#tumblr vibes have been a mixed bag recently

I made great progress on those summery asks today – I only have a handful left to send. ✨

PEACH!!!! I just need to scream this somewhere LOL!! TAEKOOK REAL!!! ARGRGRGRGGRRHHHH Anyway, screaming aside, may I just point out how the "Jungkook might have been in Hawaii too" theories came about after Type 1 photos preview were dropped? I feel so proud and validated as a TKKR when some TKKRS pointed out how the "look" of some of Taehyung's photos is so relaxed and intimate. We noticed the look Tae usually has around Jungkook and how Jungkook captures him so the chatter of JK being there with him started. THEN, the Hello Kitty Plushie discussion era arrived, with us debating if it's the same or they both got 1. We were too careful with our theories even! Most settling on, they probably got 1 of each. BUT, the point is we still could identify that JK is somehow connected to Type 1!!

AND BOOM! SUNDAY HAPPENED!! Taehyung confirmed our suspicions that JK was there with him!!! ARRRRRGGGGHHHHHHRHHGHG *combusting* LOL! I'm just so proud of us TKKRs too for knowing them enough to flag that "hey, this Tae look usually comes out when JK is around or taking photos of him" but the photobook description was spending alone time, BUT that's his Jungkook looooook!! Then we go about our days wondering if we are just hallucinating LOL! BUT NOOOOO, I am just so happy for TKKRs coz we can identify the nuances that their solos most likely are blind on specially those who diminish their bond. They miss out on being able to see through another layer of their fave because they don't want to accept the other's existence and importance on their faves' lives. Imagine living through one of our theories getting confirmed????!!! Like OMG, I am on a high right now... I feel so happy for them and proud at the same time that we can "see" them. Not to make TKKRs important but imagine having people who can acknowledge a huge part of you despite having to hide it not out of choice but out of norms and expectations, yet people can still acknowledge that your hearts have so much love to share and your bond is as beautiful as you believe it to be. You are SEEN. Our community is a mixed bag, we will always have bad apples, but for those who are just observing and getting inspired by them with no hate in their hearts, I want you to know that I may not know TaeKook and how they feel but I just know they are happy to have you around. I also want to take this opportunity to thank @taekooktimeline Kayla, I feel like what she is doing is so so significant and will be an important piece of TaeKook history. Going thru the timeline with your own judgment and seeing the bigger picture always blow me away. Specially when most moments get confirmed years later. It feels so surreal how we feel quite lost in moment of time, then clarity comes when you least expect it. Anyway, I blabbered too much, I'm still on that TaeKook High. People may say we are too delusional and romanticize stuff, but look we tried to be rational and logical, most recent example is the plushie then here comes Taehyung essentially telling us "You're not delusional enough. We didn't just spend time together. Jungkook actually flew to see me when I told him I missed him." Like no TKKR blog here would even come up with the Jungkook flying to Hawaii just coz Taehyung missed him part. We are too careful with our thoughts HAHAHA maybe in TK fanfic side of tumblr but dammmn.. it's real!! Have a great year Peach, the ride will be rougher the next couple of weeks but I know once MS is over there will be more of us screaming and feeling like everything is so surreal LOL!

I think more than anything, even over very couple-y vibes, this feels special because it cements the bond we've known about and often been asked to defend.

This moment is not for the jkkrs. I don't even really care how they're dealing with it. Not my job to correct them or set them on a certain path.

BUT I must confess the fact that it's JK who travelled, that JK is shown being physically affectionate with his hand on Tae's neck so protectively when Tae isn't touching him at all... That did give me extra levels of joy because it torpedoes the (offensive) idea that JK is bothered by Tae's one sided affections. No, sorry and excuse me but Tae isn't a weirdo desperate for JK's attention, he isn't a clingy friend who JK wants to shake off and Tae isn't exaggerating their bond. Tae is none of the weird things people accuse him of and that's a good thing to have confirmed so decisively (even if we already knew.)

As for the photos, I guess this is the mystery that is left! It does feel kind of like Tae included JK because he was part of Type 1's production, doesn't it? And I do think the quality of some of the photos is very similar to JK's photos. And we have that picture of topless person with longish hair who may or may not be JK taking a picture:

(I go back and forth on this because sometimes it doesn't look curly enough to be JK's hair but then actually, I think his hair only looks so curly in that one picture because it's wet and when it's dried out, it can sit straighter. Etc etc.)

Anyway blah blah, maybe we'll find out for sure but we all absolutely had a hunch, didn't we?!

I hope they do find our support even a little bit encouraging. I reckon fandom can feel pretty intense but generally everyone on here seems to be rational and keen not to be inappropriate about them? At least I hope genuinely supportive voices sometimes get through.

Fan Art: I've for sure loved and shared a lot of great fan art.

Slow Burn: I read Death and An Angel by @littlemisspascal and was hooked from chapter one. Binge-read the entire thing in one sitting, and was completely invested from start to finish. Such a beautiful and creative love story!

Crack/Dieter: I got a hilarious two-for-the-price-of-one with Low Hanging Gruit by @covetyou. This was another recommendation that definitely made me laugh out loud. Googled a Term: I can't tell you how often I've had to Google something fic-related. I'm old. I can't keep up with the "cool kids" anymore...

Got Silly in the Tags: It is rare for me to get really silly in the tags. I like to use my tags for organizing (type A much?) and I mostly get silly in the reblog with comments/gifs.

Marcus Moreno: Throwing it back to @frannyzooey and The Secret series, which was my fic intro to Marcus. Deliciously written. Chefs kiss (per usual).

Song Fic: It's not a "traditional" song fic, but I Hear a Symphony by @projectionistwrites is all centered around Joel's rediscovering his love for music.

Coffee Shop AU: Again, it's not 100% traditional, but Hot Coffee by @omgreally was a treat of a one-shot that gave me the jitters!

Rom-Com: Grays by @fuckyeahdindjarin made me laugh from the get-go. By fan-fic standards, it's probably considered an "oldie," but it's definitely a goodie.

Awakened a Kink: I have no children. I also have no desire to have children. But breeding kink fics sometimes makes my brain go "brrr." Especially if it's mixed with competency and the reader is taken care of/protected.

Forced Proximity: @goodwithcheese recently penned Girl Next Door and when I say I am UNWORTHY... I mean... Jesus H. Christ...

Dark Fic & Max Phillips: Blood & Tinsel by @morallyinept is a dark(ish), spicy, smutty mix that pulls you in from the first sentence!

Javi G: Care for a Little Golden Hour by @all-the-way-down-here is a Javi G. x Male Reader fic full of spice and care.

Sent a Horny Anon: I've sent them anon and not anon. LOL

Whump: Omg... Tonight You Belong To Me by @intheorangebedroom is the whumpiest-whump that ever whumped. If you're into angst and being all up in your feels, this is a fic for you!

Din Djarin: An oldie, but a goodie from @charnelhouse called In the Dark. It's the "we almost died" smut story we all know and love.

Soulmate: Again, Death and An Angel by @littlemisspascal was an amazing fic. A totally different take on the soulmate trope that had me hooked from chapter one. I absolutely loved it!

Fluff: Let Me by @polaroidpascal is a very gentle fic about taking care of your partner and giving them a bit of extra love - especially when they need it most.

Bookshop AU: The Book of Love by @undercoverpena is still one of my favorite Bookshop AU fics to read. Full of all the feels and fluff and flirting.

Mortifying Typo: I think we've all done this before. LOL

Marcus Pike: All the Time in the World by @whataperfectwasteoftime was a beautiful one-shot about a couple's first time together. Very romantic and full of emotion and so very, very gentle. I loved it!

