How to Choose the Right Tree Service in Edmonton for Your Yard
Tumblr media
When it comes to maintaining your property's landscape, one of the most critical elements to focus on is the health and appearance of your trees. Whether it's trimming overgrown branches, removing hazardous trees, or planting new ones, choosing the right Tree Service in Edmonton is essential to ensure your yard looks its best while promoting the health of your trees.
The process of selecting a reliable tree service requires a combination of research, knowledge, and an understanding of your yard’s needs. In this guide, we will walk you through the steps to choose the best tree service for your property while ensuring the safety and health of your trees.
Why You Need Professional Tree Services
Caring for your trees is not just about aesthetics; it's about safety, property value, and environmental benefits. A professional tree service in Edmonton will offer expertise in handling various tree-related tasks such as
Pruning and trimming
Regular pruning and trimming are essential to keeping trees healthy and attractive. Professional tree services ensure that dead, diseased, or overgrown branches are removed correctly, allowing for better air circulation, improved sunlight exposure, and growth management. Proper trimming also helps reduce the risk of falling branches, which can cause injury or property damage.
Tree removal
Dead, damaged, or diseased trees can pose significant safety hazards, especially during storms or high winds. Tree removal services assess and safely remove such trees from your property. This process prevents accidents, improves curb appeal, and frees up space for new landscaping or construction projects.
Stump grinding
Once a tree has been removed, leaving the stump can be both an eyesore and a hazard. Stump grinding is the solution to this problem. Tree service professionals use specialized equipment to grind the stump down below ground level, allowing for smooth lawn mowing and reducing the risk of pests or regrowth. This leaves your landscape clean and aesthetically pleasing.
Tree planting
Tree planting adds natural beauty, shade, and environmental benefits to your yard. Professional tree services can help you choose the right species for your location, ensuring it thrives in the Edmonton climate. Proper planting techniques, along with ongoing care and maintenance, will ensure that your new trees grow strong and healthy, adding value and sustainability to enhance your yard
Choosing the right tree care service can also help maintain your trees' longevity while preventing potential issues such as diseases, pests, and structural damage to your property.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Tree Service in Edmonton
Qualifications and Certifications
Before hiring a tree service, ensure they have certified arborists on staff. Arborists are trained professionals who understand the science of tree care. They can assess your trees’ health and provide appropriate services to maintain or improve them.
Look for companies that are accredited by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) or similar organizations. Certification indicates that the service provider adheres to industry standards and has undergone extensive training in tree care.
Range of Services Offered
Not all tree service companies offer the same services. Some specialize in tree removal, while others may focus on pruning, trimming, or emergency storm damage services. It’s essential to choose a company that offers a comprehensive range of services to meet all your tree care needs.
Pruning and trimming: Essential for maintaining tree health and appearance.
Lawn care Edmonton services: Companies that offer both lawn care and tree services ensure that your entire landscape is cared for.
Tree planting and transplanting: Adding trees to your property can boost curb appeal and provide environmental benefits.
Stump grinding: After tree removal, stump grinding eliminates unsightly stumps.
Emergency services: For storm-damaged or hazardous trees that require immediate attention.
Insurance and Liability
Tree care can be dangerous work, especially when it involves tall trees or removing large branches. It's crucial to ensure the company you hire has the proper insurance. They should carry both liability insurance and worker’s compensation insurance. Liability insurance protects your property in case of damage, while worker’s compensation covers the workers in case of injuries on your property.
Always ask for proof of insurance before signing a contract to avoid any potential legal or financial liabilities.
Reputation and Reviews
Before hiring any tree service for your property, it’s essential to check the company’s reputation. Online reviews, testimonials, and word-of-mouth recommendations can provide valuable insights into the quality of services offered by a tree company. Websites like Google My Business, Yelp, and Better Business Bureau (BBB) can be useful resources to gauge customer satisfaction.
Additionally, ask the company for references and check whether they have a portfolio of past work. A reputable tree service should be able to provide evidence of their previous projects and success stories.
Pricing and Estimates
Price should never be the sole deciding factor, but it’s important to get multiple quotes to understand the market rate for tree service in Edmonton. Be wary of services that offer extremely low prices, as this could indicate poor quality or a lack of insurance.
Request an itemized estimate from each company you’re considering. This way, you can compare prices and understand what services are included in the cost. Reputable tree care services will provide clear, transparent pricing without hidden fees.
Safety Measures and Equipment
Tree care is a physically demanding and potentially dangerous job. It’s vital to ensure that the tree service company you choose prioritizes safety. They should follow industry safety standards and use proper equipment, including harnesses, helmets, and chainsaws with safety features.
