✰ ✰ ✰ ✰
Mud caked the rims of your boots, soles sinking into the grass as you stood at the edge of the wooded area, fingers gripping the hilt of the knife that was secured on your belt. Through the trees, seemingly ignorant of the violent rain that was obscuring a usually clear line of vision, stood a man in armor like you’d never seen before. He was tall, taller than men you were used to, and everything about him was entirely foreign. The snap of a branch under his foot had alerted you to his presence in the woods. You weren’t alone any longer. Like a little kid coming across a wolf on the forest path, you felt frozen in space. Usually quicker on the draw, and on the defense, you were stuck in limbo just waiting. Who would move first? You or this man who looked like he had just startled a deer and was trying to calm it with his immobility.
There were stories, warning tales that floated from village to village the closer you got to the channel about men who came from strange lands and pillaged whatever they could. You were not as unfamiliar with the idea as some of the villagers who repeated the stories told to them. This place was foreign to you too, though perhaps not as foreign as you’d heard their land was. You’d never known anyone who’d gone there and back again or knew anyone who knew anyone who had. It was all speculation, each time growing darker, with sharper teeth and more villainous endeavors. They didn’t just kill, they slaughtered. They didn’t just steal, they burned whole villages to the ground. As if the devil this village feared had possessed them, sent them up from hell to do his bidding on the good, true christians that had stolen you from your home and sold you to the family you lived with for a price you could never hope to pay off.
“There are more of you?” You spoke saxon, hoping he knew something of the language you’d been forced to adopt. It wasn’t yours and you realized that he knew that when he tilted his head. Eyebrow quirked and for a split second you forgot how tall and demonic and out of place he was because he looked as bewildered as the little boy you kept watch over when you tried to explain the phenomena of the universe.
Finally he nodded. He didn’t seem afraid at all and you didn’t blame him. Who were you to inspire fear in anyone? You let go of the hilt of your knife, chancing a step toward him. The only thing he could be doing, by not yet killing you, was biding his time. If he assumed that you were faster than he was, that you knew the woods better than he did, then he could assume that you would reach the closest village sooner than he and his men would. And if you did, it could give them chance to run, though you could assume that running was in vain. This man looked the very part of death and it was an inevitable fact of his existence that wherever he went, so did it. Even if you ran, even if you warned whoever you had to warn, he and his people would find you and kill you and it would mean nothing.
Though you life so far had meant nothing anyway. “I’m not going to run away,” you continued speaking. He had understood you before. “I’m not afraid of you.” That was a lie and the little half smile that he gave you told you that he knew it was a lie.
“No?” He took a step closer to you, leaves crunching beneath his boots.
You swallowed the nerves that bubbled up into your throat, keeping your gaze on him and your stance relaxed. You weren’t afraid. What was the worst he could do to you? Kill you and put you out of the abject misery that your life had equated to since you had been brought to this village? Leave you alive and take you back across the sea to wherever he was from so that you could live exactly as you lived here somewhere else? You had no alliance to the people in the village where you lived.
The closer he got to you, the better you could see him and you were struck with the odd thought that he was incredibly attractive. There was something about the way he moved that vaguely reminded you of something you once knew in another life. You could see also, as the rain began to lessen, that there was a series of small markings tattooed into his skin, parallel to his eye. You hadn’t seen anything like that in a decade, maybe longer. Sometimes it felt like the place you were before this village was an imagination of yours, just a daydream that you invented. Other times, like this one, it felt like you had just been standing in the doorway of your little house watching your father sharpen a sword.
“Perhaps you aren’t afraid,” he teased when you reached your hand out and touched the side of his face where the tattoo was.
Just as quickly as he’d felt the roughness of your fingers against his cheek they were gone, your hand clutched to your stomach as if you’d been burned. “You’re going to kill them?” You asked, not daring to look away. He could devour you if you even blinked and you knew he would not hesitate to do so.
“We are already on our way.”
Ubbe had split from his brother at the sound of a brook, eager for water after the long journey to shore. When it’d begun to rain he had abandoned the expedition, heading back towards the encampment to rejoin his brother and his army. It was then that he’d seen you, standing in the middle of the forest and staring at him as though he were some apparition sent by the gods. He’d been on shores like these before, had seen other saxons. They were nothing inspiring, if not for the wealth of land and riches that were offered in the raids, they offered little that peaked his interest. But there was something in your eyes, even through the dense rain he knew you were different. And when you spoke, the accent that carried your words was nothing like the saxon ones he had grown accustomed to. You were no christian.
You wondered what repayment of a debt entailed for his people? Would these supposed heathens be as brutal as your christians had? Surely not. “Would you take me back with you? Is it foolish...to beg for my life?”
“Are you begging?” The way he asked was almost teasing. As if he was saying ‘weren’t you the one who said you weren’t afraid’. When you squared your shoulders, the hand that had caressed his face going back to your knife, he smiled. You were positively enticing.
“No.” You replied, forcing yourself to keep yours eyes locked with his. They were blue like the ocean. Like the stream by the house that you vaguely remembered living in as a child.
“What about your people?” Ubbe asked, looking passed you as he spoke. Unlike you, unsurprisingly, he wasn’t afraid to look away. What could you really do to him. You doubted your knife would do more than tickle him. “You’ll let them die?” He’d encountered plenty of saxons and while he had little respect for them, he didn’t know them to abandon each other.
“They’re not my people.” You explained, “they are nothing to me.” It would be beyond your ability in saxon to tell him exactly what they were. To explain the pain and anguish that you’d suffered all these years though you suspected he knew by the way his eyes softened at your words. Still tall and intimidating and yet, his eyes made you doubt that he could be as terrible as the stories you’d heard. No one with eyes that soft could kill the way these men supposedly did. Or maybe he could, but you couldn’t believe that he would kill you that way.
“What should you have me do?” He asked, though he had already made up his mind. Possibly when he first saw you. Bjorn had told him once of a person he’d taken back to camp with him as a sort of trophy and he’d heard stories of Athelstan from men who’d travelled with his father. Whether it was some hereditary thing in him, a need to possess something beautiful and different, or whether it was something about you and the way you stood so unafraid in the middle of the woods and refused to cave to him, he knew that he was already planning to take you home with him.
“I could work...if you gave me passage. I could work to pay you back.” You offered.
Ubbe frowned in thought, reaching his hand out and running muddy fingers against your hairline. The caress felt almost intimate and for the first time since you saw him in the clearing you let yourself lose focus, closing your eyes for a moment as you leaned against his touch. When he pulled away, you opened your eyes, tensing again as if you had never let yourself relax.
“What would you do?” He asked, blue eyes shining as they met yours again.
“Anything.” You promised, “I have nowhere to return and I will not die.”
“You refuse it?”
“If you wanted to kill me, you would have.” You reasoned, knowing it was true. There had been plenty of moments from when he saw you to now that he could have killed you. He could have done anything he wanted to but you were both still standing here in the woods and it had started to rain again and you could smell the smoke in the air. “So then, if you’re going to let me live...take me away from here.”

🫀REQUESTS ARE OPEN🫀
Imagine going for walks in the woods with Ubbe.
Asking Ubbe to come with you for a walk became more of a habit than an invitation with time - you asked although both of you knew perfectly well he wasn't going to reject the offer. For a good hour, he had you all to himself, away from the distracting hum of Kattegat's bustling life.
It felt nice, and refreshing, to be disjointed from the bland weight of daily life once in a while. Ubbe never alluded to that but you were pretty convinced he needed a break from time to time as well. He was a prince, after all, and that meant endless responsibilities and a reputation to uphold.
"Why do you like walking in the forest?" he asked.
For some reason, you always went for a walk in the woods. You might as well have chosen the shore, listening to the soothing crash of sea waves as you and Ubbe talked. His eyes, akin in colour to those waves, studied your expression with great interest.
"It gives me time to think."
He could only wonder what it was you needed to think about. During your walks, you would often walk in silence for most of the time but by the unreadable look in your eyes, Ubbe always knew that you were preoccupied with pondering your daily, mundane problems. He asked you a few times to share whatever was eating at you, sometimes you did so on your own, looking for his opinion or just wanting an ear to listen. But on days when you scarcely exchanged any words, he could only wonder what worries kept gnawing at your thoughts. Ubbe was a man who loved too much to push you for answers or explanations.
"Then why did you ask me to come?"
Ubbe didn't say it outright but he did, in a way, suggest it: was he a distraction? You looked at him, meeting his soft, blue eyes. A gentle smile appeared on your face.
"My thoughts are much nicer when you're around."
The cold wind nipped at your skin, so you leaned further into him.

"Cmon Jason. Give it a rest," you heard one of his friends tell him, but you were already crossing the bridge to get away from them.
You'd came to the park after school to relax after yet another hellish day of studying. You were a history student, obsessed with the Vikings, and sadly for some reason Jason's enemy number one. Apparently, the frat boy still held a grudge for the time you rejected him last year and decided to make your life a misery.
As you were halfway across the bridge you heard laughing then footsteps and just as you went to turn you felt him grab your bag off your shoulder. Well, he tried. You grabbed it back, yelling "help!" As his other friend tried to help him pull it away.
You glanced behind you to see if anyone was near but no. You were alone of the bridge 6 feet at least above the deep lake. "Dude!" You heard the friend again as your head whipped back around.
"fine!" Jason yelled as he let go of the bag just as you had attempted to tug it from him. "Wait no!" You heard his voice before you felt the wood dig into your back and then heard a sickening snap.
You screamed as you felt the wind rush past your face, hair whipping around as your body hurtled headfirst towards the water. You felt your head sink in and the water ring in your ears like church bells as your eyes screwed up tight.
You waited for your head to crash against the rocks but instead felt your legs hit the soft ground, your butt and shoulders soon following. Your head hit the ground gently as a groan left your lips. As your eyes opened you realised not only did you feel no water or soggy clothing but that a scattered sunlight was washing over your face.
"What the-" you muttered as you sat up. Your guitar bag was still clutched in one hand, your backpack hooked around your elbow, and now your earphones had been tossed behind you during the fall. That however did not concern you as much as the overwhelming greenery.
The Forrest around you had winding trees up to the sky with whispers of squirrels and rabbits in the background. You pulled yourself to your feet as your eyes scanned the woods. "Where am I?" You muttered as you grabbed your headphones and shoved them in your bag.
You checked your phone however there was not only no signal but now the time had become dashes alongside the battery percentage. The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals were now just colourful blobs and even when you tried opening the emergency number call it refused to let you punch in the digits. You sighed and turned it off, hoping that by the time you found your way out the Forrest it would have rebooted so you could call your parents or maybe even a hospital since you'd obviously hit your head very hard.
You put the phone in your bag and zipped it up, even using the number lock your mother insisted you put on it to keep your bag safe. You weren't sure which way to go. After all no matter where you walked you could either be going closer or further to whatever destination would be the safest.
Fuck it. You thought. There's only one way to find out. You walked through the forest, not even trying to not step on twigs or ruffle leaves since you were probably just far deeper into the campus woods than you'd ever been before. However, then you heard voices.
Well laughter really. At least three men. Your footsteps slowed encase Jason and his friends had somehow made you lose your mind and we're torturing you but no. Instead, you held back a gasp as you peaked through the leaves to see four men with their backs to you.
One was sat on a log playing with what looked like a dagger while another two practised throwing axes. Fuck. All three were dressed as if they were Vikings. Perhaps you'd been studying them too much and had officially lost your marbles.
Or perhaps the other Viking nerds in your school had formed a club. As you debated taking a step forward one of the men missed his throw causing another to yell out a jab. As the man span round to answer his eyes stopped when he saw you. His hand shot out to nudge the man next to him who turned around.
He was a brunette man with a long braid down how back "I'm Ubbe," the boy called as he stepped forward, "Who are you? Why are you here?" He called however your eyes wandered down then widened as you saw him gripping his axe.
"Tell us!" The boy who had missed called, stepping closer. Your eyes wandered to the third who was reaching for something in his belt when you finally made up your mind.
Run. You turned, sprinting as fast as your legs could carry you. Your feet hammered against the dirt as their shouts echoed through the forest. You didn't dare glance back or stop for the branches whipping against your face. There was finally a break in the trees. Freedom. Safety you thought.
As you ran you arrived at the top of a hill. You turned to look down, expecting to see your campus when dread filled your blood. No this wasn't real. A village of Vikings now looked up at where you stood on the hill.
You stood for a moment panting as you overlooked it all. That was until you heard them again. "Stop right there!" Ubbe all but screamed.
You ran again. To your left was a high cliff facing a grey blue ocean and to your right was 3 very angry looking Vikings. You decided to take your chances with the clueless as you barrelled down the hill into what looked to be like a market.
Despite being the least terrifying person here they all jumped out your way, gasping and screaming as you ran all while Ubbe and the others chased you.
You were running towards a bridge by a stream and decided for one last second to glance behind you. They were just running around the corner when you felt a hand grab your foot as the other got swept up in the air.
It was as if your body took flight as you fell to the ground with a large thump. You groaned as you tried to pick yourself up just for a large hand to grab your shoulder and flip you on your back.
As you stared at his electric blue eyes your own eyes widened. "Ivar?" You whispered and his eyes widened so much you wondered if it hurt however just as he went to speak Ubbe pulled him off him.
Ubbe. Your brain clicked. There's no possible way. It couldn't be. Surely not. Ubbes hand pulling you to your feet. "I asked you a question," he growled as you gasped for air. As much as you wanted to be tough and brave and all the other things these Vikings were being faced to face to Ubbe was too much as the spots began to cloud your vision and you felt your body fall limp as the world faded to black.
-
As you began to stir you half expected to open your eyes and see your dorm room, but the hard stick pressed against your spine made you doubtful. Your eyes opened to find yourself in a wooden cage in the corner of what looked like a bedroom. It was dark and suddenly felt very small as your hands grabbed the bars as you began to shake them.
“Fuck,” you grunted as you hit your hand against the frame but instead of it budging now your hand just hurt. Before you could try for any longer you froze when you saw the door slowly push open.
“I see what you mean,” a woman’s voice muttered as she approached your cage. You couldn’t bring yourself to look at her or the men behind her, “What is she wearing?” she whispered.
“We don’t know,”
“We found her like this,”
“Do you think she’s a witch?” you felt your blood run cold at the man’s word.
The woman stood up and turned to what you soon realised were her sons. In fact, now you realised who they all were. It was Sigurd who’d claimed you may be a witch but how could he possibly be real? He was a tv character after all.
“Perhaps but we cannot know for sure yet,” Aslaug whispered to her son, “Can you speak child?” she called out to you as if she was shouting on a dog. Your head raised so you could get a better look, but you couldn’t bring yourself to speak.
“What are we going to do?” Ubbe asked. As the four spoke amongst themselves you realised one was missing. Ivar was nowhere to be seen.
“Your father should be home any day now. We will wait for him,” Aslaug finally determined, “I have never seen someone like this. I do not wish to find out what harm she can cause alone,” with that the four turned to leave, shutting the door and leaving you in the stale dark once more.
You sighed as you leaned back against the cage however as your eyes scanned the room you noticed your bags sitting in the corner making your head instantly perk up. You knew you didn’t have anything sharp in it but as your stomach rumbled you realised what you did need. Food.
As you began to wonder how you would get to your things you heard the door crack open. You looked up as Ivar dragged himself into the room, constantly checking over his shoulder before he shut the door and brought himself over to your cage. His eyes scanned your frame as you brought your knees to your chest and hugged them tightly.
“Who are you?” he murmured, his eyes landing on your face, “and how do you know my name?” the silence that followed was only broken by the loud rumble of your stomach once more as you winced. “You’re hungry?” he asked.
Finally, you nodded, and a smile quirked onto his lips, “So you do understand?” you nodded again, “If you tell me who you are I’ll bring you something to eat,”
You paused as you decided if it was worth breaking the façade, you’d created but as your stomach churned you realised starving to death before Ragnar returned was not worth it. you whispered your name, but your voice was hoarse from lack of use.
Ivars’s head tilted slightly as his eyebrows knitted, “What a usual name,” he mused.
You bit back a laugh. “Coming from Ivar the boneless,” you muttered.
His eyes widened, a look of what you couldn’t tell if shock or rage or both washed over his face. “What did you call me?” he half yelled, grabbing onto the bars of the cage you were suddenly thankful for.
“It’s what everyone calls you!” you rushed out, pushing yourself as far away as possible, “In the textbooks that’s what legend says you were called I’m sorry,”
He paused, his hands slipping from the bar as the confused look returned, “What is a textbook?”
“Like a history book,” you said but that did little to explain it to him, “It’s like- “you paused trying to think what the closest thing to a Viking textbook was, “It’s like how you pass down stories in songs! We write them down in textbooks, so nobody forgets,”
Ivar paused for a moment as he finally relaxed again, “Where did you come from?” he asked, “And how do they know who I am? What have you told them?”
“I haven’t told them anything, my teachers they taught it to me,” you said, finally allowing yourself to sit at ease again, “I’m from the future,” the words felt foreign in your mouth as Ivar’s blue eyes widened.
“Prove it,”
“You’re Ivar the boneless, son of Ragnar Lothbrok,” you spoke but your voice was shaky as you tried to remember all you could, “Brother of Bjorn Ironside who explored the Mediterranean sea. Son of Aslaug. You go on to command the great heathen army,” you said and as you spoke Ivar looked like a child being read a bedtime story about pirates and mermaids, “You Ivar are a legend where I am from,” perhaps bending the truth a little but what would he know.
“And who- “
You cut him off this time when you felt your stomach lurch, “You said you would feed me. I won’t tell you anything else till you live up to your word,” you tried to sound firm, but it clearly wasn’t your style.
Still though Ivar nodded as he slowly began to drag himself away, “I shall return,” he said as he opened the door, a small smile tugging at his lips, “Don’t go anywhere,” he teased before shutting the door behind him.
You rolled your eyes as you sunk back into the wood behind you. “Oh god he really is nuts,” you whispered. Then again perhaps it was you that was nuts. After all you had just been talking to a Viking who’d died thousands of years ago.

