimes as a human or humanoid figure.
When they served witches, they were often thought to be malevolent, but when working for cunning folk they were often considered benevolent. The former were often categorized as demons, while the latter were more commonly thought of and described as fairies. The main purpose of familiars was to serve the witch or young witch, providing protection for them as they came into their new powers.
Familiar spirits were most commonly small animals, such as cats, rats, dogs, ferrets, birds, frogs, toads and hares. There were also cases of wasps and butterflies, as well as pigs, sheep and horses. Familiar spirits were usually kept in pots or baskets lined with sheep’s wool and fed a variety of things including, milk, bread, meat and blood.
There were three main types of encounter narrative related to how a witch or cunning person first met their familiar. The first of these was that the spirit spontaneously appeared in front of the individual while they were going about their daily activities, either in their home or outdoors somewhere.
The second manner in which the familiar spirit commonly appeared to magical practitioners in Britain was that they would be given to a person by a pre-existing individual, who was sometimes a family member and at other times a more powerful spirit.
In the third manner, the cunning person or witch was experiencing difficulty prior to the appearance of the familiar, who offered to aid them. “Their problems… were primarily rooted in the struggle for physical survival—the lack of food or money, bereavement, sickness, loss of livelihood and so on”, and the familiar offered them a way out of this by giving them magical powers.

June 26th-July 2nd, 2019 Reader Favorites Archive
The archive for the Reader Favorites chat that occurred from June 26th, 2019 to July 2nd, 2019.  The chat focused on the following question:
From any webcomic, which illustration do you secretly want a print of?
Draco Plato
I have a poster from Lackadaisy on my wall and I'd probably get another one if the chance arose organically again, lol. https://www.lackadaisycats.com/
https://www.deviantart.com/tracyjb/art/Lackadaisy-Moonshine-363708883
that's the poster I have from it
granted this is hardly a secret
I love their art though, they have so many great images that'd be awesome prints
I think Pheny's images would make really good prints too, from There's No Such Thing as Jason https://tapas.io/series/Theres-No-Such-Thing-as-Jason----IT
Anarchy Dreamers is another one that I've thought would make good prints cause of the pop art kind of style it has, and vibrant colors.

Besides your awesome art can you share some of the artists that inspired you for your style ?
I don’t want to repost anyone’s work, so forgive the lack of images but, in no particular order:
Jawlipops
HappyDS/Andydraws
Phobso
Shrylia
Kisu-no-hi
LittleUlvar
Ninterbit
Makaniart
Amelion
Shuppie
Arealtrashact
Johnzylstra
TracyJB
I re-read and realized you meant artists that inspire my style; these still hold true kind of, albeit it’s mostly just art I really adore and appreciate.
When I was really struggling to develop my style, I looked a lot at The Legend of Korra, as well as Phobso, TracyJB, Bridsake(?)(I can’t remember the full URL; they used to be big into H*talia- I think they do SU art now, but I’m not sure), StripesandTeeth, and a couple other artists (mostly my reference point, as it was my main fandom for like 3 years, was H*talia artists lmao)

I see that a lot of people are asking for tutorials lately, but instead, why don't you link us to your favourite ones that you used to learn?
Go to littleulvar, tracyjb, betteo and fukarion deviantart, find @loish, @galaxyspeaking, @artofpan, @grizandnorm‘s tutorials. There are a lot of them but I don’t save them. That’s few I can think of right now :)

11 Facts about Mattex
What’s up? I was tagged by the wonderful @kramzo I’ve never done one of these before, but here we go :D
1. If it isn't obvious enough, I love sci-fi! I grew up on it, was raised in it, "I was born in it." Love me some Star wars AND star trek, but most notably, Mass Effect.
2. Judging by the first fact, I'm also a big movie guy! Sci-fi movies of course are my favorite, but any movie can be an enjoyable watch too. Some of my fave movies include Blade Runner, District 9, Scott Pilgrim, Alien, etc.
3. I'm a terrible gamer. I'm not that competitive of a person (ok, maybe internally, but never really actively). However! I love games! Mass Effect especially! So much so that when you look up Turians or Salarians on tumblr, my blog might appear in the suggestions area >>;. But I also really enjoy Overwatch, warframe, Halo, The Last Of Us, Undertale, etc.
4. I would love to be in an art field type career! Whether that's being a movie maker or drawing comics, alone or with a team, I want to live and breathe creativity.
5. I'm pretty self conscious about my weight (I'm a dude). Always have been. I workout often and try my best to eat right. I've become a lot more accepting of my looks as I've grown up, but there's always that tiny part of me that wouldn't mind being a little more like "this" or "that."
6. I would love to be abducted by aliens. PROBE ME!
7. I'm not so squeamish in person. However internally, a lot of horror things, especially movies, freak me the f@#$ out! I can take sci-fi horror, or if it's physical and I can 'fight' it, (hesitantly) bring it on! But if it's paranormal or something I just can't fight, bye now *runs away.* Now if they're friendly monsters and ghosts, then hey, how's it going? *wink*
8. I live around the Seattle area. I've traveled to a few places in the States like LA Cali, Dallas TX, Phoenix AZ, Oklahoma OK, Atlanta Ga. I don't care too badly to travel, but seeing all of these different places does give you an interesting perspective on things. I plan to visit DC eventually, Vancourver, and Sweden.
9. I don't know if I'm a bisexual or pansexual....I'm typically attracted to I guess your standard males and females, however, tomboys and effeminate dudes are nice. And don't even get me started on aliens and robots! (I'm looking at you, Garrus!)
10. I wanna say General Grievous was my first fictional crush. That or Gali from bionicles.
11. I tend to be in a working 'mood' or phase. It's basically, if I start a project, I wanna finish it asap, so I'll spend all of my time working on that project, or it's all I'll ever think about. I want to try to find a way to balance that out soon.
Thanks Kramzo for the tagging owo The following tagged artists are friends and/or artists who I’ve looked up to in some way or form, godtiervelka, elite-terry, bioatomic, maunderfiend, tracyjb/lackadaisycats
