it’s been a hot minute since i’ve gone on a deep dive about station 19 (partially my faul because i’m busy losing my marbles on twitter, what can i say) anyways, i wanted to go in depth about the episodes because it’s nice to do what i started doing and two it allows me to rewatch the episode and catch details that i normally wouldn’t when i’m watching it live. after all that being said, buckle up folks it’s 6x07 time! as usual spoilers ahead:

picking up right where we left off, the incident at meredith’s which of course was the scene where 19 was called at and of course what mortified all of us for more than 100 days, maya’s fall and her injuries once someone found her + also interesting to notice that beckett allowed andy to handle the scene, does that mean he was unable to call the shots or he’s playing safe here? + jack finding maya made sense since he was there but i’m curious, he noticed her turnouts on the floor and didn’t wonder where she was? like if she was on desk duty her turnouts wouldn’t be there in the first place idk

something that lots of people pointed out is that jack just carried maya without any support on her neck and back and i agree with them, he didn’t know the extent of her injuries or how long she was down, i’m wondering why he didn’t call 911 first and just waited for them to help but i guess that was made for the drama (?) + i’m wondering how the whole mayor storyline will unfold, like is montgomery gonna quit being a firefighter or what? unless dixon gets arrested or something for a scandal i don’t know where this is headed

i just wished ross character wasn’t involved romantically with sullivan that would be great + oh travis you messed up big time + this story was wild af, to think that these things happen all the time and they turn way worse than this is disgusting + the way maya pushed herself to that limit hurts my soul, to know that she will get the help she needs down the road gives me a little comfort but right now it hurts + i have to say the cuffs threw me off so badly😂

“where’s carina?” oh no poor maya this is just the beginning of a rollercoaster + “you look guilty” lmao busted + this is so random for sure + poor kid :( + the second carina saw jack she knew something was wrong, the tremble in her voice gave it away + i have to say danielle’s performance is so incredible, you can notice how broken maya looks by just staring at her eyes + and of course she doesn’t realize how bad she is… trauma and abuse is a hell of a thing

hughes, herrera and ross were the mvp of this episode totally + i was so tense the entire scene geez + this scene is so important when jack tells carina about maya, at first i was like ugh not again jack being in the middle of maya and carina but rewatching it i noticed how this seems to be the moment where carina chooses to help maya whether she wants it or not.

these women are incredible and i wished they would fight sexism and the abuse within the force because i know they can

not adrdessing the ladies too much because the two storylines happening are literally the only thing i was able to think for this entire episode

the way maya doesn’t even begin to see how hurt she is and how badly she needs to allow others to help hurts me, the worst part is that so many people can relate to this, growing up under abusive parenting can result into this and even worse things, i just wanna hug maya so badly

i also want to hug carina so badly, i don’t think she knows the extent of maya’s trauma maybe just bits and pieces but not the whole story which makes me wonder if the show will ever let them figure this out and have a conversation about it + i hate how they all worried after maya literally was vanishing in front of them like ugh + i’m surprised how no one has actually caught beckett day drinking, this man has been slipping since he got to station 19 + carina leaving really broke me :(

that was such an emotional episode like wow i ended up having to lay down for a minute or two because my head was spinning. i watched this live, i read lots of opinions about maya and carina and i just have to say there’s no good or bad in this story, maya has endured abuse her entire life and as result she pushes herself to the point of hurting, physically and mentally of course; carina also has endured abuse but the way she was affected by this is clearly different from maya’s, she isn’t a bad person by taking some space and time to understand the next steps, she has to take care of herself and in order to do that she needed maya to understand she needs help too. it’s so easy to point fingers and say “oh maya is horrible for saying those things” or “carina is awful because she left”. maya is hurt and obviously what she said wasn’t nice by any means but i remember reading somewhere that hurt people hurts people, and again carina has spend basically her entire life taking care of others, she needs the space to heal and allow maya to heal too.

station 19 came back stronger than ever and after this episode and 6x08 (which i watched live but i’m gonna rewatch because the streaming was wacky) it makes me feel that we’re getting something far better than we got in season 5 and for that i’m grateful. it may or may not be the writer’s intention but they created the most layered and best character in the entire show and her name is maya bishop. catch ya in the next one!

la caja de los secretos ha sido abierta y los montgomery tendrán que lidiar con las consecuencias.

los pasajes han sido comprados y también han sido pagadas las deudas de las personas que vendrán a la mansión de los montgomery. daniel montgomery ha decidido a traer a todos los fantasmas del pasado de sus hijos, hasta esos fantasmas que él mismo enterró para no ensuciar el apellido y no caer su imperio, un hombre que en su último aliento quiso que todos se enfrentarán sus realidades y no las ocultan como lo hizo él y su esposa en algún momento. la gran familia estará reunida por última vez después de veinte años de secretos. ¿podrán todos volverá crear lazos y reparar las heridas que en algún momento tuvieron? porque al final de cuenta un montgomery siempre debe seguir adelante y nunca mirar hacia el pasado, es el lema familiar.

cosas a tomar en cuenta: pueden hablar con los user de los personajes para saber más de la historia y la relación entre ambos.

todos estarían llegando una semana después de la leída del testamento. claramente daniel le envió una carta a todas las personas explicando la situación y también porque los pasajes hacia la hacienda.

muchos aún tendrán dudas, pero eso trae más encanto a la situación. si tienen problemas pueden venir a mis mensajes y hablar del tema.

