Introducing Project Sekai: Colorful Stage - Hue Shift

What is Hue Shift?

Hue Shift is a project sekai unit swap AU, created with the following set of guidelines.

Every character must be in a different unit than the one they’re originally from.

Characters originally from the same unit cannot be in the same unit.

Characters can’t be in the same that their sibling was in, ie. no L/N Tsukasa or VBS Ena.

Every unit gets completely new virtual singers, they can be vocaloid, synthv, or utau. (note: I tried to limit myself to voice banks with japanese as one of their base languages)

This blog will contain information about the AU, as well as my thought processes while making it. This AU also contains some of my personal head cannons for characters, so please be mindful and respectful of that!

In addition to this blog, I am working on a series of fics posted on my AO3 account (link). I’ll post updates and announcements regarding those fics on this blog as well!

Hi!💓 I have a few questions, apologies if they are a lil vague, it's just something that has been on my mind lately as a fairly new fan:

1. Was it ever clear that Chinatsu is the next top? Was it the reason for Ari's transfer, or was it a need for ninbante in star and that's why Chinatsu became the next in moon?

2. Also, how did you predict back then that Coto will have a long run as top star? Based on what in particular?

3. Why did Tamaki became top star comparably so early?

4. And I know that lgbt+ culture is practically nonexistent in Japan, but i still wonder if any of the actress ever talked abt it or addressed it in any way? Has anything regarding lgbt happened around taka that you know of?

Hello! Not vague at all :)

It was NOT personally clear to me that Chinatsu was going to be top (usually these things are obvious, occasionally we get a surprise). I don't think it was the reason for Ari's transfer though; it's impossible to know for sure, but my guess is more because of Oda (they don't want her to wait for Ari to finish) and some need to balance Hoshi. With Chinatsu as an older top, she can stay for a shorter time (similar examples would be Sou Kazuho and Hokusho Kairi, also older tops who stayed for three Grand Theater shows) and Oda can become top sooner.

I had a feeling Coto would be a long top for a number of reasons... 1) she's extremely popular and puts a lot of butts in seats, 2) she has a reputation for being a "mini Yuzuki Reon," who also stayed for a really long time, 3) the Hoshigumi producer has a bit of a reputation for putting a lot of stock in high-powered top stars and somewhat neglecting the nurturing of his track, and 4) until Ari came over there was no clear successor, which made me think they were going to ride Coto until they figured it out.

I've only heard rumors about this... one that Miya Rurika didn't want to be top star, one that Manaki Reika was so popular they designed the troupe around her and the producers didn't like her and Miya/Kacha together as much as they liked her and Tamaki together... but again, there is no way to know for sure.

Firstly, LGBT+ culture is NOT practically nonexistent in Japan—not saying this to correct you, but it's an impression a lot of people get and it makes them sad! So I want to share the reality of it! LGBT+ activism is way less prevalent than in other cultures (and as a result, legal protections are definitely behind), but this is true of pretty much all types of activism (I had an interesting conversation about this with a group of Japanese climate activists). There is a rich LGBT+ nightlife scene, and over the years Japan has been fairly ahead of the curve when it comes to queerness in media and fan culture. There is, however, a very "we pretend we do not see it" energy despite the prevalence. That said, Takarazuka actresses are almost definitely forbidden from talking about this while active, and discouraged while retired (especially if they stay in entertainment). Even if they are not actively discouraged, because there is no culture around being open about it on a real and personal level, they certainly wouldn't out other people and likely wouldn't out themselves. There are OGs both in and out of entertainment who are not shy about living as their honest selves and you can pretty much tell, but it still doesn't tend to be something they openly talk about (Nanami Hiroki and Miya Rurika have discussed breaking gender norms in interviews, but have skirted around saying anything definitive about themselves). The one exception I can immediately think of is Misuzu Aki retired and blogged about moving to Europe with her female partner.

so!! hw stands for hollow ☆ wonderland!! its the name of my n25 and wxs unit swap :3 hollow ☆ wonderland is the nightcord-ified wxs side of it!!

^ here’s a post with a pretty basic summary for them!! though i’ve made some more progress since then so i have some more details about a theoretical main story if you wanna ask about that :)

if you don’t wanna read all that though, the tldr is that they do online music videos like kikuo’s songs such as welcome to the star inn, and so you became the moon, etc. tsukasa (hoshi) is the main lyricist, emu (koki) is the artist, nene (kurage) is the composer, and rui (tako) is the animator and eventual co lyricist!!

my main story ideas have definitely progressed since that post but they’re still not like. entirely concrete. i’m getting there!! it’s just been taking a but fjabjdha and but i do want to write a fic for them. i have a side one on the way rn actually, just waiting for a friend of mine to beta it :) but feel free to ask about what i have so far!!

the gist of it though is that similar to n25 they all have that desire to disappear and are kinda on their last hopes atm. and except for tsukasa, they’ve all given up theater. tsukasa gets to be the one to get them all to give it another chance, boom they start to branch out into being an online theater troupe and posting videos of their shows. they’re my beloved horribly sad clowns who love each other so much <3

Personality: Mimi is a kind, energetic and bubbly girl. She's very active and hardworking, often training by practicing her acrobatic skills. She also has a very playful side and loves to tease people she finds 'cute', though she can get easily just as flustered if she's teased back. Being the leader of her group, Mimi takes teamwork very seriously, and always strives to do what's best for everyone in her group, and to be the peacemaker if any problems arise; therefore, she acts a lot more serious when performing, but still just as outgoing and friendly.

Mimi struggles to show her more negative emotions, with the traumatic event she experienced as a child, making her hate the feeling of wanting to cry far more than a person normally would. When she accidentally falls from a great height, or hears ambulance sirens; she gets shaken up, as that was how she lost her parents.

Backstory: Mimi was born to a pair of circus performers, her parents being extremely skilled acrobats. Whenever her parents were performing, her grandparents would bring her so she could watch. Each time, she was blown away by how wonderful her parents, and the troupe as a whole, were. Never once, did that mess up on stage... but then that fatal day came. Faulty tightropes gave in under her parents' feet. They were balancing on the highest ones, which resulted in them plummeting from a great height, dying instantly from impact. Mimi witnessed the entire thing. It traumatized the then 10 year-old deeply, and for an entire year, the group did not do another performance...but Mimi didn't want the troupe to disband. She wanted to help keep her parents' dreams alive.... and so she asked her grandpa, former ringmaster of the troupe in his prime, if he could help teach her how to become an acrobat. Proud of her strong will, he brought the group back together and demanded they only not keep performing, but to help train Mimi, their future ringmaster.

Over several years, she would not only learn and perfect her acrobat skills, but also learn a mix of everything on the side, too. Her first true chance to shine would be at 15, putting on her biggest performance yet as she showed off her acrobatic and tightrope walking skills. Everyone was so amazed, that the show became a hit sensation. This would even catch the attention of Hope's Peak, who scouted her for the title of 'Ultimate Acrobat', which she happily accepted. She felt like she succeeded in not only keeping her parents' dreams alive, but also making them proud as they watch over her from above...

When forced to do it anyway, he stays with the acting troupe long enough to get out of the Fire Nation then flees, heading to a nearby Fire Colony known as Ganshen (the starting town for the campaign).
