You’re the town’s superhero. Your greatest enemy is the town’s supervillian. However, secretly, your both brothers. This isn’t anything tragic, as your whole destructive rivalry is actually just a massive prank on your third brother, the mayor.

Carolina Callings Series by Travis Casey. There are 3 books in the series No Halo Required, The Mayor’s Race, and Dark Alley to Power. All three are satirical, women’s political fiction stories. “Isaiah,” she greeted him. “Slain any dragons lately?” “I can’t say that I’ve disposed of any mythical creatures recently, no.” Yvette draped her arm over her husband’s shoulder. “But what he has done…

KISS ME NOW — NATALIE SCATORCCIO × FEM READER
Tumblr media Tumblr media
𝒾. TEXT you weren't sure if you had a chance with her, a small part of you hoped that she felt the same. lucky for you, she did.
𝒾𝒾. CONTENT confessions, nat in denial, kissing, reader crushing on nat since who knows when
𝒾𝒾𝒾. MISA'S THOUGHTS inspired by ptv's latest single !!!! love love
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You didn't believe them. You didn't believe that Natalie was wasting time to hook up with Travis instead of hunting. Or maybe you just didn't want to believe that Travis had a chance with Nat when you didn't. But in all honesty, you believed that Natalie wouldn't do something like that.
You find her by the river.
The others were still arguing back at the cabin. It started earlier when Nat and Travis came back from hunting empty-handed, which made Jackie mad and accuse Nat for running for mayor for Pound Town or some shit. Things escalated from there.
Natalie left mid-argument, and no one came along to stop her. No one cared enough to. But you did— you always do.
The lantern you took shakes in your hand as you walk pass the trees. The night was cold and quiet, your boots cracking against twigs and leaves. And finally—there she is. Sitting on a huge rock with her elbows rested on either side of her thighs.
"Natalie," you breathe, quietly approaching the bleach-blonde.
She doesn't turn.
You got closer, the faint smell of cigarettes lingering in the air filled your nose, sharp and familiar.
"You shouldn't be out here alone."
A snicker. "Neither should you." She says, voice low, almost bitter. "But here you are."
You step closer, heart hammering in your throat. The moonlight cut across her face, catching on the smudged eyeliner on her bottom eyelids. She looked cold—in a sharp way—and her fists were clenched. Still, somehow, you're drawn to her like a moth to flame.
She finally looks at you, her gaze immediately landing on your flushed face and tired eyes. "What, you come to yell at me too?"
You shook your head quickly, "No." you swallow, "Just.. didn't want you to be alone."
She huffs. Right.
"You always do that." She mutters.
"Do what?"
"Follow me. Worry about me. Like I'm gonna break if you don't."
You blink, unsure what to say.
"I don't need saving." She says sharply.
"I never said you did." You snapped back.
Nat rolls her eyes, turning her head to look away.
"Then why are you here?"
Silence follows, you clutch the hem of your jacket tightly, hesitating to say something back.
Your voice is quieter now. "Because I care."
And there it is. No taking back now.
Her eyebrows scrunch together. She looks at you again, like, really looks. The wind picks up, blowing strands of her hair across her cheek. She doesn't move to brush them away.
She looks ethereal.
Natalie gulped. "You always look at me like you want something," she says, almost accusing. "But you never take it."
Your breath catches. You weren't prepared for that.
"Then stop running away and kiss me."
Holy shit? You thought. Holy shit. Natalie thought.
Silence.
And then—she's on her feet, stepping away from the rock, and now she's standing right in front of you. Her breath mixes with yours in the cold night air. She reaches out, her hand hovering near your jacket, unsure if she was allowed to touch you.
"You sure?" She asks, voice tight, like she's fighting herself to crash her lips onto yours hard then and there.
You nod, "I'm sure."
She grabs the front of your jacket and pulls you forward, her rough lips crashing onto your soft ones.
Natalie kisses hard. But that wasn't surprising. It's not soft, it's not sweet. It's the perfect mix of wild and desperation. Like she's been wanting to do this for a long time.
She tasted like cigarettes too, but apart from that, she tasted good.
Your bring up both of your hands to cup her jaw softly, tilting your head to kiss the woman better. She sucks on your bottom lip, her breath getting heavier as you both inhaled each other.
She's the one to pull away first as your hands fall to your sides.
A pang of disappointment hits you softly, you wanted more. Your eyes searched her expression for something, anything.
And for the first time since you've known her, Natalie Scatorrcio looks like she might be afraid—not of you, but of whatever the hell is happening between the two of you.
You try to steady your voice, "Is there something wrong, Nat?"
She scoffs under her breath, turns slightly, and wipes her mouth with the back of her hand. "Don't do that."
You frowned and tilted your head, "Don't do what?"
"I— I.. Ugh!" She groans, throwing her hands up in the air dramatically. "Act like you're making it mean something."