¿qué más? tener cuidado a la hora de elegir fc, especialmente si el cupo es de hij- porque pueden hablar problemas.

para reservar el personaje: deben reservar a través de los mensajes personales y luego subir la ficha del personaje, también deberán hablar con la user que lleva todo el desarrollo y así se ponen de acuerdo en ciertas cosas, que tal vez acá no queden claras.

acá podrán observar historias & también lo que está pasando en el verse.

las personas que lleguen al verse pondrán empezar a rolear desde el viernes/diez de esta semana.

pueden encontrar la ficha de personajes en el mismo tag que está arriba.

pueden tomar a personajes aunque sean del verse, pero no tomen a personajes que están metidos en el desarrollo de su personaje, pueden tomar a otros.

todos los personajes tienen una pequeña historia para hacer todo esto más ameno y de alguna manera todo salga más natural y sin problemas.

conoció alexander cuando eran apenas unos niños y tuvieron un romance sacado de una novela de amor. se casaron cuando cumplieron la mayoría de edad y tuvieron a su primer primogénito a los diecinueve años. se llevó siempre bien con su suegro y especialmente con suegra. cuando pasó el accidente culpó a sus los hermanos por la pérdida de su esposo y no dudo en demandarlos, a pesar de que la demanda no quedó en nada. sigue creyendo firmemente que sus hijos merecen todo el legado de los montgomery y nada para los otros. ha vuelto por la justicia y también para la leída del testamento. se sabe también nunca se llevó bien con los hermanos de su esposo.

estuvo muy apegado a sus tíos y tía cuando era más pequeño, siempre pasaba en el rancho mientras su tío jack le enseñaba la vida del campo, al igual que su padre le enseñaba ciertas cosas. pero todo cambio cuando falleció su padre, se volvió frió y ácido contra la familia de su padre, y claramente cree que todo fue intencional. apoya bastante a su madre con el hecho de la herencia y las promesas que le hizo su abuelo en algún momento. se parece demasiado a su padre.

TRAVIS MONTGOMERY

trabajo: Medico militar (veterano) y escritor.

edad: cuarenta y dos

relaciones & nombres de sus parejas: Ha tenido muchas relaciones luego de volver de la guerra, antes de ella otras cuantas más, por lo que no son - para él - relaciones relevantes. Se acuerda de unas cuatro relaciones, todas terminadas fortuitamente..

hijos: Qué el sepa, no tiene hijos, posibilidades hay.

& Un poco de su vida:

Luego del incendio no quería estar en casa, tenía constantes pesadillas con respecto a sus hermanos menores y su madre, todo gracias a fantasmas de la milicia, eso siempre lo ha tenido claro, fue por ello que decidió que tenía que irse de casa sin decir nada a nadie, no era que no le importasen sus hermanos pero no los había sentido demasiado cercanos, aun más desde que estuvo en el servicio militar al salir de la escuela. La relación con su padre era casi que catastrófica, él le quería a su lado, por ende no le gustó que Travis se uniera a la milicia y dejase sus estudios de medicina; y el muchacho no lo quería ni ver, ya que cuando era menor descubrió que una vez golpeó a su madre, desde ahí siempre le llevó la contraria y solían pelearse a gritos. Poco fue el tiempo en que pudo quedarse en ese lugar de malos recuerdos, seguía discutiendo con su padre, quien a penas le miraba, todo gracias al uniforme y a que le recordaba a su difunta esposa.

El momento en que dejó la casa, fue cuando se sintió libre, ahora ya no era una especie lobo solitario ya que había congeniado muy bien con sus amigos. Fue en Afganistán donde las cosas se volvieron extrañas, ya todo era casi catastrófico, dos de sus mejores amigos murieron en batalla y otro en un atentado cuando iba de una ciudad a otra para volver a casa, pero Travis siguió haciendo su trabajo, con el dolor de su alma. Fue gracias a un alto militar que pudo formar una carrera como médico prontamente en medio de la guerra, inclusive con sus pocos años en medicina, yendo de menos a más, este mismo fue quien le exigió que volver a casa, aunque; Travis quería seguir apoyando a las fuerzas, el muchacho necesitaba un respiro; a pesar de no querer irse de su amado trabajo, hizo lo que el alto mando le indicaba, así volviendo a la ciudad a retomar sus estudios.

& Relación con sus hermanos.

Todas las relaciones tienen altos y bajos, desde que Travis se fue si decir nada y obviamente debilitó todo con sus hermanos, a pesar de que el trato era cordial, excepto con el mayor de ellos, a quien apodaba R con mucha admiración, de echo fue por él que decidió anteriormente entrar a medicina. Antes de irse a la guerra fue a verlo a Japón, intentando que este guardarse el secreto de que iba a una posible muerte, no quería que nadie de su familia supiera muchas cosas de él.

