Thus, the only recourse is to refer back to the Japanese original to gain a clearer understanding of the content.

Sure, I don't understand Japanese, so there is not much I can do and there is no way for me to know which translation is the good one. I can only see the sense of the speech and realise it does not make sense in English. "My clan were sealing specialists - they were savage - your belly seal was based on a jutsu developed in our village" is kind of a weird train of thought. The one in French/Spanish makes much more sense to me, I don't know.

I just realized something kinda annoying about engstars, they let Ra*bits call Nazuna "Ni-chan", but Eichi is referred to as "Brother Eichi" :/ I wish they'd just stick with one rather than make it confusing (especially for people that only have/use the official translation)

Brother eichi sounds like they're in a monastery i'll never get over that. I hear gongs in my head every time i read it. Im sorry to anyone that only uses the official translation though:( for many reasons i wont get into cuz i think i'll sound annoying if i do. Anyway. Throughout the entire series, in translation, Dongfang calls Orchid just a little flower spirit. But in the book and in the drama, he actually calls her 小花妖 Xiǎo Huāyāo a little flower demon.It starts back in the second episode, when he doesn't know her name yet. But the funny thing is that he doesn't call her that right away. Before this she forces him to return her hair, which of course impresses him. And then she begins to explain that one can't take away someone's work, thereby justifying her intention to release the criminal from the pagoda. And after that Dongfang begins to call her 小花妖 Xiǎo Huāyāo.

Of course, I wanted to learn more about this nickname in order to understand what meaning was put into these words, because he called her that until the very end, although he used it less often in the last episodes.

A few facts. The translation of the word demon in Chinese mythology is significantly different from what we are used to. By the way, the same word is called Ying Zhao. However, this is not all. I dug through the material and found something interesting.

妖 yāo Initially, this is a female image. A mix of two images of a woman and a baby that are superimposed on each other. The beauty of a woman who hasn't yet submitted, the extraordinary one.

Original meaning: beautiful, magnificent. Enchanted girl, charming girl. Extended: inappropriate behavior, demonic spirit. Witchcraft, demon, magic.

The words demonic, gorgeous, beautiful are closely intertwined in the meaning of this word. This is a demoness, a witch, a sorceress.

Other translation variants are abnormal, bizarre, phenomenon, goblin, evil, magnificent, charming, fascinating.

I believe this is important that it's a female image, and not just a demon. So Dongfang admits her feminine essence.

I think that the closest thing to European culture is the image of a witch, or rather even a sorceress. Beautiful, rebellious, dangerous, powerful. Like Triss and Yennefer from the Witcher, if you're familiar with this universe.

So it's on the verge of a compliment and an insult. Some women are offended when they are called witches, while others are flattered. Maybe this is another reason why Orchid interrupts him so abruptly and tells him not to distract her. Not only because he says that she has features of the moon tribe, but also because he uses such an address to her. This is a curious question. But it's debatable.

Also, it's perceived as the opposite of a fairy. Fairy and sorceress, beautiful and sweet against beautiful but wicked.

I thought I’d post some pictures of the Diabolik Lovers novelization that I’m translating right now! It was sold as a proper 小説 (しょうせつ, novel) and it’s about 300 pages and 12 chapters long, but as you can tell by the relative lack of long paragraphs, it’s still more like a light novel that heavily relies on your familiarity with the characters and their looks/voices through the anime and visual novels. The two pages of the running text in the second-to-last picture only amounted to about half a page in English (*´꒳`*) It’s been really fun to translate so far, so stay tuned for the next chapters!

Sakai: Yano-san plays Racules Husty, the big brother of Gira Husty, who I play. At first, we were led to believe that he was a bad guy who hurt his citizens, but unknown to Gira, he was carrying a huge burden on his shoulders, and was deliberately behaving in a way that made him look like that. Gira may have lost his childhood memories, but I think he respected Racules in those days, and even now is of great importance to Gira.

Yano: Gira is the younger brother of Racules, but at the same time, he's a mysterious being. Somehow, he can communicate with the Shugods…For the rest of the story, it felt like he was moving forward with innocence, but gradually, he gained leadership, moved the hearts of those around him, and became the driving force for the previously broken up Royal Sentai to become one. Furthermore, he's also been gaining more and more dignity as the new king, and now he and Racules have resolved their differences and are fighting together.

"Outside of your roles as brothers, what's the relationship between you two like?"

Yano: (with a solemn expression) We normally don't get along very well.

Sakai: (with a straight face) We fight alot.

Sakai & Yano: (laughs).

Yano: No, we're just joking. That's not the case at all.

Sakai: Yano-san takes very good care of me. He cares about me, asking, "Are you eating properly?," and also gives me advice on acting.

Yano: I'm not offering anything major. I just say, "Here's what I'm doing."

Sakai: For example, in running scenes, Yano-san breathes loudly with, "Haa, haa" to make the sound easier to pick up. Since Gira has many running scenes, I try to incorporate this in my own way.

Yano: I believe that each actor has their own way of creating emotion, so I often talk about the technical aspects. For example, it's better not to blink during important scenes, as it could distract the viewers. If there's no dialogue in a scene where you're close to a character's face, I'd suggest that you express your feelings by clenching your teeth or swallowing saliva.

Sakai: He teaches me these things in a way that's easy to understand. Furthermore, Yano-san has so many variations to his performance! He's always been a great help.

"Speaking of, what do you usually call each other?"

Sakai: I call him "Aniki."
