dean has spent his whole life waiting for the love that he continually, habitually, involuntarily extends to be truly requited; waiting for his love to be truly returned to its fullest extent. it hasn't happened, he knows this. he'll never admit it.

first, he waited on john, the man he devoted his whole life to from the tender age of four. his drill sergeant, his field commander, his father. dean spent years waiting for him, this man who is so many different things to him, to notice his wanton devotion.

then, as he grew older, dean waited on Sam. his Sammy, his baby (-brother, his baby brother, because Sam isn't his baby, not really, though the admission leaves a bitter taste in his mouth). his Sam. his to cherish, his to love and hold and care for. dean waits and waits for Sam to grow up and return this overwhelming affection that has consumed him whole.

he thinks it might actually be happening for a while. during those blissful years where nothing pleases Sam more than hanging out with his big brother, no matter what they end up doing. as long as they're together, Sam's happy. dean didn't know life could be like this- happy, content. not constantly chasing after something he can't define.

but then dean drops out of school to focus on hunting, at their dad's behest (will you notice me now, daddy? please, daddy, please-). he drops out, and Sam - inexplicably, without reason or cause (not any that dean can see, anyway) - he drifts away. he starts fights with dean & john constantly now; yelling or throwing fists or fuming in silent mutiny more often than not, these days. the resulting disapproval from john, not just of Sam but also of dean, is crushing. despite dean's own bewilderment, john blames him for Sam's misbehavior. says that he should have better control of his little brother (his brother-son, his best friend, his confidant, his lov-), nevermind that Sam is john's son, too.

the two most important - the two only - people in his life, at odds with each other, and subsequently at odds with him. upset, with him. their affection, love, devotion, care- all gone; it was his fault, somehow. 

dean didn't think it was possible to physically feel your heart break into pieces. he was wrong.

the night Sammy leaves for stanford, dean swears he feels his heart disintegrate entirely. it turns to ash inside his ribs with a burning ache that leaves him clutching with both hands at the spot it used to reside in, vomiting the remnants into the grass on the side of the road after Sam's bus pulls away. it leaves a niche in his chest where a heart would fit perfectly

and he thinks if he could just maneuver one (anyone's- john's- Sam's) into place---

Yeah, not happening.

First of all, he can't get anyone pregnant, since he doesn't even have a dick.

And since he's a romance repulsed aroallo, he's definitely not starting a family with anyone, so there's no cute "I got pregnant, we can raise it together!" thing.

Hell, he's not even the type to get into a relationship. Friends with benefits? Absolutely. But he'd rather die than have someone call him their boyfriend outside of jokes and teasing.

Plus, he hates children. There's literally nothing about this situation that would be a positive for him.

He's not getting into that situation, ever.

Sometimes you need to read something twice to get it. You might need to watch a movie three times to understand it. You might have to have that album on repeat for a week until the lyrics make any sense. You're allowed to engage with it and can keep engaging with it until it means something to you. People will see a painting at a museum and laugh about not getting what the big deal is but like you can come back, you can see it at another time, and maybe that next time it'll be different for you. I'm of the belief the "media literacy crisis" would solve itself if more people just sat down and did it again. Watched, read, played, listened, etc like I don't think people are getting more ignorant necessarily I just think we're not glorifying personally replaying things nearly as much as we should be.

How very depressing that Neil Gaiman had trended not even a tiny bit for demonstrating what a fucking horrific person he is.

As a reminder, he's suing Caroline Wallner, one of his accusers, for breaking her NDA. Not for libel. He's saying she shouldn't have told anyone about it, not that she lied.

He doesn't need the money. He's risking the Streisand effect. He is punishing Caroline, he's trying to intimidate other victims who have signed NDAs to scare them into continued silence.

He is no friend to women, to the LGBTQIA+ community, to anyone quite frankly unless he thinks they are of value to him.

Share the story. Put it on Facebook and bluesky and whatever else you're on. Make it clear what a horrifying person he is. Tell your friends. He's paying Edendale a fortune to try and cover this up. Make this hard for him. Make it cost him money.