Pero para mantener las cosas tranquilas y que no piensen que ha muerto sin decirle a nadie, Travis empezó un trabajo como escritor, bajo el nombre de Mike Travis ha publicado unos cuantos libros en conjunto a su trabajo como médico residente en Nueva York, donde también trabaja su hermano.

& Todo lo que más quieran.

Travis tiene una personalidad un tanto cambiante, luego de que volvió de la guerra las cosas nunca fueron iguales, tiene constantes pesadillas con respecto a lo vivido y suele tener problemas de ira. Muchas personas creen que tiene estrés post-traumático pero jamás ha sido tratado.

En cuanto a las relaciones es un chico como muchos otros, teniendo relaciones que no son demasiado importes para él, solo unas cuantas han marcado su vida, pero no por mucho tiempo ya que posee una memoria selectiva para ese tipo de cosas. Es más de relaciones casuales y de otras que se convierten en tormentosas.

Siempre quiso ser marino, pero eligió medicina para irse luego de casa.

Es donante de esperma, por lo que puede tener descendencia.

Con un dinero que le fue otorgado tiene una cafetería en texas, nadie sabe que es dueño de esta.

amante de los perros, cuando dejó el departamento de su hermano mayor, pudo optar a tener un par de hermosas mascotas, un Boyero de Berna, Dagr y un Pastor Belga Tervueren, Heimdall que viven felices en su gran departamento.

Siempre viaja en su motocicleta, aunque su impala negro es su amor.

· Trabajo: Médico Veterinaria.

· Relaciones & hijos. Soltera, sin hijos. Ha tenido varias relaciones a lo largo de su vida, pero aún no ha encontrado el indicado con el cual compartir su vida, cosa que no le preocupa de todas formas, está bastante bien sola.

· Su vida:

Durante toda su vida Sophia se la ha pasado en el campo, rodeada de animales y de la naturaleza, no se imagina en otro escenario que no sea ese. Sus padres, dueños de una gran hacienda productora de ganado hacían negocios constantemente con los Montgomery, negocios de años que eventualmente forjaron una gran amistad. Debido a esto la mayor parte de su infancia la pasó entre la hacienda de los Montgomery y la suya, tiene muy buenos recuerdos del lugar y logró entablar grandes amistades con los hijos de la familia.

Entre ellos estuvo Travis, su primer amor y mejor amigo, eran inseparables donde encontrabas a uno estaba el otro, si no fuera por la química que compartían probablemente hubiesen pensado que eran hermanos. Si bien su romance nunca se concretó, apenas compartieron un beso a corta edad, la amistad se mantuvo latente por años, incluso cuando Travis se fue a la guerra se seguían comunicando por cartas con Sophia, ni la distancia podría separar el afecto que se tenían.

Cómo era de esperarse al ser una amante nata de la naturaleza y de los animales, la joven Sophia decidió estudiar medicina veterinaria, quería dedicar toda su vida a cuidar animales. Sus padres no muy contentos con la decisión, ya que esperaban que la chica fuera la encargada de la hacienda y sólo se preocupara de eso, dejaron de todos modos que emprendiera el vuelo y fuera estudiar a la universidad más prestigiosa en el campo de Veterinaria. Con sus excelentes notas, y sin necesidad de una beca fue aceptada en la mejor universidad de Estados unidos y del mundo, la universidad de California Davis. Ahí se graduó, con notas muy superiores al promedio y luego se dedicó a especializarse en animales mayores y equinos.

Su pasión por los caballos es tan grande, que ha convertido parte hacienda de su familia en un campo escuestre. Donde da clases de equitación, polo e incluso hipoterapia para ayudar a niños con problemas promoviendo su rehabilitación. Ejerce como veterinaria en distintos lugares, y se encarga del manejo sanitario del ganado tanto de la familia Montgomery como el de la suya, además de ser la veterinaria encargada para cuidar los caballos de la familia.

· Relación con los hermanos:

Al haberse criado con ellos técnicamente, se lleva muy bien con todos. Especialmente con Travis con el cual mantienen una hermosa amistad de años.

También es muy cercana a Jack, lo ayuda constantemente con los caballos, y comparten su afinidad con los animales, es probablemente a la única persona que Jack le dejaría acercarse a los animales, razón por la cual actualmente se convirtió en la veterinaria oficial de la hacienda.

· Más de ella:

· Es fanática de los animales, tiene 5 perros guardianes en su hacienda, y una cantidad inmensa de animales de granja, a los cuales puede diferenciar a la perfección y les tiene un nombre único a cada uno.

· Es una fotógrafa amateur, le encanta sacar fotos, aunque recién está aprendiendo.

· Es muy risueña y le encanta ayudar a los demás.

· Ve a todos como sus cercanos como sus hermanos menores a los cuales debe proteger.

· Le gustan las carreras de caballo, y disfruta de ir a verlas y en algunas ocasiones apostar, donde generalmente gana.