You flinch. It stings already more than you wanted it to. "Because it does." You replied, lifting your right hand to reach out, but you slowly bring it back down once she looks away from you.
She paces a few steps away from you, her hands shoved deep inside the pockets of her jacket, her shoulders tense.
You bit your bottom lip, nervously waiting.
She finally speaks again, "You think I haven't noticed? The way you look at me when you think no one notices. The way you always defend me during fights and— fuck." Her voice breaks slightly, "you're not that subtle, you know?"
Your eyebrows furrowed, "I wasn't trying to be."
She turns back, and there's something in Natalie's eyes—not just fire anymore, but something trembling underneath it.
"You shouldn't want this."
You step forward. "Why?"
"Because I'm fucked up," she says plainly, like it's a fact. "And you? You're.. you're better than this. Better than me."
Your heart aches. You wish you could make her see what you do, all her mess and fury, but also the way she's never once let someone else suffer alone. Natalie was the type of friend who was always there for someone, to defend them, and then not accept it when someone does it back for her.
It's the way she gives her last protein bar to Lottie when she needed it. It's the way she was the first to volunteer to carry Coach Ben's stretcher to go to the lake. It's the way she leaves when she's angry because she doesn't want to say something she'll regret.
It was the 'small' things she did that you noticed.
You shake your head. "You don't get to decide what I want."
"And— the others— they already think I'm getting my way with Travis or some shit. But fuck no. That's not— we tried to hunt but we didn't find anything, I swear-" she protests, ranting.
You cut her off. "I know. I don't believe them. It just wasn't right to accuse you of something like that."
"That.. that didn't sound like something you would do. And so I didn't believe it." You exhale shakily, and Natalie goes quiet again.
Then, in a whisper, you hear her say, "I don't want to hurt you."
"You won't."
She looks up, doubtful. "You don't know that." Natalie's voice wavers, as she shakes her head.
You speak again, "I'd rather be hurt by you than spend another night pretending I don't feel this."
Something in her breaks—you see it. The tiniest shift. She exhales, long and shaky, and suddenly she reaches out to touch your hand. You accept it, slowly taking her hand into yours.
She holds them like she's testing something fragile. Like she's still deciding whether this is real.
"You scare me," she admits.
You smile, just a little. "You scare me, too."
Then she leans in again, not like earlier. Slower this time. Softer. When her lips brush yours again, it's not a crash; it's a question.
And this time, you answer it.

people like to say that jackie wasn't meant to live in the wilderness or that she wouldn't accept the killing/cannibalism that happens during winter but i actually think the opposite.
S1E2 jackie is willing to let van, her friend and teammate, burn to death screaming "help me! help me! i can't breathe!"
it's not for revenge, or something that jackie does out of anger, but none of the violence during winter is either. jackie's willing to let van die if that's the price to make sure that shauna will live. "for the record, i was trying to save you. i thought that..."
S1E6 jackie watches shauna feeling dizzy, almost passing out "whoa. hey, hey, hey. you okay?" and it's all very simple "yeah, i'm just hungry."
she gives shauna her last piece of meat. it's the only food jackie has and she gives it to shauna with a smile on her face. we know jackie is just as hungry as shauna, this scene literally starts with jackie talking about just how hungry she is, but it doesn't matter anymore when it comes to taking care of shauna. "you need it more than me. here. just take it."
still on S1E6, natalie and travis (the hunters, the ones in charge of bringing the meat) make their relationship public to the others, after coming back from a hunt empty-handed. that's the first time we see jackie being actually angry and agressive "is this why we don't have any food? 'cause you've been too busy running for mayor of pound town?" and "i guess we shouldn't be surprised. nat's always down for a good time, right?"
this scene happens two minutes after the one where jackie watches as shauna almost passes out from hunger (and jackie's not even wrong because nat and travis do spend some time making out instead of looking for food). the show is sending a clear message here that jackie is just as capable as the other girls to be agressive and angry and do violent things, not for her own survival but for shauna's.
S1E7 "you're obviously hiding something from me, and it's making me feel crazy!" and "are you really gonna keep something from me out here? what did i do? when did you stop wanting me to be your best friend?" again shows how much jackie cares about shauna, to a point of feeling jealous when she thinks shauna is trying to replace her with taissa.
the famous "you lost your virginity without telling me." is followed by a "don't worry, we're gonna get through this together." when shauna reveals she's pregnant. you can see jackie isn't mad because she "wants to have full control of shauna's life", as shauna herself believes. jackie is hurt by shauna not telling her because jackie always tells shauna everything, from what we can see from the pilot until the finale of season 1.
still on S1E7, after "when did this happen? how could i possibly have missed it?" shauna says "i have a life outside of you, you know?" and we can see jackie's expression is similar to the one in the pilot episode.
