I visited a certain haunted house yesterday 👻
As a little belated birthday treat, my family and I went on a trip to Kerpen and Bergheim to visit Burg Bergerhausen (where the first series of the German adaption of BBC Ghosts was shot earlier this month) and Schloss Paffendorf.
Burg Bergerhausen - or Burg Donnerhall as it will be called in the show - is gorgeous. A wedding reception was held there yesterday so I did not take a lot of pictures but you can walk around the whole house which is surrounded by a beautiful moat and observe the local wildlife living there. It is smaller and more compact than West Horsley Place but definitely feels like the kind of place you could inherit and be overwhelmed by. As I mentioned in this post before, the house is not open to the public but the park area around it is.
And because it's only 15 minutes away, we also visited Schloss Paffendorf which is quite a bit larger and more impressive than Burg Bergerhausen. It's also not open to the public but there is a little café there and you can walk through the park behind the property which features huge ginkgo trees, sequoias and magnolias and is breath-takingly beautiful, even in the pouring rain. My whole family agreed we have to come back when it's not raining one day.
So if you're planning on visiting Burg Bergerhausen, make sure you go to Schloss Paffendorf as well because it's really close by and well worth a visit (even little Thomas thought it was nice 😉).

- Secret of the Hattifatteners, Tales From Moominvalley.
I really really really need you all to know how much of a wife guy Moominpappa is actually, like even if they're not super outwardly affectionate in the books, Moominmamma trusts Moominpappa very deeply and Moominpappa's definition of "home" always links back to Moominmamma. He is the waves and she is the shore.
(excerpts of Moominpappa thinking about Moominmamma and only Moominmamma whenever he gets reminded of home v)
He went back to the boat, shaking
his paws like a cat. Some of the spiders had crawled on to him, and he
thought it very unpleasant.
They soon found the painter also and started to crawl along it in a
thin red procession, and from there further along the gunwale.
Moominpappa seated himself as far astern as possible.
This is something one dreams, he thought. And then one awakens
with a jerk to tell Moominmamma: ‘You can’t imagine how horrible,
dearest, such a lot of spiders, you never…’
And she awakens too and replies: ‘Oh, poor Pappa – that was a
dream, there aren’t any spiders here…’
(...)
It was a small scroll of birch-bark,
of the sort the sea likes to curl up and throw ashore. Nothing else. You
can unroll them like documents: inside they’re white and silk-smooth,
and as soon as they’re released they curl shut again. Exactly like a
small fist clasped about a secret. Moominmamma used to keep one
around the handle of her tea-kettle.
(...)
Moominpappa had laid himself on his back and was staring up at
the pale green leaves around him. Light, delicate leaves against a dark
sky. In his easy-chair at home he had a cushion embroidered with fern
leaves by Moominmamma. Pale green leaves against black felt. It was
very beautiful.

isn't there something to be said about how the same events were so different from patrick and marion's point of views. when patrick's pov started, that's when we got the full picture. the true story. because isn't that what always happens, people see what they want to see until reality is shoved right in their face and they go oh.

Hello! I am the anon who sent the ask about the timing of Lucy and Tim's marriage and the letter, no worries about deleting the ask accidentally - thank you very much for your reply :) I only watched a little of My Policeman and didn't finish it but I would love to read your comparison of that with FT, I'm sure your analysis will be fantastic. I also really enjoyed the complexity and nuance in Lucy and Tim's interactions in episode 6, especially about the letter. My reading of that scene is that Lucy is feeling both defiant and protective of her marriage and children, but also a little sorry. And it's a difficult moment for Tim because he didn't expect a response from Hawk, nor did anything he wrote in the letter ask for a response, but he must have hoped for something (a parallel to Mary saying in 1986 that Tim said he didn't want to see Hawk because he expects him not to come and did not want to hope), and to find out that Hawk never even read or know about the letter must be such a crushing blow, especially right on the heels of Tim's choice to turn himself in for his own sake, but also for Hawk and his family (as well as his political beliefs). The differences in Lucy and Tim's interactions in 1968 and 1986 during the phone call are so interesting to me, and I think the evolution of their dynamic/relationship to each other over the years will be a thought-provoking point of discussion once we have all the pieces of the story for the show.
i absolutely don't mind your messages!! i love reading other people's ideas and shit -- keep it coming, if anything!
absolutely agree with so much of what you said! i love the dynamic between lucy and tim. not only is lucy (rightfully) protecting her family, but you can tell tim fully understands this as well (that's why he lies to her in '68 when asking to use her telephone).
lucy read the letter, she knows full well that the love he has for hawk isn't something perverse or purely sexual. they shared something together that she will never know or understand on any level -- he has something she could only dream of having from hawk. they both have something the other wants. lucy has hawk's full attention and has a family with him, tim has his romantic devotion and mutual affection. they want what the other has, but the middle ground is that they are attached to hawk in a way that they can't bear sometimes.
i'll be so fr, i was screaming and crying while watching that scene and i did notice the difference in v.o. and what was actually written in the letter but i just thought it was a mistake they made in post 😅 if it was deliberate, i wonder what that means! since it was in lucy's head, did she intentionally skip over the "to take your place" because it was a painful truth? that makes this a little more interesting, ha!

I'm bitter and if there's one thing uniting us in this country it's our shared hatred for our public transit lol
(I wish I could add a "there have been mix ups or uncertainties that caused me emotional stress but in the end it usually worked out alright" but I ran out of options)
Reblogs are encouraged and appreciated!

first rule of time travel is that you're going to kill your grandparent the first go around, it just happens. second rule of time travel is that the only way of identifying which year you landed in is by a random passer-by carrying a radio device which has a period typical song playing right after you arrived. it's why you cannot go back earlier than the invention of the portable radio. for a while, the time travel industry was in dire straits when at one point in human history boom boxes went out of fashion and everyone just used their personal ipods. thankfully, a brave band of time heroes went back to 2015 and invented tiktok, the next big thing in blaring music loudly. travel from that year on is save once again.

PLEASE now I understand why I get crushes on people who show no interest in me - when you’ve never been in a romantic relationships you chase people who obviously don’t want you because you got used to not being approached or in general you got used to not being picked and seen as a romantic interest so that’s WHY it feels so “comfortable” and normal.
Guys who want me give me an ick because I’m not used to being perceived as a romantic interest.
