My Twitter's currently jank at the moment (people can't see my posts there T-T), for reasons that I explain better and in more detail in a News post on Newgrounds, Thus I'm making Tumblr my main platform for the time being.
In the meantime, look at the boi, he do be groovin. I tweaked his head sprite a little bit.

TYBW Anime Ep. 3 vs the manga - SPOILERS
Tumblr media
Bleach Twitter has been talking a lot about the pacing of the anime as opposed to the manga and the things that are being skipped.
Even though no one has asked for it, I want to lay out my own opinions on the matter in a forum that isn't limited to however many characters.
If you haven't read the manga, you might want to ignore this post. I intend to talk about spoilers for the end.
So one of the things that happens in both the anime and the manga in this section/episode is that Kubo-sensei lays out his THEME for this entire arc.
Tumblr media
As the very groovy Aizen look-alike explains, the answer to the question "Are we on the side of justice?" is very clearly: "No." This will likely end in subjugation--one side will dominate the other, by brute force, not because it's just or right
Later on the same page/in the same scene, prayer bead wearing Aizen look-alike explains that wars only happen because both sides are right (and by implication also both wrong.)
Thus, what bothers me about the missing scenes, namely the lieutenant's meeting, is that one of the things that's revealed there is that Shinigami killed civilians to maintain the "Balance."
In the anime, Mayuri explains it to Yamamoto, but we don't see the evidence laid out in the same way--and that takes some power away. This is kind of a moment that could be read with a certain amount of horror because these civilians were not only unarmed, but also BAREFOOT. These were the poorest of the poor and an armed garrison of trained Shinigami literally rounded them up and slaughtered them on the orders of a 12th Division captain who has the authority to do so without the express permission of the Captain-Commander.
This is a moment.
A big one.
It's a moment where we see the cracks in the foundation of the Soul Society as "good guys." (Arguments can be made that they showed these cracks earlier, but this is the first time Kubo-sensei is being this blatant with his dystopia. He sets out the lieutenant's meeting and then literally allows a character to say, "hey, if we did genocide before, are we the good guys??" and have the answer be explicitly, "mmm, no, not really, but neither are the Quincy.")
So, I was excited when we seem to start to get more Ishida (younger and elder) on screen in the anime. I was very hopeful that we might see some of the Quincy side of the story, which was very much missing from the manga. Like, as the manga readers know, Ishida (younger) appears to join this side and one presumes there is a compelling reason for that, though we only know vagaries about what happened 200 years ago when the Quincy failed to meet the Shinigami demands and the Shinigami wiped them out almost to a man.
This is not being hit very hard in the anime.
More time was spent in the anime watching Juha Bach/Yhwach being a creep to his underlings which just makes the Quincy seem as insane as their master/king. Likewise, we got almost every blow by blow of Ichigo's fight with Nazi-haircut Quincy, which again, only serves to make the Quincy seem insane rather than justified in their anguish... which really they should be. (See Mayuri and Ishida fight in the rescue arc, where Mayuri explicitly states that he's not interested in this so-called last Quincy because he's already had his fill of torturing them and extracting information about them due to this last war.)
I'm glad they gave Ishida more screen time, but most of it was useless. Like, honestly, a flashback to the Mayuri fight would have been more powerful, IMHO, and requires no extra writing/drawing. Ishida's hunting for information about the Quincy's past and then us, the viewers, only getting the voice over of the exact same information that groovy Aizen-look-alike gives didn't feel worth the animation hours. Perhaps, you're thinking, but, Junko, they can't just make stuff up! Yeah, they can. Kubo-sensei is consulting, That means they're paying to put his name on the screen, as having approved of this whole thing. They could have asked him to write three sentences for Ishida to have read that fit whatever his vision is for the Quincy side of the story.
And again, I wouldn't harp on this, but this is literally the episode that SETS UP THE ENDING. Like it or not, Kubo-sensei told us he was going to end on a downbeat, with the Quincy subjugated and destroyed and no sense of justice. It's right here. IN THIS EPISODE. We should see the horror on the faces of the Shinigami who are suddenly made aware that they are complicit in not only genocide of the their hated enemy the Quincies, but also of the people they ostensibly protect in the Rukongai.
THAT would underscore the idea that there is no justice in war. Both sides has war crimes to answer for. We've seen Juha being crazy, we need to see the dark underbelly of the Soul Society.
And let me be clear. Kubo did not do this perfectly in the manga. Anyone who knows me knows that I had a LOT of problems with how this arc played out in the end. I had been hoping, however, that the anime could have been an opportunity to condense some of the endless fight scenes and give this story the backbone that Kubo laid down, but never built up.
Alas.
Also, am sad we never got grumpy (or thinking face??) Renji at Sasakibe's funeral.
Tumblr media
Also, they skipped on the usual Kubo signature post-death scene where we learn about Sasakibe, his fierce loyalty to Yamamoto, and how he used bankai for the first time in battle only to die.
So, if you love Bleach for these kinds of character moments, the anime seems to be skipping them in favor of the protracted battle scenes, which... I mean, I love fighting anime? I would be lying if I said I wouldn't be happy with an entire 52 episode run of Ichigo just yelling "bankai" and "Getsuga Tensho" over and over!! So, I mean, I don't HATE the anime by any stretch. I'm just a fan fic writer who loves Kubo-sensei for his liminal spaces, his in-between moments.
And so far the anime is light on those.
I'm still deeply pleased to see it happening at all, however.

Against Talking, For Sharing Bathrooms
alright despite three paragraphs of my first draft getting deleted i will Bravely begin again
(Prescript: tumblr has marked this as “mature.” is it because of the word bathrooms? do they think I’m advocating for gay sex? scholars remain divided.)
scene: beautiful, not-quite-lazy not-quite-spring saturday. what else is a girl to do but go out dancing? i’d already missed a great party, perverse, the night before. frankly i expected it to be kinkier than a bunch of gay guys in jockstraps, but who else would pay $40-50 for a night out? or who else could? instead I’d spent the night trying to fit a very nice and hairy boy’s monster cock inside my designer pussy.
what was i talking about? right, dancing. the first thing i saw on RA looked good: A/S/L? at Neptune Room, hosted by Associate. A bar and a DJ I wanted to check out what could be better? I rotated a thousand outfits in my mind, landing on a slutty White Lotus guest look.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Whenever I go to a new bar or venue, I go straight to the bathroom so I can assess the pee situation and begin a preliminary vibe analysis. All gender bathroom? good sign. matrix on the TV? Also a good sign but points towards a nerdy clientele. as I started looking at everybody else in the bar I noticed one mean trans girl I know from around everybody else seemed… can I say this without sounding rude? Very 30- Somethings-bisexual-practicing-ethical-non-monogamy-coded. There’s nothing wrong with being that; I have a wonderful coworker who fits the description. However, not necessarily the group I most want to get down with or that I think will be the most fun to dance with. Unfortunately, my prejudices were right.
