There's a water crisis in Mexico right now, and we're taking precautions, but it's going to be difficult. Among the many reactions of people, there's also the comedy, however. As much as I want to take it as a joke, a part of me thinks it may work too...
People are planning to go to the City's Square, our Zocalo capitalino, and dance to the ancient God Tlaloc to make it rain.
Tlaloc used to be the God of Rain. We do need some sort of miracle at this point. The thing is, there's a myth, a rumor rolling around social media, that claims the God himself is trapped under the Parish Church that's also located at the Zocalo. However, it doesn't seem like the best option to just go and dance to make it rain. After all, we're talking about a trapped God against his will for centuries now under another God's Parish.
He will not be happy.
The current Zocalo is located over what used to be a lake. That God is said to be trapped there since the sixteen hundreds after he was trapped to stop a flooding in the city.
While dancing could do nothing but show how we can still believe in old gods after all this time. It could also lead to 'fantastic' problems because we need to remember, it's not supposed to be real or even work if we go dancing.
I love mythology as much as anyone, and I love to imagine things like this happening. You can blame my curiosity on this post and be skeptical or try to believe it, but if many people gather to 'dance' and something happens. What would you do? How would you feel?
Let's say the rumor is true, what kind of force could we face if Tlaloc is freed and he's not willing to happily help these people? It makes me wonder.
Of course, all of this is just a big What if? You can keep scrolling now.