Tattered hears
Warning: Smut, hints of abusive marriage, cheating, swearing
Pairing: Ubbe × reader
1.01
The snap of a branch caught your attention. He was getting closer. You still made your movements, knowing if you made any noise, he’d hear you. You try to hear what direction the footsteps have gone, but the forest goes completely silent. You loved this little game of cat and mouse, you being the helpless prey and…
“Ubbe!” You squeal when he pounces from behind and pushes you forward into a tree.
You press your palms against the tree and arch your back so it’s not touching the rest of your body. Your breath hitches as the cool night air nips at your bare skin and as your lover's hand grazes against the back of your legs, then your ass cheek. He palms your ass with one hand, then another, snaking around your front to squeeze at your jaw, slipping his fingers into your mouth for you to suck on. After a moment, Ubbe lets go of you to lower his trousers enough for his cock to spring free. He rubs his cock against your cunt, which was still dripping from the previous orgasm he gave you from his mouth. He pounds into you roughly, one hand resting on the tree for balance and the other groping at your breast.
You hold your breath, waiting to see if he notices.
Ubbe abruptly spins you around so your back presses against the tree. The look on his face was hard to read. He lifts you, slides back into you, and pulls down the front of your dress so your heavy breasts are out and swaying with each thrust. Ubbe’s eyes widen as he rubs his thumb over your hard nipple. He lifts his head up to meet your gaze with a wicked grin on his face. “You are with the child again.”
“Y—yes.”
His cock reaches the sweet, soft spot that drives you crazy. You dig your fingers into the back of his neck, savoring the moment. It had been months since you last had him alone, and you weren’t sure when you’d be able to do this again. The bark from the tree scratches you, but it only adds to the thrill of fucking him when you shouldn’t be.
“Is it—”
“It’s your baby, Ubbe,” you say before clashing your lips against his.
He smiles into the kiss and says, “How many children must I give you before your husband notices, hmm?”
Muffled moans fall from your lips; you’re so lost in pleasure that it’s hard to form a sentence. You wrap your arms around Ubbe's, holding him close as he continues to thrust into you until he cums. When he’s recovered from his orgasm, he pulls out and gently places you back on the ground, then falls to his knees. Holding your skirts up, he licks at your clit until you come shaking and crying his name.
As Ubbe fixes your skirt, you catch your breath. He smirks while kissing your clothed body, breathing in your scent until he reaches your chest. He brushes his nose against yours while his fingers fix you back into the top of your dress. He raises his brows and says, “This won’t fit soon. You’ll need to size up to make space for your bump.”
“I know.”
“Does he know?”
You shrug. “I’m unsure; he doesn’t pay much attention.”
Ødger, your husband was almost loved as much as Ragner himself. He was known as a fierce warrior and was old enough to be your father. He was well respected within Kattegat by most, aside from Ubbe and his brothers. They saw who Ødger really was; the only reason they hadn’t killed him was because their mother, Aslaug, the queen of Kattegat, made them promise not to.
“When can I see you again?” You ask. After almost getting caught having sex by Bjorn, you decided to keep a distance between you to throw off any suspicions, but it was hard. Your sneaking around had started as one friend helping another, and now you were in love with someone who wasn’t your husband.
“Tomorrow,” he says, fixing himself back into his trousers. “Me and my brother are going fishing. I could take the boys with us; I get to spend time with them and see you without raising any suspicion.”
“Okay, I look forward to it.”
“I don’t know how long I can keep doing this,” he sighs. Ubbe presses his forehead against yours and says, “Leave with me.”
Your heart hammers in your chest. “What?”
“Leave Kattegat with me. We can take the boys and go.” Seeing you look hesitant, Ubbe places your hand on his chest, right above where his heart is. “You love me. I’m the father of your children, not him.”
“Ubbe…”
“Egil and Kåre are my blood, and they should be raised as such.”
Tears swell in your eyes. “Ubbe, please, we had an agreement.”
“What if I told you I wanted to end it? That I want more.” He kisses you passionately. “Elli, I would treat you right; I would give you everything you want.”
You married Ødger too young. And when you failed to fall pregnant, he became violent. The only person you shared the fear of not having children with was Ubbe. Wanting to help you, Ubbe suggested you sleep together until you were with the child. By the age of fifteen, you gave birth to your first child, Egil, and two years later, you gave birth to Kåre. Now, seven years after your secret relationship started, you are pregnant again. Throughout the years, you had hidden the way Ødger treated you, but as your sons got older, you feared for their safety.
“I’m scared,” you admit.
“If you stay with him, I’ll watch over you and the boys from a distance, but I cannot continue doing this. It’s becoming too hard; watching you fake a happy life with someone who doesn’t deserve you is painful for me. Leave Kattegat with me; we can come back one day.”
“What about your mother?”
“My brothers can protect her without me for a few years.”
Looking into Ubbe’s blue eyes, you knew what your decision would be. “I’ll go with you; as long as you promise me, you’ll always keep Egil and Kåre safe from Ødger.”
“I promise.”
Your day had gone well; your sons had gone fishing with Ubbe and Hvitzerk. Your eldest Egil was incredibly proud to present you with what he caught. You prepared the meal alone so it would be done faster, promising to show them how to gut a fish the next day. Aslaug had asked you to make her three new dresses in a short space of time. You still needed to collect more plants for dyes and more wool to turn into yarn.
Hearing Ødger’s voice, you told your boys to play outside but not to go off far. Ødger stands behind you, watching as you clean food off the table. He grunts, “We have thrall’s for that.”
“I don’t mind.”
Your husband pushes himself up behind you, causing you to scrunch up your face. Even the mere touch of him caused your skin to crawl. He brushes his mouth against the back of your neck. “I heard Ragnar’s sons were here earlier.”
“They took Egil and Kåre fishing.” You say. Ubbe had briefly discussed the plan he had made for you to leave together when Hvitzerk appeared, cutting the conversation short. Feeling your husbands hands start to grope at your body, you push him away and say, “Ødger, stop.”
“Stop?”
“I’m not in the mood for… that.”
“What?” He frowns.
“I don’t feel well,” you say, trying to walk by him.
Furious, he grabs hold of your wrist to stop you from leaving. “Is it not a wife’s job to please her husband?” When you don’t answer him, his grip tightens. “Speak woman!”
“I don’t feel well because I am with a child.”
Kåre runs inside, interrupting Ødger before he can reply. “Mother, Queen Aslaug is outside.”
Aslaug walks into your home with a smile plastered across her face while holding Egil’s hand. You were convinced she knew the truth about your son's parentage but would never ask. “I just came by to see how the dresses were coming along.” She walks closer to you and says, “My sons told me the good news.”
“My apologies; I haven’t finished the dresses yet.”
She gives you a knowing look, then politely talks to Ødger, but he quickly leaves. When he is gone, Aslaug mumbles something to herself and places her hand on your stomach, her smile fading as she does.
“What’s wrong?”
“I am told very little, but I know everything,” she says quietly. “And I know leaving Kattegat isn’t in your future.”

I’m not sure if your requests are open! If not just ignore me !! Can you do a Hvitserk x reader where she’s a Targaryen that has been exploring other lands on dragonback and comes across Kattegat which has never seen a dragon? I just love when the OC is the center of attention 💕💕
Alright this took me a while to make and I had so much fun while doing It, as an asoiaf fan, to write for a Targaryen character was always something I wanted to do, but just never had the opportunity so thank you for your ask, i really loved it.
I'm gonna need your willing suspension of disbelief in two things here: asoiaf and vikings maps and languages spoken, with that being said, there's no warnings, no smut, just a kiss, a few of dragon rides and Ivar being the bad bitch he's always been.
The end is cut short because I totally gonna need more than just one chapter to develop this relationship, let me know if you want something like this.
Enjoy ♥

