common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

"Marinette being a stalker". I could go all day about why this take is wrong, but I've seen people argue against this better than I could. But it's still annoying when I see this not be people in the fandom but by people outside of the fandom who just base their opinions by out of context moments or hear it by former fans with biased takes on her.

there should be more of this type of fic/art

A lot more ML crossovers that aren't just regurgitating the same tiresome salt fic tropes, especially ones inspired by mari//bat. There are so many potential ideas for ML crossovers. Aside from the basic X meets Y, if I got some other ideas:

Characters from another media lose their powers temporarily and weld Miraculous for a while. Or heck they combine it with their own to create something different.

How about Hawkmoth recruiting the villains through akumatization. And maybe have a twist where they resist his akumatization and go rogue on him.

Instead of Marinette getting new family figures, how about other more authorative figures taking interest in Adrien.

Tom and Sabine invite the characters from other media for dinner. Let them be the family that takes care of other characters for once.

Involve Alya into the crossovers that isn't for salt bashing. Have her geek out over other superheroes.

The show establishes there are other Kwamis outside of the ones we saw, what if there is a version of kwamis and miraculous for that other universe. Like a miraculouses in the DC verse or something.

Or heck, what about Kwamis are linked to other magical stuff

Like I said, there's so many creative possibilites with this outside of salt stuff.

It doesn't really require knowledge about Girl Genius, just a willingness to roll with genre conventions. And anyway *with exaggerated sincerity* this is a normal fic about marinette giving Adrien a name day gift it's me boy I'm the ps5 you don't have to think about it being a crossover at all I'm sure it won't be important

What’s something new that you tried in a fic this year? How did it turn out and would you do it again?

i started cowriting a fic for the first time! we haven't finished it yet but it's been so much fun working with @wackus-bonkus-maximus. i would definitely be open to co-writing again at some point!

What fic was the most difficult to write? Did you finish it?

the still unfinished fics have definitely been the most challenging 😂 lies of attrition has been challenging in a good way and i feel like i've grown as a writer since starting it! we are the foxes has been challenging for less fun reasons though and i got pretty blocked on that one

my betas pushed me to add the thunder line and they were SO right. the rain wasn't enough they deserved the full coup de foudre after what i put them through (taking away both their memories)

2. How many fics did you work on this year? (They don’t have to be finished or published!) 😅 Oh god, I have to put it all out there right off the bat, huh? This year I worked on 32 fics, and I published 25 of these! And will post one more before the end of the year...

5. What fandom(s) did you write for this year? Harry Potter (specifically Marauders Era)

12. What fic was the most difficult to write? Did you finish it? Definitely my Slytherin!Lily AU, i'll be fine, i'll be good. This is the longest fic I've worked on to date, and I had lots of notes and charts to make sure the character development was consistent 😅. This was a fic that I felt really strongly needed to be completed and polished before I posted any of it, so yes, it is finished!

What’s something new that you tried in a fic this year? How did it turn out and would you do it again?

TECHNICALLY I started writing Boulangerella in 2022, but I didn't start publishing it until 2023, so i'll count it as something new this year. I specifically set out to try out the narrative style of the Septimus Heap series. It's technically an omniscient 3rd person, but it reads like 3rd person limited. The narrative bounces around between character perspectives really fluidly and I wanted to try to capture that narrative style. IDK if I love it, so I can't say I would do it again but it was a really fun writing exercise, and works really well for this particular narrative where naming is so important (but did the importance of naming/identity evolve because of the narrative style? Maybe!)

9. What fic meant the most to you to write?

That would be Roots. It's a weird sequel to a fic that doesn't match the original in tone and is part of an obscure AU so it didn't get much attention but it's one of the few fics that has a really personal element of myself in it, and one of only 2 fics i've used to process my fear of coming out to my parents.

bc i dont want to look through my wips, im just going to pick from my published ones lmfao. so probably....'you know i'll take my heart clean apart (if it helps yours beat)' i wrote that in a night i think bc it's like a fix it for the finale of my fave show. did not even think about editing it much, let alone the title. i was stuck on what to put that i just said, yknow what fuck it. lmfaoooo

Bothering you with questions and statements: Do you have any hobbies/interests that your followers might find surprising?

Hmm... Maybe that I play a lot of video games including MMOs? I've been an avid player of World of Warcraft for a number of years now (started back when Legion dropped). I love dungeons and raiding (moreso dungeons cause the Mythic+ system just satisfies my brain worms).

I haven't been able to play it much recently though since I don't have a lot of free time to consistently invest in a game like that. So I've been playing League of Legends or Stardew Valley in my down time lately.

Last Line WIP game

Thank you, @trainsinanime - I haven't gotten to properly write in a bit, so I had to go digging, and. Oh. It is neither the SEp Heap Timtravel AU I'm working on in a google doc, nor my very long Merlin AU I expected it to be. It is, instead, a single paragraph egregiously titled "Zander's Side", because sometimes I fancy myself a comedian.