All Character TidBits So Far

Long post ahead:

Here are all Character Bios that have been published so far. Spoiler Free (sorta)

Name: Francis Elias Montgomery

Codename: Prestige

Age: 16/17

DoB: August 29

Race: Mixed (Mother's black, father's white)

Hair: Blond

Eyes: Gray

Height: 6'2

Costume: Grey/Light blue vintage military/airforce jacket, slate gray pants, knee-high boots. Ruffled cravat or aviator scarf, sometimes single epaulette with a short cape. Slate gray domino mask.

Powers: Photokinesis, enhanced agility and durability.

Francis is the son of Mayor Temitope Montgomery and Arthur Montgomery. It's not clear what kind of person he is. He can be extremely kind and charming, but switch to moody and secretive, or vicious and condescending at the drop of a hat.

He's avoids social contacts out of school, often burying himself in his room, studying. His only 'friends' seem to be Taylor Redford and his posse, though he seems to have a decent enough relationship with Trudie and Fern.

He seems mortally afraid that his parents might find out about the former.

He's stubborn as all Hells, often acting without thinking and rushing into action, in and out of custom. His photokinetic powers are well-developed, and he specializes on illusions and small solid light constructs.

He has an ongoing rivalry with Marcus, can't stand jokes about his height, and is allergic to pollen.

Has a younger sister, Lori.

Powers: Chronokinesis, limited Cryokinesis

FreezeFrame is a skilled chrono- and cryokinetic, and rather foul-mouthed. He takes great pride in being a 'villain' even though many that know him would disagree that he is one. He tends to do the 'right and good' thing a little 'too often', and his villainous efforts are a little... intriguing. He hates when people think of him as a hero, left alone claim that he has the heart in the right place. (Truth be told, he's still flattered when he thinks no one's looking)

He is a quick thinker, capable of assessing situations at first or second glance. Unfortunately he is even quicker at acting, often jumping into the fray before the first glance reached his brain. He can be a bit disorganized, sometimes forgetting his powers in the heat of the moment.

He's a Nightfall veteran, and even before that had an ongoing rivalry going with MetaMorphia, which developed into a consensual, mutual hateship. They hooked up after the great Unmasking.

Height: 6'9

Ian is the younger (4 minutes 42 seconds) of two twins. He's quite a bit of a bookworm, preferring burrowing himself in the library or at home over meeting with people. This does not mean he prefers not to interact with others. He's at his simultaneously best and worst when he can talk to people and share information. His biggest short-coming is that he can talk very fast and without any form of punctation.

The worst thing one can do to him (especially then) is to either just pretend to have any interest, or to tell him to shut up. Then Ian tends to retreat into himself and become short worded.

He's kind and usually collected, bit of the embodiment of the idea of a gentle giant. However there are things he despises to speak about, especially The Gloom and his brother Jamie. He can also be rather secretive when he thinks involving others would harm them.

He has a very odd relationship with Heatstroke, speaks fluent german and can't cook, except for desserts.

Costume: A black leather combat suit with steel grey lines on the fingers, a hood and a half-mask. It's smooth and full of sharp angles at the same time.

Powers: Weapon-Summoning

Before Nightfall Switchblade was known as one of the most dangerous and vicious villains in all of Cornucopia. A gun (and literally all other kinds of weapons) for hire, he had contacts all throughout CoCi's underworld.

He's been responsible for a long list of robberies and kidnappings, and a longer list of property damage. He has, however, rarely killed people (regular or with powers) outside of collateral damage, as he deems that too simple. Truth be told he considers killing out of sheer bloodlust a waste of time.

His speciality are weapons to counter his opponents the best, one of the reasons he has quite a bit of a god-complex.

He's snarky, grumpy and condescending, and, much to his dismay, an odd kind of caring in his core. As much as he delights seeing others fail, there often comes a point where he gets so frustrated by it that he'll jump in to set people straight. He hates that fact.

This trait is also the reason why he's part of the Unmasked Generation, and why he became a coach at the new-founded APORIA. Because he (quote) 'can't trust those morons (heroes) with a whole new generation. They got us Odium, can't have that again'.

His personality has marginally improved (maybe because he is aware the whole city now has his eyes on him), but he still has it out for a couple of people. Powerhouse and Marcus especially.

Powers: Electrokinesis

There's not much known about Powerhouse before the events of Nightfall.

He's always been regarded as overly pessimistic, snarky and quite a bit of a loner. He is, however, very full of himself and his ego is one of the best ways to get him to cooperate.

He delights in being a hero (as snarky as he is), but tends to overwork himself, especially once children are involved. There might be something in his past (that Switchblade and Kaleydoscope knew about) that's the reason for this.

He was also one of the main reason for the CHIPPER (CHImeran and Powered People Equity Regulation), which finally prohibited employers etc from putting Powered Individuals (especially Chimerans) at any form of disadvantage.

It might have been that CHIPPER caught on faster than some other laws of similar nature One due to CoCi's very nature, and Two, who would genuinely want to mess with someone who can turn one's organs inside out, acting as if oneself is by nature superior? (Unfortunately, there have been and are people who... don't have much common sense or human decency... but they're getting fewer)

Powerhouse retired after Nightfall, settling down to become an electrician (St John Electrics), but he keeps a wary eye on Switchblade, who went to work at the newly founded APORIA.