Life was a willow (and It bent right to your wind)
You were the center of attention since you were born, being the only daughter to the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, you inherited your mother’s title: the realm’s delight. You were Rhaenyra’s youngest child, not an heir, just a daughter and you loved that. Your brothers had to deal with lords and lands and battles, while you could do things as you will, and to be honest, what you loved the most was flying around on your dragon.
You bonded with her very early and started flying at the age of seven, the same age your mother started flying Syrax. You named your dragon Seafyre, it was a she dragon, your favorite thing in the world, your best friend and your protector. She had a beautiful silver color with blue scales, her flames were blueish with a hint of silver and despite not being an adult dragon yet, she was growing very fast, you wondered If she would grow to be as big as Balerion was.
Rhaenyra loved you dearly, at first she wanted to protect you from the matters of the Seven Kingdoms, but as you grew up, she saw so much of herself in you, she wanted you to do great things, wanted the people to know you not just as a beautiful young woman, but a strong princess. Seeing the love you had for your dragon and despite Daemon’s resistance, she decided to introduce you to the truth.
Rhaenyra’s claim wasn’t as strong as Aegon’s simply because she wasn’t a man. Despite winning the Dance of the Dragons and killing her brother, not all of the lords accepted her power. They plotted against her and she knew she needed allies to call for when the time would come. You were smart and gentle, and the Queen decided to make you a messenger: you would fly to further lands and offer alliances with the Queen.
“You’re late.” Your mother scolded you as you entered the council room.
“Lost track of time.” You answered a little embarrassed, taking off your gloves as you walked towards her.
“Come, we need to talk.” She gently touched your shoulder as she guided you towards the table.
Gathered around the table there was only the hand of the queen, your father Daemon and the Master of Whisperers, you knew what that meant.
Every time the Master of Whisperers heard of new lands, he would come to Rhaenyra to tell her about the possibility of new allies, he was the one to tell her you were the perfect messenger for Dorne. After Prince Qoren’s death, his daughter Alliandra ascended to the throne. During the Dance, Rhaenyra asked for Dorne’s support but was denied, Prince Qoren decided he wouldn’t step into that fight. However, after killing Aegon and ascending, the Queen tried one more time, with you. Later, you and Alliandra ended up becoming friends and Rhaenyra finally had Dorne’s support.
This happened a lot of times. Rhaenyra would send you first, on your dragon, like a messenger of peace, you would study the place and the lord, would understand his needs and try to become a friend, then you’d come back home with information and most likely an invitation for a meeting with your mother and your father, this helped Rhaenyra to secure her time on the throne, but she knew she should use as much help as she could get.
“We heard from a land of men across the Narrow Sea.” The Master of Whisperers started.
“In Essos?” You asked with a frown.
“Beyond the Free Cities, beyond the Dothraki Sea. Where none of us had ever been.” He continued and you nodded.
Rhaenyra held your hand before telling you: “We want you to go there.”
“That’s further than anywhere I’ve ever been…” You looked at her with widened eyes. “And I thought we’d had enough allies by now.” You crossed your arms in front of your chest.
“It will never be enough.” Your mother answered. “We need as much support as we can get, you know that.”
“I know, I know…” Your shoulders brushed and you looked down, she cradled your face between her hands.
“What is It, sweet girl?” She asked gently, making you look at her.
“It’s just… Will this ever end? I mean… You… Sending me far away from home to find people willing to help you, offering your help, preparing for a fight that never comes.”
“This fight is lurking between the curtains of your mother’s house.” Daemon intervened. “It will come… Sooner or later.” He walked to you, taking Rhaenyra’s place and holding your shoulders, he gently touched your chin making you look up at him. “I don’t like this as much as you do, but at this point you’ve done it too many times…”
“Seafyre will protect you.” Rhaenyra stated.
“We trust you.” Daemon caught your attention. “It’ll be just like the others.”
Everything was settled and the next day you were ready to go. Seafyre was waiting for you at the pit as you said your goodbyes to your parents.
“We don’t know their costumes, be sure to protect yourself and your dragon no matter what.” Rhaenyra started. “Your well being is more important than any agreement, so take care.” She kissed your forehead, a tiny smile on her face.
“Yes, your grace.”
“Be strong.” Daemon warned you, a gentle hand on your shoulder.
You smiled at him before walking towards your dragon, you caressed her neck and mounted her, looking back over your shoulder before flying.
You were used to traveling long distances on the back of your dragon, that was never a problem for you, but the thought of going to a foreign land so far from Kings Landing was still leaving you uneasy. Would they welcome you? Would they be aggressive? You had no idea. And after crossing the Narrow Sea, the thought became stronger, so did your fear.
You crossed the Free Cities and the Dothraki Sea in one day, but what you didn’t know was that, after crossing those lands you would meet with another sea, a darker one. You caressed your dragon one more time imagining it would be a longer journey than you expected, she would be more tired as soon as you arrived, that would stop you from coming back right after.
“Keep going, girl.” You whispered in hopes she would hear you.
By morning you finally reached the sight of land and blinked incredulously: there really was a faraway land after the end of the world. You landed at the beach, Seafyre was so exhausted she laid down immediately.
“This was great work, my girl. You did great, I’ll find you something to eat.” You murmured caressing her sides.
You clearly caught the attention of the people there, the little houses around the beach had a few people gathering outside just to stare at you and your dragon. Women and children looked dumbfounded at both of you.
“Look, Lagertha!” A tiny voice sounded some place into the houses, you searched for the source, and it didn’t take long for you to find it, a little boy rushed towards you with a little girl running right behind him.
“HALI! ASA!” This time a woman screamed, she ran towards the children.
You quickly grabbed the two before they reached Seafyre and crouched before them with a smile.
“Calm down, she’s tired.” You warned.
“Is this… Is this…” The little boy stuttered.
“A dragon. Her name is Seafyre.” You helped him.
“Seafyre…” The little girl repeated, her eyes sparkling as she looked at the dragon.
“Is she yours?” He asked and you nodded. “You came from the sky with her, flying on her back!”
“Not from the sky, from-”
Suddenly a pair of hands grabbed the children’s shoulders and pulled them away from you, the woman was defensive and you understood, so you stood up and smiled at her, trying your best to look harmless.
“What are you?” She asked with a growl.
“A woman, just like you.” You offered your hand for her, she looked at you with a frown and didn’t take it. You withdrew your hand and smiled embarrassed. “I come from another kingdom, one that is far away from here. I come in peace.” You tried again.
“What kingdom? Are you from England?”
“England? Is it another kingdom?” It was your turn to look at her and ask with a confused frown.
“What kingdom are you from?” She insisted.
“Westeros, I’m from Westeros.”
“Never heard of It”
“Never heard of yours either, yet here I am.”
She was dumbfounded, suspicious to say the least. Looking at you and at your dragon with a deep frown on her face, It was clear to you that these people never once saw a dragon in their lives, you were shocked but no so much, you were separated from each other by two large oceans, a dragon is just one of the probable differences between you.
“I believe your name is Lagertha, right?” You tried but she didn’t respond. “I know you’re scared but I come from a long journey, and I need to feed my dragon. I see you have a few animals around, I wonder If you could give me one.”
“What if I don’t?”
“I can’t control her when she’s hungry.”
Lagertha looked at the gigantic animal and gulped.
“Come.” She talked to the children who whined and struggled a little to follow her, but did it anyway.
You waited patiently until she came back with two big pigs, showing them to you. You nodded before taking the leash from her hands and taking the pigs towards your dragon. That would give her enough strength for hunting for herself afterwards. You put the two pigs in front of her, she sniffed the air and opened her eyes. She quickly ate the two pigs with a loud growl, startling Lagertha who walked back two or three steps, away from you both.
“She’s sweet most of the time.” You said loud, caressing her sides as she calmly laid back down. “But not when she’s hungry.” You joked before looking back at Lagertha.
“I think we should go to see the king.” She mumbled under her breath, trying to look away from your dragon and focus on your face.
“Don’t you think he would like to see her first?” You tried.
“Come here?”
“Yes. This way he can see the nature of my offer with his own eyes.”
She didn’t answer, just left without saying a word. You stayed there for a few hours feeling a little stupid but before giving up, you saw a group of people coming to the beach, one of them in a chariot while the others followed. They talked among themselves and looked at you with widened eyes. You prepared for their approach, standing beside your sleeping dragon trying to look as peaceful as possible.
“So, is this the beast?” Said the man coming down from the chariot.
“Her name is Seafyre.” You corrected him, noticing he needed the help of a pair of crutches to walk.
“You wanted to see the king. Here I am.” He answered with a smirk. “I’m Ivar.”
“It’s an honor, Lord Ivar.” You bowed. “As I said to Lady Lagertha, I come in peace, I come with an offer.”
“What kind of offer?” He asked suspiciously.
“An alliance.” You answered. “I come as Princess of Westeros to offer you an alliance from my kingdom to yours. My mother, the Queen, is willing to fight for you with all her powers when you ask for, as long as you fight for us when we do the same.”
“Do you have more of these?” He asked, a sparkle in his eyes as he looked at your dragon and you nodded. “Can you bring them to the fight?”
“I can.” You smiled and he did the same.
“You can enjoy our hospitality for as long as you need, then you can teach me more about your kingdom and tell me more about this offer and your dragons.”
***
You were all gathered in a place they called “the great hall”. It was very cold, and reminded you of Winterfell. You sat around a fireplace at the center and everyone was paying close attention to you. Later you learned they were all related, the king and his brothers: Ubbe, Hvitserk and Sigurd, their wives sat by their sides and all of them looked at you with widened eyes and suspicious looks. You were very different from them with your violet eyes and platinum hair, and your Targaryen attire in bold red drew attention against their black tunics.
“Where’s this West- Westeros?” Ivar talked first.
“Across the sea…” You started to answer but were quickly interrupted.
“We traveled across the sea, never heard of a kingdom called Westeros.” He insisted.
“You haven’t traveled enough.” You smiled and shrugged. “It took me almost two days on my dragon, and dragons travel fast.”
“Why is it that you’re looking for an alliance so far from your home?” Ivar’s brother, Ubbe, asked you.
“Why would you ask for an alliance?” You asked like it was obvious. “Cause it’s good for both parts.”
“You gotta tell me what’s the good thing for you in It.” Ivar continued.
You sighed. “My mother is the Queen, but she had to fight for her throne, she earned It… However not every lord of Westeros is comfortable with her power.”
“You need support.” Ivar mumbled.
“Don’t you need it?” You asked, a frown on your face. “Don’t you have your own wars to fight?”
“I can very much use the support princess, I mean we’re talking about dragons here…” He smiled. “But I don’t need It, I’ve been fighting my wars with my bare hands way before you came here.”
“So, you’re saying my offer doesn’t interest you?” You asked with a frown.
“That’s not what I’m saying…” He corrected you. “See, as I said, you are welcome to enjoy our hospitality here as long as you need. And we can keep talking about your offer in a way that can be good for both of us.”
Someone filled your cup one more time and you smiled kindly at her, Ivar poked at one of his brothers, Hvitserk, and whispered something in his ear, he looked at you before both of them left the table, excusing themselves, they crossed the curtains and vanished on the back of the great hall as you followed them with your eyes until you lost their sight. You looked around feeling very conscious of your own loneliness in that place, there really was a feast going on, they were quick to prepare the food, but all of them looked at you with fear in their eyes, whispering to each other while staring at you, being the center of attention never bothered you like that before, you drank from your cup and sighed, feeling frustrated already.
“Are you sure?” Hvitserk asked Ivar, his voice low under his breath while his brother put himself a cup of ale.
“I am sure. I can sense she needs us more than we need her…” He sipped from his cup before huffing out a frustrated laugh. “At least, in a way she needs us more.”
“You think she’ll accept It?” Hvitserk insisted.
“Well, why not?” Ivar shrugged.
“She’s already offering us her dragons, I mean, she might feel like she doesn’t need to give us anything else.”
“So, we’ll convince her.”
The first rays of sun crossed the cracks of the windows and woke you up, painfully reminding you you were not at your own chambers back in King’s Landing. You sat at the bed and stretched a little, seeing a few clean clothes laid down beside your bed alongside a bow with fresh water. After freshening yourself and changing your clothes, you left the room they prepared for you, walked towards the noise you heard coming from the great hall, but as soon as you crossed the curtains, they stopped talking.
“Princess!” The same little girl from the other day ran towards you, offering her hand for you to hold, and you smiled accepting her offer. “Come sit by my side.”
“Of course.” You sat by her side and were quickly followed by the same little boy. “What are your names?”
“I’m Asa.” She answered with a smile. “This is my brother Hali.”
“It’s very nice to meet you both.”
“Do you have other dragons??” The boy asked excitedly.
“I gotta tell you, every person in my family has a dragon.” You answered proudly. “My mother’s dragon is called Syrax and my father’s, Caraxes. All my brothers and sisters have dragons of their own.”
“How many dragons do you have?” Ivar questioned.
“A lot. Like I said, every person from my family has one.”
“Where did you find them?” Little Asa asked.
“Well, that’s a long story.”
“We’d love to hear It.” Hvitserk was the one to speak this time, you looked at him and nodded.
You spent the whole morning telling the stories about your family, how they managed to escape from Old Valyria with a few dragons, how the family remained on Dragon Stone for centuries before Aegon decided to finally fly to King's Landing. They paid attention to everything you said, especially the kids who seemed in awe with all the stories about battles and dragons. You learned that Hali and Asa were Torvi’s children and that she was Ubbe’s wife. Ivar was married to another woman called Freydis, and Sigurd and Hvitserk were still unmarried.
“And he was as big as the sky?” Hali asked with big eyes.
“Balerion could strike a shadow over a whole city when he flew.” You answered with a smile.
“Did you see him?” Hali’s eyes sparkled.
“He passed before I was born, but we still have a dragon from his time, she’s almost as big as he was, her name is Vhagar.”
“Does she belong to anyone?” Torvi asked you as curious as her children.
“My sister, Baela, is her rider.”
“Isn’t she too old?” Ubbe questioned.
“She’s very old, that’s why she’s so big, we suspect her time is already coming to an end like It came to Balerion, we’re just waiting.”
By the end of the day you were all gathered at the beach, watching as Seafyre flew around. You felt when a tiny hand grabbed yours and looked down, little Asa stared at you with hopeful eyes.
“Do you want to fly with me?” You asked crouching in front of her.
“REALLY?” She asked excitedly.
“Really! Go and ask your mother.”
The little girl ran towards her parents, Ubbe caught her in his arms and they both walked towards you with suspicious looks.
“Isn’t It dangerous?” Torvi asked you.
“No, you can trust me.”
They looked at each other before putting the little girl back on the ground, they nodded, letting her come to you, you grabbed her hand and walked towards the sea shore, you called Seafyre’s name and she immediately came to you, landing right by your side. You rubbed her sides before helping Asa on her top, mounting behind her very quickly.
“You can hold here.” You pointed to the handle of the saddle, whispering in her ear. “Or you can hold my arms…”
Asa was very brave, laughing and screaming through the whole time you were flying, she held your arms firmly, but for a moment she dropped it and raised them up her head, making you hold her against your chest with a little more strength. When you landed back on the beach she was already begging you to fly again, but her brother, Hali, seemed to have his own plans. You gave both children a few rides on your dragon, carefully handing them back to their parents afterwards and promising to do the same the next morning.
After a few hours you saw yourself alone on the beach, watching as Seafyre made a show of eating fishes from the ocean. You felt a presence beside you, looking around to find Hvitserk standing a few feets away from you, you smiled to yourself imagining he feared to be close to you because of your dragon.
“You can come closer, you know.” You told him and he looked at you, his cheeks reddened a bit and he looked down before approaching.
“Hali and Asa are way more brave than I am.” He smiled to himself before looking at you, as if he was taking a moment, his smile slowly died on his face and he looked forward before starting to speak again. “Princess, I have to talk to you.”
“Sure.” You answered quickly.
“My brother has an offer he wants to make to your mother.”
“This can be arranged, you can prepare your ships to follow me back to King's Landing to have a meeting with her.” You reassured him and he nodded. Both of you stayed in silence for a moment and you felt him uneasy. “But that’s not the only thing you want to ask me, is it?”
Hvitserk looked down at his own feet, his arms firmly crossed behind his back. “No… It isn’t.”
“Lord Hvitserk I can assure you that my family always respects our alliances, you have no reason to fear, we’ll keep our word.”
“But you understand we need more than your word, right? We’re not very much of a threat to you, I mean we don’t have dragons, and we need to protect ourselves.”
This time you looked away, but immediately felt his gaze on you. It made you warm all over for some reason.
“Is that the nature of your offer, my lord?”
“Yes.”
A gust of wind crossed your body and you hugged yourself, knowing exactly when Hvitserk stopped looking at you by the way your skin raised in goosebumps because of the cold breeze.
“It’s a marriage offer.” Hvitserk continued.
“My mother is already married.” You joked.
“Are you?”
“I’m not looking for a husband, Lord Hvitserk.”
“You’re looking for an alliance.”
“In the name of my family, yes. But I am not selling myself in order to get It.” You looked at him with a frown. “And I thought your brother was already married.”
“He is.”
“Than who…”
“Me.”
Both of you looked at each other at the same time. Hvitserk was a handsome man, beautiful green eyes staring intently at you, studying your face like he wanted to know what you were thinking, he caught your eye before, especially that morning when he seemed so invested in your stories, but at that moment you didn’t know if he was truly interested in you or It was just because of his brother’s marriage offer. Seafyre landed by your side startling him, who walked back a step or two, looking dumbfounded at her.
“Do you ever fear her?” Hvitserk asked you while still looking at your dragon.
“Never. She would never hurt me.” You answered under your breath.
“You said you can’t control her when she’s hungry.” He insisted.
“She’s very protective of me, she might resent me for a bit, but never hurt me.”
You looked at her, rubbing her skin while Hvitserk looked at you with a sparkle in his eyes, he was mesmerized.
“She’s a wonderful animal.” He breathed out.
“She is…” You responded, taking a step away when you noticed she was about to fly again. “You know…” You sighed, looking forward while she flew away. “My mother married another man before she married my father. It was someone chosen for her, someone they said would be good for her. She wasn’t fully happy with him, this I know of, because she always loved my father. Eventually her first husband died and she could finally marry him…” You looked at him. “She promised me she would never force me into marriage, she didn’t want a life of sadness for me, she won’t accept your brother’s offer.”
“Would you?” He insisted.
”I don’t see marriage as a political deal.” You told him. “I want to marry out of love, not out of duty.”
“Are you already saying no?” He asked under his breath.
“Yes.”
That night you struggled to sleep, tossing and turning on the bed, you couldn’t keep your mind off of that man and how you felt warmer under his gaze. You sighed, stared at the ceiling and mumbled to yourself: “I need some air”. You changed your clothes and left your bedroom, walking over to the beach to clear your head. As soon as you got there you noticed Hvitserk sitting on the sand, surprisingly close from Seafyre, a cup in hand while he seemed to be talking to himself.
“Can’t sleep?” You asked as you approached.
“Too many thoughts in my head.” He answered after drinking from his cup. “You?”
“Mine too.” You answered, looking at him.
“Yeah… A lot of things to think about, right?”
“Yeah…” You sat by his side, staying in silence for a moment, feeling the warm breeze of the ocean on your face. You looked at him as he drank another sip of his cup, Seafyre slept peacefully a few feets away from you both and you smiled to yourself before speaking again. “I see you’re not scared of her anymore.” You nudged his arm and he looked at the dragon.
“I guess I’m too drunk to think of self preservation.” He answered and you smiled. Another moment of silence surrounded you both before he spoke again. “Would you take me for a ride?”
“You mean now?” You asked him with a frown and he nodded. “Yeah… Sure.”
You approached Seafyre and caressed her sides, waking her up whispering something in valyrian, Hvitserk stood up behind you, nervously waiting. You mounted her and offered your hand for him, he walked hesitantly towards you, holding your hand before mounting the dragon right behind you, quickly wrapping his arms around your waist, sending goosebumps all over your body, you trembled.
“Hold tight.” You warned him before flying and he heard you, squeezing you tight between his arms.
“I am…” He mumbled into your ear.
Despite the cold wind cutting roughly through your body, you felt warm. Hvitserk’s hands held firmly on your stomach, you had your back against his chest while he rested his chin on your shoulders. To have him so close brought a different feeling to you, a sort of dizziness that would blur your sight, raise the beating of your heart and make your hands start sweating. You turned your head and looked at him, he had his eyes closed, face slightly red from the wind.
“Open your eyes.” You mumbled under your breath.
You watched as he obeyed you, opening his eyes a little hesitantly, blinking incredulously as he looked forward. You smiled to yourself while making your dragon go up faster and Hvitserk held you tighter. Your skin prickled, goosebumps spread all over your body as you felt his own pressed closely against yours.
“This… This is-” He whispered in your ear and you trembled again.
He then looked at you, your faces so close you could feel his hot breath against your cheeks, you gulped, quickly looking forward. The ride was cut short, you feared for yours and Hvitserk’s safety considering how much he affected you and as you landed, he easily dismounted your dragon, offering his hand to help you do the same, as your feet touched the sand, your legs betrayed you, shaking from whatever feeling that man was causing you and you needed help to stand, his hands wrapped around your waist one more time and he used his own body to keep you still. Your hands went straight to his shoulders and you looked up at him.
Hvitserk was even more beautiful from that close, his lips were a thin line as he stared intently at you, your stomach turned again and before you even thought about moving away, he kissed you. His lips softly touched yours for a second and you immediately closed your eyes, like reflex, he then kissed you properly, lips crashing against yours hungrily, tongue massaging yours into your mouth, when you ran out of breath and you separated, a thin line of saliva kept you connected for a moment before parting. His hands came to cup up your cheeks, your noses touching while you both looked into each other's eyes, gazing, lips swollen, still wet from your kiss. Seafyre growled right beside you, startling you both and making you move away from each other.
“Someone is jealous I guess.” Hvitserk said, rubbing the back of his neck a little embarrassed.
“I guess we should go back… And try to sleep.” You mumbled, still dizzy. “It’s late.”
Hvitserk nodded and offered his hand for you to hold and you both walked back to your bedrooms. He walked you towards yours and kissed your cheek goodbye before going to his. As you laid down on your bed again, something was different. You smiled to yourself as you closed your eyes and touched your own lips, his face coming immediately to your mind as you thought about that kiss. That wasn’t your first kiss, of course, you had your little flings as you were growing up, but nothing ever left you so uneasy, Hvitserk made you feel different.
The next morning you were back at the beach, wondering If you could just fly back to your home, trying to avoid Hvitserk’s thoughts but failing as the kiss found a way to crawl back to your mind. As a figment of your imagination, he showed up at the beach, walking towards you with a little smile on his face.
“You were very silent this morning.” He told you as he approached.
“Hali and Asa weren’t there to make me talk too much.” You joked, avoiding his gaze.
“What are you thinking?”
“Coming back home, I guess It’s time.”
He stayed silent for a moment and, again, you felt when his gaze abandoned your body, the ocean breeze engulfing you uncomfortably.
“Seafyre is well rested.” You spoke again.
“What about our alliance?”
“I told you, I’m not willing to sacrifice my entire life in an unhappy marriage just to make an alliance.”
“Would that be so bad?” His hand carefully touched your forearm and you finally looked at him.
“Are you really interested in me, Lord Hvitserk?” You asked him back, staring intently at him. “You want me, or my dragons?”
He caressed your cheeks with the back of his hand and you unconsciously leaned into his touch, closing your eyes.
“I already know you’re the most incredible woman I have ever met, I just want to get to know you more…”
“What are you asking me?”
“To give me one chance, I want to be your lover, want to conquer your love.”

