thank u! his name is kasey. hes a low energy philanthropist to put it short! hes very keen on equality for everyone and on not treating minorities or ppl who are like disabled or homeless as less subhuman bc,, shockingly,,, Theyre Not. hes disabled n it makes it hard for him to really hit the pavement about it but he does whats in his means and listens if people want to talk. his horns are lil implants tbh bc he was born w one of those little almost-tails at the base of his spine and decided to roll w it lol

Illegal camping adventure: no man has the right to own mountains

We went and camped for like a week (I was only there two days but lots of other people were around - maybe 100 people total?) in a farmer’s sheep field up a hill in the Yorkshire moors just outside Hebden Bridge. It was a land occupation in order to protest gross mismanagement of the moorland.

The farmer is a tenant farmer who pays rent to a landlord, and the landlord owns 16,000 acres of moorland and all he does with it is grouse shooting. Which already, bad start, leave the poor grouse alone. But he also has a habit of setting all the heather on fire to flush the birds out. This is REALLY BAD for two reasons, a) there are peat bogs under the soil that stay alight and spread the heat and cause wildfires basically at random all over the moor and b) the less vegetation there is on the hills the more water runs off and down into the valley and it’s been causing so much flooding people have had to move house to villages further along the valley. More run off means less water is being held on top of the hills which in the May weather has meant that everything is sooo so dry and making wildfires even more of a risk.

The farmer himself was actually pretty on board with our protest, a few days interrupting his sheep short term doesn’t actually affect his profits long term. But the people in the village launched a counter-protest saying we were fucking up the farmers way of life. They were trying to raise money to compensate him since we “hadn’t bothered” (we asked him and he didn’t want our money) and in the end that money went to his wife’s charity.

So that’s WHY I was there, but also it was just incredibly incredibly beautiful countryside and I got up at about 3am and went all the way up the hill to the moor on top by myself and sat down to watch the sun rise over the mountains across the valley and it was SO beautiful I had some kind of spiritual experience, and a huge bird of prey came and landed really near me and one of her feathers fell towards me so I kept it.

In the evening there was a big marquee we all went and sat in, about 20 of us sat in a circle singing together and sharing songs and poems and stories. We weren’t allowed a campfire because of the peat in the moor. So we just had to put on like five coats and huddle together for warmth and honestly once you got singing you warmed right up. Lots of people complimented me on my singing and harmonica playing so that was rly nice too.

There was also a natural pool under a waterfall that we all swam in and it was very very cold but also rly nice and refreshing and when my friend came out I asked how they were and they said “ALIVE!” in a really reverent way. Also we ate a LOT of soup. Endless cans of carrot and coriander soup. And watermelon. We had two enormous watermelons that fed everyone on camp several times over.

i really like 豆浆, specifically from hong kong!

dont have one. i’m not really into the whole holidays thing like. christmas isnt really to my taste but i guess its nice to get together with the fam? um anzac day is pretty good though....get to make biscuits
