I know I'm late to the party but I just blocked a bunch of people in the tag over this and I'm salty so listen I did not watch a compilation of top country music videos from 2023 on YouTube that for some reason had 'I Can See You' by Taylor Swift in it to hear actual country music fans say Beyoncé's 'Texas Holdem' isn't a fucking country song. The racism is insane all of 'Cowboy Carter' is 500% more country than anything TSwift has made since her first album and I say that as someone who initially liked TSwift because she was originally a country artist. You don't have to like Beyoncé's new album but if you say it's not solidly in the country genre you're just wrong. You are eobjectively wrong. I've heard fucking Tim McGraw songs that sound less country than 90% of the stuff on 'Cowboy Carter' and y'all are like "oh boo hoo it's not country" shut the FUCK up. Unbelievable.

Complexion: Tan
Eye Color: Blue Im so sorry
Faunus Trait: Monkey Tail
Occupation: Haven student, Junior Detective, Boy band lead singer
Previous Occuppation: Thief (wanted for arrest in 5 places)
Long ago in a distant land, there once was a clan of nomads that traveled the desert. On one of their travels, they found a crying rock. Wondering how a simple rock could make such a sound, the strongest of their number took his weapon and struck the rock with all his might! The rock was split in two, and inside was a baby monkey faunus that had been crying all along. Not knowing where the baby had came from, the nomads decided to keep the boy and raise him as one of their own. This is the legend of Sun Wukong.
The boy was the most free spirited and reckless child the nomads had ever raised. While the nomads had taught all of their children that theft was okay as long as it was done out of nessacity, such as stealing food when you are hungry, Sun would steal at every city the nomads visited for the thrill of the heist. Even more infuriating, Sun was never arrested no matter how many times he was chased by authorities, which seemed endless to the nomads.
However, Sun's nature would help the nomads. Whenever they needed food or money, Sun would be the first to provide for them. But in Vacuo, it is every person for themself. That is why, when the nomads are lured into a trap and made to choose between Sun or the whole clan, they make the only choice a Vacun could make in that situation. Sun isn't even angry at them, even if it's not what he would do in that situation. A learning expierence, really.
For three days, Sun rampaged in Vacuo city. He couldn't find a way to escape, so he would make it the problem of everyone person there. It was only when Yù yin, the oldest and most beloved Huntress in Vacuo, appeared was Sun finally stopped. Using her semblance, Yù yin "pacified" Sun, and he allowed himself to be arrested. Using Quake Dust, Yù yin sealed Sun inside a cage made of solid rock, to be cut off from the rest of the world forever... if Starr Sanzang, a member of Sun's clan, hadn't become a guard at the prison he was being kept in. Without telling anyone, even Sun, she made tiny cracks inside his stone jail.
After a year of captivity, Starr smuggled in a Dust necklace and gave it to Sun so he could escape. And he did. Away from jail, away from the clan that gave him up, and away from Vacuo.
At 17, Sun traveled west of Vacuo, past the dark lands, and into Anima. With no one knowing who he is, and owning nothing but the clothes on his back, Sun wondered if he could start over here. He could turn a new leaf, go to school like always wanted to, renounce his wild ways... on his 18th birthday, Sun broke into Vasilias Enterpises and stole the experimental weapon, Ruyi Bang Jingu Bang. Unfortunately, Sun was out of practice and got caught.
When Sun was finally arrested, he was greeted by Leonardo Lionheart. The academy headmaster gave him a choice, face execution, or enroll in Haven Academy as a reform program student. Sun made the only choice he could make in that situation, and he has been happy ever since.