Tumblr media Tumblr media
As the Viking army sailed towards their target, Y/N felt a surge of adrenaline rush through her veins. She watched as Ubbe and his brothers prepared for battle, their faces stern and focused. Ragnar stood beside them, his eyes scanning the horizon for any sign of danger.
When they finally arrived at their destination, she jumped off the boat, sword in hand. She followed Ubbe and the others, her heart pounding. They charged forward, their battle cries ringing through the air.
At first, she felt overwhelmed by the chaos of battle. She saw men fall around her, heard the clang of swords and shields, and smelled the blood and sweat of their comrades. But as the battle raged on, She found herself falling into a rhythm, moving with the others, defending herself, and attacking their enemies.
They fought bravely, taking down several of the enemy soldiers with their swords. She felt a sense of pride and accomplishment as she fought alongside Ubbe, knowing that she was proving herself as a worthy shieldmaiden.
After the battle was won, she felt a sense of exhilaration and relief. She had survived her first raid, and she knew that she had proven herself to Ubbe and the others. She felt more confident in her ability as a warrior and knew that she had a bright future ahead of her as a shieldmaiden.
After the successful raid, the warriors were in high spirits and celebrated around the fire with meat and mead. Ubbe was caught up in the moment and was laughing and drinking with his brothers, while Y/N sat a little way off, lost in her thoughts.
Suddenly, a warrior from their army approached her and started to flirt with her. At first, she politely declined his advances, but he became increasingly forceful and wouldn't take no for an answer. She tried to leave, but the warrior grabbed her arm and struck her across the face.
The sound of the slap echoed across the camp, drawing the attention of the other warriors, including Ubbe. He rushed over to her, his eyes blazing with fury.
"What do you think you're doing?" Ubbe growled, his hand on the hilt of his sword.
The warrior, who was still holding onto Y/N, sneered at Ubbe. "Just having a bit of fun with the new girl. What's it to you?"
"She's my wife," Ubbe said through gritted teeth. "And I won't tolerate anyone treating her like that."
The warrior laughed. "Your wife? She's just a slave you bought."
Without hesitation, he drew his sword and charged at the warrior, engaging him in a fierce battle.
The fight was short-lived as Ubbe was an experienced warrior, and the offending warrior was quickly overpowered. In a swift move, Ubbe dealt the fatal blow, ending the warrior's life. Y/N, shaken but unharmed, watched on as her husband defended her honor.
As they entered the tent, Ubbe noticed how shaken Y/N was. Her eyes were red and puffy from crying, and her hands were shaking. He sat her down on their bedroll and knelt in front of her.
"Shh, shh," he said softly. "It's okay. You're safe now." Ubbe held her close, stroking her hair as she wept
She clung to him, her tears wetting his shirt. "I just feel so overwhelmed," she admitted. "Everything that happened today, and that warrior... I don't know if I can handle this."
Ubbe tightened his hold on her. "You're stronger than you think," he said. "You proved that today. You fought bravely, and you defended yourself when that man tried to hurt you. You're a shieldmaiden now, my love. You're one of us."
She sniffled, looking up at him. "But what if I'm not good enough?" she asked. "What if you realize that and leave me?"
Ubbe's eyes softened. "I will never leave you, my love," he said firmly. "You're my wife, and I love you. You're the most important person in my life, and I would do anything for you. Please don't ever doubt that."
Her eyes met his, searching for any sign of falsehood. But all she found was love and sincerity. Slowly, she began to relax in his embrace, feeling safe and protected.
"I'm sorry," she said softly. "I just... I get scared sometimes. It's a lot to take in."
Ubbe kissed her forehead. "I know. But we're in this together, my love. Whatever happens, we'll face it together."
Ubbe's lips met Y/N's. She felt a rush of warmth spread throughout her body. She could taste the mead on his breath as he kissed her with an intensity that made her heart skip a beat. His hands were tender as they cupped her face, and she felt his fingers gently stroking her hair.
She wrapped her arms around Ubbe's neck, deepening the kiss. She could feel his muscles tensing as he held her closer, as if afraid to let her go. The world around them faded away as they lost themselves in the moment, lost in the passion that burned between them.
Finally, Ubbe broke the kiss, looking into her eyes with a mix of desire and affection. "I love you," he whispered, his voice husky with emotion. "I will always love you."
smiled, her eyes shining with tears. "I love you," she said, her voice filled with sincerity.
Ubbe's hands roamed freely over her back, pulling her even closer to him as he deepened the kiss.
Their tongues danced together in a fiery tango, exploring each other's mouths as they lost themselves in the moment. She could feel her heart racing, her body trembling with anticipation as Ubbe's hands traced down her spine, sending shivers of pleasure through her entire body.
Their kiss grew more passionate, Ubbe's grip on her tightened. She surrendered herself completely to him, letting him take control as she felt herself slipping into a deep state of arousal.
Without breaking the kiss, Ubbe began to remove her clothing, one piece at a time, revealing her supple skin to the firelight. She felt her body heat up with desire, wanting nothing more than to feel his touch on her bare skin. She returned the favor, helping Ubbe out of his clothes until they were both naked and exposed to each other's eyes.
Their lips never once parted, as they explored each other's bodies with hungry eyes and eager hands.
"I'm going to show you how much I love you," Ubbe whispered in her ear as his fingers began to work on her core. She moaned in pleasure, her body responding to his touch. "Please, Ubbe," she whimpered, unable to hold back her desire any longer.
She could feel herself getting wetter and wetter with each passing moment, her body craving more of Ubbe's touch. She moaned loudly, her hands gripping tightly onto his muscular shoulders as he continued to work his magic.
Finally, when he could tell she was ready, he removed his fingers and positioned himself above her. "Are you ready?" he asked, looking deeply into her eyes. She nodded, a look of anticipation and longing on her face. With a deep breath, he slowly entered her, filling her completely with his hard, throbbing member.
gasped in pleasure, her body arching up to meet his as he began to move in a slow, rhythmic motion. She could feel every inch of him inside of her, and she loved it.
She moaned as Ubbe continued to move inside her with increasing speed and intensity. She couldn't believe how much she loved this man and how much he loved her, She felt safe and protected in his arms, and the pleasure he was giving her was beyond anything she had ever experienced before.
As Ubbe's grip tightened around her, she felt a surge of arousal coursing through her body. she moaned, her fingers digging into his skin as she held on tight. "More."
Ubbe's smirk grew wider as he heard her words. He growled, his pace quickening. "Look at you, Wife taking me so well, so deep."
She couldn't speak, lost in the pleasure that was consuming her entire being. She could feel herself getting closer and closer to the edge, and she knew that Ubbe was right there with her. They moved together in perfect harmony, their bodies in sync as they reached the peak of pleasure together.

Unexpected: Part 3
Summary: Thickheaded idiot Ivar finally realizes he’s in love while going to the market with her to get her new clothes and wise NPC (tm) gives him some advice. Aslaug takes her in for an interrogation à la overbearing mother… More smut ofc, but it’s a bit brief this time!
Beginning Notes: the Brísingamen is a necklace that was given to Freya in Norse mythology. From the etymology of the word, it’s possible that the necklace was meant to be made of amber.

Tumblr media
He woke up next to her this morning. Ivar can barely process it. When she moved in her sleep, he’d woken up, and he’d gotten to hold her while she was still sleeping, running a hand through her hair carefully.
She’d smiled at him when she had woken up, kissed him, gotten dressed halfway, and then Ivar had ruined her efforts and they were late to breakfast.
Now that she was his, she didn’t have to serve anyone else. Unlike Margrethe, she doesn’t dare sit down at the table, instead pouring his drink and refilling his mother’s and brother’s cups as well. Ivar glares at Sigurd, who leans towards her just to tease him.
Ivar knows that he is more interested in men than women, and that he’s fucking one ever since Hvitserk and Ubbe are taking up all of Margrethe’s time, but he still clenches his fist in jealousy under the table.
After breakfast, they head out alone. Sigurd leaves first, grabbing his Oud before he disappears to Gods know where, and Hvitserk and Ubbe leave soon after, saying that they’ll spar a bit. Ivar doubts it. Then again, his intentions aren’t the purest either.
She follows him dutifully to the market, carrying an empty basket. Before they can buy anything, Ivar spots Helga, who hands him a small vial. She smiles at her brightly.
“This is for your legs. It’s a new recipe, so tell me if anything is off.” She says, looking at Ivar.
Ivar nods, and she’s quick to take it, putting it in her basket.
“Do you need anything?” Helga asks, turning to her. She shakes her head.
“Bodil’s fever is gone, thank the Gods. It would’ve broken Estrid’s heart if her last daughter died too. That Frankish slave, Lothar, he cut himself quite deep, but the others already shared some of your old supplies.” She replies.
“That’s good. If you need anything, don’t be shy to come to me.” Helga says, walking away. Then, Ivar turns to her.
“How do you know Helga?” he asks.
“She helps us a lot. Whenever she can spare her supplies, she gives them to us. There’s a thrall that used to be in Floki’s service who learned from her. She’s a very kind woman.”
“That is true.” Ivar nods. He didn’t know Helga helped the slaves, but it’s her character to do such a strange thing.
The first stall they stop at is a fabric stall. The merchant looks like he comes from Rus, and his heavy accent confirms Ivar’s expectations.
He offers Ivar a good deal on a ready-made dress and a fur, but when Ivar turns to her, her eyes are wide.
“That is too expensive.” She says decidedly. The merchant immediately tells her he’s unwilling to haggle, but she shrugs, choosing a plain fabric instead. Ivar is sure it’s meant for aprons, but the light blue color suits her, so he hands over his coin.
“You need a pelt for when it gets colder.” He tells her. She looks uncomfortable at the thought, but nods.
“But not from this stall. This is luxury clothing he’s selling.”
Ivar lets her lead him away from the stalls on the main road, and towards a tiny stall that sells pelts as well as a few vegetables that have definitely been grown in the sorry soil of Kattegat.
She seems to know the vendor, who looks surprised at seeing a prince at her stall. Ivar chooses the fur, and she immediately begins haggling with the woman, before they settle on a price, she deems reasonable. Before they leave, Ivar spots a deep green, but still plain dress.
“That one too.” He tells the woman.
“You really don’t have to.” She insists, but the vendor readily holds it out for Ivar to inspect.
“No discussion.” Ivar tells her. “You need more than one proper dress.”
“I can make at least three out of this fabric.” She replies but lets him buy the dress.
They walk back onto the main road together, and she offers to go home. She’s blushing as she looks at the green dress, and Ivar can tell that she can’t believe the amount of money he just spent on her.
“I want to keep looking.” Ivar tells her. The blacksmith lives next to the stalls, and Ivar wants to pick up an axe he commissioned. Then, he wants to go to the stall of a Francian who sells wares from the Mediterranean. His mother loves oranges, so Ivar always goes to see if they have any.
While he’s at the blacksmith, he gives her money to go to the Francian. He follows soon after, only to see that she’s still at the stall.
“I don’t sell to thralls.” The merchant tells her as Ivar comes closer.
“It’s not for me, and I have the money. My master sent me to buy them.” She explains. “And I can take the bad ones off your hands, if you’d like.”
“Stop begging and buy off of someone else.” The merchant hisses.
“Is there a problem?” Ivar asks, stepping next to her. His axe is still in his hand.
“Prince Ivar!” he exclaims. Turning to her, he asks, “Why didn’t you tell me who your master was?”
“I didn’t think it mattered.” She presses out, and Ivar can see the barely concealed anger in the way she clenches her jaw, and her knuckles turn white on the handle of her basket.
The merchant hands over the oranges, and then turns around and gives her another crate.
“The bad ones.” He says. Ivar looks at them and sees a few with marks, some with a little mold on them. He would never eat them, but she smiles brightly and thanks the merchant.
“Why did you ask him for the foul ones?” he asks her as soon as they are out of the rude merchant’s hearing.
“They’re not foul.” She laughs. “Just a bit old. These stalls are luxury stalls, so they usually don’t even sell to random thralls, but once, Bodil found a mandarin after the stall had closed down. She brought it to the thrall quarters and shared it with all of us. We kept the peel because it smelled so good. Since then, we’ve been trying to get more, whether that’s the old ones or something that fell off his cart.”
Ivar thinks he understands. There’s one last stop he wants to make today, but before they make it, she spots a young girl. Ivar follows her gaze. It’s another thrall, who waves to her. The girl can’t be older than seven. Unsure, she glances to him.
“Go.” Ivar tells her, and she almost runs off, taking the young girl into her arms. He sees them chatter and the girl grabs an orange from the crate, holding it up high over her head triumphantly. She reminds Ivar of Hvitserk. Ivar turns to the stall he wants to visit.
“I want to buy a necklace.” He tells the merchant. They know each other well. She’s an old woman, who was already selling her jewelry when Aslaug came to Kattegat. Ivar has been going to her whenever he wants to buy his mother a present.
“For your mother?” she asks, and Ivar shakes his head.
“For the girl?” she guesses, and Ivar stares at the ground.
“Just a simple one. With a stone or so.” He tells her. She turns around, going through one of her displays, until she finds what she’s looking for.
It’s a simple band with an amber pendant she hands him, and Ivar finds it almost painfully on the nose.
“Would you like a ring to go with it?” she asks in an almost teasing voice, and it’s only because Ivar has known her all her life that there are no consequences.
“What would I need that for?” he asks coolly.
“I’ve never seen you with that girl before, but I can tell when men are in love. It’s why I sell so much.”
“Secrets of the trade?” Ivar asks sarcastically.
“Precisely that. Tell her you’re in love. And free her if you haven’t already. I’ve heard nothing bad about that girl, and it’s obvious to me she loves you back.”
Ivar nodded, handing over the money before quickly leaving the stall, necklace clutched in his hand. She enjoyed gossip, entertaining his mother whenever she came to her stall, Ivar knew that. She also enjoyed making money. Was it really true that she liked him?
She’s spinning the girl around as Ivar comes closer, before she hugs her and turns around to find him. She almost bumps into Ivar.
“Oh sorry.” She apologizes. “I’m a bit dizzy. You know, from all the turning.”
Her hairdo is dangerously close to falling apart, and Ivar wants to fix it for her later.
“Who was that?” Ivar asks.
“That’s Bodil. I gave her the oranges so she can share with her family and friends.”
“What about you?”
“I already got fabric and a dress, AND a fur coat. I don’t need more luxuries.” She shrugs.
Shakily, Ivar grabbed the amber pendant. “I still want to give you this.”
She accepts it carefully, as if it’ll crack if she cradles it too harshly. “Thank you, Ivar. It’s absolutely beautiful.”
Then, she hugs him, in the middle of the main road. Ivar freezes, not knowing what to do. Carefully, he lays his head on her shoulder.
They walk into the Great Hall the moment Ubbe and Hvitserk return, and Ivar shoots her a regretful glance as his brothers pull him away.
“I’ll clean your room and change your bedding.” She calls after him, disappearing with her new things.
Aslaug’s POV:
Ivar and his thrall had come back from the market just in time for Aslaug to watch her disappear into his room. She didn’t trust this woman. Perhaps she would use Ivar’s trust to steal something he wouldn’t miss. Perhaps she was as ambitious as Margrethe.
Aslaug was going to find out.
The thrall didn’t notice her at first. She was pulling the linens off of Ivar’s bed, her back turned to the door. Only when she turned around did she see Aslaug.
“My Queen.” She said, bowing her head. “Prince Ivar bought you oranges. I’ve had them brought to the kitchens. Is there anything specific you’d like them with?”
“What are your intentions with my son?”
“I don’t have any intentions.” She replied.
“Why did you sleep with him?” Aslaug continued.
“I thought he was attractive.”
“Despite his legs?”
“I’m not as superficial as some other women.” She said calmly.
“Would you like to be free one day?” Aslaug asked
“Which thrall doesn’t?”
“Do you love him?” Aslaug asked finally. There’s silence from this quick-witted thrall. It lasts too long to be a lie. She doesn’t answer Aslaug at all. The queen grabbed the thrall’s jaw, making her look up at her. Aslaug noticed how young she looked. She couldn’t be much older than Ivar.
She remembered her vision. Aslaug had dreamt that Ivar would marry a thrall one day. She had also dreamt that Ivar would die at sea before he would marry. Her visions did not help her. They only conflicted each other.
“He cannot free you.” Aslaug told her.
“Being his thrall has already made me happier.” She replied.
“He’ll marry someone else. A worthy princess or an earl’s daughter. Not you.”
For a moment, Aslaug sees her façade drop. A second of hurt and jealousy. Then it was over, and Aslaug let go of her jaw.
“Break his heart.” She told the girl, “And you’ll have his family lining up to kill you before he does.”
“I know.” She replied, as if that didn’t scare her. Then, the thrall continued cleaning the bed, as if their conversation had never happened.
Ivar’s POV:
She was talking to Hvitserk. Why the fuck was she talking to Hvitserk?
He creeps closer, trying to make out what she’s saying. Hvitserk’s laughing at something she just told him, and it makes Ivar’s blood boil.
“I can teach them how to make the bread.” Ivar can finally hear her say. What?
Hvitserk sees him, and smiles at Ivar brightly. Absentmindedly, he hands her his cup, and Ivar wants to start a fight with him for disrespecting his woman. Except that she is a thrall, and all she’ll ever be is his property.
“I was just asking her about the bread she made. Now that she isn’t in the kitchen, it’ll be the old bread again.” Hvitserk explains.
“Stay away from her.” Ivar tells him, before going to her.
“Jealous?” Hvitserk teases.
“Shut up.” Ivar almost roars over his shoulder.
“If it’s alright I’ll teach the others in the kitchen how to make the bread sometime next week.” She offers.
“I don’t want you talking to Hvitserk.” Ivar says.
“He’s your brother. I’m bound to see him when I’m living in your home.”
Ivar’s hand shoots up, resting on her neck.
“He’s good with most women. I’m not.” Ivar presses out.
“And I am not most women.” She replies quietly. “I thought we’d already established that.”
Ivar could feel the anger creeping up on him. Suddenly, every man in the room was staring at her. The two shieldmaidens making out in the corner seemed to be waving her over, asking them to join. Sigurd was there, Hvitserk was there, Ubbe was there, even Bjorn was there.
They all look like they were going to take her from him. And the worst part was, Ivar knows they could.
“Go to my room. Now. Take that dress off.” He tells her, before letting go of her neck.
He stays until he can’t bear it anymore before he walks towards their room. Hvitserk throws him a look that used to be reserved for teasing Ubbe, but no one else in the Great Hall notices.
When he gets to their, no, his room, the dress is barely over her shoulders.
“That was fast.” She comments. Wordlessly, Ivar grabs her, pushing her against the door. Her back hits it with a quiet thud, and she lets him tear the dress down her shoulders. The necklace rests between her breasts, a reminder that she’s his.
His fingers are on her, groping greedily because Ivar wants to somehow show her that he loves her, and that he wants her to be his – in a way that she cannot be.
“You’re mine.” Ivar says harshly, “Only mine.”
She nods frantically, and Ivar knows that, in any other situation, she would’ve said something snarky.
“Say it.” He demands. He can feel the desperation inside him growing, he wants her to tell him she feels the same way. He needs her too.
“Yours.” She breathes out, the word ending in a moan when his hand finds her pussy.
She repeats it from her own volition, over and over as Ivar leads her to his bed and sucks dark splotches onto her skin. Her hands trail down his chest, towards his breeches and Ivar lets her do it, because this is something he can trust her with.
Her hand finds his cock and she pumps up and down, until Ivar is groaning into her neck, almost ready to beg her. When he pushes into her, it feels just as good as the first time, but this time, Ivar isn’t tense, only angry.
He wants to be gentle with her, so he kisses her slowly, lets his touch become softer. He still squeezes her neck and grabs her hips, because that’s as gentle as Ivar will ever get. When he’s done, he pulls out, using his fingers to get her to finish too.
They lie side by side in silence, and Ivar can hear the sounds of the feast taking place behind his door. He wonders if they heard them. A part of him wants them to know that he can do it. Another part wants her to be his secret.
Her hand finds his. She holds it as carefully as her necklace of amber, staring up at the ceiling. Ivar looks at her, but she doesn’t notice, and for the first time, he sees her.  He sees a reflection of his anger in her. It’s hidden much better, but it’s there.
“Why are you angry?” he asks her. She hesitates, as if she’s considering lying to him.
“The merchant.” She replies.
“I can have him killed if you want.” Ivar offers. She shakes her head, beginning to smile.
“And what would that do?”
“He wouldn’t be able to disrespect you without a head.”
“It wouldn’t change anything. There’ll always be people treating me like I am worth less than cattle. It’s stupid to be angry at them, but I can’t help it. Even if someone freed me, I’d always be the former thrall.” She explains. Ivar knows that he cannot understand fully what she means, and that makes him angrier than before.
“They wouldn’t disrespect you if you were a queen.” Ivar blurts out. She turns to face him, a hand running through his hair.
“My Ivar.” She says, and his heart skips a beat. “We both know that won’t happen. You love your mother far too much.”
I love you too. Ivar wants to say, because he can hear it between the words she does say, I love you and I’d break my promise to my mother for you. I think.
“You’re the only one in the world who understands my anger.” He says instead. It has to be enough, for now.