Angst: Emergency Contact by @javiscigarette definitely hit me right in the feels. So much emotion packed into a one-shot!

Western: There are two that stick out in my head: Palomino and Adversity. Both are so amazing!

Dave York: Just read Second Sight by @goodwithcheese and literally had to dig my own grave because I perished. PERISHED, I tell you.

Booped: Oh, you know I booped. I booped my way to the top. lmfao

Oberyn Martell: Dancing Phantoms on the Terrace by @janaispunk didn't have to come for my throat like it did... :::ugly crying:::

Since you‘ve been into the fandom space due to hxh and jjk…

Which is very valid btw, sometimes it’s takes a while to jump into a community, especially since fandoms are such a mixed bag.

…Have you made some friends/mutuals that you never expected to be friends/mutuals with?

When I joined the HxH fandom was quite insular. There were some very visible big name fans who just engaged with one another. And when you look at fic recs here for HxH you still get the echos of that. You will see certain names repeated over and over again. Actually having someone rec my fics recently made me cry because if my friend Subdee wasn't on a given day on tumblr often when I posted my writing here no one would even leave like on it. I had mutuals literally scroll past my writing and reblog from me fics or ao3 links authored by the popular HxH and not even leave a courtesy like on my fic that was posted around the same time as the reblog.

And this was the situation several years after I joined. For a long time I felt I won't make any friends in the fandom. I actually made my first friends in the fandom when I participated in 2018 HxH big bang. After that event I befriended some people, and I even became acquaintances with some of the popular HxH blogs, even mutuals with some. So yeah, all the friends I made in the fandom were unexpected.

And honestly the HxH fandom here on tumblr is really cool and that's mostly thanks to @shalnarkonice who's the true hero of the fandom. Shal runs the hxhbbs, reverse bb, several other events and a thriving discord server, we made a zine together as in I pitched the idea to Shal and she just fucking put a team together. I had never expected that I would do a huge year long project with Shal. But generally Shal probably brings at least half the fans here together, facilitates so many friendships. HxH fandom really lucked out that it has Shal.

In the JJK fandom on the other hand I hadn't expected to make any friends because the JJK fandom is a fucking dumpster fire, generally, and here in particular, though from what I've heart twitter is worse. Compared to HxH which is a fandom in hibernation, JJK is alive and vibrant. But unlike the HxH fandom, it's full of people who hate read the manga, people who are in the fandom to shit on it, to post their bad faith takes. Or people who just want to write that they don't understand what's going on, lol. Or sometimes just write takes to prove that they really didn't pay attention to anything in the manga. Or just post thirst, and like.. I like some thirst, like this nice dessert to the fandom experience. In JJK it's the main course and it's just too much for me. And there is some art, but mostly of characters I care little about. And it's completely disorganised, there is not Shal who gives the fandom structure so that you can engage with others at this low emotional stakes level by just doing stuff next to each other in an event and get closer if you notice that you vibe together.

No, you have to do direct engagement and that's scary. But I found amazing people in it too. There's cursedvibes and his meta is so good, actually he's my subdee in the JJK fandom. They are both meta royalty plus they are just super neat to talk to in private about anything and everything. I also befriended the wonderful yuujispinkhair, and this is very much wow.

What’s your fannish ID? In most spaces (ao3, twitter, etc) you can find me under thelonebamf which is a handle I've had for //checks watch// over twenty years now and has a laughable origin that as far as I know predates the B.A.M.F. acronym, but guess who looked like a total d-bag on forums for years lol. Anyways, yeah, I've been lost in the Marvel sauce for literal decades now. Here on tumblr you can find me at @amazing-spiderling which is kind of a mishmash of one of the names Tony gives Peter in Civil War that I thought was funny.

What types of fanworks do you create? I dabble in creating fanart, comics, fics, and have made one fanmix and would probably do more if my taste in music was better. I have also smooshed all those interests together to run a small ask blog! I have run zines and events in other fandoms and would probably like to take a stab at that when irl calms down a little for me. :)

What are your favourite types of fanworks, when you’re not creating? I consume a lot of fanfic, pretty much every night before bed. XD I've just started getting into listening to podfics more recently. I love fanmixes especially when I'm trying to get some inspiration for a ship and want to get a feel for how other people interpreted the pairing. Gives you a little perspective. And who doesn't love some adorable fanart of their faves? Fan videos are great, but probably even better when you're watching them with your fandom friends and yelling over the internet. XD Oh, and when I see a full fledged fan comic, I pretty much lose my mind.

What do you like in particular about this fandom? I am pretty myopic when it comes to fandoms and ships. I'm usually there for one character/one ship only. In this case, I am here (the DD/Defenders fandom) for MattFoggy goodness exclusively. Of course since the two characters have SO much history, and are incapable of existing outside each other's orbits, canon has presented us with so many delightful and entertaining versions of their partnership to play with. Goodness knows I've fallen deep down the Earth-65 (Spider-Gwen) hole with these two and am likely never to crawl out. Oops. I love a good regular canon story too, and I'm happy to devour any AU a fic throws at me.

Do you like participating in fan events? I really enjoy doing fandom events and collaborations! I think I leaned into it pretty hard when I first started creating for the Daredevil fandom because it felt like if I was doing an exchange or a bang, then I was making something that at least one person was going to be into. Also, I have found that in most cases, it's a great way to meet people and make friends. I am one of those people that loves to pick my partner's brain, and likewise offer suggestions when needed. Sometimes you really hit that stride with each other and it makes you both that much more excited to work on the thing, and that's awesome. FRENS!

What about your creating process? If I'm writing, I find other words really distracting, but I also find it hard to work in silence. Coffee shop music is usually okay because it's not right in my face, but if I'm at home (god, when was the last time I worked in a coffee shop…) I need to have a more chill ambient thing going on. I put on a lot of lo-fi and vaporwave mixes when I need to make words be go. TBH I am SUCH a Goldilocks when it comes to writing. The vibe needs to be right, I need to have a plan in mind, my chair needs to be comfy… etc etc. At least when I do get down to it, I can smash out the words pretty quickly, just getting to that point can take some finesse. XD

If I'm drawing, it's another thing entirely. I tend to put on television, but it has to be something that I've either seen before (so I'm not worried about looking at the screen) or something that is really low stakes (youtube people reviewing snacks or something). I think I actually prefer people talking to music for art times… usually. It can just depend on what I'm working on.

Do you interact a lot with other fans? I am on discord... way too much, and pretty much have one foot in the Avocados server during all of my waking hours- which is great. I've made some really good friends there! [get in touch with lonebamf for info about the Avocados server!] Other than that, I always make an effort to comment on people's posts on other platforms where I feel like that kind of engagement is lacking (fanart on twitter/instagram) because I know how much I enjoy encouragement. Of course my inbox is always open here (and on the askblog, duh) in case anyone ever wants to pick my brain.

Do you have other fandoms you'd like to talk about? I am VERY slow to shift fandoms/ships (and never really leave, tbh), so my list is not very long. The most relevant one to mention would be Spideypool (and Spider-Man as a whole). I even did a podcast about Spider-Man and some of his wilder exploits called "Was Spider-Man There?" where my non-comic reading friend would make up a wild situation and I would have to figure out if it ever happened in canon. Good times. I also spent a lot of time in the Metal Gear Solid Snake/Otacon fandom because I guess there's just something in my DNA that makes me love "trained soldier who has the skillz to pay the billz and his dorky best friend and they make each other better people" as a ship dynamic.