(S1E1 "i just thought you'd want to know somebody asked about you." and "shauna, just wear the red dress i gave you. the boob dress." which leads to "maybe i don't wanna wear the red dress and i sure as hell don't want to hook up with randy fucking walsh!")
in the pilot we can see how much shauna is misunderstanding jackie's actions. while jackie thinks she's being kind and helping shauna, trying to make her happy, shauna seems to be thinking "what? so jackie thinks i'm so pathetic that she needs to sell me disgusting randy fucking walsh so i won't be by myself? what, she thinks i can't find my own boyfriends?"
after shauna's outburst, the audience can see jackie's expression (confused, hurt) but shauna's too busy, looking for something to wear for the party, to see it too. later, jackie is the one to ask "are-are we cool?" as if she's the one who did something wrong.
on S1E7 it's similar ("when did this happen? how could i possibly have missed it?" / "i have a life outside of you, you know?")
jackie blames herself for not paying enough attention to shauna, for missing such an important moment in her best friend's life. but shauna thinks jackie means something different, like "how could shauna shipman find someone to have sex with without my help? how could she possibly lose her virginity before i did?"
and, once again, in S1E7 the audience can see jackie's expression (confused, hurt) but shauna's too busy looking away, stuck inside her own head, to notice what's right in front of her.
after reading shauna's journals at the end of S1E7 to look for some answers, we can see that jackie stops eating ("jax, you have to eat." / "why? what does it matter as this point?") and, instead of fighting shauna, instead of screaming at her, jackie pretends she doesn't know anything and tries to push shauna to say something ("what if this is it, shauna? everything we did, everything we didn't do. all the mistakes that we made, it's, like, permanent." / "what mistakes did you make? everybody loved you.")
jackie scoffs after shauna says "everybody loved you." because it really doesn't seem like it is true. all the yellowjackets make fun of jackie behind her back from episode 3, all of the girls turn their backs on jackie when she's the one who was being lied to, jackie's boyfriend (the one who said he loved her the day before the crash, the one who made jackie feel guilty for not saying i love you back) was cheating on her and, worst of all, the "best friend i've ever had" sees jackie as "so obsessed with yourself, i'm surprised you're aware other people even exist." and not just that but also "you tell me what to wear, what to do, who to hook up with. i don't even like soccer!" shauna literally blames jackie for being stuck in the wilderness, probably something that she also wrote on her journal.
"did i force you to live in my shadow, shauna?" when, to the audience, it seems more like jackie is shauna's puppy, always willing to drop everything for her, without shauna even having to ask.
"i'm sure everyone back home is so fucking sad to be losing their perfect little princess, but they'll never know how tragic and boring and insecure you really are. or how high school was the best your life was ever gonna get." and it hurts because, even if it wasn't true, shauna says everything like she means it, because she does. it comes from a place so deep inside her, a place of years and years staying quiet while feeling mad at jackie for things that weren't even true to begin with. shauna doesn't miss a second, she screams and she insults and she snaps at jackie the way we know shauna always dreamed of doing.
but jackie isn't actually mean, she doesn't hate shauna, she doesn't look down on shauna the way shauna does to her, so jackie doesn't actually have anything to say aside from "how could you?" she has to quote beaches so she'll have something to say.
i truly think that if shauna opened up to jackie and told her the truth, about jeff and about how shauna truly feels, how jackie makes shauna feel like i believe jackie would be really hurt and mad at first but, eventually, she'd forgive shauna.
if shauna hadn't broken jackie's heart, if jackie hadn't given up and stopped eaten, i do believe that jackie would not only be willing to cannibalize someone but i think she'd be the one to think about it first.
if jackie and javi, i don't know, were walking to clean the shit bucket or something and javi fell into the lake i do believe jackie would let him die.
the same way jackie was willing to let van burn to death if that meant shauna was safe, jackie would let javi drown if that meant shauna would survive the winter.

Sims In Bloom: Generation 2 Pt. 184 (Making Time For Friends)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before the end of his first weekend back home, Ash was playing fetch in the yard with Gord when two of his classmates at Brindleton Bay School came to visit. Scotti Holiday and Arun Kalani arrived in the afternoon, greeting their friend with warm hugs.
"Our parents said you were home and we had to see it for ourselves," announced Scotti, the eldest daughter of Travis Scott and Summer Holiday. "You don't look more like a Landgraab after a year in the city."
"Uh thanks...I think?"
"Same old Ash Landgraab," she mused. "It's good to see you again, Ashy."
Tumblr media
"My Aunt Hazel doesn't even call me Ashy anymore," he said.
"Speaking of name changes, did you hear this guy changed the spelling of his own name? Now he's A-r-u-n, but before you left he was A-r-r-o-n. Who does that?!"