Of course he would have - his dark eyes had an odd spark to them, and his face, at least, was unmarred. Or it had been.

It's POV swap for "Transformation", a book series with no more than 15 fics in all of Ao3. A friend got me to reread it recently, and they have been aiding and abetting me into writing down my many thoughts of "THIS IS GAY YOU CAN'T TELL ME THIS WASNT MEANT TO BE GAY"

Yes I cheated by putting the last two lines in here. I will still just tag for the four words actually in the last line :D

Turns out that Tumblr's ask box is way too small to post 500 words, so just: "you will never sleep alone (i'll love you)", the last section after they wake up (or all of it if you prefer, I'm just picking that section because of the word limit) for the DVD commentary thing!

here's the first 500 words after they wake up:

If Chat Noir did end up having nightmares that night, Marinette never heard a peep. She’s always been a deep sleeper, so maybe she’d just slept through it, but— She would’ve woken up if he’d screamed. So if he’d had any nightmares, they weren’t scream-inducing, at least.  Which was good. She didn’t want him to have nightmares of any kind, but especially not scream inducing. Without thinking, she squeezed him tighter. Her eyes shot open. She’d squeezed him tighter. Meaning she was already squeezing him. Meaning, at some point throughout the night, one of them had destroyed the pillow barrier, and in the absence of its protection, her arms had found their target. She released him like a hot pan she’d lifted without gloves, complete with an accompanying yelp of surprise— one that caused him to roll over and blink the sleep from his eyes. She squeezed her own shut, seconds too late. “G’morning,” mumbled Adrien Agreste. Slowly, she opened her eyes again. Adrien fucking Agreste. This couldn’t be real. It had to be some sort of hallucination. There was no way her Chaton, who she’d searched and searched for all these years, had been just a phone call away, all along. No wonder he didn’t want to vacation as a civilian. “Marinette?” he asked, stretching like the cat he was. “You’re not transformed,” she whispered, and watched his eyes grow wide. “This should be interesting.” Plagg emerged from behind Adrien’s head. “I told you I loved you!” she shrieked, shooting up out of bed.  Adrien’s mouth opened, gaping at her. Right, probably not the most important detail here. “I—” He started, and then shook his head, following her out of bed. “You did. Thank you.” Marinette blinked. “Thank you?” He nodded. “For loving me. For telling me. Even though you’ve moved on… it’s—well, it means something to me, that you did.” Absolutely zero percent of Marinette had moved on. She’d mistakenly thought maybe she had, but… Maybe Wuthering Heights hadn’t been the worst comparison, after all. Or maybe she’d just been wrong about why it didn’t fit. She still didn’t know why he’d left without a word. In fact, it made less sense than it did last night, because Chat Noir had disappeared months before Adrien’s father died. “When did it happen?” she asked, desperate. “The thing that is giving you nightmares, when did it happen?” Adrien averted his gaze to look at Plagg. Plagg sighed, but nodded. “It was right before his father came out with those creepy rings. You know the ones.” She did. For about a year, it seemed like almost everyone had an Alliance ring. But sometime after Gabriel Agreste’s death, they’d been discontinued—a decision rumored to have come from Adrien himself, who’d inherited not only the company but the rights to his own image as well. From the pain etched across Adrien’s face, though, she could tell the Alliances were not the reason. What else had happened that day?

the ending of this fic is probably the easiest part to write commentary on, since it's where the fic really diverges from the original. but of course, i had to keep the classic trope of them waking up cuddling despite the pillow barrier! it's a classic for a reason. and seemed especially appropriate for marinette here, who despite her resentment towards chat noir, really has missed him and would want to be close to him.

the wuthering heights line was fun for me, because as much as adrien and marinette bear almost no resemblance to the characters in that story, there's something to the idea of marinette immediately thinking of that story when she's trying to compare her and chat noir to the romantic literature movement. because that story is about being separate from someone you loved due to lack of communication, and while adrien is very much not heathcliff, he still left thinking of himself as a monster while she longed for him. so marinette is more accurate than she realized, not just because her connection to chat noir was undeniably romantic, but because he'd also left her without talking to her about what upset him.

which brings us to the realization of why he left! in the original story, adrien had quit being chat noir the parkour streamer because he'd blamed himself for his mother's death, but that doesn't work in canon since her death is different. i suppose i could have gone the route of having him blame himself because his mother died making him with the peacock miraculous, but him cataclysming his father worked even better (both for the angst and for a convenient way to have hawkmoth out of the picture without ladybug ever learning who he was or knowing for sure he was gone).

as for what happened with gabriel, he never learned adrien was chat noir. once chat noir disappeared, he started to ramp up his plans, which meant things were really rough on ladybug for a while. but after a while it became pretty clear he was not going to draw chat noir back out anytime soon, and he only had a few months left, so eventually he stopped and decided to enjoy the time he had left with his son. this of course fucked adrien up even worse which is why it's been SO long, i had to give him enough time to mentally recover!
