"'m tr'g." And the truth was that Whumpee was trying. They were just so tired. And their body was so heavy. It would be just so easy to close their eyes. So easy to slip into sleep.

"Open your eyes, Whumpee." Caretaker's voice sounded so far away.

Whumpee blinked heavily. Their face was hot. They had to be close to the fire. "S'ry."

"It's ok, Whumpee. Just stay awake. We're almost out of here. Just one more room from what I can remember."

"Mmmm," Whumpee hummed. They realized their eyes were closed. They couldn't see the fire. But they could feel the heat. Could hear the crackling of the building going up in flames around them.

"None of that, Whumpee. Just stay with me. Tell me a story. Something funny."

"Can't. 'm tttttiredddd." Even their mouth felt too heavy to move.

"Come on, Whumpee. Come on." Whumpee barely felt Caretaker's arms tighten around their middle. Barely felt Caretaker pull them along. But they had to stay awake. For Caretaker.
