Book of Hours UI Scale Fix (text too small)
For anyone who struggles to read the text because it is too small for their devices or eyes etc. You can increase the UI Scale beyond 100%. Open the games files, and click on the following folders. bh_Data -> StreamingAssets -> bhcontent -> core -> settings Replace the contents of settings.json with the content of the pastebin below. I've added a 125% UI Scale option. For those that want to do it manually, you can just edit the values in the ScreenCanvasSize section by comparing the two files.

Oh look, it seems everyone has been opted into the unfortunate "experiment" now. For everyone who has been blissfully using the old UI up until now, welcome to hell :)
Do you not like hell? Do you want to leave and crawl back up into the sunlight of the old UI? Well, have I got a link for you! A beautiful tumblr user (who is not me) has gone and fixed things beautifully for you already: https://github.com/enchanted-sword/dashboard-unfucker
You will need to have Tampermonkey installed on your browser of choice, and once that's done, just go to the github link above, and peruse the readme to install. And voila! You have your old dash back!
The authors of XKit Rewritten said during the experiments that at the time, since this was an "experiment" they weren't going to implement anything to revert to the old UI (although who knows if they'll do it now). And the dashboard unfucker has worked beautifully enough for me to where I genuinely couldn't tell if they had ended the experiment or not.

if anyone is wondering why loading screens seem to break and show the grey llama image instead of the plumbob, it's because they changed the instance number of one of the plumbob image assets from 6aec0ad1d1ed59c2 to 6aec09d1d1ed580a.
Tumblr media
yeah, a simple change in the instance number is all you need to make a UI mod break, among a couple of other things 🥰 this happens if your loading screen mod only includes the ScaleFormGFX file (where you change the background) and doesn't include the plumbob image assets that has the old instance #.
how it works:
Mod includes an old GFX file and its associated image asset(s) w/ the old instance # -> UI doesn't break, game reverts to the old loading screen as a result. (Think of TMEX's Clean UI that keeps the old main menu design.)
Mod includes only the old GFX file, while the image asset w/ new instance # comes from the game files' itself -> UI breaks, there's now a disconnect between the old GFX file and the new image asset.
(more details on why/how ui mods break the way they do at some other time)
so in theory, if you are to import all of the older plumbob image assets (before 22 Oct update) into your loading screen mod and keep the old instance numbers as they were, your loading screen will "fix" itself because the GFX file in your mod can now find the image asset that it was tied to, or as stated on the 2nd point above, revert to an old version of the loading screen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(plumbob looks janky because I didn't use the old image assets and used the new ones instead)
anyway. off I go to update my ui mods and come back in a few days 🫠

Alright so two days ago my battery DRAINED like crazy. Like, it was almost dead by 4 pm where it usually has at LEAST 50%, but usually more than 60%. This is after the UI 7.0 update, universally hated.
Bonus Note: to turn off the stupid separate notifications/other panel thing, swipe down on the notification bar → click the edit button (the pencil) → click "panel settings" (top left) → change from "separate" to "together"
I went into my battery to see what was draining it...
Lo and behold, it's AI shit that nobody wants ✨
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BUT don't panic, I figured out how to fix it! (Cut here so it doesn't clog up feeds) :)
You need to go to settings → apps and then click the filter button (see below if you don't know where it is, drawn very shakily in blue) and select "Show system apps"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To find our culprit, scroll down to the "P" apps, and click on "Personal Data Intelligence". Here's where it's draining your battery: the permissions that it automatically accesses for no reason but to (presumably) put AI stuff/options on there!
Clear the data first, I don't know if it actually did something but it made me feel better.
Now deny all of the permissions it has access to. It's going to show a pop up every time claiming that features of your device (AI features) won't work as intended and you're going to click "deny anyway" for ALL of them.
I don't know if it affected anything, but I also: blocked notifications, set default to other apps so that it wouldn't open, turned off background data usage (in the Mobile Data section)
Also, don't forget to make sure it can't change your system settings!! I don't know what it wants to change, but it might turn the permissions back on and continue draining your battery if you allow it to change system settings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While you can't do it with this, with other apps you can change the battery usage to "restricted", meaning it will not run in the background (as much) and use less battery!
Here's the results from today, I have used it less than yesterday but it didn't even show up on the battery usage list so I think I fixed it!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've also done this process and/or deactivated (bolded ones are for sure AI or similar stuff) (these are my personal preference): AI Wallpaper, Android System Intelligence, Avatar Editor, Avatar Stickers, Bixby, Bixby Vision, Customization Service, Drawing Assist, Galaxy Avatar, Galaxy editing service, Galaxy Themes Service, Game Booster, Game Optimizing Service, Gaming Hub, Gemini, Google Location History, Google Play Services for AR, Hey Google Hotword, all of the "Knox" stuff, LiveEffectService, MDMApp, Meet Installer, Meta App Installer, Meta App Manager, Meta Services, MhsAiService, Modes and Routines, OK Google Hotword, Recommended Apps, Reminder, Samsung Checkout, Samsung Cloud, Samsung Cloud Assistant, Samsung Editing Assets, Samsung Intelligence Voice Services, Samsung Internet, everything with "Smart" in the beginning of the title, Video Effects, Voice Wake-Up, aaaaand WiFiAiService
Please let me know if there are any other AI apps or annoying system apps that I can turn off that I missed!