Is there any particular piece you'd like to showcase for this post? So I love my askblog and my comics but the thing I want to point at with big neon flashing arrows is this fanfic I did for a recent server exchange called "The Indictment of Sick Jan" which is an Earth-65 fic about DA Nelson attending a holiday party Matt has invited him to against his better judgement. I really love writing Murderdock and their interactions and hope to get some more fics like this out there, but this is what I have to share for now! 10 Types of Aesthetics If You Want to Switch up Your Wardrobe ~Vibes~

1. E-girl

Borrowing its looks from anime, "e-girls" typically have dyed hair (mostly concentrated to the two front sections like Dua Lipa here) and hyper-stylized makeup that exaggerates their eyes and cheeks. Many even draw on tiny hearts or freckles on their faces and pile on the blush to give their cheeks an extra-rosy hue, although there are also those who opt for no or minimal makeup. 3. Soft Girls

Some iterations, however, also incorporate edgy contrasting items like chunky boots, black baguette bags, or statement sunglasses, but it can still be "soft" because it's about the overall ~aura~ you're giving off. 4. Grunge

Think back to the late '80s and early '90s when bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam reigned and flannels were *the* fashion staple. Marc Jacobs also released a now-iconic grunge collection for Perry Ellis in 1992 that was inspired by the burgeoning music scene coming out of the Pacific Northwest. The fashion result of the aesthetic is loads of mesh, plaid, mixed prints, combat boots, and layered choker necklaces. 5. Cottagecore

Imagine wearing a prairie dress or a breezy nightgown and living in a cute tiny cottage surrounded by a garden you tend to everyday. Sounds like pure bliss, right? The cottage and garden might be a stretch, but at least you can attain the illusion that you own both by wearing a floral or eyelet number reminiscent of The Little House on the Prairie. Brands like Christy Dawn, DÔEN, and Hill House Home (with its viral "Nap Dress") can help you in this department.

6. Art Hoe

This movement originated on Tumblr with the Black and LGBTQ+ community expressing themselves through art and collages.

While the term "hoe" can be controversial, the gender-fluid co-creator of the aesthetic, Mars, explained to The Guardian: “‘Art hoe’ or ‘art ho’ is a term used by me and my co-founder Jam to empower and uplift participants of color in this movement... it's normally a derogatory way to refer to women–especially Black women–as being promiscuous, within the male gaze. Using the term in an arbitrary way diminishes its harmful origin in light of something better.”

The color yellow is often affiliated with this aesthetic as is a vintage-looking outfit that channels nature or art, like this adorable House of Sunny cardigan above.

7. Baddie

This is that look that is made for the IG grid. A tight-fitting dress, full makeup, and designer pieces are giveaways for this aesthetic. Beauty bloggers and the Kardashian/Jenner clan are pros at channeling the vibe, as well as Lori Harvey here with her full Dior ensemble. Like, WOW.

8. Dark Academia

Tweed blazers, sweater vests, and anything that reminds you of prep school or a fancy (and much-too-expensive) East Coast university are staples for this aesthetic. The "dark" wording though simply means the tones of your outfit skew on the darker side and typically include browns and blacks.

9. Light Academia

The same but lighter colors! A very simple explanation, I know. Whites, creams, and beiges are the tones you should wear to get in on this vibe.

10. Fairycore

The beauty of fairycore is that there is no recipe: Each item looks individually crafted because the aesthetic embraces the uniqueness of the wearer, even if there are staple pieces to complete the fairy look. For example, elements of fairycore can be traced back to recent history, long before it hit the internet mainstream (and our social media feeds) in 2021. Pain Is So Close To Pleasure (modern!Queen x platonic!reader) - Chapter 2

Summary: As a recently promoted Soloist for the Royal Ballet, you move closer to Covent Garden with your three-year-old daughter, Rose. But your new neighbour turns out to be the last person you'd expect to pop up on your doorstep.

A/N: This chapter, but really this whole fic, has such a specific vibe and I love it?? Like I can relate to a lot of the things I describe, and I don’t know if that’s a me thing, or a British thing, or just a thing. Anyways I’m here for it. And if you’re not British and don’t relate to this fic in the way I do, and you’ve wondered what it’s like to live in Britain, this might give you a rough idea.

The chapter count for this crept up again because I’ve had about two or three more ideas for this. I think now would be a good time to mention that I’m treating this as more of a load of one-shots set in the same verse, rather than a story with a plot. That’s why it will start to seem more like a series of vignettes, not as a storyline.

You popped your head round the door to the studio and smiled to yourself when you found it void of people. You switched the lights on, the charcoal-grey clouds outside casting a darkness over the Opera House; uncharacteristic for midday, but then it was London, and it was February. You couldn’t expect too much from good old British weather.

It wasn’t often that you had the opportunity of having a studio all to yourself, so when you did, you simply had to make the most of it. The way your timetable for the day had worked out meant that you had a longer lunch break than everyone else, not by much, but fifteen minutes was more than enough time to go over a routine you’d crafted yourself. So, seeing as you could afford to eat later on, and everyone else was either in the canteen or some café in Covent Garden, you decided to book one of the studios for your own use.

You connected your phone to the mostly unused speaker in the corner of the room and quickly found the song. Time was of the essence here, and you were most conscious of that. You lightly ran to the centre of the room, making sure you weren’t facing the wall-length mirror for watching yourself dance made you rather self-conscious, replacing passion with technicality. This dance was your own, you had created it, cradled it, held it oh-so-close to your heart; unlike anything you’d ever done professionally, this dance was all about the enthusiasm and the love with which you danced.

Freddie’s voice rang out through the studio, clear as day and filling each and every particle with the richness of his voice. The singular note was soon accompanied by harmonies and then the familiar piano motif of Somebody To Love. You smiled despite yourself as you began the routine.

You promised yourself that one day you’d perform this to someone, even if it was just Rose. But that day was a long way off yet.

The way you danced was unlike how you had ever done so on stage. You performed with a vivacity that many dancers lost so early on in their careers when they valued the physical quality of their dancing over the raw emotion of it. You considered yourself quite lucky that you hadn’t yet surrendered to that particular temptation.

You considered this song to be a crescendo in and of itself, just building and building as its many layers unfolded. You’d made sure that this was reflected in the choreography. Each section was grander a more extravagant than the last. You quite liked the simultaneous challenge and familiarity of it; it made for a good dance to return to when you found your head overflowing with your thoughts and anxieties. You made more and more use of the space as the song progressed, like you were contained by an invisible circle that gradually grew.

When the third verse came around, and Freddie’s voice temporarily faded into silence, fooling the nonchalant listener into thinking it was the end, you had a second to pause. You used it to inhale deeply before starting the fouettés that accompanied the acapella. One, then another, then another, more, more, more until you genuinely thought you were going to fall over. You persevered, however, pushing through all forty of the turns, and even though by the end you wanted nothing more than to lay on the ground and watch the world spin, you couldn’t stop yourself from beaming because holy shit you’d never done them all before. You shook off the feeling, allowing yourself to revel in it later; right now, you had the rest of the dance to get through.

You breezed through the rest of it, the highest jeté seeming insignificant compared to the dizzying hell you’d just put yourself through. When everything quietened down once again, and Freddie faded back into his falsetto, you came to a still in the centre of the ‘stage’, going up on pointe and gradually raising one leg into the air so that it was parallel to your upper body and then to your face. When the music kicked in again, you dropped it back down and returned to your original flow. With the last tiny piano chord of the song, you did a cheeky little jump with the biggest grin on your face, before curtseying to your non-existent audience.

Or so you thought.

A slow clap sounded from the doorway and you whirled round to look at the intruder, blushing furiously with the embarrassment of being seen without knowing. Your smile made a comeback, however, when you recognised the face.

“Wow, that really was something, (Y/N),” Brian whistled, “I’m impressed, truly.”

