honestly it is a crime that the trc/tdt fandom has not all gotten into strange the dreamer 😤 a CRIME!

possibly i will reread them this year and post my favorite quotes as i go along. possibly i will make a whole photoset, or aesthetic graphics! possibly i will drag everyone into reading the books along with me, by claw and tooth and nail. because they’re some of my absolute favorites and it is a shame that they’re not more popular.

because of you and that other anon, i had to reread all my trc books again, and i'll admit it, i still cried when i got to fai's past. it's pretty hard to get me weepy and i knew it was coming cause this is the third time i've read the series, but it still somehow gets me every single time, man. it's definitely one of the top five saddest backstories for a character i seen or read to date, and man do i consume a lot of media.

My blog is turning into a literary circle about trc and i could not be happier, I had no idea that there was someone else besides the other anon who was following my liveblogging and enjoying it ^v^

I am the exact opposite, pretty much can’t cry for myself, but oh boy, I am so easy to make cry when reading or watching anything, doesn’t matter how many times I’ve already seen. And god, fai’s past, I’m crushed just thinking about it, I think the parts that really got to me was when Yuui was like asking “is it a sin just to live?”, when Fei Wong made him think that he wished for his brother’s death, AND JUST THE EXPRESSION ON PRESENT DAY FAI, LIKE OH MY GOD, HE LOOKS LIKE HIS HEART GOT RIPPED OUT, LIKE HIS ENTIRE WORLD GOT CRUSHED, JESUS WAS THAT THE EXPRESSION THAT’S BEEN HIDING BEHIND HIS SMILE THE ENTIRE TIME, LIKE YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE ALL THE PAIN AND DESPAIR AND GUILT AND AGONY HE’S BEEN THROUGH AND HOW HELPLESS HE FEELS

And agreed! about how his past is like the top five most tragic backstories. I can think of very few others that can rival it.

Speaking of helpless, I wanna meta a bit? Not even meta, just a comment. Okay so I think Kurogane’s and Fai’s past are similar in the sense that for both of them, a major theme was helplessness, though expressed differently.

In Kurogane’s case, he literally spends his entire childhood looking up to his dad and wanting nothing more than to be like him and to be able to protect his family and eventually Suwa. And then his mom gets progressively sicker and sicker, and there’s nothing he can do about it? And it makes him feel awful, useless, helpless, because the thing about Kurogane is that he cares and loves so much and so fiercely, and the only thing he wanted was to protect his family, but you can’t fight off a sickness for a loved one. And then because he left his mom’s side, she got run through with a sword and died. His father, the one he looked up to as the strongest, dies too. And Kurogane couldn’t do anything, because he was too young, he was too slow, because he wasn’t strong enough, everything he loved died before his very eyes and he couldn’t do anything about it.

(Basically what I’m saying is if you wanted to break Kuro, just put him in a situation where he literally can’t do anything to save or protect the ones he loves and have him watch them be killed or tortured.)

Fai’s helplessness is different? Because he had power, he was going to have a lot of power, but pretty much every single last person in his life, up to this dimension field-trip, had done their very best to trap him and emotionally crush him, devastate him, and then emotionally blackmail him into doing what they wanted him to do, just slowly stripping away his sense of agency until he felt like he had no choice but to do what they dictated, that his life had no true meaning, that he could only resign himself to his fate, that he brought bad luck to those around him, and he couldn’t do anything about any of it.

And I think at that point you can see the difference between the two characters, because Kurogane spits in the eye of fate and tells himself that he just needs to get stronger to no longer be helpless, and Fai can’t do that, not until Kurogane literally forces him to see it, that he can fight against fate and that they, their little family, would support him every step of the way.

(A point: though I think that Kuro being able to pick himself up is indicative of his character, I tend to think that it would likely be nearly impossible for Fai to do that too on his own, because what he went through was essentially emotional abuse with no support system besides Ashura who also wanted to use him and getting out of those situations and recovering is so unbelievably hard to do on your own. Personally, I think Fai’s guilt complex and self-loathing will take quite some time to get past (though he’s already doing so much better which ;;A;; im so happy for him). Also also! Headcanon: Kuro totally had PTSD after the decimation of Suwa.)