Chapter 14 - Final Chapter
He is in a meeting when his phone vibrates in his pocket. Well, it’s not really a meeting, more of an information gathering session in a warehouse involving sharp instruments and spilled blood. He’s been taking on more and more of these ‘meetings’ since she disappeared, a good way to expel some of his rage and sadness productively.
He walks away from the man he is dealing with, wipes his hands on a cloth and gets his phone out to an interesting message on his screen.
One of her passports was used to get into the country three hours ago.
A smile quirks onto his lips very briefly followed by a deep inhalation of breath.
“You, take over from here. Just kill him. I’ve got the information I need now.”
He hears a gunshot behind him as he heads out to his armoured SUV to take him back to the estate.
When he arrives back he doesn’t go to the main house but straight to their house. He knows Ragnar would have got the same message and he needs to check something out first before he sees his father. He hurries to their shared closet, still full of her clothes and he pulls out the black shoes with the red soles, her stash spot, pulling out an untraceable phone. He turns it on and waits. The phone beeps twice. Two messages. Both from anonymous numbers, both from her.
Coming home. Too dangerous now.
See me before they get to me? I will come alone. I miss you so much.
He texts back quickly.
Yes. Will message soon. I love you. Thank you for all the photos last week, baby.
As he stashes the phone back he lets his finger run over the notebook that took him less than three days to decipher. One of the reasons he searched so hard for her and established secret communication. He cried for days when he broke the code and read her words. An anthology of love, dating from the night they met, describing every feeling she ever had for him, her deep love, the light he had reignited inside her after years of living in the black. Much as he had before he met her. The reasons why she acted as she did after Sardinia, the threats made against his life, the coldness she showed him when underneath she felt nothing but adoration. She explained it all in a diary she never intended for anyone to read. Her soul lives in these pages, and so does his.
Always and forever, no matter how far apart.
———————
He heads to the main house and into his fathers study.
”I am sure you’ve seen the message. She has returned.” Ragnar says without looking up from his papers.
Ivar nods. “I’ll take care of it. She will contact me soon, I’m sure of it.”
Ragnar looks up and stares into his son's eyes, carbon copies of his own. “Will you be able to finish the job this time? She cannot live, Ivar. She simply must die. If you feel like you can’t do it, or she will get the drop on you again I’ll send a whole team to hunt her down.”
“I’ll do it father. She is my responsibility. I will not fuck it up again. I’ll let you know when she contacts me and what the plan is from there.”
Ragnar nods in agreement and rounds his desk to embrace his son. “I am sorry for this, sorry it has to be done. You understand though?”
“I do. It’s been a long time coming,” Ivar says tersely, “I’ll speak to you soon.”
———————
He leaves the estate in his own vehicle, he drives for an hour and no one is following him. He pulls into a multi-storey car park and switches cars and drives for an hour to another car park and does the same.
It’s dark by the time he reaches the hotel. A shitty, off the track hotel he’d never be seen dead in usually. He walks as quickly as he can to a door and knocks three times.
The door opens a fraction and he pushes it the rest of the way, slowly revealing his wife to him. She has her gun pointed at him.
“Alone?”
“Alone, baby.” He steps in and shuts the door behind him before they walk quickly towards each other, arms pulling the other into a tight embrace, clinging to the other, tears falling.
“I missed you so much, Liet.”
“Fuck I missed you so much too.”
They pull at each other’s clothing, frantic to get the other naked as quickly as possible. When their goal is managed they fall onto the crappy, lumpy hotel bed together on their sides, her leg over his waist before he pushes her onto her back and he crawls over her, their mouths attached the whole time. She grabs his hard cock and lines him up a half a second before he pushes deep into her.
Their mirrored groans into each other’s mouths make them giggle.
“Fuck, love, you feel so good,” he says into her mouth before moving her inside of her, drawing deep, low moans from her. “I missed you every second of every day.”
“Me too, Ivar. Harder, please, harder!”
Their fingers dig into each other's skin, pulling into the other, trying to close the millimetres left between their bodies, a desperate need to feel every part of the other, a desperate need to fill the two year gap since they last were with each other physically.
It takes no time for their knowledge of each other’s bodies to kick in and they make each other orgasm. Shuddering against each other, the air blue with obscenities.
When they finally loosen their grip on the other they stay as close as possible, noses touching, laying on their sides, hands running up each other’s backs.
“Hi, baby,” he laughs out.
“Hi, love,” she giggles in reply.
They just stare at each other, who knows for how long. Long enough for him to run his hand through her longer hair. To run his fingers over some new scarring on her body. Long enough for her to touch his thigh where she inflicted a break. Long enough to revel in his eyes and compare them to his.
“Anyone since us, Ivar? Are you happy?”
“No one. No one ever again. Always and forever, baby. You?”
“Never for me, Ivar. You and only you. I need you to be happy again though. After all this.”
Ivar waves his hand as if dismissing her words. There is no point in lying to her, pretending he will ever let anyone in again so he just changes the subject.
“I did what you asked, love, I killed Lev.”
Her eyes fill with tears and she lets out a giggle of relief. “Thank you, Ivar. How?”
“I peeled his skin off slowly and I made him watch videos of us when we were happy, after the accident. He begged for your forgiveness and his life in the end, love.”
A nasty sneer flashes across her face. “Good, he deserves every second of pain you inflicted on him.”
A comfortable silence settles between them again before Ivar breaks it. “Where is he, Liet?”
“He’s safe I promise. I will need to get back to him in the early morning. That’s why I’m back, it’s too dangerous now. I’ve had too many close calls and I’m frightened for him. He needs stability, Ivar. I’m done running. I’m here to face what I need to, and to give you your son. You need to keep him safe from now on. I can’t offer him that any longer.”
Ivar knew this is why she had come back. Knew his men had almost caught her in Belize. Had heard rumours of her father almost tracking her down in Peru. Ivar almost gave himself away numerous times trying to throw them off her and their sons scent, Ragnar was suspicious at one point and that was when the Belize incident happened. He had warned her but a little too late. He begged her to bring his son back to him but she wasn’t ready.
She is ready now.
Ivar clears his throat, trying to dislodge the ball in it. “I am going to talk to my father. Things are different now, with the baby. I… I’ll talk sense into him. We can be toget…” the rest of his sentence is cut off by her lips crashing his. When she pulls away she gives him a little smile.
“Ivar. We’ve talked about this. Your father will not allow me to live, for his reputation and his own peace of mind. I knew coming back here it would be the end for me, I’m under no illusion I will not die tomorrow. I thought you had come to terms with it, baby?” She runs her hand over his furrowed brow and her thumb wipes a tear away. “Even if Ragnar allowed it, which he absolutely will not, I wouldn’t allow it. If my father knew I was back, knew about our son, he would never stop coming for me, for him. He wouldn't stop until we were all cold in the ground, everyone, your mother, father and brothers. There would be no peace until he had our son in his care. I can not allow that. I’m here so our baby can have a life without being hunted for the mistakes I made.” She is aware her voice isn’t as soft as she would like it to be, but she also knows that Ivar responds to this cold, detached hard truth. “I have loved you enough for a whole lifetime, this is how it has to be, love. You know this.”
He doesn’t reply, he nods stiffly and a silence settles between them.
“Liet. He will always know about you, I’ll never let him forget how much you love him, how much we love each other. No one will poison his mind against you.”
His heart breaks entirely to pieces as she crumbles down in front of him. She knows this is her last night on this Earth. Her actual last night this time. She is giving herself up for the sake of their baby. Their 14 month old baby who has his fathers eyes nestled in the features of his mother.
The greatest sacrifice a mother can make.
“Ivar, try to raise him out of this life. I know that won’t be easy, but send him to college, make him useful away from the violence. Make sure my father doesn’t get to him. Make sure Ragnar doesn’t ruin him. I’m trusting you with our baby, Ivar. You need to do for him what my past had robbed from me, a chance at a happy future. Be soft with him, like you are with me. Be loving and supportive no matter who he turns out to be or the choices he makes. Show him my Ivar, not the Ivar everyone else sees. Promise me?”
“I promise. I will be the best father,” Ivar says resolutely.
She gives him a genuine smile. “I have absolutely no doubt that you will.”
“Tell me more about him, baby.”
They spend the next few hours talking about him, his likes, his dislikes, how he sleeps curled up next to her every night with his favourite Elephant cuddly. She explains how rough the next few months will be for Ivar, he is his daddy but FaceTime can’t replicate a real connection. She explains how to best comfort him, what songs to sing him and how to make him laugh, what she wants for him in the future. She tells Ivar she has written letters for when he is older so he can understand what happened, but that it will be up to Ivar to judge when and if he feels their son can handle the information. Ivar says nothing, he just soaks up every word.
“I think that’s it.” She glances at her watch.”I will send you a text at 11am to tell me to meet me at 4pm. Your father will intercept it, we both know he will send someone. Just…. Just cover his eyes before, promise me you won’t both watch me die.”
“I promise. I promise you. We have 8 hours until I need to be home to get the message.”
“8 hours.”
“Those hours are for us and us only.” He reaches for his phone, and taps until the room is filled with music.
Everywhere by Fleetwood Mac.
He stands up and holds his hand out to her. “Come dance with me one last time, baby.”
Her eyes mist over again as she goes to him, clinging to him tightly. She closes her eyes, compartmentalises the coming day and enjoys every second they have remaining.
————————-
9am rolls around and it’s time for him to go.
They cling to each other before she loosens her grip and grabs his face, pulling it closer to hers.
“In the next life, Ivar. I will find you in the next and every life we have after. Look after our baby.”
He holds her face, forehead touching hers. “This life and the next. I love you. I will keep him safe. I promise on everything I am, my beautiful Liet. The bravest person I’ve ever met, my fighter, my Valkyrie.”
They share a kiss, a kiss so full of love, pain, admiration and promise that they both smile and cry as they pull away and he leaves.
—————————
His phone beeps dead on 11am.
Meet me at warehouse 2c at 4pm. Just you. I have something for you.
He enters the main house to his father waiting in his study.
“You saw the message?” he asks his Father.
“I did. I wonder what she has for you?”
“A bullet in my brain I would imagine?”
Ragnar regards him, hard eyes travelling over his face. “Take your gun. You shoot her on sight. There is nothing she has that we need, nothing she can give you worth anything. Kill her and we can all move on.”
Ivar nods quickly. “That is my plan.” He turns to walk out of his fathers office.
Ragnar waits until the heavy slam of the front door hits his ears before picking up his phone. “4pm. The docks. Set up a sniper. Kill her if he hesitates.”
——————-
Ivar pulls up to the warehouse and sits for a second. He closes his eyes and breathes deeply, trying to stop the flow of tears that have been cascading down his face the whole 45 minute ride over. His heart is ripping to shreds inside his chest, despite having years to come to terms with it, a tiny sliver of bright hope lit his black soul thinking they could be a family one day. His rational brain knew it would never happen, she told him weekly it would never be the case, but the fact that the end is now is too much for him to bear.
But bear it he must. Not for her, or himself, but for their beautiful son.
He walks into the warehouse and his trained eyes see the minuscule glint from the sniper rifle up high in the corner. He will be sure to tell his father about the snipers fuck up.
His eyes find her, standing in the centre of the massive room, her back to him. His heart stops. She hasn’t brought the baby, he can’t see his son. When he is close enough he gets his gun out and points it at her.
“Liet?”
She turns slowly, their baby asleep in her arms, she doesn’t look at Ivar, she doesn’t take her eyes off their baby, soaking in every last second she has with him. He lowers his weapon as soon as he sees his son.
“The sniper is shit, love. I spotted him the second I walked in,” she chuckles lightly, “tell Ragnar I said he needs better men.
————
The sniper can’t hear what they are saying, and neither can Ragnar watching from his office from a camera feed attached to the rifle.
“Sir, she has a baby in her arms.”
“I can see that.”
“Shall I take the shot?”
“No. Do not dare. I’m pretty sure I am looking at my grandchild.” Ragnars eyes are full of tears. It’s been years since anything elicited such emotion from him. He understands now why Ivar has tried to keep her safe these past two years, not just out of love for her, but a fathers love for his child.
Ragnar wipes his eyes and rolls his shoulder. “Be ready. This is an exchange. When it’s done I will give the word.”
—————
Julietta gives Ivar a look of pure love. “Ready, baby? When I hand him to you I need you to turn away and walk out. Don’t watch me die, love. Okay?”
Ivar’s nods twice. They step towards each other, he drops his gun on the floor so he can embrace her one last time. With their foreheads touching, and tears on their faces she hands the baby to Ivar, bends down, sniffs the baby's head and kisses him before turning her attention back to his father, placing a slow kiss on his lips.
“In the next life, love,” she says
“Always and forever,” he replies.
She takes two steps back and Ivar swivels on his heels, clinging to his son, lurching away on his crutch.
———-
“Sir, shall I take the shot now?”
Ragnar is silent. His heart is breaking for his son but he knows what must be done. Even if he saw fit to let her live Ragnar knows her own father would never stop coming for her and if he were ever to catch up with her he would torture her to death. Ragnar rolls his shoulders and clenches his teeth.
———-
Ivar hears the pop and the whizz of the bullet from the sniper fly past him. He hears the grunt from her chest on impact and he hears as she falls to the floor with a thud.
The tears in his eyes blind him, he squeezes his eyes shut to clear them. He wants to scream up into the universe, make the whole world hear his pain. But he looks into the face of his sleeping son in his arms and knows he won’t, he won’t scare him. So he holds it in, to be let out at a later time when his son is not with him.
He will be the best father to their son
For her.
His beautiful Liet.