“Thank you,” you ducked your head, panting heavily. Your muscles screamed with exhaustion, and even though you wanted to just lay down and maybe have a nap, you stayed strong, refusing to appear rude to Brian.

Somehow, he seemed to read your mind, “You can sit down, you must be knackered. Don’t mind me.”

You smiled at him gratefully before sinking down in the corner of the studio next to your bag and grabbing your water bottle with desperation. You gestured to the spot next to you which he took gladly. “How much of that did you see?”

“Pretty much all of it,” he laughed, “I was about pop in for a chat but I saw you put the song on, and I thought I might as well watch.”

“Gosh,” you muttered, beginning to take off your pointe shoes to relieve your aching feet. You’d had back-to-back classes all morning and doing a routine such as that one after all of that just didn’t help.

“I didn’t know you guys danced to non-classical music,” he said.

You managed to get one shoe off, and you started on the other one, wrinkling your nose at the quite frankly disgusting smell that Brian was politely showing no reaction to, “We don’t. Well, I haven’t heard of it anyway. Even if people did somewhere, it would be an awfully long time before the Royal started doing it.”

He shot you a confused look, “Then how…”

“It’s my dance. I choreographed it a while back,” you shrugged, not really understanding what the big deal was, “That’s probably the best run I’ve done of it.”

“Wow, I,” he ran a hand through his hair, “That looked like something from an actual ballet.”

You ducked your head again with the kind of embarrassed pride that comes with compliments, “Thanks, Brian, that means a lot. I only made it a while ago. I,” you laughed self-deprecatingly before saying, “I’d just done quite possibly the worst audition of my life, and I couldn’t stop thinking about how shit it was. So, I just freestyled to some of my favourite songs and that happened.”

“You just made that up?” he asked incredulously.

“It wasn’t nearly as good as it was just then. I’ve been working on it for months until it became what you just watched. It’s been my little side project,” you mused, shoving your phone and both of your pointe shoes into your ballet bag. You poked your head up and peered through the huge window on the opposite wall, cringing at the heavy rain and how that wasn’t a good mix with the non-waterproof trainers you were now putting on, “Oh, shit, I thought it wasn’t going to rain until later. I don’t think I packed my umbrella,” you said, forgetting about your shoes for a second and rifling through your bag.

Brian placed a hand on your arm, “Relax, I have one, we’ll just have to share, if that’s alright with you?”

“Thanks,” you looked at him gratefully before returning to doing your laces.

“Where are you going anyway? You haven’t finished work already, have you?”

“Oh, I wish,” you laughed sadly. You did love your job, but today was just one of those days where you had no energy and just wanted to cuddle up on the sofa with a cup of tea and a box of Quality Street chocolates all to yourself and binge watch Miranda on Netflix. “No, I didn’t bring any lunch with me, so I thought I’d have a look and see which cafes have free tables. You’re more than welcome to join me if you want.”

About five minutes later, you found yourself running through Covent Garden Market while it was hammering it down with rain, sharing an umbrella with Brian that was way too small for the both of you. You were trying your hardest not to slip on the shining cobblestones beneath your feet, while also trying not to knock into any other pedestrians who, like you, were also running for cover. It wasn’t long until you reached your destination, a café that was a favourite haunt of yourself and Rose. It served at Rose’s Friday treat after she had finished preschool for the day, when the weather wasn’t too good and you couldn’t go to the playground in St James’s Park. You also frequented it on bank holiday weekends or half-terms where you’d been in the flat for three days straight and were in desperate need of some fresh air but had absolutely nothing to do.

You held the door open for Brian, hearing the little bell ring when it came into contact with the door, and you grabbed the umbrella from him as he entered. You shook it rather aggressively outside and popped it into the bucket next to you, filled to the brim with the umbrella of fellow patrons who unluckily got caught in the rain and had dived into the nearest establishment for sanctuary. You made your way to the only free table left while Brian queued up to order your food and drinks.

This wasn’t actually the first time you two had done this, though it was the third. The first time had been rather awkward, as from the second you put your shoes on to leave to the second you said goodbye, you were both repeatedly stopped by people wanting to talk to Brian. And even though neither of you ever complained, you had later admitted to each other that you had found it rather annoying. The second time wasn’t as bad, though at one point you had been stopped by a guy from some tabloid you’d never heard of asking for an interview. Much to your amusement, and Brian’s embarrassment, the guy had actually been looking to talk to you instead of him. You’d politely declined, offering to do it another time, but as soon as you’d sat down to eat, you teased Brian mercilessly about it, and still did every now and then. All it took was for you to say Brian look I’m more famous than you for him to blush furiously and ask you to please change the subject. Considering this was the third time now, the initial shock of oh my God I’m just casually having lunch with Brian May this is fine had passed. Now it was merely having lunch with a friend. Just that that friend just so happened to be an international icon. No big deal.

You looked up to see Brian making his way over to you, carrying a tray of food, and you smiled when you noticed that he’d remembered from last time when you’d told him what, in your opinion, was the best food this particular café had to offer. He sat down opposite you and plonked the tray down on the table, as you both started to work out who’s food and drink was who’s.

“How’s work been this week?” he opened up the conversation as he stirred his latte that had fake milk in it because I don’t know if their milk is locally sourced, (Y/N)!

“Not too bad, actually,” you said, taking a sip of your own drink and cringing when it scalded your tongue, “We’re just in our last week of rehearsals for The Winter’s Tale right now. Someone got injured on Tuesday, and our first performance is next Tuesday, so that’s not exactly ideal. But we’ll get through it, it’ll be fine, I’m sure,” you shrugged. The show must go on, you supposed. Pun not intended.

“Listen, (Y/N),” he started, his more serious tone intriguing you already, “I need to talk to you about something.”

You nodded slowly, “Okay…” You weren’t all too sure where he was going with this, and it was impossible to tell if the news he was about to impart was good or bad.

“I know this is very sudden, and there’s no guarantee that this will even happen, but I thought I’d ask you first,” he rambled for a moment.

“What, what are you on about?” you laughed impatiently.

He took a deep breath and said, “I have a business proposition for you.”

The after-school pick-me-up was carnage at the best of times, let alone on a Friday which also just so happened to be the last day of half-term. Parents crowding around the doorway, desperate to reunite with their child and careless of who they had to shove out of their way in order to reach them. Children spilled out of the school, arms full of lunch boxes and month-old paintings that were meant to be rainbows and dragons but resembled something similar to an oil spill. Teachers waved goodbye with the odd word to the overly concerned parent, not-so-secretly relieved that their week off was edging closer, and hurrying everyone off because the sooner they left, the sooner half-term started. Something which parents had very split feelings over.

Not for you, however. You were more than happy to get Rose to yourself for the week, finding the flat way too still and silent and void of a child’s laughter for you to find remotely comfortable. And even though half-term would always mean a busy show week for you due to the sheer amount of families desperately needing something to do, you were still grateful for the time you got together. That may or may not be because you had spent the far majority of your adult life being a parent, but you weren’t complaining.

As per usual, you heard Rose’s shout long before you saw her face, but you decided that you wouldn’t have it any other way when you saw her run straight towards, “Mummy!”

You crouched down and hugged her tightly when she collided into your arms, almost overbalancing from the sheer force of it, “Hello, darling, did you have a good day?”

She pulled away and grinned at you, “Yeah! We had a dance party and we played games and we played musical chairs and I won and I got some chocolate!”

“Oh, wow, that’s really good Rose, well done you,” you bopped her nose and turned to the things she was holding, “What’s all this?”

She thrust a piece of sugar paper under your nose, “I did a glitter painting yesterday and it’s dry now! It has every colour in the whole world!”