Ask the company about their safety protocols, and ensure they comply with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations in Alberta.
youtube
Contract and Written Agreement
Before any work begins, ensure that you have a detailed contract outlining the scope of work, pricing, timeline, and any guarantees or warranties. A written agreement protects both parties and ensures that there is no confusion about the services to be rendered.
Make sure the contract includes
Detailed description of the services to be performed, It’s important that this section leaves no ambiguity about what the tree service company is responsible for. This includes details about how the work will be carried out, the specific areas of your property that will be affected, and the equipment that will be used.
Timelines Every contract should specify the expected start and completion dates of the project. This ensures that you know when the work will be done and helps avoid potential delays. If the tree service company needs additional time due to unforeseen circumstances
Guarantees A good tree service contract should offer guarantees or warranties for the work performed. This section ensures that the company stands behind its services and will correct any issues, such as improper tree trimming or incomplete removal, without additional charges.
Environmental Practices
Consider choosing a company that prioritizes environmentally friendly practices. A reputable tree service in Edmonton should focus on sustainability and have a policy for recycling tree waste (such as using wood chips for mulch or compost).
If they are removing a tree, ask if they offer tree planting services to offset the environmental impact.
Benefits of Professional Lawn Care and Tree Services in Edmonton
Beyond tree care, many companies like Green Drop Lawns offer additional services such as lawn care in Edmonton. A well-maintained lawn complements your trees and enhances your overall landscape. Professional lawn care services include
Mowing and edging
A neat and tidy lawn is essential for maintaining the beauty of your property. Professional lawn care services in Edmonton provide expert mowing and edging to ensure your lawn has a sharp, clean finish. Consistent mowing keeps your grass at the optimal height, while precise edging defines the boundaries between your lawn, walkways, and garden beds. This attention to detail creates a polished, manicured look that enhances the overall curb appeal of your landscape.
Fertilization and weed control
Keeping your lawn lush and green requires proper fertilization and weed control. Lawn care professionals know the ideal nutrient mix to use throughout the growing seasons to stimulate robust grass growth. They apply fertilizers that nourish the soil, ensuring your lawn receives the essential nutrients it needs. In addition, targeted weed control treatments eliminate invasive weeds that compete with your grass for water and nutrients, giving you a healthy, vibrant lawn free from unsightly weeds.
Aeration and overseeding
Over time, soil can become compacted, restricting water, oxygen, and nutrient flow to the grassroots. Aeration helps solve this problem by creating small holes in the soil, allowing it to breathe and absorb nutrients more efficiently. Overseeding, combined with aeration, introduces new grass seeds to fill in bare spots and thicken the turf. These two practices are crucial for maintaining a healthy lawn, preventing soil compaction, and encouraging the growth of fresh, resilient grass.
Combining tree care with professional lawn services ensures that your entire yard remains healthy and vibrant throughout the year.

FAQs about Tree Service in Edmonton
How often should I prune my trees?
It’s generally recommended to prune trees every 3-5 years, depending on the tree species and its health. Regular pruning helps maintain the tree's shape, removes dead or diseased branches, and promotes healthy growth.
When is the best time to remove a tree?
The best time to remove a tree is during the late winter or early spring, before the growing season starts. This is when the tree is dormant, making it easier and safer to remove. However, hazardous trees should be removed immediately to prevent property damage or injury.
Can I perform tree care myself?
While minor tree care tasks like watering and mulching can be done by homeowners, larger jobs like pruning, tree removal, and stump grinding should be left to professionals. Attempting to do these tasks yourself can be dangerous and may result in property damage or personal injury.
What should I do if my tree has pests or diseases?
If you suspect your tree is infested with pests or suffering from a disease, it’s important to contact a certified arborist for an evaluation. They can diagnose the problem and recommend treatment options, which may include pruning, insecticide application, or in extreme cases, tree removal.
What is the cost of professional tree services?
The cost of tree services varies depending on the type of service, the size of the tree, and the complexity of the job. It’s best to get multiple estimates from local tree service company to find a fair price.
Conclusion
Choosing the right tree service in Edmonton is crucial for maintaining the health, safety, and appearance of your yard. By considering factors such as qualifications, services offered, insurance, reputation, and pricing, you can find the perfect partner to care for your trees and lawn. Green Drop Lawns offers a range of professional services tailored to meet your yard's needs, ensuring your landscape remains healthy and beautiful year-round.