~790 AD~
Ever hear the cries of the Valkyries when they appear to the slain who earned their rightful place in Vahalla where they are greeted at a feast with the mighty Odin himself? What if there were rumors amongst the dead that this year would be the birth of a Valkyrie, a very resurrection of one of his faithful Valkyrie that was one of The Third of his Norns as this child earned the name of a goddess being that embodiment of that very Goddess of fate?
Heard the cries of a woman who accumulated bullets of sweat on her forehead joining the excruciating pain sent to the woman as the other women tended to her in a small wooden cobblestone home as she was on the journey of giving birth, Some were standing by her with just a white cloth dampened from the waters of a wooden bowl replacing the cloths with a new dampened cloth to keep her body cool helping her and praying to the gods that shell have a safe birth. The iron lock on the door clinked as the door burst open causing the reaction of the women to look over in the direction to see a man standing wearing a black tunic with a worried look on his face as the cries continue.
"How is she? What is news about the baby? Will the baby make it?" I heard the unsettling tones coming from his voice as one of the women tried their best to calm him down the pregnant woman's cries were heard in the background causing his concerned looks, "I assure you everything is alright, the baby is healthy and is ready to make its entrance onto the sight of the gods", As the words fell from the woman's perched slightly dry pink lips which put an ease to the Male. "Ást Mín", hearing her quivering voice call out towards the male when her sights set upon him, the male comes running over quickly as soon as he heard her call his nickname.
Falling on his knees beside their shared bed with her hand reaching out to him he successfully grabbed a hold to gradually smile at them two seeing each happily in love, "heart mín", he spoke softly unto her receiving a kiss on her wet forehead and tasting the faint salt taste on his lips, she felt his lips feeling the tension ease up feeling happy and upon the excitement ready to have this baby with the women prepared for the delivery of the baby. As they started the procedure, telling her to push as she did with her love holding her hand feeling the pressure she sent squeezing his hand while using all her strength to push forth while the other woman who was wiping the sweat from her forehead and neck gracefully, motivating her to continue with her pushing.
She almost succeeded in the delivery as the woman told her Just one more push to go the woman took a breather nodding in understanding keeping a tight grip on her love hand while he encouraged her that she was doing great giving him whispers in her ear and kisses on her forehead and cheek. Giving one last push she screamed out using all her strength and might before hearing a screeching cry of a baby, covered in its mother's vernix as the women who helped deliver the baby wrapped in a blue thick linen blanket cleaned the baby up from the white creamy transparent substance it was covered in. Holding the child in her arms she checks and sees a small smile that grows into a bright beautiful smile turning around to the couple as the tired mother and the anticipating father look back at the woman, "The Gods have blessed you with a baby girl!" Walking over to give the new parents their newborn daughter, seeing the beautiful radiant color of her skin that resembles the embers of the fire that still burns until it's only a speck of dust, with eyes like snow seeing the White like grey slate hues color of her eyes as there were silver streaks in her black milky hair earning a smile from her parents as her mother held her, "My Love shes beautiful", The Mother whispered towards to her love seeing the smile on his face as he slowly reached out wanting to hold her daughter to which The Mother lets him gently handing her over to him to his tall scrawny like stature held in his arms of embrace as he looks down to his daughter.
As the father held his newborn daughter starring her in awe flashes of visions started to appear in his mind for he was the seer with his shamanic abilities, seeing through these visions of a dark raven along with Valkyrie standing who was a goddess looking towards him before her eyes reverted to the baby giving him a nod before a flash as he saw an up close face with a man who was missing an eye speaking out to him saying "A Valkyrie rests on the rock in sleep, flickering fire flames about her with the sleep-thorn Ygg her erst did prick, other heroes she felled than he had willed, for her name of That Which Shall Be", Speaking with the deeped groggy tone of his voice speaking unto the man hearing the growls of the draugr in the background before his visions came to a clear where he comes back to his love and his daughter who was now calm after the cries she was speaking, The Father took one look at her, "I have a name that Odin himself have gifted me with, Through her beauty giving as she was blessed by Freyja herself, i have seen of our beautiful daughters future that will be an epic adventure but will be challenging that only her will have to figure out herself, for a name that comes from a Valkyrie, she rides to choose who shall be slain & govern the killings. I blessed the name Skuld Draugr coming from the youngest norn and powerful Valkyrie along with her dark aura of the strength of a Draugr. She will be one of the strongest women who will be the guide of men", the father spoke earning a smile from his love, loving the name Skuld Draugr but earning the sense of trepidation knowing what may come to him and her.
Midnight has fallen upon the couple after the delivery, The Mother and Father were fast asleep in their shared bed covered up in animal hides blankets as Skuld was in her made basinet who was peacefully sleeping until hearing in the distantce of men yells which caused the male to awake from his slumber hearing the rumbling sounds as they get closer seeing out of the window looking upon ball of light getting closer which were torches that were being carried by men, seeing the action caused the man to be afraid as he quickly woke up his dear love, grabbing a few things for her she was confused as to why he looked in the disarrayed state with confusion and grew worried in her, "My Beloved what wr-", As her words cut off short hearing the commotion outside before she came back from her love shoving her things in her face, "There no time to talk, you and Skuld need to leave Kattegat immediately", with his voice sounding scared hearing the shudder in his voice as there was no time to for an explanation as she picks up a now disturbed Skuld crying since her slumber was interrupted by her mother sudden lift into her arms as you could see the tear in her eyes falling from her face as they hugged and kissed each other one last time don't know if this is farewell forever as their eyes that were glassy from the tears looking at each other with their heart sinking one by one.
With her now running in the dark woods, she comes to a halt seeing from a distance their shared home was now being raided by Vikings the torches surrounded their home seeing them bring their beloved out of their own by force before they realized the wife & their daughter was not in there which her feet starts picking back up running once again now knowing she was gonna get hunted down heading down towards a vacant shore which she comes to seeing and empty boat, with no time to waste she gets in the boat placing down of what little belongings she had left while holding her daughter in the other arm, grabbing the oars started to move the boat with the gravity of the water she held her daughter close feeling the tears pouring from her face knowing her love will not be with him, and Skuld will not have her father watching her grow.
After a successful mission putting Skuld back to sleep the process of falling asleep herself, startled as she was when the boat hit something which caused her to wake up seeing land upon her as the sky returned to a bright light shining down her melanin skin she looked around seeing some people walking back with baskets of clothes or some carrying some food materials, she recognizes the place in the instant as she could smell the grassy mildew as she arrived in Götaland.
~793 AD, 3 Decades Later~
In the South of Svealand, in Scandinavia I heard the cheerful giggles of a little girl and bark coming from a dog seeing a now 3-year-old Skuld smiling from top to bottom playing with a fluffy rather big dog who was gray and white earning a smile from a woman who looked like she was in her mid-20s seeing how her golden brown wavy hair went all the way down to her back watching Skuld playing with the dog that seems to belong to the woman, She seems interested in my dog huh Skadi?, she spoke with her lips perched looking back at her shield maiden who was the mother of Skuld, as she looks upon her daughter given like playful at her nature, ever since upon arriving in götaland seeking shelter to which she was blessed to be picked by princess Aslaug to be her shield maiden and servant in return shelter for her and her child as Skadi learned how to use a sword by her father when she was a youngling which it grabbed her advantage as she became one of Aslaugs shield maiden. Coming back to the present, watching her daughter play making her smile remembering when she was just a baby, I do agree with you princess, As the words fell from her lips as for the other shield maidens that came along in protection of their beautiful princess Aslaug. "I wondered what it was like to bore children to see their cute-like stature growing until they grew strong among many men and women", Aslaug spoke with such curiosity while looking at Skuld, Skadi looked at Aslaug wondering what was going on in her mind before feeling her lips part, "your grace, it is like any parents who bore a child or children of their own, as the gods above have blessed them with beautiful kids that fill their heart with love and care, wanting for their kids to have the world see the beauty of kid. Will sacrifice anything to protect their own, I believe like Your grace parents when they had you princess", Skadi spoke like a true mother would, speaking from the heart of her soul as Aslaug looked over to Skadi giving her a lovely smile.
"I know your graces loved her parents by the way she will speak so highly of them while they feast with Odin in Valhalla", Skadi added knowing Aslaug loved being praised by others for her obsequious clever nature, before Aslaug stood up from her seat and getting undressed to bath in the clear river waters before her eyes. "Skuld!" Skadi called beckoning for her daughter to come, Skuld came to a halt from playing with Aslaug's dog to now finding herself running to her mother, hearing the cute giggles as she looked up seeing her mother who squatted down before her at eye level with her daughter, "While our princess bathes would you mind going out into the forest grabbing some black crowberry & red raspberry, knowing how you love when mommy fixes that sweet treat she always makes for you?", Hearing the words she was hearing her eyes lit up nodding in excitement as a brown linen pouch fell into Skulds hand before Skadi sends her off trusting in her daughter that she knows how to get back in safe arms.
Skulds now with instructions in the forest to find the berries she needs grabbing a handful before hearing upon her ears as she hears twigs snapping from a distance before she knew it that's when she turned around seeing upon her a man, whose eyes glittered like the oceans, when her visions started as her journey as a völva became to be...

Chapter Thirteen
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since the weddings Hvitserk had become determined to find out why Elsie was so angry with him. She no longer cuddled with him, instead keeping her body as close to the edge of the bed as possible. She ignored him throughout the day, and would pretend to already be asleep when he came home. After days of this Hvitserk had enough. Fairly drunk, he stumbled into their home where again, Elsie was pretending she was asleep. Hvitserk angrily tossed the furs off of her, turned her over so that she was laying on her back and crawled on top of her. He hovered menacingly over her.
“What do you want?” Elsie snarled through clenched teeth.
“Why are you behaving like a child?” Elsie almost gagged from the stench of alcohol on his breath as he spoke. “We were happily married a few days ago, now you despise me. What happened?”
Elsie gave him a look of disgust, refusing to answer his question. “TELL ME,” he scream.
“I saw you with the slave. The blonde one. I am not stupid, as I said before my affection for you  was a momentary lapse in judgement. This isn’t a marriage, it a business arrangement. And I think, from now on, we should keep it as such.”
Hvitserk's demeanor softened, and he rolled off of his wife so he was now sitting beside her. “I didn’t know that would hurt you, and I will never do it again. Not with Margarethe, not with anyone.”
“No need. I don’t care what you do. I’m not hurt, I’m not angry. I know what men do, Scottish men have mistresses all the time. It’s just… my father didn’t and growing up I was promised a marriage like my parents. I forgot that promise was broken when my father made his deal with Bjorn.” With that, she tucked herself back under the furs and turned her back to her husband to go to sleep. Hvitserk, however, didn’t get much sleep that night.

Olivia sat upon a boulder, drawing a landscape of Kattegat. However, her peacefulness was soon interrupted.
“Hello Princess Olivia,” Cella said. Olivia remembered her, she was the thrall that dressed her for the Viking wedding.
“Hello Cella. Can I help you?”
“Prince Sigurd has ordered me to accompany you throughout the days. He said you were lonely and having a hard time adjusting to life here.”
Olivia just smiled and nodded. She knew what Sigurd was doing, having Cella with her all day everyday would deter her from having a friendship with Harald. She felt the anger boil within her but she kept a calm demeanor, not wanting to take her emotions out on someone as sweet as Cella.
Olivia waited up for Sigurd to come home that night.
“Why are you still awake?” He asked when got into their bed.
“Is having a thrall become my shadow really necessary?”
“You’re the one who wants someone to talk to,” he smirked.
“I don’t understand you!” Olivia stood from the bed and began to shout. “You don’t want me and yet you won’t allow me to even speak to another man!”
Sigurd stood up as well. “I don’t need you being seen constantly with King Harald! Embarrassing me! Making a fool out of me!”
“You make a fool out of me everyday! You are always with Margarethe!” She spill out the thralls name with vitriol. “If you hate me so much, why don’t spend your nights with her as well!”
“I will!” Sigurd grabbed his clothes and stormed out of their house, slamming the door behind him.
* * * *
Per request from Ivar, Aslaug and Bridget began to spend time together. Aslaug hated Bridget, and Bridget hated her back. Aslaug insisted Bridget was a bad wife and was not keeping Ivar happy. And of course, it was Bridget’s fault that she was not with child.
Bridget had to bite her tongue form tell her mother-in-law that Ivar lacked the skill to make a baby and it was most certainly not her fault. They hadn’t tried again since the wedding night, Ivar was too scared of being embarrassed again. Instead each night he had his wife hold him tightly like she did that night. He found calmness and comfort in her arms, though she could not say the same.

Lagertha decided it was important to teach Leith sword fighting. It was not going well, but they were both enjoying their time together.
Once again Lagertha knocked the sword out of Leith’s hand. “You are excellent with the shield, but you lack strength.” She grabbed Leith’s thin arm, that was sore beyond belief, and let it flop back to her side, making both of the women laugh. Ending their lesson, they took a seat to catch their breathes.
“How is your marriage going, Bjorn is a lot like his father in some ways, so I’m sure it is not easy?”
Leith thought for a moment. “I think, for an arranged marriage, it is going well.”
“But?” Lagertha questioned.
“It is just still very awkward,” Leith paused, thinking if she wanted to say what was on her mind. “I fear — Bjorn may not like me. I would like us to be friends, to make this situation easier.”
“Oh darling,” Lagertha laughed. “Trust me, Bjorn likes you. Perhaps even more.”
Lagertha’s words lingered in her mind the rest of the day. Leith knew she and Bjorn needed to have an honest conversation when he returned home that night.