Arun, the eldest son of Zoe Patel and Mitchell Kalani, scowled. "My mom said when I was born she felt like she needed to make the name on my birth certificate sound more Brindletonian, but she spelled Aaron wrong, too! My name is the one she wanted me to have in the first place, Scotti."
Tumblr media
Scotti Holiday was still a mean girl, especially as she inched closer to teenhood, but Arun Kalani wasn't exactly a great influence, either. As soon as he walked inside to use the bathroom, Conrad caught the little klepto trying to steal some artwork off the family's wall.
"Arun Kalani, the precinct isn't going to need to keep an eye on you, will they?"
Arun grimaced, foiled in the thrill of the steal. "No, Captain Gordon. I'm sorry."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lavender kept to herself while Ash hung out with his friends, doing yoga in the backyard until Gord interrupted her for a hug. (Backed up on laundry don't mind the mess!)
Gord knew Lavender disliked large groups, and even though the friendly dog loved scritches from any stranger willing to give them, some of his favourites came from the girl he'd loved and protected from the day she was born.
Lavender loved all the pets. Even Queen Cupcake, the most aloof of the bunch loved Lavender's attention, and she was often content to spend her time after homework and violin practice hanging out with her four-legged friends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But she also made time for her closest human friend, Barrett Hecking, who came by to hang out after school sometimes. Even when it rained, Lavender convinced him to cloudgaze in the mud.
"The rain keeps hitting our faces," he complained, but he followed her lead as she told a story about the skies leaking water to keep all the strays happy.
"Do you think the water knows when it has to fall?" Barrett wondered.
Lavender thought about it, pursing her lips into a curious grin. "I think so," she agreed.
Tumblr media
It was still raining when they went inside, and Barrett didn't want to put away his umbrella. "Is your roof leaking?"
"That's not the roof. My baby brother's room is upstairs."
"So then why is it raining?"
"It's not raining that hard in here. You probably don't need your umbrella."
"I just put the blue streaks in. They'll wash out!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"It's cool your dads let you put dye in your hair. My parents say I'm too young."
"We're the same age."
Lavender shrugged from the kitchen table. "That's what they said."
And the kids weren't the only ones making time for friends; Heather was at home with Emi Kudo when her sister Hazel popped by unannounced.
"Sorry it's been too long since I've been around. The cafe's really busy and so is getting everything ready for Alex's mayoral campaign."
"Has anyone declared to run against him yet?"
Tumblr media
Hazel nodded. "That's why I'm here. J Huntington, who runs Bay Landgraab Security, filed papers the other day. We need volunteers to canvas and door knock to make sure J and his heavies at the security company don't intimidate people who plan to vote for Alex Goth."
"I'll help however I can. J's guys can't intimidate the whole town, can they?"
"We hope they can't."
Hazel glanced at Emi, whom she'd never met before, and Heather remembered to introduce them. "Emi used to be a vet tech here in Brindleton Bay, but she moved to Evergreen Harbour before I bought the clinic. Her husband did the recent remodel! She's out for her dog's annual checkup and to thank me and Holly for suggesting her son audition for the San My Ballet Company."
Tumblr media
Hazel offered a friendly smile as the women moved to the sofa. "Wow, that's amazing. Congratulations!"
Emi nodded proudly. "Thank you. He moves to the city in a few weeks and he'll be staying Uptown with a family who has two girls at the ballet school - Johnny and Eva Zest. We met them over a teleconference before I flew out, and both Charlie and his twin brother, Oliver, said they recognized him from a few comedy roasts on Simflix."
"We know Johnny and Eva," said Heather. "He's my son's great-uncle on his father's side. They're great people with great kids. Charlie will be in good hands in the city."
Tumblr media
"Johnny's a funny guy," Hazel agreed warmly. "I wonder if Charlie will dance with Ash's friend Pearl."
Heather nodded. "I don't know anything about ballet, but I know Pearl has a pending offer of admission to the company when she turns thirteen. I know how headstrong her mother is, so I don't doubt Pearl in the slightest. What a small world it would be if Charlie and Pearl ended up dancing Swan Lake together someday."
"Layne and I don't want Charlie to feel any more pressure than the pressure he already puts on himself. But we know he's in the best place to build toward his dream, and we can't wait to see what he does with the opportunity."
Tumblr media
Heather and her family made all the time in the world for each other, but made time to nurture their friendships, too. As spring slowly creeped toward summer, the Gordons' lives were blissfully full. ->

NOTE: I was feeling like I had missed an opportunity to change the spelling of Arron Kalani's name to Arun when he was a baby because his his mother is Zoe Patel (and Arron always irritated me with the two r's, anyway, I know BS reason), but @matchalovertrait gave me the idea of him embracing his name's original spelling now that he's almost a teenager himself. I loved the idea so Arron is, from here on out, officially Arun Kalani!