You took it from her and looked at it, pretending to inspect it like a pretentious artist and putting on the poshest voice possible, “Well, I do think it’s rather splendid, if I do say so myself. Absolutely spiffing.”

She dissolved into giggles, “Mummy, you’re silly.”

You gasped in mock offence as you took her hand and started to lead her out of the crowd, “Excuse me, I’m not silly! I’m a very serious grown-up, don’t you know?”

“I don’t want to be a grown-up! Grown-ups are boring. I want to be little forever and ever and ever.”

“I’m a grown-up, do you think I’m boring?” you asked.

“Only sometimes,” she said very seriously, “Only when you talk about boring grown-up stuff.”

You chuckled slightly, “What about Rog and Bri? Are they boring?”

She laughed again as if you’d just said the funniest thing she’d heard all day, “No! They’re fun because they give me ice cream and they think of really good games,” she paused for a second, “Mummy, are we going to the park today?”

“Well, it is Friday so if you want to go then we’ll go. It is a very sunny day today,” you said, frowning when you noticed Rose’s face, “What’s up, sweetheart?”

She pouted as if deep in thought, “I don’t think I want to go today.”

“It’s perfectly alright if you don’t want to, darling. It’s half-term next week so we can always go another day,” you assured her, “Why don’t you want to go?”

“I feel a bit tired,” she said sheepishly, “I don’t want to fall asleep on the swings and fall off!”

“Oh, baby,” you said, heart swelling with the simultaneous silliness and adorableness of her logic, “I’d catch you before you fall, don’t worry. But we can go home if you want. We’ll find something else for your Friday treat.”

Her eyes lit up, “Can we have cookies? The nice ones with the big chocolate bits?”

“Good idea, darling, we can have cookies,” you did a quick mental run-through of what your biscuit tin was looking like at the moment and said, “I don’t think we have any of those ones at home so we’ll stop off at the bakery on the way home.”

“Yay!” she squealed before singing, “We’re having cookies! We’re having cookies!”

Rose spent the entire journey home singing that song, and even though you wanted nothing more than to never hear that tune again, you wouldn’t dare burst her bubble of joy. Besides, you didn’t think you could tell her to stop if you tried; she really was that cute. Or maybe you just told yourself that, so you didn’t feel like a terrible parent. You guessed you would never know. At least the lady who worked at the bakery found it endearing that a child could be that excited for something as relatively simple as cookies.

By the time you’d shoved the key in the door and the two of you had spilled into your flat, it was around half past four and Rose was positively exhausted, despite her best attempts to look and sound awake. You’d decided to have the cookies with some milk you’d warm up once you’d sorted out Rose’s stuff and gotten her changed from her long day at preschool. Then you just supposed you’d have some cuddles, and, with any luck, she’d fall asleep because the poor girl really needed it.

You put the radio on in the background before snuggling down on the sofa with her comfortably in your lap and your favourite honey-golden blanket draped over the both of you.

“I love you, Mummy,” she murmured against your chest before nibbling on the cookie that was bigger than her hand.

“I love you too, baby,” you said, pressing a kiss to the top of her head and feeling her snuggle in more, as if that was even possible. You suddenly remembered your lunch with Brian, and the news you needed to impart, “I had lunch with Bri today,” you started, feeling her nod and carrying on, “He had a very cool idea, darling.”

“What was it?” she whispered, large, curious eyes looking up at you.

“He asked me if I wanted to work on a film, and I said yes,” you smiled, watching her face light up with the muted excitement that was usually paired with some element of confusion.

“A film? Is it a big film? Like Tangled?” she asked, suddenly much livelier than before.

“Yes, sweetheart, a bit like Tangled, except there’s going to be real people in it instead of animated people,” you explained.

“What’s the film about?” she was getting more curious by the second and it just made your heart leap with pride.

“It’s about the band that Rog and Bri are in, darling. It’s the story of how they got famous,” you grinned.

“Who are you in it?”

“Ooooooh, I couldn’t possibly tell you that yet, I’ve got to keep it a secret,” you said judiciously, smiling when she pouted at you, “I’ll tell you another day, sweetheart, don’t you worry.”

“Promise?” she asked hopefully.

You brought her into a hug again and whispered, “Promise.”

7th Comedy Monologue

So all this “80s revival stuff” with Duran Duran and Depeche Mode touring, Petshop Boys releasing a new album, a new generation falling in love with Queen and She-Ra while the world is being messed up by a tyrannical iron lady and a talking tangerine makes a bit of sense doesn’t it?”

Even though I was born in the 2000s I’ve always loved most of the media from that decade, the gothic and upbeat synthesizer music,the cheaply made but entertaining cartoons,the video games,the basic but stylish fashion,the musicals and John Hughes films,the mix of music genres in the charts,Goth,Synth,Punk,2 Tone,Post-Punk,New Wave,Glam Metal,Alternative,Shoegaze,Hip Hop,Electronica

I was watching Saved by the Bell  before Netflix even existed

Then again a lot of the shows from then were also being revived back in my day

Dal Winton was presenting game shows, Pingu replaced the scary walrus monsters with rap music, I watched or had VHS tapes of the Muppet show, Noddy, Postman Pat and Scooby Doo.

Scooby-Doo! Now that’s a show that never gets old because it never changes, anyone regardless of what generation they’re from would be able to tell you

“Oh Yeah, I remember Scooby Doo”

When you think about it Scooby Doo is quite philosophical

we are all just a gang going on our own adventures

that and the first few live-action movies are modern masterpieces

I was just browsing Twitter or Tumblr or literally anywhere on the internet only to see that screencaps were taken from the live action Scooby Doo interviews had turned into memes

Well,I was auditioning for the role of Velma, I could sense from the way Matthew Lillard just fully encompassed the role of Shaggy, it felt like he was Shaggy, he was our saviour as he felt his spiritual energy increase, that’s when I knew we were working with a legend

Something like that although Matthew isn’t too fond of the memes himself specifically the ones where his spiritual connections are described more like demon possession rituals

I mean I might also have inspirations where I feel like I can philosophically connect with them, in their performing style and personality but that’s where I draw the line

Personality?  That’s a tricky subject

You could say some people have consistent personalities

People said Freddie Mercury and David Bowie were party animals who were incredible on stage with their charisma, creativity and charm but other sources have said they were relaxed, laid back people who were shy when being interviewed.

That could just be the contrast between their onstage and offstage personas but not all of us have that, even if we are all  just actors in a play, hoping each day goes the right way

Some of us are punk, even if we don’t explicitly say that we are, or have the stereotypical style associated with it,a lot of us just try to be ourselves,some of us can enjoy reality shows and horror movies at the same time,some of us can enjoy One Direction and Gorillaz,some of us can love fashion but also love memes, Theatre, and 1980s aesthetics

I’d say I’m the same but sometimes my personality is all over the place

I can go from being cheerful, relaxed and happy to being dazed and clumsy or cynical or entranced and hyper-fixated to Pessimistic and Cold to Quiet and Timid to Mellow and Loud   what personality traits you associate with me, however, is up to your own conclusion

call me any internet subculture stereotype and I’d be able to tell you about how I either, unfortunately, was the stereotype or I hung around people who were those stereotypes

if you said I was a classic rock enthusiast years ago and now you’d be right

if you said I used to be a cringy anime enthusiast  you’d be right

if you said I was one of those theatre kids who watched Disney sitcoms you’d be right

Another thing punks did was and sometimes still do was creating fanzines, magazines related to their favourite band or tv show or their own opinions on what’s going in the world, nowadays you could say social media has replaced that, but publications like the Daily Mirror, The Sun and TMZ still have a presence on there,I’d say fanzines should have a revival.