I pee, I down a gin and tonic, and I shuffle my way to the teeny tiny dancefloor. Like, illegal basement Bushwick apartment bedroom. On a dancefloor that cramped, real dancers need every inch of real estate they can get it. So why was it filled with people standing there talking? As an empath, I get that not everybody wants to dance — however, the dance floor has a purpose, and if you don’t wanna dance, make space for the real dancing divas. Especially with music that’s supposed to be groovy as the party was billed! House, six different flavors of disco. hat is things and then switch to groove to die. Even punks need room to skank, and techno bros need room to move like those musical cactuses from animal crossing. Just putting it simply: if you don’t wanna dance, get off the dance floor, you can stand to the side or sit somewhere. Or fuck off! I’m not your mother.
Obviously, the crowding annoyed me to no end. So I get on Twitter and start complaining. This turns my night around. Ms. Gabberbitch69 told me come to Suns, a small theater frequented by film bros and film hoes where DJ Michelle Harvey was throwing For Your Pleasure, an Italo disco party. I chew on this, go to the bathroom again to take pictures (because I looked fucking good!). Aside from that, the only thing that’s really been a plus for me was a house cover (?) of a Björk song (Leash Called Love by the Sugarcubes) which frankly was the only reason I stayed as long as I did. When I came back to the dance floor people were at least two-stepping, so I thought I might stay for a while, but then simultaneously three different heterosexual looking couples started making out. When I saw that, I closed my tab and got my white ass out of there.
A 10 minute drive and 30 minute parking adventure later, I roll up at Suns. I knew it would be good when I walked in and felt the temperature rise 30 degrees. Both floors were absolutely packed, so I put in my time waiting at the bar, one eye on the bartender wearing a top surgery scar tank. After my G&T is drained, I squeeze into a spot on the dancefloor and groove in my allotted half-square-foot of space. Some Japanese movie about… magical cats?… is being projected on the wall behind the DJ. It’s stunning. I don’t think I’ve intentionally gone dancing with a crowd that straight since the last time I went to Fl@sh (censored as to not invoke its demonic energy), but it was still a good crowd! I felt slightly out of place as one of five people dressed slutty but I made it work. The music was exactly as described: so 80s people should be doing coke off the tables.
(Okay coming back to this a month later I’ve dragged on far too long, lemme finish this)
I spent the rest of the night partying as I know how: dancing until I neared heat exhaustion, running outside to chat with friends of friends and friends to cool off, debating getting one more drink, sharing a bathroom and a bump with a man i was flirting with whose mouth unfortunately tasted too foul to continue anything with. The last DJ of the night closed with “Waking The Witch” by Kate Bush, a song I hadn’t listened to since starting SSRIS. So unexpected and dreamy.
Was I going somewhere with any of this? Not sure. Looking forward to the next For Your Pleasure though!

There’s really not a lot I want to say about American sniper. The film isn’t very good, and I think it could’ve used more of a propaganda spin to actually make it worth something. I say this despite my extreme deference to Clint Eastwood, who is not a bad director for as much as this and Gran Torino would have you believe otherwise.
This film isn’t NOT a pro-US military film, to the point that its patriotism feels discordant when contrasted with the message about the war that the film pushes to us.Even so, despite the assertion that Chris Kyle is a patriotic man and doing it for his country, there is very little sign that the combat in Iraq is really worth it. In fact, despite a sniper battle with a shadowy Syrian Marksman who is followed by a slowed-down gunshot SFX anytime he comes onscreen (this movie won an Oscar for sound editing?) and the figured referred to as “the Butcher,” there’s not much about the US occupation that isn’t truthfully portrayed as an imperialist invasion. I miss when military propaganda got to glorify all sorts of awful things and you just kind of sat back and enjoyed it. Top Gun was a return to form, I suppose, but I can’t say I really enjoyed it as a war film any more than American Sniper’s more truthful portrayal.
The portrayal has limits, though. In what feels like a calculated political move, Eastwood focuses the script so tightly onto Kyle’s character that there is no room to examine the larger story behind any of the events taking place in the film. The entirety of the anti-war message is wrapped up in the impact it’s had on the lives of those deployed. Any extra-antiwar messaging comes from the bleak reality of the war beyond the screen that leaks through the sealed bubble that the narrative keeps Kyle in. It’s a character-focused drama, with extra focus coming from Kyle’s tragic death and the heavy scrutiny that his tribe held the production of the film under. With that considered, no wonder there isn’t room to criticize the invasion of Iraq. For the purpose of this story, Kyle is just a guy saving the lives of his men, a sniper watching over them.
I recall when the movie came out and people on twitter got sad about seeing a movie with an American flag in it, seeing a specific post. I don’t recall the exact wording, but the general sentiment was that only America would invade a country, then come back years later to make a film about how the invasion made its soldiers sad. For as pithy as the comment was, it feels artistically reductive. Making films on the inhumanity of an inhumane war, from the standpoint of someone who should be lauded as the hero of said inhumane war should not be viewed as artistically unthinkable.
This is doubly important when considering the premise of the movie lies in Kyle’s realization that his urge to serve his country and help people is better served in civilian life than killing on the battlefield, despite his legend status. The fact that the story was patterned to appeal more to the Navy Seals Are Cool Call of Duty-playing crowd does not eliminate the core messaging here. Especially when that core messaging had Kyle ending combat on a distinctly sour note. But sure, restricting what sort of art should be made is like, very groovy of you.