My MattDrai Fic Recs, in honor of the upcoming MattDrai SCF
One-Shots:
what does daylight look like
By notthequiettype
" "Matthew," Draisaitl says, and shifts on to his elbow so he can look up at Matthew. "Don't-- please don't say this was nothing to you."
There's an expression on Draisaitl's face that Matthew's never seen before, a carved wrinkle between his brows, the corners of his mouth turned down. He looks sad, worried, and Matthew's struck by how much he doesn't look like a stranger, a guy across the ice, a target for Matthew's agitation. Matthew feels an almost tilting sense of vertigo for a second. "It wasn't nothing." "
As close to fluff as I can stomach, but that extra bit of sweetness makes this one so enjoyable to read and re-read. This is a "people in the NHL are gay and the world is fine with it" fic where the biggest obstacle to their relationship is playing for divisional rivals in the same Province. However, this suspension of disbelief is rarely taken too far, or done at the expense of having Matthew and Leon feel like real, layered people. Because of this, the story's earnestness feels earned, rather than saccharine.
(come on, come on, come on) get through it
By anonymous
"Matthew really doesn’t know where Leon’s head is at, on the rare occasion that he pulls stuff like that. He wants Matthew to himself; he doesn’t care if Matthew fucks other people. He wants Matthew to fuck other people so he can want Matthew to himself."
This story does not get the love it deserves. Who are you, anonymous, so I can give you the flowers that you so deeply deserve? This fic only receiving 208 kudos on AO3 is one of the greatest injustices of our time. If I had to guess, I'd say it has something to do with the angsty nature and (spoiler!) ambiguous-but-seemingly-not-optimistic ending. But the angst is worth it, friends! It's so incredibly well-written that by the end, you're left with so many lingering emotions that you just have to re-read it to process it further. The prose - particularly in the sex scenes, which carry hefty emotional weight because of the fuck-buddies-with-baggage nature of Matthew and Leon's relationship - is phenomenal, and would put most published hockey Booktok writers to shame. More people need to read this fic.
Edmonton 10
By Helenish
" “Well?” Leon said coolly. Leon wasn’t just an Edmonton 10, Matthew reminded himself, which was really a 6 but it was dark and you were horny, but an actual anywhere in the world smokeshow. All he had to do was shut up and play along.
“Okay,” he said. Leon’s smile turned smug. Great dick, Matthew chanted to himself in his head, world-class dick, really, big and uncut, a little curved to the left, from a guy who was freshly showered and smelled like pine trees, who’d like it too much and get up in his head about it after—
“Thought so,” Leon said, sounding almost bored. Matthew dutifully pictured his entire body filling up with cool, purple liquid, because the shrink had said they could pick any color they wanted, but it didn’t stop him from leaning forward and looping one hand around the back of Leon’s neck to draw him closer. Leon let him, his smile starting to falter, and Matthew slipped his hand up to cradle the back of Leon’s head and kissed him, an easy, tender brush of his lips. He pulled back enough to look into Leon’s eyes, holding his gaze. Leon blinked. Matthew smiled."
If I had to recommend one MattDrai fic to a new reader, it would be this one. It's just perfect. It's funny, it's sexy, it's grounded, it's surprisingly emotional, but above all else it's so, so, so well-written. All of the things that, in my mind, exemplify what makes MattDrai fanfiction so great.
(mild spoiler!) Without giving too much away, the 💔 part at the end made me gasp the first time I read it because of how well it hit the bulls-eye for me as a character beat and emotional climax. Impeccable storytelling.
Multi-Chapter:
let me look at you by isozyme
"Leon feels awkward and unsettled until they get home and he has Matthew naked in his bed, where he’s able to put his hand around Matthew’s ankle and let out the air that’s been stuck in the bottom of his lungs. Matthew looks awful — pale, battered, and end-of-season skinny. He’s scruffy and still has acne in his beard at almost thirty years old and Leon has no idea why he wants to fuck this guy so bad. And worse — wants to kiss him and protect him from the shitty parts of his family and show off to Connor how hot it is when they're in bed together."
This one is McMattDrai (Tkachuk/Draisaitl/McDavid) in case that's a dealbreaker for anyone. It shouldn't be, though! Because this story is incredible, and I waited eagerly for each new chapter to be published when it was put on AO3 last summer. Funny, blunt, unexpected, raunchy, tender at times, and a bit kinky. This story never failed to surprise me by going exactly where I hoped it would go one moment then veering hard right in another direction the next. You're not going to find a lot of 10 chapter fics this rich, descriptive, committed, and unique throughout.
head above water by yourblues
"He gives Matthew a cocky little smirk about it, like it’s supposed to be impressive that he didn’t need instructions to find them. Awful, Matthew thinks. He’s awful, and yet all Matthew wants is to get his hands or his mouth or literally anything on him. There’s been something hooked behind his breastbone all week, pulling him toward this with a single-mindedness that Matthew usually only feels with hockey. He doesn’t think he’ll be able to think straight until they’re done here."