“I am sorry for accusing you the other night. I should have trusted you when you said you were with your sister.”
Greer turned in bed to her other side, becoming face to face with her husband. “Why didn’t you?”
“I do not have the most experience with women emotionally. I was worried about you, and I —,” Don’t let that Christian make you stupid brother. “I love you.”
“And I love you,” Greer smiled, pulling her Halfdan in for a kiss.
* * * * *
Ubbe had left for the day when Isla went into labor. Thralls flooded their house, preparing everything they needed and shouting instructions at Isla. The pain, the chaos, the noise was all too much for her. She mustered her strength and pushed the women out of the room, locking the door behind them.
“Princess Isla, open the door!” The eldest thrall, Agnes shouted and banged on the door. “We need to help you! The baby is coming early it is dangerous!”
Isla let out another agonizing scream, “I will do it myself! I do not want anyone to help me! I do not need help! AHHHHH!”
Agnes continued to banging, “Princess, if you do not open the door I will get your husband to break it down!”
“I am not letting anyone in here!”
Isla didn’t hear Agnes tell another thrall to go find Ubbe and tell him what was happening.
“AHHHHHHH!”

Hello there :) please could I request something for Vikings with a female reader if possible. Where the reader (a shieldmaiden) meets the ragnarssons for the first time after being taken in by Ragnar when her parents are killed, and they start developing feelings for her later on? 💙
Hey! Thought that making this into headcanons/preferences would be the best format, message me if you want a full work where I elaborate!🌺
🫀REQUESTS ARE OPEN🫀
Vikings preference: Falling for a shieldmaiden taken in by Ragnar
Tumblr media
Bjorn A little rough around the edges, at first - you're a complete stranger, after all. Maybe he criticizes your posture one day and you're more than willing to make him prove his 'superiority'. Whether you win or lose is not as important as the sole fact that you were a challenge for him, although he might not outright admit that. Despite being a shieldmaiden and Bjorn having witnessed your abilities first-hand, he still perceives you as a woman first - the burden of upbringing, one might say. Because of that, he often tries to fight your battles for you, both on the battlefield and outside of it. Most of the time it's small things: bringing you this, giving you that. He definitely might come off as overbearing at times but there's no malice in his heart - Bjorn genuinely believes he's doing the right thing. The downside is that even your stern words might not knock off his habits (the two of you fought numerous times about his overprotective attitude). That protective side of him comes out especially strong during cold winter months when he needs to be extra sure that you're well-fed and warm. In his hot and cold attitude, you find irrefutable proof of his affection. After all, what else if not love could bring warmth and care out of a man known for his dauntlessness and reserved attitude? Bjorn puts his fondness into words in a very peculiar manner: suggesting your possible gains. In other terms, he hints at all the goods you'd have and the shortages you wouldn't suffer if he could have your hand. See that pile of wood that's going to last you for at least a month? Or the furs on your bed that are just enough to stay warm on a freezing winter night? Without half-truths and subtext, Bjorn assures you that he could provide you so much more. Although 'could' should be read as 'wants to' - a desire he's determined to fulfil only if you agree to be his.
Tumblr media
Ubbe The one who actually talks to you first, with no expectations or prejudice. Even if he did have those, he's capable of looking past them and making a fair judgement only after getting to know you. At first he's a little uncomfortable with the situation and your person because you're kind of like a sister but not really? That apprehension doesn't last long, however: he's a little too smitten with you. To his own surprise, your presence makes the long absence of his father a little easier to bear - Ragnar didn't leave on a whim, he had a reason to do so and it was a good reason. If the other Ragnarsons treat you with malice, thinking of you as the sole reason they had to grow up fatherless, Ubbe is always ready to step in and de-escalate the situation. In some way, he's similar to Bjorn in expressing his affection in the sense of being protective. Ubbe perceives you as a woman, a woman he loves to be exact, and only then a warrior, despite getting a taste of your skills on his own. Just like his half-brother, he'd try to do things for you, deal with the mundane burdens of everyday life; he only cares about you. The thing that sets them apart is Ubbe's willingness to stand back - once he knows you can stand your ground, he lets go a little, although reluctantly. Another thing is that he already acts like your husband despite being yet to earn that title: always being in your vicinity, fighting any men who try to woo you, thinking ahead and gifting you anything you might need in the near future. Whenever his training alongside his brothers, Ubbe tends to tease them saying that you're better than them. Whether that is true or just brotherly spitefulness is yet to be determined. When the moment comes and Ubbe confesses his affections, he's very straight-forward, telling you how much you mean to him.
Tumblr media
Hvitserk Curious and fascinated - you're pretty and courageous. Even if you end up rejecting him (a possibility he doesn't think is realistic), you seem like a great person to be around. He's friendly from day one. Keeps hinting at his romantic interest in you through smooth, sublime and yet unambiguous remarks, so there is no doubt about his intentions. In an attempt to spend more time with you, Hvitserk offered to join you in training. Clashing swords and breadth-of-hair ducks were not enough to stop his flirting (you had this growing suspicion that he's also unnecessarily touchy - not that you were one to complain). The only difference from his daily sweet talk was that with a sword in his hand, Hvitserk's words became vividly more explicit. Some of them caught you off guard but once the surprise washed away, you realized you had nothing against those generous offers becoming true. Even if his brothers are also interested in you, he doesn't see them as a competition or a threat of any sort. His approach wouldn't be a surprise to anyone who had even once seen you two together - there was no chance any other Ragnarson could sweep you off your feet. Truth be told, you knew Hvitserk's feelings before he told you, although it should be clarified that he didn't explicitly confess his affections: during a quite intimate moment, in bed and under furs, he suddenly asked you to marry him. Relationship-wise, out of all the Ragnarsons Hvitserk is the one to treat you the most equally to him.
Tumblr media
Sigurd Begins to be interested in you simply because his brothers were. Then he noticed your ambivalence towards Ivar and how much it was pissing the youngest brother off and Sigurd was instantly on board - he might yet find an ally in you. Out of the Ragnarssons, he is the most invisible brother and so he didn't quite expect to pique your interest. To his surprise, you're the one to accost him, asking about living in Kattegat and the family reputation he has to hold up. Not to mention all the prince's responsibilities he has to suffer. From your own words, Sigurd learned that, just like him, you're not one for big crowds and front rows, preferring to stray from the eye of the storm that so often seemed to emerge around Ragnar and his sons. He finally found someone who understood his perspective and not only that - they shared it. The two of you are often disappearing somewhere together and the general population of Kattegat quite quickly catches on but you and Sigurd care little about those rumours. Definitely spent hours upon hours coming up with a wax poetic ballad about you. He put himself in one of the verses describing his growing fondness for you. Luckily for him, he won't have to change the verse about the shieldmaiden loving some guy named Sigurd back.
Tumblr media
Ivar Acts like he doesn't care and tries to make himself believe that mainly because deep inside he had immediately dismissed the possibility of you being interested in him. You've heard stories of course but a certain degree of scepticism is a trait of a good warrior - it keeps you level-headed. Once when you were sitting on the pier, enjoying a moment of solitude, Ivar approached you only to ask about his father. After all, you'd spent more time with Ragnar than he did, even if he wasn't your actual parent. While sharing stories about the famous Ragnar Lothbrok, Ivar noticed that you're neither apprehensive nor fearful of him. In a way, it upsets him - he found himself in a situation where he doesn't have the upper hand. But this surprising and wholly unwelcome vulnerability didn't backfire. Truthfully, the longer you talked about the legend of Ragnar Lothbrok, the more Ivar wished you would stop talking about his father and simply talk about yourself. Except for his parents, you were the only person whose presence he didn't completely detest and Ivar was yet to make an opinion on how that made him feel. He definitely hates seeing you interact with his brothers as he naively thought that he was the only recipient of your sympathies and it's exactly that lack of exclusivity that makes him go out on a limb and make less-than-ambiguous remarks that you happily reciprocate. Sometimes, when he can't sleep at night, Ivar climbs onto his father's throne and dwells on various fantasies of glory and bloodshed. In those dreams, there's always a place for you - a brave and beautiful shieldmaiden that rides into battle by his side and gives birth to his children, who go on to become kings, emperors and conquerors.

Series Summary: After falling head first the reader wakes up face to face with a group of strangely dressed men who look eerily like the vikings she studies
Part one Part two

Tumblr media
You weren’t too sure what to expect when Ragnar said they would show you hospitality, but this was definitely something alright. You’d been given a dress that fit into the time period a bit better and made you stick out less than you had before. well, that was if you ignored the fact your hair was completely different from everyone else and everyone, but the Ragnarsson’s took at least three steps back whenever you approached.
When his brothers realised Ivar had been sneaking in to talk to you their protests began, “That’s not fair!”
“Why didn’t you tell us she could understand us?”
“Why did she talk to you and not us?”
You didn’t even feel the need to mention he’d bribed you with food. Ivar was good enough at arguing for himself. meanwhile as they bickered at the dinner table Bjorn sat at the other end staring at you the whole time. it defiantly wasn’t completely unsettling. Ragnar meanwhile was asking you a million questions you didn’t know how to answer.
“So how does a lighter work?”
“A spark happens when you press down and lights the gas,” you tried to explain while you ate your stew.
Ragnar nodded as he thought it over, “I think I understand. But what is a gas?”
“Uh…”  you said but Bjorn cut you off, effectively silencing everyone at the same time.
“How do we know you’re not a witch?” he said making Ivar roll his eyes and for once Ubbe and Ivar seemed to agree with something.
“If she was a witch surely, she would’ve escaped by now?” Ubbe sighed.
“Besides,” Hvitserk said, cheeks pink from his fourth glass of mead, “She’s far too pretty to be a witch,” he said, throwing a wink your way making your own cheeks heat up. The way Ivar glared at Hvitserk though put you on edge.
It was Sigurd turn to roll his eyes at his brother, “You’re a pig. And besides she hasn’t done anything. How do I know you won’t kill me in my sleep?”
“If anyone is going to do that it will be Ivar,” Ubbe said so nonchalantly you felt your jaw drop.
Especially when Ivar chimed in, “This is true,”
You could see the growing annoyance on Bjorn’s face as his younger brothers had their petty fights, something you would soon have to get used to. Clearly Aslaug was used to it however as she sank more into her wine. You had to admit the wine at least was nice. “I don’t know how I can earn your trust Bjorn, but I swear on my life I didn’t come to hurt anyone,”
You half expected him to laugh or roll his eyes at you but instead he cocked his head to the side, “Who told you, my name?”
You watched as everyone paused what they were doing to turn to look at you. “How did you know any of our names?” Sigurd asked.
You debated lying, saying Ivar told you but you didn’t feel like that was a good hole to dig. Instead, you swallowed hard, “Well everyone knows your name. you’re Bjorn ironside. Son of Ragnar. The Ragnarssons are famous,” you tried to say it nonchalantly while being very aware each one of them had a knife or axe.
However, flattery seemed to work, “And me as well?” Ragnar asked, a spark behind his eyes, “After all I am Ragnar Lodbrok,” he said making his sons all roll their eyes.
“Well of course. there are legends about you. they write tv shows about your lives,”
They all seemed so proud of themselves, even Aslaug had a smile behind her cup. You felt satisfied with your excuse until Bjorn asked, “What is a tv show?”
“Uh…”
-
Later that night Ivar showed you to a room that looked far less like a prison than the one you’d been in before. “We’ve got your-whatever these are,” Ubbe said as he and Sigurd walked into the room with a bag each and Hvitserk came in behind them with a flagon of wine.
“They’re just bags,” you said as you took them and moved to sit on the makeshift bed they had.
Privacy clearly wasn’t a thing here as all four boys sat down and began passing the wine around, “What’s in that one?” Sigurd asked, pointing to your guitar case.
You opened it and pulled it out, “Is it some kind of lute?” Hvitserk asked but you could see Sigurd was the keenest.
“I guess?” you said, placing it on your lap and gently strumming the strings, “It’s called a guitar,”
“Play us something?” Ubbe asked before taking a swig out the wine.
You sighed as you looked at the strings and tried to think of a song before your fingers found the strings and you began to strum.
“I’m like the water when your ship rolled in that night,
Rough on the surface, but you cut through like a knife,” you began to sing Taylor swift softly as you played Willow. All four boys seemed mesmerised as you sang and even Ivar stayed quiet until the last night, “I’m begging for you to take my hand,
Wreck my plans, that’s my man,” you finished, placing your hand over the strings and looking up to finally meet their eyes.
“That was beautiful,” Sigurd said, “Did you write that?”
“Yes,” you said without thinking. After all a little white lie never hurt? Besides its not like Taylor would know or anyone could prove you wrong, “Yes I did,”
“You’re very talented,” Ubbe said, passing you the wine.
You looked at it sceptically before finally taking a drink. It’s not like they’d need to poison you anyway. You were already screwed. You all began to drink and laugh the night away as you played a few more songs on the guitar, even letting the boys try have a shot. What you didn’t see however was Bjorn standing beside the door to your room, smiling softly whenever you sang.
-
The next day Ubbe offered to give you a tour of Kattegat so you could get to know the place. “This is the market,” he said as a little girl ran away from you to her mother making you bite back a laugh, “Sorry about that. They’ll be less frightened of you soon,”
You chuckled at his words making a smile stretch on his face, “Its ironic. Out of everyone here I’m the least frightening one,”
“I don’t know so much,” he said. You narrowed your eyes at him with a curious smile making him chuckle, “Weve never met anyone like you. you are so…” he paused searching for the right word,” rare,”
“That’s the nicest thing I think someone has ever said to me,” you said.
Ubbe gave you a soft smile as he led you around the stalls. You tried to refuse it, but he did buy you a knife, promising to show you how to use it just encase. Even the way he insisted made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
As you were walking around the market you did bump into someone. “Bjorn!” Ubbe called to his brother who wore an uncomfortably stoic look as he walked over. “I was just showing her round Kattegat,”
Bjorn nodded, his eyes scanning your frame, “Good. Can’t have you getting lost now, can we? Think my father might have a fit if we lost you,” something about the way his eyes studied you had a heat creeping up the back of your neck.
“I hope all his questions don’t bother you,” Ubbe said, giving you a sorry smile.
It was true that every conversation with Ragnar was like an interrogation. He wanted to know everything you could tell him about the future and honestly you didn’t know how to explain how a television worked. “I don’t mind. Its sweet,” you said making them both chuckle, “What?”
“Most people would not describe my father as sweet,” Bjorn said, a smile finally cracked onto his lips.
“She’s also friends with Ivar so she may not be fully right in the head,” Ubbe teased.
“Ivars not that bad,” you rolled your eyes, but both their eyes seemed to bulge out their skulls, “He’s a lot nicer when people aren’t constantly picking on him,” you half joked though you did hate how they teased him. especially Sigurd who whenever Ivar wasn’t around was kind but whenever he walked into the room you could cut the air with a knife.
Ubbe just tutted at you, “Oh you have much to learn sweet, foolish, girl. It’s a good thing we found you when we did,” You did your best to roll your eyes and blow him off but for the rest of the day you found your mind wandering. What would it be like to date a Viking?

Reflecting, on him & I [ubbe fic]
Ubbe's wife watches him from the window, playing with their children. She cannot help but reflect on what he means to her.
Tumblr media
I admired Ubbe.
I watched his braid dance in the air as he played with our children in the sand. The sun shining, a gentle zephyr, calm sea.
When I gave birth, crying out in ancient female pain, he was there. And when the midwife pulled out our baby to reveal a daughter, his eyes glistened with tears. Tears of joy.
And the same with our son.
He took pride in them, and spent the days teaching them things. How to find the fullest berry bush in the woods, how to carve the sharpest arrows, how to sing Nordic songs. But he worried for them, too. He feared the day of our son’s first raid. He feared that men would covet our daughter.
These are the things he would tell me before we slept at night. We laid together each night, and I traced his cheekbones, like knives, lit by moonlight. He held me closely to him, his arms unyielding but delicate.
I was drawn to him when I was young. He was Prince, and I was invisible. I feared that I would remain so forever.
Until one day. I was carrying a bucket of water, on top of my head, when I tripped. It came crashing down, turning the dirt to mud and soaking my dress. Hot tears of frustration rushed to my eyes. But before I could weep-
“Do you need help?” A voice asked.
He stood there in front of me. Blue eyes staring into mine, quizzically.
After a beat, he nodded to himself. “I’ll get you water.”
What… the fuck… is happening?
He picked the bucket from the fresh mud and headed off.
Nearly every day after that, he appeared. Flowers in a bundle on my doorstep. Wolf skins, for warmth. Skeins of the softest yarn. A teasing flirt. A thoughtful conversation. A kiss.
Eventually, we married. All the sudden, I was the most visible woman in Kattegat. And these moments, at the end of our days, when we lay alone together, became precious.
I stare into his oceanic eyes, stormy as seas, clear as skies. I smell his scent, wild like the woods. I touch his face, scarred skin soothing at my caress. I feel his body pressed against mine, his heat welcome in the winter. His rough palms lay on my stomach, where I have held his children. His soft lips kiss my cheek and his beard tickles my neck. He whispers things in my ear. That he loves me, that the gods made me with him in mind.
I admire Ubbe for he is good and kind, but he does not bend to the will of any man. I must be favored by some god, for Ubbe is the man who rocks me in his arms, night after night.