What dooms this movie isn’t so much the fact that it happens to be about a man who loves his country, as much as the terrible production. The film is shot in digital, which renders shots of iraq flat and washed out (not helped by the color grade) while the shots of America are also flat and washed out, but feel like pre-prepared sets rather than real locations (not helped by the color grade). Everything is artificially sharp and left alone in the light with no assistance from the benevolent blur of film grain. Such is my complaint with early digital cinema, maybe I’ll come to love it one day.
Some of the worst parts of the production were the pre-production embellishments to the story. The Syrian sniper story arc felt cheap and sensationalized, but the first kill sequence was the second worst part of the film for me. Though I understood the need to showcase what a lose-lose situation the war was, sensationalizing the hero of the story by making him shoot a child (which never happened) felt preachy and heavy handed. Frankly, the script could’ve used some work.
“The second worst part of the film?” you ask. “What was the very worst?”
See, the worst part is that I was gonna end this post with a reflection on how an Iranian official once commented that the USA only has no war heroes, only comic book heroes, and opine on if that was overall a good thing or a bad thing. But no, instead I’m ending it by talking about that baby.
The baby. That’s the worst part of the film. That blasted fake baby.

Autorub’s Artistic Evolution: The Miss Mace Mixes (432hz) Singer-songwriter Michael Corn, also known as the mastermind behind the music project “Autorub” combines indie rock, soul, and pop in a way that is distinctly his own. The musical genius recently released this hypnotizing two-song EP called ‘The Miss Mace Mixes (432hz),’ the mesmerizing, ‘Miss Mace 432Hz,’ and the electrifying, ‘Electronic Dance Mace 432Hz. ’ This, together with fun and groovy melodies that characterize most of the songs, might be the reason why Autorub’s tracks are so different from the vast majority of other tunes. But that is not all – the EP is in 432Hz key, a frequency, which is said to put out more of a natural and harmonious sound when compared to the traditional tuning of 440Hz and it gives Corn’s excellent music even more insane richness. The man behind the magic Michael Corn has been involved with the bands such as sammy and heydevils and has also incorporated music in famous television productions such as pawn stars and duck dynasty. Considering such a powerful background, it might be explained by autorub’s further evolution as an artist therefore creating an atmosphere of such a unique mix of musical genres. During the interview, Corn discuss his work, ideas, and experiences of the filmmaking process and obstacles faced throughout his career. He also shares with the reader his vision of how Autorub will look like in the future. Prepare for a marvel of creativity and music with this extraordinary artist. Listen to The Miss Mace Mixes (432hz) https://open.spotify.com/album/5glvw3Goy0nWDsfH45zIpc Follow Autorub on Twitter Spotify Instagram Soundcloud Tiktok Youtube What is your stage name? I don't really have one.  I considered MIC Drop, but then a boy band had a recent hit with that title. MIC are my actual initials so there's that. Is there a story behind your stage name? If I had one, the story would be that I often leave people with a MIC drop moment, as I confront them on their own BS. Where do you find inspiration? It could come from anywhere.  If we're talking about writing lyrics, since I generally write about silly politicians, it's mostly news stories and posts on social media. Musically it's pretty wide open.  An inspiration could come from something I like about another piece of music, or sometimes it's fueled by just doing something different than the last piece I wrote. What was the role of music in the early years of your life? I was definitely drawn to it early  - maybe 5ish. As a role, I'd say it mostly served to prepare me to do what I do.  So lots and lots of shedding.  Far more than the 10,000 hrs I think, but who's counting? Are you from a musical or artistic family? Yes - it was on my mom's side of the family.  She was a great artist who also played some piano and sang a bit, my aunt played lots of piano, and my grandfather played guitar as well. Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry? I can't boil it down to any one person. It was something I was drawn to pursue from very early on.  Some things are just meant to be. How did you learn to sing/write/to play? It was a combination of taking piano lessons, and self teaching. While I did have some instruction on composition with one of my piano teachers (had a few over the years), the process of writing good songs is mostly trial and error for most composers I believe. I also used to play along with my records - I've heard of many musicians who practiced that way. What was the first concert that you ever went to and who did you see perform? It was probably Billy Joel. I actually don't remember too much about the show...although I think he might've jumped off the piano and slightly injured his ankle. Didn't stop the show or anything. How could you describe your music? It's fun, addicting, melodic, mostly rock (but other genres too),  polished but still rebellious, and somewhat sarcastic. Since most songs are mini portraits that call out various politicians on their BS, they are also modern day protest songs.
Describe your creative process. As to the music, it's pretty much as simple as pick up any instrument and just play something. See what comes out, and if it's anything I like at all, then I'll record it quick onto the phone to save it.  Used to be a boombox years ago. For lyrics for Autorub, I will generally research the politician's online bio, social media posts etc, kind of doing a little book report on them in order to write about them. I look for hypocrisy, and it's not hard to find. [caption id="attachment_55991" align="alignnone" width="1831"] As to the music, it's pretty much as simple as pick up any instrument and just play something.[/caption] What is your main inspiration? Just to keep doing fresh things. When one song is finished, I'm ready to do something different. It's every artist's journey to keep discovering and reinventing themselves - or else they're not on it. What musician do you admire most and why? Hmm...this takes some thinking because there's many and I don't tend to idolize. I'm gonna go with Paul McCartney  - or Sir Paul I should say.  His catalog is filled with many iconic songs that are all quite melodic, if there's one common thread. So many generations, including mine, have grown up with his music and it's set a standard of excellence in songwriting, including his Beatle bandmates.  He showed us growth and experimentation as a songwriter in going from "Love Me Do" to say..."Helter Skelter" in a few short years. He also set good examples in how he raised his children - without allowing them to be spoiled by the means he'd gained. And he sums up the message of the Beatles as spreading love, which is an important vibe for the whole planet - especially right now. Did your style evolve since the beginning of your career? Yes definitely.  As I mentioned earlier, you have to keep reinventing.  Tastes and preferences also change naturally over time.  I've been composing in multiple genres for a long time. It's once of the things I enjoy most about composing for film/TV - I'll be asked to do something I haven't done before, and wouldn't necessarily try in my solo career. And then maybe it rubs off into my solo material anyway. Who do you see as your main competitor? I'm not competing against anyone. I don't view the arts that way, though many will call the music business competitive.  I just do what I do and don't worry about anyone else.  If you want competition try sports or corporate America. If it wasn't a music career, what would you be doing? In college, I studied Psychology as a back up career.  But it was never my main passion so that wasn't meant to be in that way.  However, the instinct to help others does play out in writing music, as it is an outlet for expression and healing for everyone.  Now that I'm releasing music in 432hz, a known healing frequency, this really all comes together.  I'm trying to lead the charge on other artists switching back to this frequency of 432hz for mainstream music, as this will raise the planetary vibe immensely. What is the biggest problem you have encountered in the journey of music? I will answer this from a career perspective, in terms of achieving success.  The business is generally cut out for the artist to fail at - so this obstacle is experienced by everyone.  Major label deals have never been fair for the artist.  Royalty rates have historically been low.  We hear a lot about this now with streaming services, but it's existed way before they did.  The royalty rates for film/TV usage of music have always been poor.  I've even had publishers that have requested to take a portion of the WRITER'S share of royalties - incredibly unethical. The entire system, like so many systems, just needs revamping. And it will happen. https://open.spotify.com/artist/4037d7AXgtfNQ1bOMnE5NZ?si=6yrjC5BxSJa34j3nn_AEvA Why did you choose this as the title of this project? I liked the alliteration of Miss Mace Mixes. What are your plans for the coming months?