MARI IBARRA
little by little
౨ৎ : after the events of capture the bone: you can't help but care after your friend, if that's what you guys were.
these marks across my neck (tell me im yours)
౨ৎ : A cold night, lingering tension, and the sharp press of teeth—Mari always finds a way to leave her mark.
jealousy
౨ৎ : Mari’s jealousy lingers in every touch, every kiss—she takes her time, claiming you, making sure you remember exactly who you belong to. And it's certainly not to that random bitch you're flirting with.
off script
౨ৎ : As co-stars on a hit TV show, you and Mari share on-screen drama and off-screen teasing. But when the line between acting and reality blurs, maybe some things aren’t just for the cameras.
bitter, bitter girl
౨ৎ : You and Mari have always clashed—until you save her life. Now, she won’t leave your side, and for once, her bitterness feels more like fear.
warm enough (in your embrace)
౨ৎ : in the dead of winter, two girls find fleeting warmth in each other’s arms. With the cold closing in and time running out, what they share might not be enough to survive—but it’s enough to remember.
SHAUNA SHIPMAN
save a horse (ride a cowgirl)
౨ৎ : In a town ruled by reputation, temptation is a dangerous thing. A reckless farmhand, the mayor’s daughter, and a desire that refuses to stay hidden—some lines aren’t meant to be crossed. But Shauna Shipman was never one for the rules.
riding into trouble
౨ৎ : the mayor’s daughter returns to Wiskayok and crosses paths with Shauna Shipman, a no-nonsense, free-spirited cowgirl. Trouble ensues.
reckless hands (and the wildest of nights)
౨ৎ : You've always hated Shauna Shipman. Always. So why the hell does it feel so good when she’s pressing you up against the stable wall?
LOTTIE MATTHEWS
not allowed
౨ৎ : a bottle of wine and Charlotte Matthews: your mom wouldn't be too pleased with this, would she?
Tumblr media
i write for all yellowjackets. fyi this is an mdni blog, so i won't write for travis, ben or etc. I also don't write for multiple girls at once! Like a yellowjackets × reader!

Hello! How are you? I have a question regarding the height of your power. Something I've seen mentioned both in your bisky threads and on the subreddits are his "Libertarian Police". What's going on with that? I take both subreddits with a heap of salt, so you're the most reliable source. It sounds like he knows that ACAB, but doesn't understand what it is about AC that makes them B, so he's just fucked it up even worse. Is that accurate, or am I missing something? Thanks!
Okay, so bear with me if I get something slightly wrong here because it's hard to remember the nonsensical Abnimals lore. But basically in one of the early episodes, Travis mentions that the police are on their way because there was just a robbery, but then he adds an addendum that actually in River City, the mayor actually defunded the police and then built up a private security force and focused on community programs instead. Then he also shrank the amount of government agents and agencies to get rid of corruption and red-tape bureaucracy.
What makes this weird is that this is all presented to the audience as a good thing, with no real deeper analysis of what a set up like this really means. During their various interactions with the police, including the police station heist, they operate the same way you'd expect a usual government police force to. There's not really any stakes on who is funding them or any inner conspiracy involving them. There's not even any usual corruption or injustice performed by them. They just... are. Even the fact that this decision to defund the police and give the money to private security forces came from former ex-supervillain mayor Dr. Killdeath doesn't really amount to much, as the most recent episode revealed that Dr. Killdeath actually IS reformed and is a chill dude now who is roommates with one of the knock-off TMNT characters that make up our primary NPCs.
So yeah, it really does feel as though Travis wanted to make a statement about defunding the police because it's a buzzword that would be cool to put in your setting but never really thought about what that would mean in a grand political sense and ran into the wall of, "How do you do a pastiche of superheroes and Saturday morning cartoons without a cartoon police presence?" And then because Travis' DM style and worldbuilding is often free of conflict or deeper themes, there's no further questioning or exploration of like... what does it mean for the police to be a private force, what does it mean that this policy was enacted by a former supervillain. You often get the sense that this bit of worldbuilding was forgotten about entirely.
It's why making fun of Abnimals' Libertarian Police is so funny. Travis, moment of, made an important bit of worldbuilding out of a progressive seeming quote like "defund the police" without seeming to realize that what he's describing is actually a capitalist hell of corporations and private parties taking over the government, one that mirrors what we're going through right now.

