The Tuareg people

They are a large Berber ethnic confederation. They principally inhabit the Sahara in a vast area stretching from far southwestern Libya to southern Algeria, Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso. Traditionally nomadic pastoralists, small groups of Tuareg are also found in northern Nigeria.

Who Is Droupadi Murmu?

No tribal person has occupied the post of the President of India in the history of India. Droupadi Murmu is a tribal leader from Odisha whose name was nominated for the 2022 Presidential Election.

Droupadi Murmu, if elected would become an inspiration for many youngsters. She will become an exemplar for young minds, especially young girls and women. If she wins the presidential election, she would become the first tribal president and second female president of India.

Droupadi Murmu

Droupadi Murmu was born on June 20, 1958, in Baidaposi village of Mayurbhanj district in Odisha. Her father and grandfather were the village headmen of the Panchayati Raj System.

Overcoming all the odds, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Arts from Ramadevi Women’s College in Bhubaneswar and also served as a junior assistant in the irrigation and power department on the Odisha government.

She has seen many tragedies and misfortune in her life with losing her husband Shyam Charan Murmu and two sons and a daughter.

The Odisha’s Daughter Droupadi Murmu suffered from losing her family and on, but still, she came up a long way,

She started as a teacher before entering state politics.

The political career of Droupadi Murmu started when she was elected as the counsellor of the Rairagnpur Nagar Panchayat in 1997. The daughter of Odisha was also the Minister of State with independent charge for Commerce and Transport from March 6, 2000, to August 6, 2002. She was also the in charge of Fisheries and Animal Resources Development from August 6, 2002, to May 16, 2004. Hailing from the tribal community, she raised to the top overcoming obstacles and gaining many firsts in her name.

It was in 2015 when Droupadi Murmu became the first Governor of Jharkhand to complete the five year term. She is also the first tribal woman from Odisha to become the Governor in an Indian state.