(Gosh, Kurogane’s past hurts me too, because I look at how he was and how he is now and there’s such a huge difference, like no wonder Syaoran didn’t recognize him at first.)

I couldn't decide who to gift what to, so y'all are getting joint gifts (yes that means more to come), I actually heard this song and thought of Gansey when I was in the middle of Blue Lily, Lily Blue, but I didn't say anything cause I wasn't sure if the vibes would match by the end of the series, and then I didn't say anything because I saw an opportunity to inflict emotional damage <3

Ooh interesting! I’ll go back and compare all the instances later, but for now this fits very well! Especially in the fight against the lions, where this kick was from. 

Which means this really IS a perfect practice for fighting Syaoran later.

thats...something i wasn’t expecting LOL!! but sure! i don’t really know how to rank them, so i’ll just give the ones that i thought were either really pretty or interesting to see.

trc’s yubin took a photo backstage that i thought was cute. she’s really pretty in it, and i’m a sucker for those classic mirror reflection pictures. i wish we could have seen other stuff going on in the background (c’mon, give us hints for the girl group unnie!!!), but it’s still a nice picture.

kt’s youngho posted a picture taken by someone else. it’s a nice headshot, i really like the background of it; the sky looks so nice! and he’s a model, right? or used to be? he’s got a few connections, doesn’t he-- because our own resident model from trc, yujin is the photocreditor! interesting friendship, i’m surprised. 

nova’s solji is someone i’m keeping an eye out for. she’s super pretty, and i genuinely think she was made for the stage. if not as an idol, as a performer or on broadway or theatre or something. she posted this cute celebratory photograph about the stage. and she hashtagged four hundred and fifty days! is that how long she’s been a trainee? it has to be, right? wow, and she got a cute little cake for it. 

sphere’s minhee also posted something during their time in jeju. she posted this relaxing photo, and like-- girl, i want to be her! the water looks soooo nice! she’s really pretty to, like-- she’s seriously made to be photographed. i should know, because i’m also made to be photographed, hehe!

finally, royal’s wonwoo posted a photoset playing around on the beach with fellow royal trainee mingyu. it’s actually...a really cute photoset. it seriously made me laugh. i always thought the two of them kinda...faded into the background (because they do, but they’re getting better), and honestly? i’ll try thinking of this cute little photo when i see them next. it at least makes me like them a lot more, that’s for sure. super cute~ (his instagram has a lot of mingyu content though...interesting).

I think Kurogane introduce Fye to DnD, It is canon that Kurogane is nerd and fan of mangas

he is definitely a giant nerd. in my dnd au, kurogane and fai actually play dnd on their own already! (this is random backstory stuff but) the two of them are roommates in uni and meet yuuko through a fantasy/sci-fi club and end up becoming friends. eventually yuuko becomes the DM for a campaign that kurogane, fai, syaoran, and sakura play (mokona is yuuko’s cat); it follows the trc plot, just as a dnd campaign so it’s funny instead of horribly tragic

kurogane played dnd since he was younger, w kendappa and souma and tomoyo. he learned about it from his parents since they had a campaign they’d play w their friends (kuro’s mom is the DM! also it’s how his parents met). he plays in yuuko’s tsubasa campaign bc she and fai are v annoying convincing, and also tomoyo asked him to play w her high school friends bc she thinks they’d get along and you need more friends kurogane

fai is fairly new to dnd bc he mostly played other tabletop games, but he decides to give it a try bc dnd magic is fun.  he just has horrible luck w groups and always ended up quitting games bc everybody is an asshole.  he decides to give yuuko’s tsubasa campaign a go bc he likes yuuko and the hours-long weekly opportunity to annoy kurogane.
