I tried to be normal once but then I remembered that stars exist, and so does poetry, and flowers. And literature and music and mythology and the giggles of babies and the excited screeches of toddlers. And stories told by grandfathers and recipes passed down from grandmothers, and cemeteries so old that no one remembers the stories of the people who lay there, but their headstones make our hearts ache all the same. I tried to be normal but then I saw the ocean and felt the ancient pang of longing, the sweet and fleeting piercing of the heart, the desperate need to chase the beauty, dive into the beauty, be consumed by the beauty. I remembered that dragonfly larva break out of their own exoskeletons and that a hummingbird's heart beats 1,200 times a minute. I tried to be normal, but then I saw a painting of a Victorian Christmas tree, soft circles of yellow oil paint mimicking the glow of a hundred carefully placed candles. I tried to be normal but then I saw Beauty and I could not contain my glee.