You could take a shot where the oc is a slave and meets Ubbe while he is married to Margrethe and ends up getting involved with him, and this generates a child. Margrethe goes crazy and begins to threaten oc and her son, when Ubbe finds out about getting angry and protective.
Do you still remember this ask? I hope you do... I'm so sorry it took me so long to finish this, about your other ask, i was thinking i could write not a one shot, but a short fic cause it's so good and it needs details i cant give if its just a one shot, tell me what you think ok? either way, hope you like this one, hope it turned out the way you imagined, enjoy ♥

“Oh gods!” You moaned one more time.
Your body was bent over the table, gown hiked up on your waist while Ubbe pounded behind you quickly, his hands with a firm grip on your hips while yours held onto the table like your life depended on It. His hips slammed against yours making the sound of skin slapping against skin echo through the walls.
“Sing to me, little bird.” He begged for your moans like he begged every time, like he wasn’t dragging the sounds from you with every thrust of his hips.
You mewled, whined and moaned, gripping at the table with full force while his hands left your hip, rubbed against your back for a moment before taking the knife he still had on the back of his trousers and with one stroke he tore the dress in two, exposing the skin of your back which he rubbed, dragging his hands up your shoulders and pulling you up until your back hit his chest, the new, strange angle, making his cock reach your sweet spot and making you see white stars behind your eyelids.
“I love to hear your singing.” He whispered in your ear while both of his hands grabbed the front of your gown that was already loosened up and pulled down, exposing your breasts to the cold air of your house, your nipples were hard and sensitive when he touched them, tugging at the little nubs with the tip of his fingers. “Sweet, sweet sounds...”
You raised your hands and hugged his neck, eyes rolling to the back of your head as you felt him speeding up his thrusts, you knew he was close. He grunted low in your ear, dragging you to the edge, making the coil on your lower stomach snap all of a sudden and a loud moan escaped through your lips. He followed close behind, coming inside you for the second time that night, filling you up with his seed.
“How am I supposed to go home now?” You asked as you tried to hold together the rags of your dress.
After straightening out his clothes he covered your shoulders with his fur, protecting your upper body.
“This can’t keep happening.” You mumbled, holding the fur around your body.
“And yet here we are.” He answered, fingers touching your chin, raising your head so you could look him in the eyes. “I can’t stay away from you.”
His touch stayed with you until the next morning, burning on your skin like wildfire.
You couldn’t stay away from him either, answering his calls anytime he asked, melting into his touch every time his hands met your skin. You were incapable of saying no to him, incapable of keeping your distance.
Ubbe was a menace, you knew that since the first time you saw him. Aslaug bought you as a slave and you tried to serve the household in peace, you didn’t want trouble, let alone trouble with the princes, but that was before his gaze followed you around the great hall while you worked, before his eyes always seemed to find you through the crowd, lingering until it became unbearable and you had to look back.
He tried to be subtle about It, tried to hide behind his cup and tried to pay attention to the conversation going around, but at the end of the night, after everyone else was gone, he found you in the kitchen. He would talk to you for hours while you finished your chores, sometimes he even helped you a little. His lingering touches seemed to ignite a fire inside your body and were the end of you, before you knew, you were  taken.
“I’m with child.” You said It one night, laying on his chest. He looked at you and smiled big, his eyes sparkling blue when he looked at you.
“The gods had finally blessed me with a child.”
“It’s not a blessing, Ubbe.” You sat down by his side, looking at him. “What am I going to say to everybody?”
“You don’t have to say anything, I’m going to take care of you.”
“What about Margrethe?”
“She’s not who I thought she was, I don’t love her.”
“This is not right.” You mumbled.
“Come here.” He asked, holding your hand and pulling you back to his chest, you went with It, hugging his waist while he caressed your hair. “I’ll talk to her. I want you.”
The next day, you didn’t hear the footsteps behind you or noticed the sound of Margrethe’s heavy breathing, but felt a pair of hands pulling on your hair.
“You stole my husband!” She screamed, throwing your body on the floor.
Margrethe dragged you from the kitchen towards the great hall, pulling you by the hair. You screamed trying to get rid of her hands, fearing for the baby growing inside of you
“I will kill you!” Margrethe stated, throwing you in the middle of the great hall, the commotion catching the attention of the other servants who were too scared to do anything and didn’t even understand what was happening.
“Leave me alone!” You screamed.
She sat on your hips, holding your arms under her knees while you struggled under her weight. Margrethe hit you on the face two or three times before someone finally stepped in, taking her body from the top of you. You quickly crawled back away from her, face turned totally red in utter embarrassment, tears gathering on the corners of your eyes as you looked around searching for Ubbe.
“I will never leave you alone.” She screamed back at you. “You will never be free to be with him, you’ll never be happy!”
You ran away from the great hall, tears streaming down your face, clouding your vision, you ran blindly until you bumped into something firm, a pair of hands held your shoulders and you looked up, pale blue eyes looking worriedly at you while trying to calm you down.
“Little bird.” He called you, holding your face between his hands, touching your wet cheeks. “What happened?”
“She cursed me! She said I’ll never be happy!” You whined.
“Who? Margrethe?” He asked with a frown and you nodded. “I’ll talk to her.”
“NO MORE TALKING!” You scolded. “She humiliated me in front of everybody, she cursed me! We should end this before it gets worse.”
“What are you saying?”
“She said she’ll kill me, Ubbe…” You mumbled before moving away from him, untangling your body from his arms. “It’s better If we stay away.”
Months had passed since that talk with Ubbe, Aslaug freed you and helped you run away, gave you a farm where you could hide away from Margrethe, every now and then she would visit to check on you.
“You’re bigger every time I see you.” Aslaug joked, hugging you tightly. “It’s almost time.”
“Yeah…” You smiled shyly.
“Ubbe is worried, he wants to come and see you.”
“I don’t know…” You fumbled through the kitchen while she sat at the table.
“He misses you. It’s been months, Margrethe won’t be a problem anymore.”
“What happened to her?”
“She’s crazy, she’s been talking to herself, wandering.”
“She’s more dangerous then.”
“Ubbe can protect you.”
“What If he sails away?”
“You’ll stay with me.”
You missed him too, missed him so much. Every time the child moved inside your belly, every time it kicked when you talked, you thought about him, about his reaction, he missed so much of your pregnancy already you felt guilty about It, he said he wanted to be part of your life but you closed that door.
“Let him come. He wants to be with you for the birth.” Aslaug insisted and looked at her. “He’s the father of your child and wants to be there for you when the time comes.”
Ubbe came the next morning, you saw him walking towards your house by the beach, his shoulders brushed and head low, he seemed tired and sad, but as soon as his eyes met yours, his face completely lit up and he smiled. You felt warm all over, like your body missed his eyes on you and you gently rubbed your belly while waiting for him to reach you.
“Little bird…” He mumbled, a few feets away from the opened door of your house where you stood waiting for him.
You moved to the side and silently asked him to come in, he obeyed quickly and you closed the door behind his back. When he turned to you, his face was focused on your belly, his arms along his body while he closed his hands in fists, like he was using all his strength to keep himself from touching you.
“I missed you.” He simply said, his eyes following up your body ‘til he found your face. “Are you good?”
“I am.” You answered shyly. “We are.”
He took a few steps towards you and you took the same steps back, his face fell, his smile died on his face.
“Are you?” You asked him and he nodded. “You hungry?” You walked past him and started fumbling in the kitchen. “I can make you something.”
“No… Can we talk?”
“Sure…”
“Little bird… Look at me.”
“What?”
“Sit with me.”
You obeyed, both of you sitting side by side at the kitchen table, he looked at you for a moment and before he said anything his hand reached for your belly, softly touching your swollen frame. Your whole body lit up like a fireplace, like the warmth from his touch was everything you needed, a familiar sensation of relief washed over you when you felt his hand on your body, a sensation you didn’t know you needed until you finally felt it. He rubbed your belly gently and just like magic your baby kicked against his touch, making his face contort with a smile.
“I want you to come back with me to Kattegat.” He simply said, his hand still on you.
“Ubbe…”
“This is nonsense. I love you, you love me, you’re carrying my child, we shouldn’t be away from each other.”
“I-I… What about Margrethe?”
“She’s more dangerous to herself than she is to anybody else.”
“Aslaug told me…”
“You don’t have to hide.”
“She promised to kill me.”
“I will never let anything happen to you.”
You covered his hand with yours and sighed heavily, looking away from his face, trying to avoid his gaze, but he touched your face with his free hand and made you look at him.
“I want our baby to be born where it’s safe, away from the city, away from Margrethe.”  You mumbled. “Please.”
Ubbe leaned towards you and held your face with both of his hands, pulling you into a kiss that you happily corresponded, kissing him back. It was different from every other kiss you shared, was sweet and calm, filled with worry. He hugged you tightly and you laid your head on his shoulder.
“Please.” You repeated.
He didn’t answer, meaning you would come back to that conversation later, but he didn’t insist on taking you away before the birth.
Ubbe kept coming to visit you everyday until he finally decided to stay with you. You were on the last days of your pregnancy and It could happen at any time when he decided to stay and for the first time you felt like you could raise a family with him. To feel his presence around the farm was everything you ever wished for.
You watched him fondly from the door when you felt a sharp pain on your lower abdomen, making you lean forward with your hands on your belly.
“Ubbe…” You mumbled as you felt something wet coming down your legs. “Ubbe!” You caught his attention, his face dropped and he ran to you.
“Are you alright?” He asked as he wrapped his arms around you, stopping you from falling to your knees.
“I guess it’s time…” You murmured, looking up at him with a weak smile, he widened his eyes.
“I’ll go find my mother…” He told you while helping you inside, taking you to the bed and helping you while you laid down.
“Don’t leave me.”
“I’ll be right back, be strong.” He kissed your forehead and left through the door.
By the time he came back, you were already covered in a thin layer of sweat, your hair glued to your dampen face, cheeks flushed, body trembling. Ubbe appeared one more time by your side and you felt while two delicate hands touched your knees, that’s when you noticed Aslaug’s presence.
“I’m here little bird…” He reassured you, sitting by your side on the bed.
“Ubbe…” You whined.
“You’re going to be alright.” Aslaug told you while holding up the skirt of your dress, exposing yourself to her.
Ubbe held your hand firmly, leaning over you to rub his lips on your wet forehead, covering you in warm praises, telling you how proud he was of you, how strong you were. You used all your strength to push your baby out, your chest moving up and down with your heavy breathing, body arching while you grunted under your breath. Every new push made you scream and cry in pain. He looked from you to his mother, worried It was taking too long.
“One more time, little bird… One more time.”
You pressed his hand with yours and screamed louder than before, almost sitting down ‘til you finally pushed your baby out, his cries filled your home and your ears, and you smiled weakly as you watched Aslaug handing the baby to Ubbe.
“It’s a boy.” She announced proudly and he sat back by your side. “You blessed me with a boy.”
The days in the farm were easy, with your boy growing up stronger each day, you lived the family life you always wanted, to watch Ubbe holding the baby while playing warmed up your heart.
“Mother wants to see him.” Ubbe told you that morning, a tiny smile on his face as he watched while the baby held his big finger.
“She can come anytime she wants, I’ll prepare something for us.” You answered without looking at him.
“She wants us to go to Kattegat.” He told you and you widened your eyes, stared at him in panic. “She told me Margrethe is gone, left for a few months now and no one had known anything about her since then.”
“Are you sure?” You asked suspiciously and he nodded.
It took you a few minutes to digest the information, but you eventually agreed with him and both of you left the farm, your first time since you got there. You were nervous, but Ubbe held your hand the entire time, holding little Æirik in his arms. As soon as you got there, you saw a few familiar faces but you were confident enough to walk by his side, the few weird looks you got were quickly repeled by his firm stare.
Aslaug received you on the great hall and immediately took Æirik in her arms, showing the baby around with the biggest smile, Ubbe sat at the table pulling you into his lap, bringing you into the conversation with his brothers, but you never really stopped following Aslaug around, just checking on her with the baby.
For a moment nothing was really bothering you, the conversation going around was actually very calm, the voices mingling together as you talked to Hvitserk, laughing over a stupid joke he made until you looked around and lost sight of Aslaug.
“Where’s your mother?” You murmured against Ubbe’s ear catching his attention.
“She’s probably back there.” He pointed over the doors to the rooms and you frowned.
“I’m going to see if she’s alright.” You untangled yourself from his arms and walked towards the rooms.
At first you were just confused, looking for Aslaug just to know if she needed any help with the baby, but when you saw her body lying unconscious on the ground, you felt your heart race.
“Aslaug!” You called for her kneeling on her side, turning her body so you could see her face. A deep cut on her forehead letting you know she was hurt by someone else.
You heard baby cries coming from outside and immediately ran to the back door, just in time to watch a silhouette running in the dark. The blond hair was the first thing you noticed, and you knew who that person was.
You came back running to the great hall, screaming on your way to make everybody stop what they were doing.
“SHE TOOK MY BABY!” You screamed in panic, running towards Ubbe who looked at you with a frown. “She hit Aslaug in the head and she took him! SHE TOOK HIM!”
Ubbe got up and held your shoulders, he kissed your forehead before running to the back, his brothers followed him and so did their man. You felt a pair of hands around your body and you looked back, Torvi was hugging you tightly, trying to comfort you as you cried in despair.
Aslaug was brought inside by Freydis who helped her sitting back on her throne, already waking up but still a little dizzy, when her stare finally focused on you she busted out crying, hands reaching for yours as she mumbled:
“I’m so sorry! I’m so sorry!”
You kneeled in front of her, holding her hands with yours and calmed her down:
“It’s not your fault… It’s not your fault!”
Meanwhile Ubbe ran through the woods followed closely by his brothers and his men, all of them looking for any sign of the baby. When they finally reached the beach, he found Margrethe by the sea, the baby crying in her arms while she looked straight in his eyes.
“Margrethe…” He called her name, slowly walking towards her.
“You left me…” She mumbled, moving her gaze from him to the baby. “You left me for this, because I couldn’t give you a son!”
“No, it’s not like this, please, let’s talk.”
“You wanted a child and I couldn’t give you one, that’s why you chose her.”
“Please, give me him, we can talk through this, don’t hurt him.”
“Hurt him? You think I want to hurt him?”
“Why did you steal him?”
“Wanted to make you see that I can be a good mother too, you can accept me back if we have him! You don’t need the witch, she already gave you a son, I know you love me!”
“Margrethe, give me him, please…”
As Ubbe walked towards her, she took the same steps back, walking into the ocean. He feared for his son’s life, he didn’t want to scare her away.
“Come back to me, please?! Come here…” He opened his arms trying to invite her in. “Come here…”
As she convinced herself he was accepting her call, she walked over to him, a weak smile on her face as she finally had the chance she always wanted. Ubbe received her in his arms, held her and tried to get the baby from her arms, which she allowed. When the baby was finally in his arms, Ivar had her chest under his aim and released the arrow that hit her in the heart. Her body fell back on the water while Ubbe looked at her with widened eyes.
“What have you done?” He asked in shock, looking at Ivar.
“I saved your life, you can thank me later.”
When they finally came back, you ran towards Ubbe who quickly handed you your son, who you hugged tightly against your chest. Heavy tears coating his little head as you kept crying and kissing his face.
“What happened to Margrethe?” You asked between cries.
“She’s gone.” Ivar answered from behind Ubbe’s back and you looked at him in shock.
“Is she dead?” You asked with widened eyes, looking from Ivar to Ubbe and Ubbe nodded. “Is it over?”
“It is.” Ubbe answered before hugging you, rubbing your back and kissing the crown of your head. “It’s over, little bird.”
