apparently today is webcomic day (who decides these things?) so i thought i'd highlight some under-appreciated webcomics that i love (they're all queer, because that's always high on the list of what i look for in fiction)
no links, because i want it to show up in the tags, but these are very easy to find with a quick web search
Buuza! by Shazleen Khan is set in an alternate history world with a blend of modern tech and fantasy elements, in an empire based in the arabian peninsula. genre-wise it's slice of life, but several of the characters are also tied up in politics, so it certainly touches on wider drama in the world. the characters are complex and rich, and the worldbuilding is fascinating without detracting from the character-driven narrative.
@twelvefifteencomic by Zelazny, an amazing urban fantasy adventure story set over the course of a single night. this is a fanwork of a music video, of all things, and zelazny has done an amazing job of taking a 3 minute video and expanding it into an engaging and fun story. tw for mentions of (past) suicide. this is complete, but there is apparently a sequel in the works.
Finding Home by @haridraws is a beautiful and at times heartrending slow burn fantasy romance. themes of depression and (past) abusive relationships are an important part of the story, just as fair warning. it is very close to finishing (i've actually read the end because i have the books, and the ending does not disappoint).
White Noise by @thephooka is one of those stories that makes me want to devour every bit of information about the world it is set in (and @tape-hiss does fulfil some of that desire). don't get me wrong, the characters and story are incredibly engaging, but it's rare to see a world so richly imagined. the story itself is about losing everything and finding new things (as well as old things you thought you'd lost), and about liminality, and about making change. the primary antagonists are slavers, so the story does engage repeatedly with the violence of slavery. arc one has just finished, with an epilogue in progress, and a second and final arc is planned.

It’s the pipeline between “What’s the point of being a doctor if I can’t save you?” “Heal yourself” to “I’m fine because you fixed yourself” for me.

those kids are lucky that fifteen spent that long even trying to get them to change their minds bc thirteen would've been like 👍 and dipped after the first refusal

now that my friend pointed it out i cant stop thinking about the design of the tardis in the tv movie because 1) it was gorgeous but 2) that was a home. that was his home. he had a chair to lounge in and a record player. seeing the tardis in the tv show, that one huge console room, bigger on the inside and yeah, it’s impressive but it’s functional. (i’m assuming this is a budget thing, because it would probably be extremely impractical to have the kind of set they put together for the tv movie for every episode of an actual show lmao.)
there’s just something so. i think it’s the first time i’ve really looked at the doctor in the tardis and thought, right, he lives in there. rather than it just being his car. it is very funny to think of the doctor as a guy living out of his shitty van, but no, the tardis can be a home. it can be warm and comfy and full of knick-knacks.

i get people saying it does ncuti a disservice to have to share his first episode as the doctor with tennant instead of the traditional passing of the torch, but i think it's a testament to his talent that he never once feels like he's playing second fiddle to THE most popular doctor of the modern era. he owns the screen from moment one. he doesn't need to be passed the torch, he took it himself and ran with it, and i feel like that's very fitting from what we've seen of his doctor so far

Seriously, the Doctor just has a Thing for people who threaten/try to kill them:
The Master. No elaboration needed.
Jamie held the Doctor at knifepoint when they first met.
Turlough was sent to kill the Doctor.
I haven't read the EDAs but apparently Fitz goes on this list.
River Song was sent to kill the Doctor.
Rogue nearly executed the Doctor after mistaking him for someone else.
Conclusion: All the best Doctor ships have a threat of violence at the beginning.

If I had a pound for every time the Doctor failed to respond to a young blonde companion telling him they love him...
But in all seriousness, this breaks my heart. He breaks my heart.
The Doctor has such a large capacity to love, and he does so to the very depth of his entire being. And yet, he cannot comprehend or accept that he is worthy of such love. And because of this, and of course the inevitability that he will lose those he loves, he cannot bring himself to say those words back. He just hopes that they know.
Also, the way Ruby looks at him as she says it, and the Doctor gives a slight smile while not looking at her, gives me real flashbacks to the time Clara told the Doctor this, while on the phone to Danny.

Not sure this makes sense given time lords' attitude towards gender, but...