More new songs, live performances, and epic new projects that I can't say more about now! Do you have any artistic collaboration plans I plan on working with the best the industry has to offer. Why aim lower? What message would you like to give to your fans? I'm grateful for those who are discovering and enjoying my music. I hope it raises their vibes and keeps them excited for more. I also hope it inspires them to follow their passions and be perserverant.  As my biggest successes have come in this later chapter, it's proof positive of not giving up, staying authentic and having faith.

wanted to post more over here and had the idea to do lil reviews for albums from years past. i'm gonna try to post a review for this series, as the name suggests, every thursday!! to kick things off we're taking a look at one of the greatest live albums of all time, LCD Soundsystem's The Long Goodbye! also feel free to follow me on rate your music and twitter <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Long Goodbye: LCD Soundsystem Live at Madison Square Garden - LCD Soundsystem
◇ release year: 2014 (recorded 2011) ◇ genres: dance-punk, indietronica, alternative dance
With LCD Soundsystem going on tour in a few months and a new album reportedly in the works, listening to The Long Goodbye in 2024 can be a bit awkward. This show in New York's Madison Square Garden was billed as their last. A year prior, the band had released This is Happening, an album that received rapturous acclaim from critics and one that frontman James Murphy prefaced by saying it would "be the last one." It seemed that after multiple critically acclaimed records, Murphy was beginning to lose interest in the project and decided to stop while they were ahead. Of course, it's never over until it's over, but The Long Goodbye acts as a damn good send-off.
You can experience this show in two forms. One being the concert film and the other being the live album released for Record Store Day in 2014. For the sake of this review, I'll mainly focus on the live album.
Across the over three-hour runtime, Murphy and crew provide a more than comprehensive look into the band's relatively short, but extremely fruitful discography. Very few stones are left unturned. The band rips through cuts from their debut, Sound of Silver, This is Happening, and even a detour into Murphy's 45:33 piece which he created for Nike. This can make it a little daunting for newcomers to their work, but I seriously doubt anyone would start that journey with The Long Goodbye.
Tumblr media
The band opened the show with three incredible renditions of tracks from their then-most recent album. "Dance Yrself Clean" was the perfect way to start with the slow build into the explosive climaxes of the song. That moment when "part two" of the track kicks in and you hear the crowd just explode is one of the most magical moments ever put to record. It's insane how well these tracks work in a live setting too. Everything feels grander, everything has a bit more bite. The beat on "I Can Change" just feels so much bigger here than in the studio. Made even grander because you can feel the energy of the crowd at every moment. They're hooked onto every moment, they know they're experiencing something special.
From there, the band goes through material from their first two records. I love this little stretch of the show, they're locking in, especially on these versions of "Get Innocuous!" and "All My Friends." The ending of the latter acts as a perfect "end credits" kind of moment until you realize there's still so much more to go. Next, the band dives into the 45:33 portion of the show. They sound like they're having so much fun here, especially when they dive into the groovy "You Can't Hide / Shame on You" which leads directly into the title track from Sound of Silver. Just a great moment and so, so much fun. The off-kilter jam that is "Freak Out / Starry Eyes" closes this portion and the band continues to not miss a step. Jumping right into "Us v Them" which features an incredible bassline. The band starts bringing out some guests here, namely Arcade Fire who make an appearance on "North American Scum." Murphy would go on to produce some tracks for their album Reflektor a few years after. Their cover of Alan Vega's "Bye Bye Bayou" might be the closest the show gets to a "lull", but it's still a fun time.
Tumblr media
Until the end, it's pretty much all killer, no filler. They enter a groove from "You Wanted a Hit" onward. I'm probably also biased because this section features some of my all-time favorites. The previously mentioned "You Wanted a Hit", "Tribulations", "Someone Great", and "Home" just to name a few. I adore these songs and the versions of them from this show might be definitive for me. Especially "Tribulations" which never fails to make me dance around a little bit. "Someone Great" sounds a bit different from its studio counterpart. It's a bit darker sounding and I think it works very well. I think it might be Murphy's best moment as a lyricist. The home stretch begins with "Home" as Murphy begins the song by thanking the audience "for supporting this weird thing." A very heartfelt moment delivered before one of the bookends of This is Happening. That callback to the "ah ahhhhh ah ahhh's" of "Dance Yrself Clean" gives me chills on both the studio and live versions of this track. From there, we go into "All I Want" which is another one of my favorites. The sweeping synths come alive in this version. The penultimate track here is a cover of Harry Nilsson's "Jump Into the Fire." A very inconsequential number, but you can tell the band is having a good time. Before leading into the final track, the band plays a version of the Twin Peaks theme while Murphy thanks everyone in the crowd. A really sweet moment.