I did this for Goodneighbor, but I also have a couple DC related headcanons
- Ellie is Nick's adopted daughter. She originally hired him as a teenager to find her missing parents (to which he didn't take the money, he just did the job). But when they turned up dead, he gave her a place to stay at the agency
- After Mayor McDonough becomes slightly deconstructed, several other people in town run for the position, including Vadim, Zwicky, and Ellie. During the election, it was basically a tie for Zwicky and Ellie, with Vadim at two whole votes. But Zwicky won by one vote
- Part of his inauguration speech was a promise to allow Ghouls back into Diamond City and to enact laws that would prevent the sort of segregation from happening again. When the word was spread, many Ghouls did indeed come back, including Arlen Glass, Shelia the scavenger, and Slim the Railroad merchant
- Arlen holds a position at the school alongside Edna and makes toys for kids in Diamond City and around the Commonwealth
- After the Institute is destroyed the CPG is recreated and Wellingham the Mr Handy at the Colonial Taphouse becomes DC's representative. He quickly becomes good friends with Supervisor White from Greygarden
- Ellie sometimes secretly moonlights as the Mistress of Mystery alongside Mantaman and the Sole Survivor as the Silver Shroud. Nick knows, he just won't bring it up unless she gets hurt
- Travis plays Magnolia's music on DCR and every weekend allows musicians into the studio to play live over the airwaves. It's chaotic but it's a great time, especially in the Dugout Inn. Vadim has a "special" moonshine for the musicians, it's just as bad as the regular moonshine but cheaper
- After McDonough is revealed to be a synth, sales and interest in Piper's newspaper goes through the roof. To meet demand with limited supply, Piper does a segment for DCR every other day or so to keep up with the news cycle

Yh I think carina was often portrayed as too perfect but that's bc the writers used her more as a plot device for other peoples stories than her own individual character they made her too 1 dimensional. I cant really get over how they had her go through all the trauma of maya's mh issues and her having to 51/50 her yet we barely heard her side at all and the one episode that was a bit more focused on her (6x09) they did the stupid pam thing where they just had her discuss more baby stuff that we already knew. I think the writers were just trying to scare ppl but we knew they weren't going to split marina up for good it was just a waste of time bc they went over stuff they'd already established like carina already said she didnt want a baby without maya in 6x03 why would some random patient change that?
Carina I thought at times could be veryyy pushy and unfair she defo wasnt perfect. Like when she was worried abt maya not being focused on the baby plan in 5x10 then the literal next ep maya was trying to get involved but she just shut her down right away. She still constantly was questioning her the whole time even tho maya agreed to everything she wanted (even the stupid idea we dont talk abt) and in 6a I thought she handled maya VERY poorly. I understand it was a hard situation but confronting maya with therepy right infront of andy in 6x02 when she just saw beckett on her ass and she was visibly agitated? That's just not something you do also she straight up laughed at her in the bucket of blood incident then got suprised when maya didnt want to talk to her? Maybe I sound like an ass but I was kinda like "well wtf do you expect?" They made the baby storyline too much of her personality which is a big shame. They could've easily focused on other things for her at the same time I mean she had this whole backstory that was even partially already established for them on greys. With maya's arc in s6 it was the perfect oppurtunity to connect them but noo too interesting for these writers apparently we needed to see sullivan and ross screw all the time and travis run for mayor etc fsr
I think carina understandably had hella trust issues and quite frankly needed some help it's a shame they never wanted to do anything with her character bc she was a whole lot of wasted potential and I'll never understand why writers of tv shows are so against giving the fans what they actually want and opting to do dumb sh*t that makes no sense instead
Exactly, I feel the same way. Carina had so much potential, but the writers barely scratched the surface with her. They used her more as support for Maya’s storylines instead of developing her as a full character. And yeah, that “too perfect” vibe came from that. It wasn’t that she was perfect, but that the writers didn’t bother to show her flaws the way they did with Maya.
7x04 is a great example. She completely dismissed Maya’s thoughts on preferred parenting style and instantly brought up her father. To me that was a huge deal, but the writers decided it wasn't. And even made Carina appear to be right when Liam eventually stopped crying.
I loved that both characters had flaws, but the imbalance in how those flaws were shown made Carina feel more one-dimensional to me. The show kept digging into Maya’s issues but barely gave Carina a voice, even in moments where she needed one, like during Maya’s mental health crisis.
It’s frustrating because there were so many chances to develop Carina, (her backstory, her job, her trauma, her dynamic with Maya) but the show just didn’t go there. The character, Stefania and us viewers deserved better.

most controversial yellowjackets opinion go
I feel like we all know my most controversial one based on recent events lmao.
But I’ll say a new one…I didn’t like Jackie when I first watched the show. OKAY DON’T HATE ME KEEP READING. I originally just had the very surface level, mischaracterized view of her that I think a lot of people have when they first watch the show: that she’s a “mean girl.” And I will be the first to admit I was a dumb bitch for seeing her that way. I think what set me off was the “mayor of pound town” scene because I am such a Nat defender but I see now that Jackie was actually calling out Nat out because Shauna had almost fainted earlier due to hunger and she’s worried about her, and is therefore rightfully annoyed that the people who are supposed to be providing the food are just fucking around out there.