Song of the Day: March 27
"Long Time Gone" by The Chicks
#song of the day#I'm still thinking about the Country Songs About Country Songs#this is actually a cover too though I never hear the original around anywhere#(it's by Darrell Scott who is also the originator for 'You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive'#turns out he's got a bunch of songs that got picked up and made somewhat more popular in the hands of other folks. an interesting legacy)#the best lines of this song to sing are also the bits About Country Music--well the whole song's about chasing the love of it#but this bit is bemoaning the kids these days you know. country music isn't what it used to be. why back in my day etc etc#it's so so so much fun to sing too because you get to exaggerate your 'I think's until they rhyme with 'Hank'. excellent work#'we listen to the radio to hear what's cookin / but the music ain't got no soul#now they sound tired but they don't sound Haggard / they got money but they don't have Cash#they got Junior but they don't have Hank / I think I think I think / the rest is a long time gone'#it's fascinating to me to think about these songs in (saying 'historical' here is giving me psychic damage but) historical context#because the Darrell Scott original for Long Time Gone came out in 2000 and The Chicks released their version in 2002#so they were talking about the trend towards American jingoism in country music of the time#versus like Waylon Jennings in 1975 'Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way'#(I typed that and /then/ went back and looked up the release date and I'm so proud I got it right)#already bemoaning the state of country music in the 70s versus good old classic country like Hank Williams Senior sang#(Hank Jr covered Waylon's song in 1981. like yes it's a tribute to his father but also Hank Jr was a big push towards outlaw country#and has a few pretty famous songs himself about not singing like his daddy did. it just seems a strange choice to me)#and then Eric Church put out 'Lotta Boot Left to Fill' in 2009 calling out the shallowness of the country music scene of the time#(talking some only-thinly-veiled shit about a few of his peers in the process)#and then he released 'Stick That In Your Country Song' in 2021 and that /definitely/ put some backs up#that one's a less directed but more direct call-out if that makes any sense#no lines that are direct references to other artists' songs but stronger sentiments overall#not just general 'y'all are getting shallow prioritizing good times and high sales over genuine heart and integrity of craft'#but some straight up 'you have forgotten the face of your father' shit towards country artists and fans alike. the whole industry#a very good righteous-anger song

Twists and Turns
I finished writing the end of a scene from Galaxy Federal tonight. For months I have had it in mind but hadn't mustered the resolve to write it. The middle part of the scene was already on the page, more or less (though with frequent small revisions). The beginning part of the scene, meanwhile, remains only partially written. But it's also its own, distinct thing compared to the middle and end parts, which flow together and act as one. Really they are two scenes within a single event.
Finishing a scene is much less common for me than starting one, especially when it comes to bigger scenes that got a big burst of writing done on them at the onset and then languished on the page over a long period with only incremental revisions to the existing text and very little of the remaining unwritten text attempted at all. So it's always nice to add major new pieces onto an existing scene and actually finish it (even if in this case the beginning of the scene is still unfinished).
Excluding the beginning part of the scene, the middle and end parts are just over six thousand words, twenty-five hundred of which I wrote today. My first work on the scene dates all the way back to August! And all those frequent little revisions to the middle part, which is the main bulk of the scene, mean that that part of the scene reads really nicely now. It's a Command Deck scene, so there's lots of Ship's Business: jargon and numbers and so forth. This novel bridges the gap between hard and soft sci-fi; it's actually all hard sci-fi, but dressed in a way that often appears very soft. But this scene is one of the ones that'll eat normies for lunch, lol.
Or maybe not! I'd like to think my writing's charming even when it's technical.

@akcboshi: [ BLEED ]:     sender’s nose begins to bleed as a direct result of them using their powers. - Shouta and Hizashi!
Powerful prompts
Tumblr media
While the two were teachers together, and both were pro heroes, it was actually rare that the two actually fought together. Hizashi had to be precise with his locations, while Shouta merely just preferred areas where the media wouldn't catch him. Very rarely did those locations line up.
He knows Shouta's limits, and the usual drawbacks. Dry eyes, headaches, less time per use as it becomes harder to not blink. But.. The nose bleed was a new one, and it worried the flamboyant blond immensely.
The battle was longer than it usually was; Hizashi suspected a quirk drug was used. Thankfully neither of them, nor any innocents, were seriously hurt- it was just difficult to finally get this guy pinned and in custody.
The moment, the very second the villain was in proper quirk-hindering cuffs and in the hands of the police, Hizashi put a hand on Shouta's shoulders.
Tumblr media
"Hey.. It's over. Blink, relax a bit. Let's get that checked out, okay?" His voice hurt from use, softened both to help ease it and his partner. His other hand reached for his handkerchief, bringing it up to the bloodied nose.
Was it his fault?