The show ends with an unbelievably great version of "New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down." There is so much love packed into this version with Murphy bantering with the audience about how "this is his last long pause" in the song, showing that he almost doesn't want it to end. When the drums kick in alongside the piano things really get going. So many moments in this song give me chills. The closest thing I can relate those moments to is the beginning of "I Loves You, Porgy" from Nina Simone's live album In Concert. Even when you're not there in Madison Square Garden, or Carnegie Hall in Nina's case, you can feel everything. Just an indescribable feeling. It's the perfect way to close out this show and, at the time, the story of LCD Soundsystem. The Long Goodbye is one of the most comprehensive live albums/concerts ever. It covers pretty much every aspect of the band's catalog at the time and the band rarely ever gets lost in the process. Of course, the band would return years later, but that doesn't undercut how special The Long Goodbye is at all.

Pandhora - Euthymia (Jiminy Hop Remix) by Pandhora 📩 Never miss a beat & join our newsletter: https://bit.ly/pandhora-news 🦋 Music & more: https://bit.ly/pandhora-live We're thrilled to present Pandhora's 'Floating Consciousness' EP freshly reworked by Lauren Mia, Shunus, and Jiminy Hop. Los Angeles based classical pianist and producer Lauren Mia has made a name for herself over the past two years. She took the scene by storm with outstanding releases on Anjunadeep, Rose Avenue, and Harabe. Bringing a subtle middle eastern touch to 'Euthymia', her remix blends dynamic drum patterns and sounds from her own analog synthesizers. With top charting releases on Kiksuya, The Soundgarden, and Where The Heart Is, Jiminy Hop stands as a strong upcoming producer within the Organic House scene. His delicate sound design and melodic approach to dance music felt like the perfect match with Pandhora's delightful psychedelic beats. His take on 'Euthymia' is bright, uplifting, and an invitation to fly away - whether home or on a cosy dance-floor. Shunus is a familiar name if you've been following Art Vibes for a while. The British producer and singer-songwriter delivers a groovy and dancy version of 'Ataraxia'. While keeping the original guitars, he gives them a twist and brings out a nifty vibe out of his remix. As usual, we hope you will appreciate this eclectic release on Art Vibes! The Nu Chic has recently released a new single: #higher
April 2023 - The Nu Chic, born Nikki Smith, is a singer and songwriter with a truly diverse sound. Her music explores a huge range of styles in a very seamless way. These include fusion, EDM, pop, and so much more. To add to that, The Nu Chic loves to use her music for a higher calling, infusing her message of hope, belief, and faith. As a Christian artist, she wants to cater to listeners who enjoy gospel music but also reach out to the greater music community with a positive message of hope, love, and understanding. #higher is a perfect song to accomplish that! On this release, the artist definitely managed to embrace a refreshingly fun and nuanced philosophy in terms of arrangement and composition. In other words, #higher seamlessly achieves a massive tone without overdoing it and loading up the song with way too many elements. It is really all about keeping it very spontaneous and direct in order to maximize the emotional impact and create a more genuine connection with the audience overall. The song kicks off with a dreamy synth melody, and the beat immediately acquires a very irresistible groovy feel, which makes the drum pattern so spicy, along with the bass line! The Nu Chic’s vocal performance is pure fire! Her energy is palpable, and so is the sheer passion that drives this amazingly talented singer and songwriter. The chorus has a very hopeful and uplifting vibe with a sing-along that is almost like an invitation: “Keep reaching higher!” This is a positive and encouraging message that really inspires the audience. Since the mix is not overly crowded, the TRACK feels very spacious and lush, with plenty of room for the vocal parts to really stick out. The sheer scope of the production will immediately capture your imagination. The music has a larger-than-life feel, almost hitting the speaker in a big cinematic way. These sounds are very evocative and create a strong texture rather than just focusing on a melodic line to remember. The fact that there are many layers to this release really allows the artist to achieve an extra sense of depth, making for a strong and balanced tone from the moment you hit the play button. #higher is ultimately a very powerful and inspiring song. It is the kind of music that serves as a strong reminder that anything is possible if we give ourselves to God and trust in the vision that He has for each and every single one of us. Only with faith can we truly become free, and #higher is a celebration of not only that but also of all people who choose to open their minds and hearts to this beautiful greater truth. In addition, the song is simply amazing from a musical standpoint because The Nu Chic sings from the heart and creates a fantastic experience for the audience. The song offers a very crisp sound, with a lush instrumental that matches the intensity of the vocals to absolute perfection. #higher by The Nu Chic is highly recommended to people who enjoy listening to artists such as Ariana Grande, as well as Tina Turner, V.Rose, CalledOut Music, Rachelle Farrell, Gawvi, Koryn Hawthorne, Michael Jackson, Prince, and many more. When not busy creating wonderful tracks such as #higher, The Nu Chic is also a music executive at LionFish Music Group, on a quest to flood this planet with beautiful, passionate, sincere, and amazing music that will make a difference in the life of her listeners. Twist Q&A
Tumblr media
Saw this meme floating around Twitter recently and it seemed fun so I'll do it over here since I wanted to start text posting about twst more. Answers below!
1. When did you start playing?
EN server launch.
2. Whose hand did you take?
Riddle; I didn’t know much about the characters when I started so I chose him because of the Alice in Wonderland aesthetic and because he also reminded me of another favorite character of mine, Akashi Seijuurou from Kuroko no Basuke.
3. Who was your tutorial SSR?
Dorm Riddle!
4. First fave vs current fave?
Riddle was my initial fave and I’m still very fond of him, but Book 3 hit me like a freight train and Azul is now my current favorite.
5. Caught up on main story?
Yep, waiting for EN release of Book 6.
6. How many unread vignettes?
Around 25; those event card vignettes keep piling up.
7. First event banner SSR?
Fairy Gala Leona; he surprised me when I was pulling for Jamil’s event SR.
8. First birthday SSR?
Cater!
9. Gacha saver or impulsive?
Started out impulsive even though I know better from previous gachas. After not being able to get a few cards I wanted I’m now a hardline saver and I won’t pull for an SSR if I don’t have 100 pulls ready so I at least get something.
10. Favorite dorm?
Octavinelle. I love the aesthetic of the dorm and the Mostro Lounge, and the dynamic between Azul and the Leech twins is just too good. Plus Octavinelle has the best dorm uniform design; it’s so classy. I also was a big The Little Mermaid fan when I was a kid so it's a natural fit.