There is so much more to Jackie than I originally saw and she is so clearly caring and ride or die for the people she loves. And she’s also so insecure and not allowed to show it and struggling under the weight of everyone (including her parents clearly) expecting her to be perfect. Also she is so relatable because I would also be so poorly equipped for living in the wilderness. I would also be crying, putting on my lotion, sleeping in, and twink-posing while trying to carry a bucket of water; she is so real for all of that. I really understand and love Jackie now, she is one of my favorites for sure and I can’t wait to make an analysis post about her. Also I love Ella Purnell she is a fucking star.
But yeah I did not like Jackie or Travis on my first watch but grew to understand them.

OK, so I've just finished my most recent readthrough of Dungeon Crawler Carl (either my second or third) and now I'm moving on to other books for a bit (at least until book 8 comes out and I reread everything again).
So, what quotes can you expect to see on this blog for the next year or so? Well, to start with, I'm going to finish Terry Pratchett's Wyrd Sisters because I was halfway through that when This Inevitable Ruin came out and I abandoned it, so that's my next book.
After that, I'm going to finish reading the released books of Tamsyn Muir's Locked Tomb Series. I've already read Gideon the Ninth, which was good (it's no Carl, but it was good). The next two books are Harrow the Ninth and Nona the Ninth. I'm reading these on my wife's pleading. She loves The Locked Tomb as much as I love Carl so it only seems fair (even though she only got to book 4 before stopping!)
After that, my reading list is:
Discount Dan - James A Hunter
Legends and Lattes - Travis Baldree
Sentenced to Troll - The Author Steve Rowland
Cursed Cocktails - The Author Steve Rowland
The Path of Ascension - C Mantis
Hell Difficulty - Cerim
Beware of Chicken - Casual Farmer
All the Dust that Falls - Zaifyr
The Mayor of Noobtown - Ryan Rimmel
The Bobiverse - Dennis E Taylor
He Who Fights with Monsters - Shirtaloon
Dracula - Bram Stoker
The Wandering Inn - Pirateaba
Starter Villain - John Scalzi
Those books are NOT listed in any particular order, so I will accept any and all suggestions as to which ones I should read first (after Wyrd Sisters and The Locked Tomb books).
But if you're only following me for DCC quotes, there'll be a hiatus on these while I try to expand my reading horizons.

One of these days, I'm going to start calling every troll Carcrash whenever I see someone call WV "the mayor" or the Draconian Dignitary "Droog". I'm going to point at Vriska and call her the blue Carcrash while Karkat's the gray Carcrash. Her Imperious Condescension? Oh, you mean Big Fish Carcrash?
I’m really obsessed with Karkat getting called “Gray Carcrash”, as if he isn’t the original Carcrash. You have to make sure to call Kankri just “Carcrash”, rather than “Red Carcrash”.
You could also just spell everyone’s name wrong. Ardia Medigo. Travis. Pollux Castor. Carcat. Kansas. Just call Vriska Aranea for no reason, people treat them the same anyway. Terezy. The possibilities are endless.
It’s not 2009 anymore, so I don’t know if this will piss people off in the same way calling Link “Zelda” did, but it’s definitely petty, and I always condone that.

I think this is pretty decisive that I should do several of these, however I’m going to start with the 8 November 1989 stories.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are the 11 stories I had to read.
Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #2: this is the second issue of five of the story Shaman, by Denny O’Neil. LotDK, for people who are unfamiliar, was premised on being a book that largely told early-career Batman stories, generally in disconnected arcs by a wide range of writers.
The title opens with ritual human sacrifice, involving people’s hearts being cut out and a cult run by people from Santa Prisca. The plot is about a particular mask from an indigenous community in Alaska that was ‘collected’/bought by a professor of anthropology. This particular mask is of a bat, and traditionally used in healing rituals. Also during this story, Bruce and Alfred decide to move Bruce’s crime fighting HQ into the Cave (as I said, this is a VERY early career story).
I have read this story previously (because it’s interrelated to and occasionally referenced in various Barbatos and Zur-En-Arrh storylines), so I know where it’s going, but as a single issue this has a lot of moving various story lines along but not a lot of context on what’s happening or how they’re related.
Action Comics #648: and another second issue in a storyline! This is part two of the Brainiac Trilogy. A good chunk of this issue is just Metallo recounting his backstory to Brainiac. Outside of that, a swarm of Metallo robots are attacking Lexcorp Tower, and Clark beats them up. This infuriates Lex, of course. Brainiac gets cryogenically frozen and this allows him to project his mind at people he’s implanted control chips in, because comics, and at Cadmus Dubbilex senses Brainiac’s men and Metallo trying to steal shit and sends both Guardian and Superman to prevent it.
Clark also makes “I’m disarming you” and “I’m not leaving you with a leg to stand on” jokes while lasering off Metallo’s limbs with his heat vision. Oh, Clark. You think you’re so funny.