Rumors have it that he turned to the EMPeror to help him with his right arm, which was turning more and more into uncontrollable electricity.

Costume: Gray hooded cape, domino mask.

Powers: Alcokinesis

Bacchanalia was one of the youngest Powered Individuals fighting at Nightfall. She's been a shy and quiet young girl with the bizarre power of conjuring and manipulating alcohol (she never liked that).

She tried to prove herself as a hero, but vanished before the final battle.

It's not clear what exactly became of her, but given the circumstances of her disappearance she might have willingly joined Odium.

She was said to be easily influenced by others, so many do believe in that theory.

Digging deeper into her history afterwards revealed that she had come from a quite unhappy home and had caused her parents' (mother and stepfather) deaths through alcohol poisoning.

Her biological father is working hard on redeeming her name.

Powers: Umbrakineis, Power-Theft, Teleportation

Lionel Donovan is one of the most dangerous people in Cornucopia.

By all official means a legit businessman, it's an open (but legally unprovable) secret that he is the head of one of CoCi's worst criminal organizations.

Scorn is regarded as as ruthless as he is cunning, but indisputably fair. Most people that cross him even show up alive again.

His official businesses range from casinos to hotels to shipping companies across town, his unofficial ones... are the same in a much darker shade of moral and lethality.

The most well-known (infamous) establishment of the latter kind is a nightclub/aether-den called Bliss, located on the fourth ring of the TC-D. The Bliss had been the property of the Jade Empress around 15 years ago, before she made the fatal mistake of kidnapping Scorn's son Colby (Naught), trying to press money and property out of Scorn.

It's not clear if (and if, how) the Jade Empress survived this misstep, but her demise secured Scorn the control over the third and fourth ring. Only recently someone using the alias of Jade Empress surfaced as the head of the organization controlling the fifth to eighth ring, but it's not clear if this is the same woman, someone using her name, or if there even is an actual person.

Scorn is a most talented umbrakinetic, teleporter and power-thief, quite a bit of a bon vivant and a widower. As ruthless and cold as he is in business, as caring and loving he is as a father.

FaceClaim: Aramis Knight

Costume: A black leather long coat with an unhealthy amount of zippers, black jeans and t-shirt, black half-mask covering eyes, nose and cheeks.

Powers: Picturakinesis, Enhanced agility and speed.

Marcus is the only child of Catalina and Sawyer Hayes. He's a decently skilled picture-manipulator, though he seems unable to use his powers on colored images. He blames this inability on a lot of outside factors, first and foremost his ongoing rivalry with Francis, as well as Switchblade who he's convinced is out for him.

His rivalry with Francis is a mystery to their common associates, as only the two seem to know what started it. Some do suspect that it has something to do with a combination of Marcus and Francis' social backgrounds and even more so the unknown fate of Marcus' father and the resulting depression of his mother.

Marcus is convinced that the hero Eclipse and his father are the same person, though his sole prove is the fact that they both went missing the same night. This believe has traces of an obsession.

His father and Francis are topics to piss Marcus off beyond anything, at all other times he's easy-going, friendly and helpful. His tendency to pepper his speech with puns is either his biggest strength or worst weakness. It's certainly one reason Francis dislikes him.

FaceClaim: Kerry Washington

Costume: A golden or bronze domino mask and a catsuit of the same color, along with myriads of lengths of fabric floating around her if they don't pull together to a tunic like garment over the catsuit. Knee-high silver boots.

Powers: Fabrikinesis, Enhances strength, speed and agility

Temitope's been a famed opera singer (yes, she did play Queen of the Night, and yes, she can still hit those notes), and decided to go into politics shortly after the foundation of APORIA. There's rumors that at least one of her parents is a Slider, but no one knows for certain.

She is as kind as she can be determined and focused, which has brought her good reputation in her professions. As La Mode she is a fabrikinetic with enhanced strength and speed.

She's been one of the initiators of the Nightfall Initiative, alongside her husband, and her arch-rival Madame Tarantula. La Mode and Madame had both heard rumors of the two have them having had children and both felt it was their responsibility to do something against Odium for the sake of the coming generation.

Tem has always been juggling her careers and family, and by her own account it has gotten easier since the Grand Unmasking. She is currently determined to find the weakness in Scorn's official image to finally bring him down.

Powers: Weapon-Summoning, telekinesis

Artemis is the self-proclaimed threshold between Powered Individuals and Hero-dom. Which translates to them being the receptionist at APORIA's Assessment Unit. They are snarky as all Hell, have no nerve for ignorance, but are usually good natured. Maybe they enjoy winding people up a little too much.

The higher-ups at APORIA might be the only ones (besides Artemis' parents) who know Artemis' first name (though there's speculation that Artemis IS their first name).

They're a skilled weapon-summoner and telekinetic, but tend to overstep lines on a regular basis, getting them into trouble with people like Switchblade often enough. Nevertheless they are part of Unit 11, SPIRID's most... peculiar team.