The BAFTA’s also happened recently and I wasn’t impressed, then again when are awards shows anything other than beauty pageants for films anyway?

Some films deserved their awards, but some films barely got a mention, Paddington 2 wasn’t included in there or in any of the other film awards this year and Stan and Ollie got nothing…

A darn shame because that film was so well made, it felt authentic, while Stan and Ollie also have a bit of a universal following, there are still some people who probably don’t know who they are!

Two moustached blokes, who in the 20s and 50s would just try to delight audiences the best way they could, through slapstick and laughter, without them, most of the world’s double acts wouldn’t exist and even Spongebob wouldn’t exist

Yep, you heard me right, all those misadventures Spongebob and Patrick would have, they were loosely based on the adventures of Laurel and Hardy, except instead of it being about a tall British man and a fat American it was about an anthropomorphic sponge and a dumb but caring starfish.

Speaking of Spongebob, there was some sad news involving Spongebob not too long ago

The creator of Spongebob, Stephen Hillenburg…had passed away from ALS

I know, it’s awful,stupid motor neuron diseases and stupid Adam Levine too,for those who don’t know there was an episode of Spongebob called Band Geeks where they ended the episode with the cast playing a song called Sweet Victory over a Superbowl type of event, for the actual super bowl Spongebob fans around the world petitioned for that song to be played in tribute for Stephen,however we got Adam Levine singing a different song instead….what a letdown

If it wasn’t for SpongeBob I and some of the rest of the new generation, wouldn’t know half the old music or old films we know now.

To let down millions of fans like that makes me sick

Honestly, I was a bit sick a few weeks ago, I’ve been sick before and hospitalized twice but this particular moment of sickness was odd

It was like any other night, I was trying to get some sleep and lucid dream, but then it happened, the shivers, the shakes the trembling aches,

Out of nowhere, I felt like an ice-cube stuck in a microwave, It was too cold but it was too warm, I eventually got to sleep but when I got up the next morning I felt sick again, sorry for disclosing those details but it was like the exorcist…

Usually, when I’m sick watching documentaries, Kitchen Nightmares or 90s films weirdly cheers me up

Speaking of films, Rocketman the Elton John movie is out and it actually looks good

It’s being directed by the guy who was the replacement director for Bo Rhap and if it ends up being brilliant I won’t be surprised, the trailer gave off Velvet Goldmine vibes, the style of composed cinematography and I’m sounding like Film Twitter, Isle of Dogs was a good film…oh wait it wasn’t acknowledged much by the award shows either.

Another amazing film I recently watched was Rocky Horror…I know I’ve mentioned it before but that was when I only knew the sequel and some of the soundtrack,

It was amazing, it was brilliant, it was fantastic, it was out of this world,

ah! Rocky Horror was splendid

I definitely now understand why it’s still going strong to this day

It’s that hybrid of rock and roll, optimistic nihilism and soft aesthetics

That just works for me, another thing I’ve remembered was that Richard O’ Brien played the dad in Phineas and Ferb, well that explains that part of me liked that cartoon for the music and some of the characters but other characters did my head in like that Isabel character

Oof that’s too harsh…but considering aspects of the marvel Phineas and Ferb crossover were surprisingly a bit sexist at times outdated for the show that is usually quite progressive in its representation and characters…it’s probably accurate

Another person who hasn’t changed but is also often harsh, Piers Morgan, a little tweety bird told me he had a mysterious illness, good riddance I’d say, he’s the new Noel Edmonds, the presenter who used to be ok but now is unbearable…because he never shuts up

Thankfully though he’s “taking a break” from GMB that will rest our eardrums

Russell Brand has also been in the tabloids again, even though he’s more focused on his Buddhist spiritual recovery enlightening, looking back he wasn’t as bad as people described him, yeah at times he was a bit too over the top,but he was and is quite an ok bloke, but I’d say temporarily banning tickling is a bit of a stretch,

when you think about the number of people who disrespect our literal and figurative personal space on a daily basis, it kinda makes a bit of sense,

whether your sensory sensitive or not, I’m sure you hate it, when people are too touchy at times

although years ago I would’ve been a bit of an ignorant hypocrite about that

Hating it when crowds of kids would chase me like how the paparazzi chase their next gossip target, yet often annoyingly running up to people to talk to or entertain them.

I really need to learn to enjoy loneliness more because I get some of my best ideas when alone, but emotionally I feel a lot better when around others, a bit of an Ambivert really,

Ted Bundy, one of America's most notorious serial killers used charisma and charm in his court cases, and with the amount of fangirls giving him fanmail it was like the Beatles fandom but for people with Stockholm syndrome,and now with Netflix’s documentary and Troy from High School Musical in an upcoming film about him, that seems to be repeating itself…

One show I know you probably haven’t heard of is The Boondocks, a south park esque cartoon with an anime esque art style, referencing the social commentary of African American culture and media, celebrating some aspects while critiquing others, through the lenses of a socialist boy named Huey Freeman, his rapper wannabe brother Riley and their activist grandad Robert.

This show was quite revolutionary,it referenced the issue of each episode quite well, even though it only lasted 4 seasons, however, because the show is quite American, apart from the animation which is done in Korea,The Boondocks is not well known in the UK, which is a shame because it is a really good show that still holds up…however, it does fall under one mousetrap that most other adult cartoons fall into….

Because of the references to violence,innuendo and other dark subject matter sometimes referenced in a satirically humorous way,some audiences  would just watch the show because it’s offensive thinking that the show was made just to be offensive..instead of what the show was actually made for..which was to give social commentary on the issues relevant to African American communities in America.

I had watched this show years ago, it only just came back on my radar, because the creator Aaron McGruder, who based the show off his webcomic of the same name, had recently made a new issue.

There’s a difference between being satirical and being offensive

Your either making fun of something bad that a system or people are doing to make people aware of how stupid and sad the world can be at times,subjectively making fun of a stereotype, or your an arse who thinks they’re a comedian when they waste their time on social media, thinking they’re amazing and funny when they’re holding up the line at Mcdonald’s and the only people laughing at their jokes are gammon and people who found Bernard Manning funny

I know sometimes I have unpopular opinions such as how my views of someone dip depending on their views of Kanye West

and sometimes I can be a bit snarky, and I hate and love stuff in equal amounts, but we need a bit of that don’t we, if we bottle it all up we explode like volcanos, but if we overshare too much, we crash like out of control cars

It’s all about moderation, salt is a tasty condiment but eat too much of it and your arteries will get clogged,

A few days back it was the day Mark Ashton passed away, for those who don’t know,he was an LGBT activist in the 80s,he volunteered with organizations such as the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament,he and the other activists helped to support the miners during the miner strike, creating the LGSM Alliance,Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners,there was a film made about them too, called Pride,but what some people don’t know is that….Mark Ashton was Northern Irish…he was one of us..he was the Marsha P Johnson of our time..if we were a bit like Mark Ashton this country would be a slightly more accepting place, why don’t we give love!

Let’s move on, plant more flowers in our garden..I know I sound like a hippie but it’s true, our Celtic Summerland is being used as a cesspool for Nuclear Waste

The 80s were telling us something with all those protect and survive adverts, yes some of us were prepared as the older generation made us alert, others couldn’t recognize that a lot of innocent people were getting hurt.

When we say we want a 1980s comeback we want the music, clothes, games and  films,

but Nope

while we have some of that the 1980s revival we get is the one that involves Nuclear Danger and the ghost of Margaret Thatcher

All these TV and Film revivals, some are cool others are just unnecessary  Do we really need a Snow White sequel? No, we don’t but we did get one even if it was unofficial

Back in 2007 a French animation company made a sequel to Snow White which was also a bit like Shrek in how it satirised the fairy tale tropes, how Prince Charming feels like he is objectified while he ends up doing the same thing to the female characters, quite a tosser but that’s the point of the parody to point out the flaws with fairy tale logic, and to put the likes of Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella in more realistic scenarios.

