How are the conversations between the brothers about their original worlds? They compare? Or they just don't talk about it? Have you ever talked about how you got there (I don't know what the ship you're on is called) in the first place?

Thanks for the ask! I’ll start by saying the b.e.n.t AU is not mine, it’s @butterfilledpockets (here’s the AU Masterpost)

I just really like the AU so I doodle them from time to time in goofy or sometimes angsty situations

Any comparison of backstories or their arrival on the ship is a bit more story heavy, therefore, up to butter 🧈

Do you have any cool things to tell us about eastern box turtles?

There are a few things that make box turtles as a group pretty special. For starters, even though they're turtles, they are entirely terrestrial; they spend almost their whole lives on land and can't swim very well. Secondly, they're called box turtles due to their unique shells. In addition to being very high domed, the underbelly (or plastron) has a 'hinge' so that, when the turtle is frightened, it can pull its head and limbs in and close up its shell completely-- just like a box!

As for eastern box turtles specifically, they are the state reptile for Tennessee and North Carolina in the United States. They have an incredibly small home range, typically not more than a few square kilometers, but they have a very powerful homing sense and can orient themselves even when moved miles away from their habitat. Lastly, unlike many other turtle species, the best way to distinguish between males and females is by eye color! Males have bright red eyes, while females have duller brown eyes.

yesterday i got jumpscared at work by sudden bunny rescue operation, if anyone has bunny tips beyond the reddit intro threads thatd be deeply appreciated?

we're planning to bring the little guy to a rescue i trust if we end up being unable to provide for him, since finances are tight rnow. but we're gonna be holding onto him for a while either way since the rescue is far away and i want him to be comfortable in the meantime.

or yknow. if we foster fail id like to know some tips directly from people and not just via researching guides and forums, ik some things you only learn from experience

hey yall, which one of you turtles has the worst comedic skill? like, who makes everyone's eyes roll whenever they crack a joke (if they crack them at all)?

got inspired to ask this cause i had to think of when 2012 leo made the old mother hubbard joke LMAOAOOA. also, first time i'm sending an ask ever! nice.

He has to do a dumb one-liner or something any chance he gets. Which is almost always. And it's annoying!

You'd think for someone who makes jokes all the time, they'd at LEAST be good. But no! They're terrible! An absolute insult to humor!!

He's just... oh, how can I put this delicately... not good at jokes. As Don said, you'd think he'd learn better ones by now.

I love imagining your BENT turtles after finding out Donnie's ages.

On one hand, Leo would be whining to Donnie about Raph and Mikey being mean to him, since Donnie is technically the oldest.

On the other hand, Raph treats Donnie like the baby and like he's still tiny, because in his mind he is, and yells at anyone that so much as looks at him wrong.

And Mikey just watches it all in mild amusement.

Their dynamic is definitely a fun one! Totally agree that after talking about ages they would all change how they interact with each other a bit

My dad saw our local box(?) turtle this morning (just finishing crossing the road apparently), and I thought you might like to see the picture!

We see him/her every few years (like 2-4?? My memory is bad) for the whole time we’ve been living at this house (~18 years), or at least as long as I can remember, and it’s always lovely to see them! I thought their shell looked particularly beautiful this year, but maybe it’s just shiny because of the rain. (Still beautiful though.)

Wow! That is one beautiful and healthy-looking boxie! I believe he’s a male Eastern box turtle, one of the most visually appealing chelonians on this planet. What a gift to have such a cool animal as a neighbor in your area! The health of this species is sometimes used as an indicator of overall ecosystem health, so seeing a happy healthy turtle that has been thriving for decades is a very encouraging sign. His territory must have rich soil to support the bugs and plants he eats, and plenty of foliage for him to hide from predators. Glad he has managed to stay safe on the roads too.

Box turtles can live well over 30-50 years, so hopefully your family can continue to enjoy seeing this handsome friend for many years to come!
