Echoes of Courage: Chapter 12

So um... I haven't realized that it's been sometime since I posted a chapter here until recently, for that I do want to apologize! Life has been busy, haven't had enough time to continue writing, work has me stressed, then the holidays came! & to top it off, I CAUGHT A SINUS INFECTION! Other than that, I'm aiming to change my schedule around & get back to doing a lot more than just updating! I'm super excited & I can't wait to show you guys everything I've got going!

& with that, I hope you enjoy the new chapter!

It was about ten, close to eleven when Leo was first waking up. The first clue that he wasn’t home was the dark blood-red hair in front of him, with Valeria still peacefully asleep this late morning. Smiling softly, he lightly gave her waist a squeeze before slowly lifting it off her. Sitting up to lean over Valeria’s face, gently tucking her hair behind her ear, Leo gave her a quick kiss to the cheek before getting up, phone in hand while making his way to the living room. Turning it on, making sure none of his brothers needed him, started looking for food for the both of them. While ordering, Leo’s mind started racing from what he heard Valeria say on the phone to Izra last night. ‘Who could’ve hurt her so badly that she acted the way she did. And how deep did it cut for her to not believe this would happen for herself again?’ Being very quiet so as to not wake her, he peeked into Valeria’s room, checking to see that she was still fast asleep. 

‘I won’t let anyone or anything hurt you. That’s a promise.’  

Getting a quick idea, he opened a small portal, going to grab a few things.

Eleven thirty hit when Valeria started to wake up. Turning around, hoping to see Leo still in bed, was saddened when he wasn’t there, but quickly relaxed when she heard movement in her kitchen. Sitting up, she hadn’t even realized the light blue hoodie that she was wearing, wondering when he had time to even go home to grab it. Grabbing her pajama pants from under her pillows to put on while grabbing her phone, Valeria started making her way to the kitchen, slowly wondering what Leo was doing. Not realizing she was awake, his back turned towards her, dressed with her hoodie still on with gray sweatpants, trying to make either tea or coffee Valeria wasn’t sure, all she knew was that he picked two different mugs just for them. Looking down, feeling a little silly for not noticing the breakfast food on the table that was set for two people. Trying to calm her heartbeats down from the overwhelming feeling of love, happiness, cuteness? She wasn’t sure, but all she knew was that this turtleman had somehow remembered (she rarely ever ate breakfast at that too) one of her favorite breakfast foods, which was blueberry pancakes with raspberries on top with a small side of hashbrowns to add to everything else and it was doing things to her. 

‘Oh my god, my heart is going to explode. I love this man so much.’  

Were her thoughts before hearing him say something, “finally decided to wake up, huh?” Looking up, Valeria hadn’t realized that Leo had been staring back at her, smirking slightly while she was looking at the food for them. “Anyone would while wearing this hoodie, it’s so warm and comfy,” she teased, both knowing the real reason why she’d slept a lot better last night than previously. Walking over to the counter between the kitchen and living room, Leo handed Valeria the coffee he made for her. “Still trying to impress me here?” Valeria continued her teasing, smirking softly while slowly sipping her coffee with her elbows on the counter. “That depends, is it working?” He teased back, setting his mug down to slide his hands up her arms, pulling the hood to cover her eyes. “Maaaaybe,” while putting her coffee down, pulling the hood back down, Valeria smiled while staring at Leo who was doing the same thing. 

“See, as handsome as I am, I’ve been starving waiting for you to wake up, so let’s sit on the couch, find something to watch and eat,” Leo suggested, taking both plates in his hands, making his way to the living room. Rolling her eyes at his comment, Valeria grabbed both mugs, also making her way to the living room to eat breakfast with Leo. While getting ready to settle down next to him, it took her a second to realize that Leo had been staring at her the whole time again. “What? Is there something on my face?” She quickly put the drinks down to check if there was actually anything on her face. Chuckling at her urgency, Leo grabbed her hands before she made it to the bathroom to check her face, he pulled her closer to him. Valeria stood in between his legs while Leo held her hips, with her hanging her arms over his shoulders. “I love you. You know that, right?” “I know, I love you too. Is something wrong?” She tilted her head in confusion. “No, no, nothing’s wrong! I just…” He sighed, leaning his head on her stomach for a second before lifting his head up again to look her in the eyes, trying to get what his thoughts were earlier, thinking how to word them in the right way. 