I’m a new fan, I might adore his work, but I had just learnt his name 2 years ago, whereas, with other fans, they have created their own work, such as Charlie Brooker and Simon Pegg… some were able to meet him…lucky...

i was scrolling through tumblr, decided to go through my recent likes and organize things into my different blogs. listened through some of velvet-seas, enjoyed a mix by dj lance lockarm, went to look them up on spotify, couldn't find anything so i turned to google. on google i scrolled until i landed on their discogs page and then a review from FreakyTrigger, which then led me to explore their website until i opened enough tabs to satiate my curiosity. i browsed their music section, found an article about documenting the writer's music listening history for a day, which was inspired by harkive.org.

and after doing a brief skim of their site and discovering that their annual review day is coming up on the 21st, i decided that i will do a quick rundown of today's day in music. i'll get back to reading more about the project and jotting down ideas, but i want to get this typed up before i get in too deep.

so what have i listened to today, thursday july 15th, 2021?

on my way to see george, i started where i left off on my camp 2012 playlist. i can't remember when i created this playlist on itunes/apple music, i wonder if it was before i even started streaming music? though, i find it hard to believe that i would have made it right after camp that summer. i'm going to do a quick google search and see if i can find out if there's a way to see when playlists in itunes/apple music were made like they show in spotify. so i'm not finding anything. oh well. last evening, mom and i went to the mall, parked by nordstrom. it was raining all afternoon, so the sky was still grey and it was heavy outside. late summer afternoons in the mall parking lot hold a particular weight for me so i decided to queue up my camp 2012 playlist, starting with silver lining by rilo kiley. this morning, the playlist started back up halfway through some devil by dave matthews, a song i probably haven't heard in at least 5 years. i graduated high school 6 years ago. i was in a daze in the car this morning, so i wasn't really listening or singing along. on swann, the shuffle played 3 consecutive red hot chili pepper songs (by the way, universally speaking, snow), i wanted to go back to my 2012 self. IF I MAY by pete francis made me nostalgic, dog nails tap the kitchen floor. while i waited in my car, hey hey hey and for the summer set me back a few years while i scrolled through tumblr and eventually tried to read a few pages of the spotify play. i shut the car off halfway through tutim techno.

at george's, i can't really remember the music he played. we talked about annoying tiktok songs and his love for die antward. we talked briefly about fiona apple while paper bag was playing. i saw something about the new john mayer album while scrolling through something and tried to find a leaked version of wild blue. queued up his interview with zane lowe on apple music to listen to on my way to rollin oats.

listened to that on the way there, can't remember if any music was playing while shopping. finished the interview on the way home, excited for the record to drop tomorrow. he talked about the construction of fake memories, i conjured up thoughts of making up memories from camp in the 90s, moments that are so fancifully constructed, they could never be real, and yet they feel so tangible. but i will continue to live in this secluded part of my mind that allows them to exist as if they not only actually happened, but i was actually there to experience it. this cannot be mentioned without acknowledging the role that exploring the camp coleman alumni group pages played in 2011-2012.

i didn't listen to music again until i went to go take a nap in my room after i was no longer satisfied with any of the comedy central stand up clips the youtube algorithm was feeding me. last night i fell asleep to a live performance by katy j pearson, thinking how wonderful her voice is. i shuffled the vicarious voyage playlist by jdavfromtheblock on spotify, adding some songs by adron to the queue and to my liked songs.

woke up and continued to listen to the playlist. after dinner, i sat on my bed while doing some GRE practice tests and continued to listen to the playlist. got distracted when i hit full moon by mitch margo, recognizing it from the seafaring stranger compilation by light in the attic i added sometime last year to my apple music library. i went through and queued some yacht rock songs (peter gallway, ned doheny). made it further along the playlist until it reached bumble buddies by jacob mann, which reminded me that jonwayne existed and didn't satisfy my expectations all over again (though, i did enjoy 40 winks).

at this point i had made it to scrolling through velvet-seas and started queuing up stuff i reblogged on there. listened to some cleaners from venus, unsure where i stand on that kind of music. it's not my vibe right now, but it has been and will be at some point.

somewhere between that and azealia banks, i hopped onto the dj lance lockarm mix which is ultimately what led me to typing these words right now. from his discogs, i found a 6 hr mix, people like us - a brief history of sound collage, he was featured in and then started listening to that on some random website google brought me to. i liked the third song, deck the hall by akufen, which i could only find on youtube. this of course led me down a little bit of a spotify hole and i added some recommended artists to the queue, none of which i really loved. i was ready to settle into another playlist, but i was still in a dance vibe, so i skimmed kelly's work from home playlist which then reminded me that not my boss! by blue hawaii existed, so i enjoyed that. somehow landed on tokyo ghetto pussy, which is what i was listening to right before i decided to listen to deck the hall by akufen again. going to have to download this one. ok just downloaded it and did a quick skim of his discogs. i have successfully stressed my spotify out, so i just quit and reopened the app.

so that's where i'm at. after this i am going to add music to apple music from my liked songs on spotify and then finish reading some tabs. this ended up being a lot longer than i anticipated, though i'm not fully surprised because i know that i can write forever about this stuff. this was really cool to see and i'm interested in potentially making this a daily habit.

Image. Young female college student inside a dorm room. Her desk is a messy, but aesthetically messy. She was taking photos previously for that dumb Tumblr post. To the right you see a fridge with a little note on it, how to be a good pm because of course she had to be the best. A salt lamp sits on top of it, illuminating a warm light against the wall around it from the warm orange glow of the rock. A tangle of Christmas lights crawls up the wall to a part of the ceiling because she didn’t buy a line long enough, but it was still nice to have them on because every time she walked into her room it brought her back to her childhood and the excitement of Christmas time approaching. Above her window was a Brazil banner, she got from the time she did an exchange in Brazil. Before she left her friends from the school she went to give her that as a gift, and now she has it hung there so she can look at it and remember to smile. Above the head of her bed, hung a poster of the world. It was a bunch of colours all mixed but still in the shapes of all the continents. On the bottom left, were words written “colour your world beautiful”. This satisfied both her travel bug and philosophical vibes she holds.

Her blinds are open, because the lights casting all along the city side reminded her of home and the times she would spend staring at downtown. She always found something special about night time. Comfort, maybe. But everyone is sleeping, there is no hurt or harm in the moment because everything seems peaceful. And every time she breathes in she feels renewed. A positive vibe lingered in the air during night time. The laptop lays on the bed, half open but dark. Probably dead. With everything else going on around her how could she have time to pay attention to her battery on all the electronics she owns? Yet still the bed look cozy against the wall and window, the candles on but obviously had been burning for a while. Shit. She should pay more attention to that, she’s not even allowed candles lit in residence! Yet there stood two three-wick candles from Bath and Body Works, lit with a photo of her younger self being embraced by her favourite person, her grandma. Her bed was made, surprisingly. She slept in it for most of the day and yet continues to deny that her depression is getting worse. An open book lit by yet another candle, lays on the desk next to her pillows. A lighter, a water bottle with a smaller bottle of acetaminophen behind the candle as if to hide the fact she pops pills often. A mirror with fake lashes from the weekend are beside it almost knocking into the lamp that lights up the corkboard on the wall. Only tags of inspirational stuff, appointments, reminders and calendar with notes of homework due. Another book lays near the front of the desk on the other side of the laptop cover. Against the wall are purple and green organizers lined up in every other colour. Her notebooks lay disorganized in a container on her dresser which is attached to her desk. All lined up, she felt it made the room feel bigger. Her closet was filled with all the clothes she wasn’t able to fit in her dresser. Pants lined up on the rack above where the shirts were being hung. On the ground, shoes of all kinds were scattered ‘neatly’ in a corner.