11. Favorite 1st year?
Deuce. I love those ex-delinquent types who are trying to turn their lives around, and he’s generally such a good and earnest boy who’s trying his best. His devotion to his mom is also really sweet.
12. Favorite 2nd year?
Azul! He’s just a funny little guy, along with the Leech twins. Every time those three appear and the Mostro Lounge theme kicks in you know something entertaining is going to happen. I also do find some of Azul’s issues pretty relatable (I just wish I had his work ethic…). For me he's such an interesting character with a lot of layers to him; I wasn’t expecting him to have as much depth as he has but Book 3 and 4 really sold him very well.
13. Favorite 3rd year?
Idia. Like the Octavinelle gang, Idia is an entertaining and complex guy and he so often has such funny nerdy dialogue whenever he appears. Otaku archetypes can be hit or miss for me but Idia is a definite hit; his Robes SR vignette hurt but in a well-written, understandable way. I also appreciate how much he cares about Ortho and tries to do right by him even when it makes him uncomfortable. His nerdy friendship with Azul is a lot of fun too.
14. What NRC class would you actually want to take?
Alchemy maybe? I’m a nerd so a lot of the classes sound pretty interesting; even the History class would be cool.
15. What character would you beef with?
Ace for ghosting his ex, smh.
16. Favorite book?
Book 3; it’s fun and the Octavinelle trio are entertaining villains. Book 4 is a close second since again the Octavinelle boys are really fun in it and Jamil’s also great. I’d say my overall opinion of best to worst is roughly 3, 4, 5, 1, Prologue, 2. I'm really hoping the manga adaptation will improve on the shortcomings of Book 2.
17. Favorite original card art?
Tossup between Groom Idia, Fairy Gala Leona, and Dorm Riddle. For cards not out in EN yet I'd include Masquerade Azul and Masquerade Idia, they're lovely.
18. Favorite groovy card art?
Beans Floyd; he just looks adorable.
19. Are you good at twisttunes?
I’ve been able to get SS on Hard for a number of them but I’d still say I’m mediocre. I’m not sure how much of that is my skill or problems with twisttune tap detection since I generally do well in other rhythm games.
20. Favorite staff member?
Crewel! He’s so entertaining and also the most attractive character in the game for me honestly. It's also funny to think of him being a bit of a troublemaker when he was attending NRC himself. His character design is just so aesthetically clean and great; if they ever add teacher cards he'll be one I'll go all in on trying to get.
I also love Trein; he can be really strict but is actually a decent guy who seems to genuinely care about his students’ wellbeing. Also his doting over Lucius, his sweet reminisces about his wife, and his pride for his daughters are all pretty cute.
21. Who is closest in height to you?
Riddle. Why are so many of these boys giants? Joseimuke Don't Make All the Dudes 7 Feet Tall Challenge (VERY HARD)
22. Are you saving for anything?
Idia’s birthday; after that I need to save up for both Azul birthday cards since I didn’t get his first one last time. For non-birthday stuff I’m aiming mostly for Masquerade Idia and Azul cards next year, and maybe also for Beans Azul and Floyd if they get rerun. There's so many other caracters whose cards I'd like but I try to prioritize Azul, Jade, Floyd, and Idia above all.
23. Who do you most relate to?
I relate to Azul’s insecurities and Idia’s anxiety but I wouldn’t say there’s really a character I find generally relatable in that “this guy is literally me” type of way. A lot of characters have bits and pieces I can connect with, which is probably why I find basically every character likable.
24. What club would you join?
Mountain Lovers Club, because it actually does seem pretty fun and chill. I do like going for walks in nature and I’m already that person who takes random photos of rocks and things so I’m on Jade’s wavelength here 100%. Plus I love to cook so I’d be happy to make dishes with all those tasty mushrooms and foraged edible plants. Let’s just be careful about avoiding the poisonous ones…
25. What dorm would you want to be in?
Octavinelle. The atmosphere is the best and Azul seems to be pretty hands-off as a Housewarden as long as you’re doing what you’re supposed to be doing and upholding the dorm’s reputation. Also the best dorm uniforms and working in the Lounge wouldn’t be so bad to earn some extra cash.
26. What dorm would you actually be in?
Ignihyde because I’m an introverted nerd, although I’m not sure my tech chops are good enough to make the cut.
27. Favorite event?
Honestly I’ve enjoyed every event but Ghost Marriage is my favorite because all the characters have such funny and entertaining banter; it’s the number one event I’d love to see included in the anime because there’s so many parts that would be hilarious to hear voiced. Also I really enjoyed both parts of Beanfest and the Halloween events.
28. Favorite vignette?
Dorm Jade’s vignette; his interaction with the Pomefiore guys is so funny. Really all three of the Octavinelle Dorm vignettes are great. Groom Idia’s is also very entertaining.
29. What does your homescreen look like?
No screenshot handy but it's Birthday Boy Jade with Jade's bedroom as the background.
30. What’s your hottest twst take?
The jokes can be pretty funny but I think fandom exaggerates how terrible a person Jade is a little too much; the dude is definitely questionable and seems to have a sadistic streak, but he hasn’t actually done anything noticeably worse than the other boys really. He’s just a weird shady eel guy who enjoys chaos, mountain hiking, and (affectionately) dunking on Azul.

And still, they’re happy as can be in that place they have together. Almost hate seeing one without the other, y’know, it’s like seeing just one testi- oh, right, I’m not supposed to talk like that. Anyhoo, I only say that because I saw Taehyung at a jewelry store the other day while I was buying my sweet Jiminie his presents. Well…you’re not entirely sure but him ditching right after a very heated make-out session sure isn’t a good sign. His extremely poor mood the next week sure isn’t either, but the only way to fix it is to face the beast head-on. Right?