“I want you to know… I’m not going anywhere . You’re it for me, okay? I’ll be patient to hear what you went through, good or bad, I don’t care.” 

Cupping her cheek, she nuzzled into it, smiling while her eyes were watering, “I will always be here for you, Val. No matter what,” he finished, feeling a lot better now with the statement said aloud for her to hear and understand. Nodding her head, Valeria leaned her forehead against Leo’s, giving him a soft kiss before pulling away to wipe her eyes, tears threatening to spill from them. “I was supposed to stop crying already, you jerk! You can’t say those things to me before eating,” she said, with Leo laughing at her reaction, hugging around her waist before getting her to sit on the couch with her legs over his thighs, grabbing their plates while he looked for something to put on the tv for them to eat breakfast in. Finally picking a show to watch while eating, Valeria leaned her head on his shoulder with him resting his head on hers, enjoying each other’s warmth, making up for the month they’ve both missed each other dearly.

It was one in the afternoon when Izra decided to wake up, luckily she had the day off from work for her to settle down the weariness and drowsiness from drinking last night. Groaning softly, slowly sitting up, she realized that Rai left her some water and pills to take for her incoming headache she may or may not receive soon. While taking the pills, drinking the entirety of the water bottle, she heard someone coming in the room, “hey sleepyhead. How’s my beautiful girlfriend feeling?” Rai came in and sat next to her, kissing her head before checking to see if she was still feeling warm from drinking all night. “Like I need more sleep than before. Did I do anything stupid? It’s like I remember but don’t remember, is that weird?” Softly laughing at the questions, he helped her up while trying his best to answer her, “well, you laid face first on the couch when I came over, then cried about possibly ruining or saving? Not really sure on that, but it had something to do with Val and Kira so it was something alright and then when I finally got you to lay down, you knocked out pretty quickly,” getting to the couch, Izra nodded to what Rai was saying, groaning again at the mention of Valeria and Kira, knowing exactly what drunk her was trying to explain. “Oh my god, I couldn’t even form coherent thoughts and still somewhat told you about what had happened beforehand,” while trying to find the remote to turn on the tv, Rai passed Izra her phone, opening up to see that there was a long voicemail from Valeria from last night.

“Oh god, what did she say in this?” “I don’t know, I had promised you we’d listen to it together when you sobered up.”

Smiling at the cuteness from Rai, making a promise to her drunk self, Izra waited for him to come back to the couch with any form of food to eat while they both listened to the voicemail. Seeing how long it was, Izra sighed out loud, mentally preparing for what was to come from the voicemail. “What do you think, will it be yelling or will it be apologizing?” Rai thought of it, pointer finger and thumb to his chin while sitting down on the couch, handing her a bit of noodles with chicken, he responded, “I think it’s an apology. She must have known you were only helping her out, right?” Nodding, Izra was still a bit skeptical, but pressed on the voicemail, putting it on speaker for both to hear.

The voicemail was a surprise for the both of them, but what surprised them even more was what Kira had texted in the three’s group chat, reading the screenshots she sent over.

Laughing at what was playing on the tv, Leo and Valeria were still cuddled together, Valeria sitting on Leo’s lap, back against his plastron while he had his arms wrapped around her, hands inside the front pocket of his hoodie. Hearing her phone ring, Valeria went to check to see who was calling her, grimacing slightly while looking at the caller id on it. She reached the remote to mute the tv, turning to Leo, “I’m going to pick up, don’t make any noise, okay?” Agreeing but concerned about what she meant, Valeria picked up the phone, embracing for whatever was coming from Izra. 

“Heeeeeey there friendo, how’s everything?”

“…THAT’S THE FIRST THING YOU SAY AFTER WHAT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT?!”

