What an awesome program meeting!! Today we had some alumns from the NYU Music Education grad program perform on traditional Chinese instruments and teach us about traditional Chinese music. Here we have Cantata Fan on the Pipa, Yang Wang on the Erhu, and Jiaoyue Lyu on the Guqin and the Zhu. This Zhu is the only exiting Zhu in the United States and one of two Zhu’s outside of China!! This was a very educational and exciting meeting, and the performers even got to let us try out some of the instruments. Nightmare Buttefly (youtube channel)

Hey Hey, I wanted to ask if someone knows the music channel of youtube called nightmare butterfly? 

It was a channel with lots of chinese music but somehow it got shut down but I had over 100 songs saved from the channel in my playlist but I don’t know the titles anymore :(

Someone knows where i can find the user on other websites? since I never really read the description the person used to have :(

Feeling quite empty without those songs :/

Today ArtStreet residents had an opportunity to meet with the members of the group Music From China. We learned about the native instruments used in their performances and a bit of their own personal history. It was an eye opening experience to learn about traditions that differs so greatly from Western music and culture. This is a short video clip featuring part of "Melody of the Purple Bamboo." The song is based on traditional Chinese opera and originated in the south near Shanghai.

Music From China will be performing in Sears Recital Hall at 8 PM this week on Wednesday, October 24th and Thursday the 25th. Student tickets are only $5 at the door and $10 for faculty and staff.