1 - Alabama: Claudette Colvin

Before Rosa Parks, there was Claudette Colvin. Born in 1939 in Montgomery, Alabama, Colvin became the first person to be arrested for rebelling against bus segregation in the city after refusing to give up her seat to a white person in 1955. At the time, Colvin was just 15 years old

2 - Alaska: Blanche McSmith

Blanche McSmith (center left) was born in 1920 in Texas. After moving to Alaska in 1949, McSmith became president of the NAACP’s Anchorage branch. A decade later, Smith made history by becoming the first black representative in the Alaska legislature.

3 - Arizona: Dr. Rick Kittles

Dr. Rick Kittles is a highly renowned figure in the field of genetics, known for using DNA testing to explore the ancestry of African-Americans. He currently serves as Chair of Minorities in Cancer Research at the American Association for Cancer Research.

4 - Arkansas: John Cross, Jr.

John Cross Jr. was born in Haynes, Arkansas in 1925. In 1962, Cross became a pastor at the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama where civil rights activists would often convene. In 1963, the church was the site of a bomb by KKK members that killed four young girls. Cross became a leader for the grieving town by continuing his sermons and presiding over the three of the girls’ funerals.

5 - California: Octavia Butler

Octavia Butler, born in 1947 in Pasadena, California, was one of few black female sci-fi writers during the high point of her career in the 1970s. In 1995, her work was prestigiously rewarded when she became the first sci-fi author to receive the MacArthur fellowship or “genius grant.” With the money from the grant, Butler bought a home for her mother and herself.

6 - Colorado: Larry Dunn

Larry Dunn, born in Denver, Colorado in 1953, was the keyboardist of Earth, Wind & Fire for 11 years. He helped create the band’s 1975 hit “Shining Star.”

7 - Connecticut: Adam Clayton Powell, Jr.

Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1908, but New York is where he made history. In 1945, Powell became the first black person to become a U.S. Representative for the state of New York. Many of the bills he proposed during his 15 years in office would eventually be included in the Civil Rights Act of 1965.

8 - Delaware: Clifford Brown

Born in Wilmington, Delaware in 1930, Clifford Brown was an accomplished jazz trumpeter who helped set the standard for the musicians who would succeed him. In 1989, the first Clifford Brown Jazz Festival, which remains an annual event, was held in Wilmington, Delaware to honor the late musician.

9 - Florida: Esther Rolle

From Broadway shows to the classic sitcom “Good Times,” Esther Rolle, born in 1920 in Pompano Beach, Florida, had a prominent acting career. Audiences loved Rolle’s character on TV sitcom “Maude,” so much so that the show’s producer Norman Lear created “Good Times” as a spinoff series in which Rolle would star.

10 - Georgia: Cynthia McKinney

Born in 1955, Cynthia McKinney of Atlanta, Georgia, became the first black woman to represent the state in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1992.

11 - Hawaii: Barack Obama

Born in 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii, Barack Obama made history on November 4, 2008 when he was elected to become America’s first black president. His legacy has been an inspiration for citizens worldwide.

12 - Idaho: Victor Wooten

Born in Mountain Home, Idaho in 1964, Victor Wooten was a member of the jazz band Bela Fleck and the Flecktones before embarking on a career as a solo musician. Wooten is a five-time Grammy winning musician was voted one of the top bassists of all time by a Rolling Stone reader poll.

13 - Illinois: Lorraine Hansberry

Born in Chicago, Illinois in 1930, Lorraine Hansberry was the first black playwright to have their work staged on Broadway with “A Raisin In The Sun.” She was also the youngest American to receive a New York Critics Circle award.

14 - Indiana: Major Taylor

Marshall Walter “Major” Taylor was born in 1878 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the first black person to become a champion in a sport and held seven world records by the time he retired at 32-years-old. He retired as one of the richest athletes in history.

15 - Iowa: Charity Adams Earley

Although born in South Carolina in 1918, Charity Adams Earley made history in Fort Des Moines, Iowa when she became one of the first black female officers of the Women’s Army Corps. She later became the first black woman to be commissioned by the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps.

16 - Kansas: Charlie Parker

Indeed, “Bird Lives” in heart and mind in Kansas City where Charlie “Yardbird” Parker was born in 1920. Parker was a highly influential jazz soloist and a leading figure in the development of bebop, a form of jazz characterized by fast tempos, virtuosic technique and advanced harmonies. Parker was an icon for the hipster subculture and later the Beat Generation, personifying the jazz musician as an uncompromising artist and intellectual rather than just an entertainer.

17 - Kentucky: bell hooks

Born Gloria Jean Watkins in Hopkinsville, Kentucky in 1952, noted cultural scholar, award-winning author and black feminist who goes by the namesake of her great grandmother, bell hooks. In 2015, the bell hooks Institute was created at Berea college. The institute allows for a comprehensive study into hooks’ works and theories.

18 - Louisiana: Madam C.J. Walker

Born Sarah Breedlove in 1867 in Near Delta, Louisiana, Madam C.J. Walker epitomizes the term “self-made.” By inventing and selling hair products, Walker became first American woman to become a self-made millionaire. Walker created a hair routine that’s still popular among black women today referred to as the “Walker System.” Walker donated some of her money to black organizations like the NAACP and the black YMCA.