Valeria pulled the phone away from her ear, rolling her eyes at the dramatics that was Izra while Leo was trying his best to hold in his laughter. Both could hear Izra groaning, Rai in the background scolding her for screaming, due to her hangover. 

“ Listen, I didn’t mean to yell, it’s just, after that voicemail and those screenshots, I wasn’t sure how you were feeling or how Kira was or anything! AND YOU DIDN’T EVEN CALL FOR A FOLLOW-UP TODAY TOO! ” 

“ Babe please stop yelling or I will take your phone away. Your headache is going to get worse, also for the sake of my sanity too. ” 

A quiet “ow” could be heard from Rai before Izra continued, “ how are you feeling? Isn’t it wild what Kira said? I might need to call her too or see her, I don’t know- “ “Izzie!” Valeria interrupted, hoping to ease her friend the pain from screaming and her hangover. “I promise you I’m doing okay. More than okay,” feeling Leo place his chin on her shoulder, she smiled and gave him a peck on the cheek before anymore was said. “ Wait, after what I yelled at you for, your emotional voicemail and most likely self doubts, you’re okay? Just like that? ” 

“Yeah, just like that. I’m okay.”

“ …did you commit murder? ”

“Wha- NO!”

“ I mean, I’ll help you hide the body and all, even bail you out, but I guess- “

“I DIDN’T KILL ANYBODY! I’M ABOUT TO KILL YOU SOON!”

At that point, Leo hid himself in the couch, grabbing a pillow while trying so desperately to contain his laughter from this entire conversation. “ Then explain it to me! Because I feel like I am going to be getting more explanations from either you or Kira today! ” Very confused by that, Valeria decided to explain before asking anything else about Kira. “After my voicemail, let’s just say the guy and I had a really, really long conversation about everything and you know, one thing led to another and now we’re together.” “ So, is he still there? At your apartment? ” Looking over at Leo, still covering his face with a pillow, she smiled more, answering brightly, “yeah he is. Even fed me breakfast-“ “ oh my god, what must I bribe this man with that’ll get you to eat breakfast more often, ” “shut up!” 

Laughing at that, Izra was just glad that her friend was once again happy and together with the person she’s loved for a while. Finally.  

“So, I’ve said my peace, now what’s going on with Kira?” 

“ Oooooooh man, apparently we got fucking hammered last night ‘cause you’re not ready to see those screenshots she sent us… ”

A bit scared by that statement, before she could ask more, Rai had pulled the phone away from her. “ Okay, you’ve both had your conversations, now please, for the love of everything I hold dearly, rest yourself . Let Val get caught up in her own lover's arms anyways too, ” “Rai when I see you, it’s war.” Threateningly said, Valeria was going to say more but Rai only laughed, said their goodbyes and hung up the phone. Which was for the best because the second Rai hung up, Leo bursted out laughing, Valeria getting up to get water while he rolled around the couch in laughter. “Ya done now, silly guy?” After calming down, Leo nodded, wiping away the tears from laughter, sighing loudly before throwing both arms over the couch with Valeria sitting next to him. 

Before checking over her messages, turning to Leo to say something to him, he beat her to it, “we didn’t really say much about it, but are we going to tell everyone the truth? About us?” Surprised but expecting the outcome from everything, Valeria was thinking the same thing. ‘We do owe it to everyone that’s basically screamed for us to be together. But…’ Sighing out, tucking her legs underneath, she turned to Leo, an idea in mind. 

“We could tell everyone about us…” 

“I’m sensing an ‘or’ after that,” 