Her room is definitely cozy, warm, maybe overwhelming. A dark fuzzy purple rug lay on the floor next to the bed. A green stool, that was actually storage for more shoes was also next to the bed. Probably a lift to get on to bed when she was too drunk to get on the higher set bed orderly. Purple organizers laid under the bed with green bathing towels poking out of it. A gym bag, printer and garbage all seemed to also fit underneath the bed. Her bed was dressed in a purple comforter she picked up at Walmart so she didn’t have to use her brother bloody hand-me-down comforter. A green body pillow stands up at the head of the bed with a dark green round pillow laying against it. And the foot of her bed, there was another warm looking fuzzy item, however it was a blanket from Costco she took the whole trip convincing her mother it was worth the purchase. A brown, back pillow laid on top of the blanket, hopefully place strategically so when friends came they felt inclined to sit on her bed.

Her room was welcoming, the smell of all those candles filled the air. She got them all from her friend who worked at Bath and Body works. One was coconut, which at first, she was angry her friend would purchase a scent she knew she didn’t like. However, as she learnt to appreciate her friend more she also learnt to appreciate the smell of coconut. In fact, her body wash and moisturizer both had the scents of coconut. Nonetheless, the other candle was also given from that friend, it was a “warm apple pie” scent. The one that when you sniff it brings you back to Thanksgiving in your grandma’s kitchen. And of course, the candle on the desk was stolen from a recent visit to the mall with her friends. “Cactus Blossom”. Or whatever name they had at the time. It was fruity so along with feelings of summer but also comfort of family there was a fruity hue that lingered in the air when your breathed in.

Stupid girl. It was 2:10am, she had a midterm in a class where she has showed up two out of the four classes held. She hadn’t even studied. She planned on it, but that plan seemingly fell out of hand. Simply because she crawled into bed rather than sitting at her desk to complete her assignment. Thus, leading to her skipping two of her three classes today because she chose to sleep until 3pm. She was supposed to read a 306-page book for her Indigenous Literature class and write a book report about it. However, she slept half the day, ruining all her plans. Which then ruined even more when she sat in her buddy’s room for two more hours. She finally got around to reading the book around 6pm, only to find that it was a tough read because it held very heavy material. True stories about how all Canadians took children away from their families, stripping them of their culture, and forcing them to learn English. Sexual and physical abuse were normal in the schools and it was priests and nuns who were committing the crimes. Disgusting. There are even cases where children died, whether it was being starved, beaten to death or just illness. Sickening. She got maybe 3 quarters of the way before she headed to the gym with friends. It was a good work out, she doesn’t see any progress though, and is scared that means an eating disorder is developing. When she got back, she really wanted to spend some time with her friends, she quickly showered and headed to their room next door. That led to a whole thing and her coming back into her room past midnight.

Mercer @ EDC Orlando 2018

Hey everyone!  Yes, I am in fact still alive!  A lot has been happening to the guy behind The Big Gay Lion, and a lot has happened in the past few weeks for me as well!  PAUSE! This is a two part post. Yeah, I'm coming back in with the good content haha! Part one is here, and part two is there. Now that that's done, perhaps the most relevant news for the moment is the EDC Orlando 2019 lineup announcement that came last week on Night Owl Radio, and then the promotional imagery that confirmed the names we all knew from the broadcast.  Just in case I just happen to be the only line of news you have into the EDC world (I’m honored, by the way!), here’s that flyer below:

You may remember how jazzed I was with the 2018 lineup, as it was the best I had ever seen for our area’s event... this one, however, outdoes even that strong showing.  It always surprises me when artists make back-to-back appearances in Orlando, but it looks like we’ll be graced with the likes of Alison Wonderland, ADIN, Dombresky, Kaskade, and more... and no, Fury + MC Dino don’t count haha!  But, doesn’t this read like a “Best Of” for previous years?  Orlando hasn’t seen Afrojack in forever, since 2012!  Steve Aoki, Arty, and 3lau haven’t been around since 2014, and DJ Snake hasn’t been here since right after his car accident with Mercer in 2015 (remember that?)!  I’m also quite surprised that Deadmau5 is making an appearance, after all that heat he generated a few years ago with Pasquale.  I kinda figured REZZ was going to be what put Mau5trap back on Insomniac’s good graces.  I’ll let the big cat out of the big bag and give you some clues as to what I hope to post about in the future, and say that I was really hoping to get another shot at seeing Above & Beyond perform, and if I’m in the same mood as I’ve been these past few months, they’re going to be a must-see for me!   Also, I am SUPER excited to get the chance to see Charlotte de Witte, Da Tweekaz, and Nora En Pure, all for the first time!  I’m also eager to see Eric Prydz, Party Favor, Timmy Trumpet yet again (whoops, uh... spoilers!).  Finally, I’ve heard great things about EDX and Fisher from the guy behind The Big Gay Lion, so I’d like to be able to see them for myself!  I’ll be crossing everything I can from now until November that the set times don’t cause a large number of conflicts for me, but with one additional fixed venue / stage this year, that means one more opportunity for a schedule conflict... not to mention the unannounced boomboxARTCAR artists that Pasquale mentioned in his broadcast!  It’s a good problem to have, don’t get me wrong!

And before we get into this, the life of the guy behind The Big Gay Lion has gotten busier than it has been in the past, and I can’t promise I’ll be able to do weekly #TBT’s like I used to... but, the life of the guy behind The Big Gay Lion has made some things happen recently, and that’s going to mean some exciting stuff is on the way for me as a result!  Nothing to talk about yet, but I need to get going on sharing my life before any more life happens!  Is that cryptic enough for you?  Haha.  Now, how’s about we start out my grand revival of #ThrowbackThursday with my favorite set from 2018?  It’s time for Mercer!

Find this photo on Instagram | Find this photo on Facebook Photo by James Dechert, originally posted by Orlando Weekly So right when I got there and took my position in a conservative location within circuitGROUNDS, I noticed that some Insomniac videographers were nearby.  I figure I’d make myself not look busy in case they decided to put me in the 2018 trailer haha.  They did not approach me (but the cameraman could not stop staring!), but I did get approached by a random photographer.  As it turns out, I was feeling exceptionally good that day!  I was able to get ready in record time, and it resulted in me arriving at the festival earlier than I had ever arrived before!  I was very much looking forward to this set, and then... this photographer rolls up.  I didn’t have to adjust much to get ready for him to snap a pic, and when he walked away quietly, I just knew... I KNEW, “that was the one”.  That was the pic I was going to love the most from 2018... and just LOOK AT ME!  I look SO GOOD!  Yes, you can see how my necklace stretched out a bit on that one delicate spot between the “H” and the “@”, but my new hair is so much easier to dance with, that I went pretty hard on Day 1!  Don’t worry, it’ll be in tip top shape for Day 1 of 2019!  This pic shows everything, though... hair’s looking right, you can see my Pulse ribbon (which I always forget to wear!), my nails are looking good... I am a very proud lion! 🏳️‍🌈🦁❤️  Okay, okay, now on with the good stuff!

this is cringy but i used to go over to my friends house (i was 9 or somethin)  in her basement and we would get her bean bags, a mattress and these small chairs and put on rihanna’s songs (don’t stop the music was our fav), we would turn off all the lights and just dance around for HOURS it was so fun and we bustin some major moves

3. would you up and move by yourself somewhere else right now? where?