Kyra’s Top Albums of 2020 🎧
Tumblr media
Despite a tragically hectic year, some of my favorite artists managed to release some phenomenal projects in 2020. Here are my top picks (in no particular order):
Tumblr media
Girl Eats Sun—Hope Tala • R&B
Tala’s third EP is a picnic on a Spring evening—breezy and warm. I absolutely adored her first two projects, so it’s been a joy hearing how she’s continued to develop her unique style. On Girl Eats Sun, she masterfully serenades you through the different phases of love from dizzying happiness to aching longing. The little things are what elevate this project, from the strings on the wistful Easy to Love Me to Sky’s high-pitched, flowy vocals on the chorus of Mulholland, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention my special appreciation for when Tala’s pitch dips and she’s in that pleasant moment between rapping and singing—hello verse two of All My Girls Like to Fight. Despite the title, Tala’s latest project brings the sunshine out for me every time I listen.
Tumblr media
Ungodly Hour—Chloe x Halle • R&B
If you somehow managed to miss Chloe x Halle being the darlings of R&B this year, then please allow me to be your introduction to one of 2020’s few must-listen albums of the year. There’s no other way to describe Ungodly Hour than as a treat for R&B fans: from the variety of tempos (there’s the breathtakingly beautiful ballad Wonder What She Thinks of Me as well as the certified party bop Do It), to the timely range of topics from relationships to self-love (the lyric “I had to learn to love me lately” felt especially pertinent in a year without the usual social distractions); the album takes you on a ride. And of course, the whole time you’re wrapped in the surreal pleasure of their talent for unique harmonizations. If you’ve yet to queue this project on your streaming account, do it.
Tumblr media
Holy Cow—All Cows Eat Grass • Electronic
Now here’s a group I’ve missed! ACEG projects always excel at layering dreamy synths with smooth beats, and Holy Cow fits right into the herd. One of their slower projects, tracks like Fly and Pillow Talk would easily fit into a summertime playlist with their simple, fun melodies. There’s also great storytelling in the lyrics of this project from the palpable excitement of the VIP section of a nightclub on About Us to the visceral shock of hearing “thank you” in response to “I love you” in a complicated relationship on Pretty Ladies—ouch. There are so many melodic gems on this 35-minute project; welcome to the pasture.
Tumblr media
Ice Cream Clones—ROMderful • R&B
I must admit I was late to the party that is ROMderful’s music. I first encountered ROM last year via Twitter where he would post short clips of miniature duplicates of himself playing the various instruments of the track; the full videos can often be viewed on his YouTube channel. Since then, I’ve been enjoying the pleasant rabbit hole that is his Soundcloud (he’s had releases on Soulection) and production credits (he’s worked with artists like DUCKWRTH and Rayana Jay). A talented multi-instrumentalist, ROM’s music is full of fun sounds and soulful melodies, and his social media presence is just as joyful (his current Twitter name is ROMderTHICC). This project is full of very short tracks with infectious hooks. It’s a quick listen, but one I’ve returned to often.
Tumblr media
Rumble Pack—Button • R&B
Button is the collaborative union of Allen Love and Bobby Earth—one of my absolute favorite independent R&B artists, and the reason I gave this project a listen. I’m very glad I did. Rumble Pack is brilliantly bizarre: funky synths, blazing features, all interspersed with random gaming commentary. Fans of The Jet Age of Tomorrow (Pyramid Vritra and the Internet’s Matt Martians) and ROMderful (who has a Rumble Pack feature) will surely appreciate the groovy eccentricity of this one. Thanks to this fun, soulful project, I’ve decided I may be a video game fan after all.
Tumblr media
Cosmic Lips—Momocurly • Smooth Jazz
If the phrase ‘easy, breezy, beautiful’ were an album, this would be it! Momocurly is Japanese pianist and vocalist Momo Otani and French guitarist Christophe Pannekoucke. Together the two crafted an exquisitely mellow medley of melodies. Cosmic Lips is everything I enjoy in jazz: relaxing, mid-tempo and smooth. Otani’s voice is unique, high and light, and she glides over the tracks like Pannekoucke’s guitar. This project transports, it’s otherworldly.
Tumblr media
with HER - EP—Crush • K*R&B
Because I believe Crush is one of the most talented R&B crooners making music right now, I was completely unsurprised to find that his latest project is smooth and soulful. Only five tracks, it’s a short one, and the concept is incredibly cute—each track is a duet with a different woman vocalist comprising a project of unique love ballads. The different vocalists mean each track has a unique sound and lyrically the project is full of heart-warming quotables and seductive one-liners. with HER is a project to fall in love to.
Tumblr media
DPR ARCHIVES—DPR Live, DPR Ian, & DPR Cream • K*Rap/K*R&B
Ahh DPR, the eye candy that makes ear candy. DPR, initialism for Dream Perfect Regime, a South Korea-based art collective, blessed fans with this collection of both new and previously released tracks from DPR Live, DPR Ian, and DPR Cream. Though they collaborate extensively, each artist has a distinct sound that diversifies the collection overall—where I would call DPR Ian a pop artist, I’d call DPR Live a Rap/R&B artist, and then there’s DPR Cream whose contributions are purely instrumentals ranging from smooth and R&B-tinged to piano solos. For fans or those dipping their toes in for the first time, the ARCHIVES offer much to enjoy. (Also watch some DPR videos if you haven’t yet, both the men and the art are exceedingly visually pleasing.)
Tumblr media
Peace Is Not a Dream—Senpu & ROMderful • R&B
And ROM makes another appearance! This time on a collaborative project—he has quite a few and I’ve enjoyed them all so far. Senpu, who I am less familiar with, contributes production and vocals to this project. Unlike Ice Cream Clones, these tracks feel more fully fledged out, with a verse or two in addition to the chorus. Between the memorable melodies and vocal harmonizations this project is certainly dreamy.
Tumblr media
Rare Changes—Mayer Hawthorne • Soul
If you know anything about me, you know Hawthorne is one of my favorite blue-eyed soul artists, and Rare Changes is a lovely retro addition to his catalog. This album is from the seventies, I’m convinced: from the mid-tempo disco grooves to the doo-wop style background vocals. Rare Changes demonstrates Hawthorne’s adeptness at balancing nostalgia with the best parts of modern music, queue this one for a mellow night of slow dancing and slow sipping.
Honorable Mentions (there’s some bops here, but overall the project didn’t move me):
Tumblr media
It Is What It Is—Thundercat • Funk
Whimsical & free-flowing as is his style; lyrically musing & haunting, the last track is an absolute clincher to the project.