Justice League Europe #9: this I had so little context on. The main things that happen are Power Girl needs surgery (performed by Clark via heat vision assisting the doctors) because of injuries from the previous issue (Clark's doing a lot with heat vision this week, it seems). Also Wally and Ralph Dibney come to a level of reconciliation over how much they both miss Barry by telling each other stories of fights Barry had.
The Question #33: oh, hilariously this is actually a good stand alone issue of The Question (and also an important one) given it’s the first appearance of Harold Allnut. I will note that the art for this certainly prematurely ages Harold, making him look older than his mother. But essentially what is happening is a criminal is released from prison and sent by a corrupt judge to attack/kill Myra, who is Mayor at this point.  Harold helps Myra start her car when it’s broken down and then stays with her, helping her protect Jackie from the attack.
I will note this particular exchange occurs (because it’s very 1980s and also still topical today):-
Vic: He said Judge Whelperson released Cathy Fregosi on his own recognizance today. Tot: You said “Cathy” and then said “his”. Pronoun trouble? Vic: No, Cathy is a he.
(Context: Cathy is being used as a nickname for Carlton, the guy who comes after Myra)
Green Arrow #27: I'm going to open by pointing out this wasn't deliberate, this was a completely randomly generated number.
GUESS WHICH ISSUE THIS IS? IT'S THE ONE WHERE TRAVIS MORGAN SHOWS UP, GETS MISTAKEN FOR OLLIE, AND PUNCHES OLLIE!
God this was glorious. Now of course nothing happening in this was a mystery to me, given Travis' helmet outline is visible on the cover and they literally use The Warlord's fonts in the cover and splash.
But Mike Grell and Dan Jurgens have a whale of a time slowly making hints of who this green coated man actually is, revealing more and more details. Truly, they had fun with it and so did I reading along and spotting everything.
Doctor Fate #12: in part 3 of The Death of Innocence, Doctor Fate (Eric Strauss) and Doctor Fate (Linda Strauss) are fighting Darkseid in Apokolips. They join their power together to become stronger by combining via what they describe as their 'sacred union' and their love. They end up so attuned they are talking to each other psychically. Unfortunately, during this battle Darkseid kills Eric.
I had to do a wiki dive to work out what on earth was going on with these two characters, and I couldn't do those summaries justice if I tried. Both DC Database and LOCG have corkers of write ups. We'll START with the fact that these two are step mother and step son, and YES they're in love and mystically fated to be together, also Eric was artificially aged up from age 10 to adulthood when he became Doctor Fate (but apparently is still mentally 10 years old). And that's just the start of it.
I am not sure I need or indeed want to read any more of this run, but it's the most concentrated comics nonsense I've seen in quite a while.
I will also note that this comic does not have Comics Code Approval on the cover. Which, I am not shocked over, but what IS interesting to me is that some of other comics in this set that also don't have approval (The Question, Green Arrow) are listed as for Mature Readers, and this is not. Which. Hmmm.
Mister Miracle #10: Barda's hair is this incredible intricate braided updo in this (yes of course my priorities are in order). The general plot of this is that Scott and Barda are living in a small town hiding their identities and trying to fit in with the humans, only it's just come out that "Mister Miraculous" (what the news is calling Scott, to his disgust) is fighting crime around the town, and a newbie hero who wants to be the super of this tiny community decides to fight Scott.
Suicide Squad #36: this is a very complicated issue to drop into, because it's at the climax of a story about the Squad attacking Apokolips. Despite coming out at the same time as the Doctor Fate story, fighting Darkseid, and having Barda with the team facing Granny Goodness, this story is completely unrelated to the two stories listed above it.
What's continuity and coordination, folks?
There's a lot going on here, but I think the most important aspect if you've never read it is that Doctor Light (the villain, the one whose mindwipe comes up in Identity Crisis) dies in this issue. And explicitly goes to hell.
Captain Atom #36: this issue is called "The Secret Origin of Everyone!" This is a corner of DC I know very little about, and the explanations of this character called the Silver Shield and how it's related to Captain Atom lore are not particularly easy to follow.
Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure #1: this is a 32 page comics adaption of the movie screenplay. And it's exactly that. I'm not sure there's much else to say about it. I have to say, it’s not very funny to read as as lot of the jokes clearly depend on mispronunciations, accents and comedic timing, and so look dull and stale written down.
Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children #6: this is some experimental storytelling. Happy Birthday to Hell is the Devil explaining his version of events about why he was kicked out of Heaven, and why it wasn't an interesting place to be in the first place, in the tone of a contemporary human with mundane problems. There's a whole rant, for instance, about trying to buy shoes at the shops when you have cloven hooves.
The whole comic is sketched double spreads, with a handwritten monologue from the Devil in cursive all the way through, making it difficult at times to follow.