This whole work is great, but for me the story reaches untouchable heights in the 5th chapter that very few other fics have ever been able to reach for me. I find myself re-reading it as soon as I'm done every time. Take my word for it, even if you only read the 5th chapter (read the whole thing though, because the build-up is worth the payoff, trust me).

oc kiss week 2025 @ockissweek day four - reunion
this story takes place in the world of the spider prince trilogy, about twenty-three years before the start of chaos and the spider prince!
It’s been a long, long winter. Alicia Wilshire turns twenty-five in the coldest January Fairy Hill has on record, celebrating with only her parents and her grandparents. They buy her a new goat as a present, which makes Paul Karpinski and Jenelle Mayhorne—the only friends she still has from high school—laugh and call her a workaholic. She’s thrilled by the gift, even if technically it’s only a promise of a new goat in the spring. Alicia looks forward to the work, the care, the milk and cheese.
Paul says, “It’s like my parents getting me an apple tree for Christmas.”
“No,” Jenelle replies, grinning, “it’s like my parents giving me a hunk of iron.”
“You’re both horrible,” Alicia informs them. “I’m going to name my goat after you. Both of you.”
Paul snorts. Jenelle flips her off. Alicia changes the subject to asking about Jenelle’s new baby girl, Marissa, and Paul’s new girlfriend, Chinara, and pointedly does not allow them to ask about her relationship status or family plans. Paul wouldn’t approve and Jenelle would make horrible jokes about protection and Alicia simply does not want to deal with either of them.
Alicia is fairly certain she’s a lesbian, but it’s not as though there are very many places to explore that in Fairy Hill, Alberta. Maybe if she went to Calgary or Edmonton or further, across to B.C. or down into the States, but she doesn’t have the time or the inclination for that. It’s probably why she was so drawn to the forest in the first place; the Fair Folk don’t have the same hang-ups about sexuality and gender and whatever else.
And it’s there that she met Fen.
Fen, who Alicia’s great-great-whatever-grandfather wrote about in his journals, when he was a fresh-faced twenty-something founding a town on the border of a fae forest. Fen, who was seemingly unchanged from the sketches he’d made, the ones Alicia had memorised.
Fen had recognised her by her sword, a beautiful golden thing that her grandfather had given her. “Mary-Jo never wanted me to give it to your mother,” he said. “Said it wasn’t appropriate for girls. But it’s no use to an in-law, and I’ve only a few years left.” He’d died the next spring, and Alicia had taken to teaching herself swordplay. She’s decent, but when Fen had recognised her, she had immediately critiqued her form.
“That sword wasn’t meant to become an heirloom,” she’d added, after only hours of pointers.
Alicia’s grip on the hilt had tightened. “What was it meant for?”
“My knight,” Fen answered, and then tilted her head with an assessing smile. “And maybe for you.”
Their relationship had developed slowly through the spring and summer months, only solidifying when the first dusting of September snow had already graced the ground. Fen’s hair is short and sharp as pine needles, and Alicia grows used to the feeling as she cradles the faerie’s head when they trade heady kisses. She is certain this is not the outcome her grandfather imagined, but she wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I hibernate,” Fen had told her, days before the Autumn Equinox. “From the first day of Autumn to the first day of Spring. I spent only six months of the year in the waking world. You should not wait for me.”
Alicia watched her turn into a tree. She waited anyway, first fuming at being told what to do and then anxious that Fen wouldn’t appreciate the effort.
So, a long winter. She tries to fill her days with other things. Sometimes, she almost succeeds.
As they inch closer to the Spring Equinox, she worries that Fen was simply trying to let her down gently. She worries about what to say and how to say it. She worries that Fen is a fickle faerie and that she’s only going to get hurt.
None of this stops her from making her way to the evergreen tree deep in the wood that Fen had transformed into. Alicia is not a woman to let her anxieties keep her down, and she suspects that Fen likes that about her. Paul would call her foolish and idiotic, if he knew where she was going, and Jenelle would probably call her romantic as long as she avoided pronouns in her explanation, but Alicia thinks of herself as determined. And a lesbian. And maybe after this is sorted, however it ends up sorted, she should talk to Jenelle about that, since she does believe that her friend loves her and would try to understand.