The Slow Rush—Tame Impala • Alternative
If age-ripened weariness had a soundtrack you could bop to at a festival; Breathe Deeper instantly brings a smile to my face.
Shabrang—Sevdaliza • Alternative
Sevdaliza is one of the few artists who consistently leaves me breathless—her art is daring, thought-provoking, and absurdly beautiful. Shabrang is no different in its presentation and lyricism, though it is musically more traditional than I might expect.
Sin Miedo—Kali Uchis • Reggaeton
I already think Spanish is a beautiful language but Kali just makes it even more so. I’m not the biggest fan of reggaeton (I’m sorry to say it starts to sound repetitive to me after awhile) but the slower songs on this project are lovely: R&B melodies with her breathy, unique vocals. I definitely enjoyed the listen!
SLINGBAUM ONE—Slingbaum • Experimental Jazz
Voyage-19—Bilal x HighBreedMusic • Experimental Jazz
For fans of experimental jazz, get into SLINGBAUM ONE and Voyage-19, both projects are odd in the best sense: more about vibes and transitions than the traditionally cohesive album—I bought both and I’m still enjoying exploring them.
SAWAYAMA—Rina Sawayama • Pop
Future Nostalgia—Dua Lipa • Pop
Pure pop is not my usual fare, but SAWAYAMA, a fun, dance project is truly special—it is genre melting and Rina’s strong voice transforms to expertly complement each new vibe. Also, PLEASE watch the video for XS, it was one of the few things that energized me this year. And then there’s Future Nostalgia, a fun disco-inspired project. Only a couple of the bass lines & melodies caught my ear, but the visual/aesthetic roll out was spectacular.
The Album—Teyana Taylor • R&B
This was my first time sitting down to try a full Taylor project, and while I overall found the tracks repetitive, The Album has some bass lines I enjoyed and Taylor’s voice is beautiful.

What would La Squadra's daughters be like when their young adults I feel like all of them would have some very interesting daughters?
Me, five seconds after seeing this ask: okay haze,,,, you have a bunch of other requests that have been waiting,,, don’t write your weird genderbend alternate universe domestic au headcanons reskinned as their daughters. It was a fun daydream while it lasted but no one is gonna care about-
My hands, already typing: ROLLER DERBY!
Risotto Nero: Risottos daughter is still quiet as she gets older, but doesn’t take any shit. Knows plenty of self defense, and keeps a knife she got for one of her birthdays on her at all times. Probably plays bass and her only makeup experience is corpse paint and over the top eyeliner for going to underground metal shows. She begged her dad for a dog in her early teens, and it’s absolutely massive, but a huge sweetheart. Has a great relationship with her dad, even though they don’t know exactly how to talk to each other.
Formaggio: Oh this girl is something else. Cannot keep her mind or focus on one thing at any time, she’ll tell you seven different stories in the process of telling one, and she won’t even finish half of them. She’s a killer hair stylist, seeing as she’s learned to shave designs into her own head, and into her dads. Says pog unironically, and has a shit ton of pins and cute charms on her backpack. Her and dad are best buds, and they prank each other constantly.
Prosciutto: Pros’ daughter is the type of girl at school that you can’t tell whether she’s really cool, or outright terrifying. Her style is immaculate, her makeup is precise, she can run full speed in heels, and if she hears you talking shit she will end your fucking life. She’s really apathetic about most people though, and puts up cold fronts in front of her friends. But they’ve come to learn her specific brand of friendship and affection. She’s probably bailed half the other girls out of jail before. Her and Prosciutto have an... interesting relationship. It’s not bad per se, but they have some conflicting opinions, and they’re both rather stubborn about being ‘right’. Lord help you if they team up.
Pesci: she’s short, thick, and pure muscle, covered in bandaids half the time and roller skates daily. She’s on her local roller derby team! She doesn’t always know her own strength, and she’s absolutely solid, so her hugs can be a bit painful if she isn’t careful, but she’s real sweet. Missing a tooth from when she got dared to hold onto a friends car while in her skates, but she’s never really been self conscious about it. Her and her dad take fishing trips together, mostly catch and release though, she feels too bad to actually kill them.
Illuso: she’s either into a very specific, very refined style of dance, or serious martial arts. Either way, she probably has a bunch of medals because she’s better than you, and she wants you to know that. She has this look that makes you think she’s about to insult you at all times, and she probably is. Uses an odd mix of twitter slang and really old phrases like “groovy” and “copacetic”. Makes all her insults sound like compliments (wow, I wish I had your confidence to wear that in public) and probably has screenshots saved about you just waiting for the moment she can strike. Her and her dad are at each other’s throats a lot with typical teen drama, but every so often they bond with the ancient art of judging people together.
Melone: absolute prodigy child, and knows too much. Instead of using this ability to get into a prestigious school or graduate early or something, she’s decided to use it for more fun purposes. Queen of blackmail, people pay her to dox people online or create some of the most convincing deepfakes you’ll ever see. Melone did not openly encourage this, but also doesn’t discourage it either, he’s thrilled at some of the choices she’s made, and looks forward to seeing how she keeps going. Her and Mel don’t act like a parent and child, but they have a good relationship. Though, they almost seem to treat the other like an experiment sometimes.
Ghiaccio: From the start, Ghia was protective, and that may have caused a few issues, but they’ve surprisingly worked it out faster than most because they never stopped talking to each other. She did hockey and softball when she was younger, and some acrobatics classes. A real athlete even through college. At some point she taught herself sign language so she could keep yelling at people even when she was told to quiet down. Her and her dad get along pretty well, though it gets explosive when they don’t.
Sorbet and Gelato: Their kid seems to be their opposite at first, kind, soft, caring and a general ‘good girl.’ But if you stay in the same room as them long enough, you know better. She’s a demon in disguise, but no one would ever dare claim her to be at fault, because she seems so sweet! She couldn’t have possibly done anything! But you know better. She collects things in shoeboxes under her bed. You don’t want her to show it off, no one does. She has Gelatos laugh, but Sorbets smirk, a chilling combination. She doesn’t really talk to her parents in front of people, but they always exchange knowing looks.