19 - Maine: William Burney

Born in Augusta, Maine in 1951, William Burney was elected the first black mayor of the town in 1988. (Picture unavailable).

20 - Maryland: Thurgood Marshall

Thurgood Marshall was born in 1908 in Baltimore, Maryland. As NAACP Chief Counsel, in 1952, he took on the case of Brown vs. Board of Education (1954) on behalf of the plaintiffs. Marshall won the case, which deemed public school segregation to be unconstitutional. In 1967, Marshall would become an even more prolific figure by becoming the first black Supreme Court Justice.

21 - Massachusetts: Phillis Wheatley

Phillis Wheatley was born in Senegal in 1753 and sent overseas to Boston, Massachusetts where she would become a slave. While enslaved, Wheatley was constantly exposed to books. In 1773, she became the second woman and the first black person to have their poetry published.

22 - Michigan: Carole Anne-Marie Gist

Born in Detroit, Michigan in 1969, Carole Anne-Marie Gist made history when she became the first black Miss USA in 1990.

23 - Minnesota: Toni Stone

Born in 1921 in St. Paul, Minnesota, Toni Stone became the first woman to play in a professional men’s baseball league when she joined the San Francisco Sea Lions of the West Coast Negro Baseball Leagues in 1953. Stone endured endless acts of racial and gender-based discrimination.

24 - Mississippi: Fannie Lou Hamer

Born in 1917 in Montgomery County, Mississippi, Fannie Lou Hamer was a relentless civil rights advocate. Hamer endured arrests, assault and being shot at by racists upset by Hamer’s activism. Hamer made a notable speech at the 1964 Democratic National Convention on being black in America. She helped black citizens register to vote and created organizations to service minority families.

25 - Missouri: Maya Angelou

Born in 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri, Maya Angelou is a renowned, poet, author and civil rights activist. Her works such as “Still I Rise” and “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings” have spanned generations. When close friend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated on her birthday, Angelou went years without celebrating her April 4th birthday.

26 - Montana: Geraldine Travis

Born in 1931 in Albany, Georgia, Geraldine Travis became the first black person elected to be elected to Montana’s State Legislature in 1974. She worked to advance civil rights both in and outside of government.

27 - Nebraska: Malcolm X

Born Malcolm Little in 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska, Malcolm X was a fearless civil rights icon and a spokesman for the Nation of Islam. The X that replaced his last name was intended to serve as representation of the loss of his African identity. X was responsible for the popularity of the “any means necessary” philosophy which emphasizes going to any length to protect your rights.

28 - Nevada: Henry W. Lockerman

Henry W. Lockerman was a Porter of the Nevada State Senate in 1889. He was a civil war veteran who served in the 79th U.S.C.I. at Fort Scott, Kansas which was the first colored infantry unit in Kansas.

29 - New Hampshire: Myrna Adams

Myrna Adams made history at the University of New Hampshire by becoming the school’s first administrator in 1969 where she aided black students through financial aid and advisement.

30 - New Jersey: David Dinkins

Born in 1927 in Trenton, New Jersey, Howard University alumnus David Dinkins became the first black mayor of New York City in 1989 beating opponent Rudy Giuliani and incumbent Ed Koch. Dinkins went on to teach at Columbia University and has a building named after him in Manhattan.

31 - New Mexico: Sheryl Williams Stapleton

Born in 1958 in Saint Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Sheryl Williams Stapleton became the first black woman to serve as New Mexico Legislature’s floor leader in January 2017. She’s served as a State House representative for New Mexico’s 19th district in 1994.

32 - New York: James Baldwin

Born in Harlem in 1924, author James Baldwin’s prolific works like “Go Tell It On The Mountain” and “Giovanni’s Room” have become literary classics.

33 - North Carolina: Moms Mabley

Born in 1894 in Brevard, North Carolina, Moms Mabley’s success in the male-dominated world of comedy was rare. She was the first female comedian to perform at the Apollo theater and appeared in numerous movies. Her life would become the subject of an off-Broadway play as well as a documentary directed by Whoopi Goldberg.

34 - North Dakota: Rosemary Sauvageau

In 2012, Rosemary Sauvageau became the first black Miss North Dakota. Following two second place position in 2010 and 2011 pageants, Sauvageau, 24, persevered and resultantly, made history.

35 - Ohio: Dorothy Dandridge

Born in 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio, Dorothy Dandridge was an actress, singer and beauty icon. After starring in the 1954 film “Carmen Jones,” Dandridge became the first black woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for best actress.

36 - Oklahoma: Ralph Ellison

Born in 1914 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, novelist Ralph Ellison wrote the classic 1953 National Book Award winner in fiction “Invisible Man.” Ellison was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1969.

37 - Oregon: Geraldine Avery

Geraldine Avery was the first black person to become a police matron in Oregon in 1954.

38 - Pennsylvania: Bayard Rustin

Born in 1912 in West Chester, Pennsylvania, the leader of numerous civil rights movements, Bayard Rustin was a much lesser-known civil rights organizer. Rustin, who was also openly gay, worked alongside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and played a significant role in King’s commitment to non-violence.