The forest in the dark is especially dangerous. Alicia wears bells and daisy-chains and a string of red berries, and carries her sword in one hand like a threat. No one bothers her, though she suspects that has more to do with an Equinox revel somewhere deep in Fairyland than anything in particular that she’s done. Straying this close to Fairyland on an Equinox night probably is foolish and idiotic, but she thinks it’s romantic too.
She only hopes Fen agrees.
The transformation from tree back to faerie is so swift it might as well happen between blinks. Alicia looks around, startled by this abruptness. Fen looks at her, perhaps startled by her presence.
“I told you not to wait,” she says, but it’s not an admonishment.
“I waited,” Alicia replies.
Fen is taller than Alicia by a significant margin, but when they sit on the forest floor, it’s less noticeable. They should talk, probably, but Fen is smiling and Alicia is too encouraged by that to do anything by act. She lurches forward, a little awkwardly, and takes Fen’s face in her hands, and peppers every inch of it in playful kisses. Fen allows this, smiling with her eyes shut, smiling wider when Alicia places a lingering kiss on one of Fen’s eyelids.
“I told you not to wait,” she says again. “I am glad you did. Hello, love.”
Then she blindly captures Alicia’s lips and presses the final word into them.

♡Bio (written as a wolf)♡
I woke up in a clearing of wildflowers and tall green grass. I have no memories of how I got here or where my pack is. I stumbled onto a small creek and when I went to take a drink I saw a beautiful red wolf with piercing green eyes staring back at me. At first, I didn't know what it was until I tilted my head and it did the same. I stuck my tongue out and it copied. Everything I did it did the same. It's how I know I'm a wolf. When I stood tall on all fours I noticed I was huge. When I left that field and stumbled upon other wolves I noticed I was much bigger than they were. I tried to show I was no threat by showing my neck to them to see if I could join their pack but each time I tried I was attacked and run off. I had found many different packs along the way but either they chased me away or they ran off scared. I have no clue what's wrong with me and why nothing will accept me. I have been stopping to eat on small game and only eating large game when I see the other wolves leave. I have to be careful that they don't see me sneak up onto the deer or moose that they had killed. I've eaten just enough to give me strength to keep going. I sleep now at night in abandoned caves or crevices so I can keep my paws from freezing in the snow. I left Alberta a few months back and avoided as many trails as I could so I wouldn't get detected by the humans. None have been friendly towards me. A few had guns and had shot just above my head or just barely missed me. I had to swerve to miss the bullets. Others just froze and let me past them. I had passed over highways and roads a few times just to get away from some of the humans and a few other wolves. I had gone from Banff and down through the mountains avoiding the big cities like Edmonton, Red Deer, and Calgary. Those places were too busy with their busy roads, vehicles, machines, and humans to even think of going through there. So I had bypassed it all staying away from any towns or small hamlets along the way. I had stopped in a small town called Del Bonita border crossing. I didn't stay long. I went east until I found an opening away from humans. I had found a spot to stop and sleep in some trees just under a small cliff. I had stayed going both south and east staying hidden away from the highways and back roads. I stuck to the fields and trees stopping long enough to sleep and eat.
I was getting tired from all this running when I saw a sign that said I was entering Montana. It had taken me eight years to get to this point. I had stopped just after the sign and curled up to rest. I put my paws on my tail to warm them up a bit and closed my eyes. I just need a few minutes to rest before I continue on my way.

6 Essential Fall Lawn Care Steps for Edmonton Homeowners
Preparing your lawn for winter in Edmonton is crucial for a healthy, vibrant yard come spring. Here are six essential fall lawn care steps:
Rake Leaves: Regularly remove fallen leaves to prevent them from smothering your grass and causing mold.
Aerate the Soil: Aerate your lawn to alleviate soil compaction and improve root growth. This helps your grass absorb water and nutrients more effectively.
Apply Fall Fertilizer: Use a high-potassium fertilizer to strengthen your lawn’s roots and enhance winter resilience. This will ensure lush, green growth in the spring.
Mow Properly: Give your lawn a final mow before winter, keeping the grass at a shorter length to reduce the risk of snow mold.
Trim Trees and Shrubs: Prune dead or overgrown branches to prevent damage from winter storms and improve airflow.
Prepare Garden Beds: Clean out dead plants and mulch garden beds to protect the soil and prepare for spring planting.
Following these steps will help your lawn stay healthy and vibrant throughout the winter months!