got any good country recs there mate? 👀
my computer crashed when i initially opened this ask im in hysterics
BOY DO I EVER THOUGH!!
mostly this is just music i like, so naturally there's the caveat of it potentially not being to your taste; on top of that some of these may be additionally or technically classified as rock, folk, and/or indie/alternative because music genres are...so nebulous and i do not understand them...and sometimes the results when i search for the genre of certain artists just dont make sense or dont apply to individual songs......
so im being a hefty bit generous in calling some of these country, but they do diverge from those typical Beer Truck God America songs that pop up when searching for country while having a similar or related musical style, and hopefully they'll be a breath of fresh air for you!
i put my personal favourites in bold :] these are not ordered in any particular sort of style categorisation so it's a little messy, but each should link to a youtube version of the song! theres a decent array of different styles and tempos here i think
The Devil Wears a Suit and Tie - Colter Wall
Sleeping on the Blacktop - Colter Wall
Johnny Boy's Bones - Colter Wall
Ballad of a Law-Abiding Sophisticate - Colter Wall (this guy again!)
really any Colter Wall song/cover i'm going to be honest
Raise Hell - Brandi Carlile
The Cremation of Sam McGee - Seth Boyer
In the Pines - Danny Farrant & Paul Rawson
Back from the Edge - Lord Huron
Meet Me in the Woods - Lord Huron
Pretty Lavinia - American Murder Song
Murder! Murder! - American Murder Song
Hurt - Johnny Cash
God's Gonna Cut You Down - Johnny Cash
The Railroad - Goodnight, Texas
Down by the River - The Dirty River Boys
Providence - Poor Man's Poison
Hell's Bells - Cary Ann Hearst
Before He Cheats - Carrie Underwood (this one's popular)
Blown Away - Carrie Underwood
Bad News - Whitey Morgan and the 78's
The Curse of the Fold - Shawn James
The Wicked - Blues Saraceno
Grave Digger - Blues Saraceno
Little Black Train - Woodie Guthrie (if you've seen Over the Garden Wall, you'll recognise this; it has different lyrics from the cover in OTGW though)
hopefully none of the links are broken or directing to the wrong song :'D happy listening, lmk if there are any particular songs you enjoyed! and if none of these work out, thats totally fine, everyone has their tastes of course
#inbox#anonymous#music#so much tag commentary incoming sorry im super scatterbrained AGDHSHGS#honorary mention is the crane wives theyre not country but their music is BANGIN and doesnt tend#to sound horribly out of place on country playlists depending on surrounding songs#my crane wives rec is scarecrow bones. listen to it. NOW#another honorary mention is do your worst by rival sons. more rock than country i think#part of why its so difficult to categorise country is that#a lot of songs that used to be considered rock are called country today#like johnny cash's music. thats all rock music. but by todays standards we'd consider that country#so rock & country go really hand in hand especially when you take into account their cultural origins (black musicians)#genre categorisation is so arbitrary to me and so so so so confusing when you get to overlapping music sounds 😭#so usually if something is called 'folk rock' or smth along the lines of folk i'll consider it country mostly depending on. vibes. tone. et#i grew up HATING country music bcs literally all i heard on country radios in texas was#trucks beer god america and the occasional woman. and it was sooooo annoying i thought all country music was like that#so i was one of those 'i like any music except country' kids#started listening to carrie underwood & later on stumbled into colter wall and boy did it turn my whole attitude around#poor mans poison is partly on here because my 9th grade teacher introduced it to me and i was like WHAT is that sound i love it#and he was like its good music. take it with you.#ANYWAYS thanks for stopping by i hope at least some of these pique your interest!!!!
