Color Clash Book by Counter-Print

Colour is one of the essential elements of many branding designs. It can help give an identity personality and warmth, express emotion, communicate messages in an unconscious and subtle way and it can keep or navigate the viewer’s interest, drawing the eye and making elements stand out.

This book explores colour palettes in graphic design that surprise, engage, challenge and grab our attention – the combinations that maybe shouldn’t work but just do. These are palettes that break the established rules and laws we have been taught about colour theory and remind us that colour can be fun as well as meaningful.

A unique look into the kiwi household of the late 70's, Family Budget Planning is an interactive budget breakdown to get you on the right track with your money. I found the Average Spending Pattern page particularly enlightening.

Between the pages, the only interaction with the workbook was a circled passage: "Before we start let's all agree...all income is ours not... his or hers".

Picked this up at the @fotografiska.newyork last spring during their #moholynagy exhibition. @larsmullerpublishers has reproduced the 1925 #designs but with English translations of the #bauhausbucher series of books. They were initiated by Moholy-Nagy & #waltergropius to promote the #newdesign philosophies coming out of the #bauhaus . While the #book is called #painting #photography #film , it’s very apparent in the essays & the visual content that László was much more interested in the latter two. Hallo/hola/ciao bellísimo zine +font + pattern. Ahora sí, no sé cuándo empezó este proyecto, en primavera o en invierno, las letras trajeron al fanzine o el fanzine llamó a la tipografía, y los pattern? The letters were cutted in linoleum between winter 2019 and fall 2021. Each letter is influenced by the facts of its moment and the diversity of its occurrence. They were called by the typography craft to be organized into a font family. Because of this, these uppercases were digitized during the spring of 2022, and I've decided to include a pattern set in the lowercase slots. This one hadn’t been on the “to read” shelf for too long, but I picked it up when I had to suddenly fly back to my sister’s place last month. I knew I would need something to read in transit & once I was there & I knew I wanted a piece of fiction. Always enjoyed the work of @jon_mcgregor & as my family was dealing with sudden struggles & tragedies, it was strangely comforting to read about another family going through very different struggles & tragedies. I just loaned this to a friend, so I don’t want to give too much away, but it begins in Antarctica, shifts to Chile, & finally to Cambridge, England. It’s beautiful & uses language in interesting ways, especially when language is very much failing one of the main characters.
