To finish our group project we decided how the beads needed to be laid out together in the lobby and then strung with a rope.
Tumblr media
The necklace ended up being at least 30 feet long, so it was decided to change it to two Unwearable pieces where we hung it one over the other laying it on a plinth
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was a very enjoyable project to work on in the time frame of one week/ 7 working days from receiving the brief to the final hanging stages. I would equally have loved to engage in a longer period of time to find out how else it may have developed.

Combining disciplines
sculpture and ceramics
Attempting a little refinement on my combined print on ceramics workshop with Tutors Elaine (ceramics), Mary (ceramics) and Fiona (print)
From our original rolled out slabs, I decided to dry my slab in a circular shape. I want to make this piece into a stand alone sculptural structure as I am discovering through ceramics that clay can embody the fluidity of water through its Plasticity making it quite a versatile element to continue exploring.

Week 2 Sculpture Elective
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Attempting my first draft at the “Chain reaction “ movement brief.
I will need to rework my ideas , this was not a task I completed in a day. I didn’t manage to get my ball to roll down the ramp successfully consistently.
This task was not something I felt anyway comfortable with, it was hard to keep it simple as many moving parts are required within a small scale and a short time to design.
Back to the drawing board with this one.

Continuing with the development of designing clothing in the fashion elective after taking inspiration from the ever moving element of water, we had to narrow down our designs to 6 pieces which we must continue to develop with color and texture.
This is a video of primary research from a local river.
I tried to capture the surf and undulations of the water into some of my designs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We will be choosing one main design from the 6 pieces above. I will continue to redesign these perhaps and play with colour and materials.

In keeping with my Temporary project development, I spanned off in several directions linking temporariness to my first Mayfly/lifecycles concept.
Eating food is quite fleeting temporariness about it as we move from meal to meal to snack to meal , a cycle all of its own. I wanted to link together my exploration of Lifecycles through CIRCLES and CYCLES thus reflected in these very satisfying empty plates of food.

Life cycles through circles as the Moon
AS part of my Temporary project I'm figuring out how to incorporate the circular /cyclical nature of LIFECYCLES through Circular representation.
In these cropped images I have turned some of mayfly wing photographs into circles to represent the lunar moon cycles in our daily lives.

A life cycle of anything is never going to be a perfect circle of experience, when life breaks down, situations occur that interrupt the events of the day. Within the Mayflys 24 hour cycle of existence many occurrences may inevitably happen to him despite his instinctual drive that compels him to procreate as soon as he is born.
The same is true for us as we are driven in our existence to go about the activities that spur us into action wherein we discover many unexpected , unplanned event can arise which causes our path /cycle to be not so linear or straightforward in itself.
Hence I see this reflected in my images of these broken ceramic pieces. I aim to bring these pieces back together again to reflect that cycles will imperfect even break but in nature they strive ultimately to continue on and will find a way to maintain a cycle of continuation amongst degradation and brokenness and imperfection.

The next stage as my temporary project develops is the continuation of lifecycles within the influence of the MOON CYCLES. This is a subject that interests me. The manner of which a direct affect the moon has on nature, time, the ocean, peoples moods, female reproductive cycle, how we in reality have a 13 month calendar not a 12 month calendar.
The Moon has a 28 day cycle.

This is some of my sketched workbook study on the Moon as I research its patterns and movements through the various types of Moon lunation's that occur throughout the year.

WEEK 8 | Digital Fabrication Workshop
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I attended this workshop in order to advance my temporary project. I am planning to make a large sculpture of the Mayfly wings. I love the burn result from laser cutting the wing, this was a prototype on a small scale to figure out how the uneven pathways would turn out.
The degradation pattern result of the wing displays my over arching theme of the infinitum of life cycles as we/insects go through many variant potentials of changes during a life cycle, impermanence, imperfection, durability, brokenness and yet continuity.
Tumblr media
As part of the workshop I also created this footprint cutout which is to inform the next progress stage of the development of my temporary project work.

ARTIST Research | Temporary
I like the idea of catching a moment , motion or stillness in time , its halting the object in space an act of Temporaryness.
I especially find the dramatic , theatrical suspension capturing this moment for us to stay present on in contrast to our days being full of thousands of Temporary moments.

New and Final results
A number of my pieces were de-constructed , re-used in a second exploratory piece and re-fired at a higher temperature over 1000 degrees.
Tumblr media
The results are different with such a vibrant popping of the colours.
Even though I like the softness of the first result, its great to see the difference with just a higher firing and also how much harder the material becomes.

While I was investigating how I wanted to layer with spices to create a visually interesting sculptural piece, I returned to one of the first practices we learned in ceramics elective workshops of using paper to create the structure first before we moved to clay.

CLAY + Narrative of the senses
Ceramics Elective 2nd project.
For this second project we have been tasked to create a piece of clay which represents our experience of the 5 senses.
SMELL
TOUCH
SIGHT
SOUND
TASTE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I choose to go with the striking SIGHT of SPICES.
To collect my first primary research I went to the local Indian/Asian foodstore and took some images of spices and colourful vegetables.
I also bought some spices and brought them home to begin studying them for my next piece.
Tumblr media
Fresh Coriander.
Its hard to stay on track with just one of the senses as the SMELL and TASTE senses are all stimulated through the sense of SIGHT.

Typography
Seminars Pat 1 /2
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
CRAIG WARD.
My first thoughts about Typography were how linked it is to Print. It is a entirely modernised way to express ourselves and has the power to leave quite an impression on us.
TYPE has evolved into an art form of its own. It has become influential as part of our every day experience of art and design within modern culture.
When I think of Typography and its prominence in our everyday lives I imagine how advertising and marketing has perfected the use of successful type in branding.