“OR we could keep this up, mess around with them and honestly,” she leaned against his arm, closing her eyes while continuing her thoughts, “the peace we’ve had, even before when we were messing around, had been incredible and do you hear what I deal with constantly?” Humming in agreement, raising his hand to massage the back of her head gently, “it would be nice to enjoy just us two, being together like this in peace and you probably feel the same way with your brothers.” Opening her eyes to look at Leo, hoping that he’ll say something along the lines of what she just said. Thinking it over, he rested his head against the couch, responding, “yeah, they won’t back off either. Especially after what happened yesterday…” Sinking his teeth in, Leo really thought of how everything would be from yesterday’s events to today. “Yeaaaaah, especially for that. Which is another thing to explain too,” sighing out, Leo stopped massaging Valeria’s head to grab her hand, he squeezed it gently before continuing, “I think we shouldn’t say anything until we feel whenever is the right time to tell them too. Agreed?” Linking their fingers together, Valeria leaned closer to lay her head on his shoulder, “I 100% agree. So it’s decided. And we figure out how to tell everyone we made up,” lifting his arms up, Leo exclaimed with too much enthusiasm, “of course! Now my charm will be even more of a show for everyone to see! They’ll totally buy it!” Valeria pulled back a bit, squinting while looking Leo in the eyes, “you’re so lucky you have a cute face to have somewhat get away with your lies and the small crimes you’ve committed.” He gasped at her comment, “awe, you think I’m cute? As you should! Now this calls for a celebratory make-out session! Get over here!” Making grabby hands, catching Valeria’s face, Leo started peppering her face with kisses, making her giggle in response before kissing her lips, with Valeria kissing right back. Remembering that there were screenshots to be read, Valeria pulled back quickly, ignoring the small whine that Leo gave to her, grabbing her phone and opening up the group chat. “Oh hush there, we’ll continue in a second! I have to read these messages!” Groaning but leaning back against the couch, Leo let her finish reading before continuing where they left off.

Once she was done, the loud screeching that came out of her was unholy, was what Leo could only describe it as, wincing on the couch while Valeria got up and walked around her living room, re-reading these screenshots over and over again.

“ KIRA, HOW MUCH DID YOU DRINK?! ”

The only thing Kira could feel at the moment was panic . She didn’t know what to do, re-reading the messages she drunkenly sent to Donnie last night, absolutely looking like an idiot to herself.

And apparently drunk Kira had decided to make it even better by sending it to her group chat with Izra and Valeria, as well as April. ‘I don’t want to go anywhere, this is embarrassing .’ Kira didn’t know what to think or do, hoping to anything or anyone above that Donnie in fact didn’t read the text messages she sent (but somehow getting the feeling he did in fact read it). Getting up to try to at least salvage the rest of the afternoon while curing the headache from her hangover, her phone started ringing, which made her panic even more. Taking a deep breath, bracing herself to see who was calling, letting out a huge sigh of relief when it read April’s name. Kira picked up the phone as carefully as possible. “Hi April…” 

“I’m going to say sorry now since you’re recovering from last night, BUT WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL KIRA?! HOW MUCH DID YOU DRINK TO TEXT DONNIE THAT?!”

Wincing at her screaming over the phone, Kira decided to sit on her couch, quietly searching for something to watch on her tv. “April, I don’t even know how I got back to my apartment, you think I’m going to remember how much I drank? Let alone text Donnie that of all things?!” Sighing out, taking medicine while drinking some calming tea to nurse her hangover, waiting to hear what April had to say about the situation she put herself in. “Oooo you really got so drunk that you don't remember anything, that’s something new I’m finding out about you, which I’m adding to the list by the way. But, how do YOU feel reading what you texted him?” Not expecting that question, Kira couldn’t help but answer honestly to April. “I might’ve not remembered texting him that, but what I said was true. I do miss him. I miss when we used to hang out just the two of us or all three of us would go on our little adventure or he would ask for help getting parts in the junkyard or just simply talk either in his lab or on the phone. I don’t know what he’s told you, but he really only does send either training videos or recipes for teas or any flowers of such and while I appreciate it, it’s just….. Not the same. And I hate it,” not realizing that she started tearing up, Kira quickly wiped her eyes, trying not to cry and get too emotional to April. “Kira, you REALLY need to think over this whole relationship with Roger! Hanging up the phone, Kira knew she had to at some point tell Donnie how she really felt about him. How or when she didn’t know, but there was somehow still a part of her that wanted to just keep it a secret still. But for what? The friendship that was great until this guy came along that didn’t give two shits about anyone but himself and now it’s suddenly short again? Like when they first met? Kira wouldn’t have that. She needs Roger to come back soon so she can give him the news and she can make up with Donnie and everyone else too.