39 - Rhode Island: Ruth Simmons

Although from Texas, Ruth Simmons, born in 1945, made history in Providence, Rhode Island when she became the first black person to serve as president of Brown University in 2001. The presidency also made her the first black person to run an Ivy league University.

40 - South Carolina: Althea Gibson

After becoming the first black female professional tennis player, Althea Gibson, born in 1927 in Silver, South Carolina, would go on to become the first black person to hold a number of titles in the sport. She was the first black person to win Wimbledon and the French and U.S. Open.

41 - Tennessee: DeFord Bailey

Born in 1899 in Smith County, Tennessee, DeFord Bailey was one of country music’s first black notable musicians. His harmonica skills landed him a permanent gig on a radio station until he eventually began recording and performing despite constantly facing racial discrimination.

42 - South Dakota: Oscar Micheaux

Although born in Illinois in 1884, Oscar Micheaux was living in South Dakota when he wrote the book that would serve as the basis for the first full-length feature film by a black filmmaker. Micheaux, who produced both silent and speaking films that appealed to black audiences, is considered the first black successful film director.

43 - Texas: Barbara Jordan

Born in 1936, in Houston, Texas, Barbara Jordan was the first black person and first woman to represent Texas in the U.S. Congress when she became a House Representative in 1973. Additionally, Jordan made a memorable opening speech at Richard Nixon’s impeachment just one year later. Although never very open about her sexuality, Jordan was in a domestic relationship with a woman for over two decades.

44 - Utah: Abner Leonard Howell

Abner Leonard Howell was born in 1877 in Louisiana but raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. Howell was a gifted collegiate football player who helped lead University of Michigan’s Wolverines team to success although he didn’t receive public acknowledgement for doing so.

45 - Vermont: Alexander Twilight

Born in 1917 in Newport News, Virginia, 13 time Grammy-winning jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald is known as “The First Lady of Song.” Fitzgerald left an abusive home at 15 years old and was forced to overcome the Depression by herself. Nonetheless, she had a remarkable career in music and went on to win the National Medal Of Arts by Ronald Reagan in 1987.

47 - Washington: Yolanda Gail Devers

Born in 1966 in Seattle, Washington, track and field athlete Yolanda Gail Devers was an avid runner during her childhood. But despite having to undergo a strenuous treatment program and facing the possibility of having her feet amputated after being diagnosed with Graves disease in 1990, Devers persevered. She went on to receive gold medals in the 1992 and 1996 Olympics’ track and field segments.

48 - West Virginia: Katherine G. Johnson

Born in 1918 in White Sulfur Springs, West Virginia, Katherine G. Johnson is just one-third of the trio of black women whose work with NASA in the 1950s inspired the movie “Hidden Figures.” Her stellar mathematical abilities would eventually play a crucial role in the first successful space exploration by an American. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015 by Barack Obama.

49 - Wisconsin: Al Jarreau

Born Alwin Lopez Jarreau in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1940, the actor and singer was the first vocalist to earn three Grammys in three different categories. Jarreau earned three of his six Grammys in pop, jazz and R&B.

50 - Wyoming: Vernon Baker

Born in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1919, Vernon Baker was the only living black WWII veteran to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his military service. He received the award in January 1997 from then-President Bill Clinton.

la familia montgomery siempre fue una familia unida y también querida entre la comunidad. un padre que siempre se sacrificio por sus nueve hijos y su única hija, una familia que siempre se le enseñó el valor de trabajar duro y también el hecho de estar siempre juntos a pesar de todo, un padre que a pesar de que ser uno de los hombres más ricos de texas le enseñó a todos el valor de dinero, simplemente los montgomery eran la familia perfecta ante todos.

aunque todo empezó a cambiar cuando el gran incendio en la haciendo principal cambió a la familia; su madre murió consumida por las llamas, dos de sus hermanos menores fallecieron por los gases del lugar, otro hermano falleció debido a un paro al corazón y su única hermana fue atrapada por las llamas de la granja. desde ese momento la familia se separo y también su padre empezó a cambiar, tratando mal a los que estaban quedando con él y especialmente a sus hijos, además de estar perdiendo todo el dinero que algún tuvo en el banco.

los hermanos decidieron alejarse de su padre un año después de todo, muchos se fueron juntos y otros se fueron solos en las noches mientras no serían juzgados por nadie. los montgomery simplemente se miraron por última vez y no se volvieron a ver nunca más las caras después de aquel hecho, al final de cuenta habían perdido a su madre y especialmente a esa familia unida que tanto querían cuando eran más jóvenes.

han pasado más de quince años desde que se vieron por última vez, pero se han tenido que reunir de nuevo en aquel rancho donde fueron criados, entre animales y también las enseñanzas de estar siempre unidos, pero ahora todo es diferente muchos no se hablan y algunos tienen roces debido a las situaciones en como se fueron, además de volver al lugar donde su padre falleció solo y empezaron a perder todo no es algo que quieran, ahora los hermanos tendrán que pasar de nuevo juntos donde tendrán que ver la herencia y también restaurar esa hermandad que alguna vez tuvieron.