ao3 text threads, 2025
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i made an extended version of my cyberpunk text threads tool with themes that emulate different messaging interfaces, and the ability to customize the colors, fonts etc. i've seen at least one person on ao3 who was using the "minimal" interface for non-cyberpunk fics, so i thought i'd generalize it a bit more!
you can also now add centered, freeform timestamps (ie "Yesterday" and "Today" in the image above), hide the per-message timestamps, and/or use a 12hr format instead of the 24h-with-seconds format
on neocities ->
i'm working on adding an avatars feature too :3 (edit: avatars have been added)
and here's a live preview of how these display on ao3!

On "gender fraud" and against the "Real Identities" defense of trans people
Trans people are often accused of committing "gender fraud." Sometimes this accusation is made in the sexual context, e.g. "tricking" a cis straight person into having "homosexual sex." And some politicians are now aiming to make it a "gender fraud" crime to use gender identifications (in documents or other official contexts) that differ from assigned natal sex. There is also a popular longstanding trope that depicts transfemmes in particular of being deceivers (cf. scholarship by Julia Serano and Talia Bettcher).
A common rebuttal to the "gender fraud" allegation is what I'll call the "Real Identities" defense. According to this view, trans people "really are" the genders they self-identify as, so they are not committing fraud. I disagree with this argument. In fact, I think this argument is bad for many trans people.
First, many trans people do not have a clear or stable conception of their own gender identities, or they take a long time to reach such a clear and stable conception. Many of today's trans men will identify as nonbinary in ten years, and vice versa. Many of today's femboys will identify as trans women in ten years, and vice versa. The Real Identities defense privileges the subset of trans people with long-term stable gender identities (or conceptions thereof)-- and discriminates against the subset of trans people whose gender identities (or conceptions thereof) change over time. Moreover, young trans people are likely to experience more such changes, so the Real Identities defense is likely ageist.
Second, many trans people have gender identities that are not readily communicable to cis people or to mainstream gender conceptual frameworks (or perhaps even to other trans people). Some transfemmes do not readily identify either as trans women or as nonbinary in a straightforward way. But they might need to oversimplify their gender identity to "woman" or "nonbinary" to make it intelligible to cis people-- but in a possibly misleading way. The Real Identities defense implies they will be at perpetual risk of committing "gender fraud" if they choose the "wrong" form of oversimplified communication to cis people-- even when such oversimplified forms of communication are their only options.
Third, for a wide variety of reasons, many pre-transition or non-transitioning trans people are not open about their trans status, and they purport to be cis people. The Real Identities defense implies that many closeted trans people commit "gender fraud" by failing to come out as trans. But that's ridiculous. People obviously have a right not to come out as trans. So either this isn't gender fraud, or gender fraud is permissible after all.
A further problem is that it is not clear what it means to say that trans people's identities are real-- and it is not clear that there are knock-down arguments in favor of the claim that trans people's identities are real. The Real Identities argument against "gender fraud" allegations appears to hold the rights of trans people hostage to questionable metaphysics and obscure gender theories. Is ethics really so strongly downstream from metaphysics and linguistics? I doubt it.
The better argument against "gender fraud" is that trans (and other) people have strong presumptive rights of privacy to facts about their own biological, historical, psychological, and ontological status. Under most circumstances, cis people and institutions do not have a right to know these facts.
A similar argument was made by Florence Ashley, who also argues against what I've called the Real Identities defense in the context of "gender fraud" and "rape by deception" allegations when there is nondisclosure of trans status when having sex. They make a rigorous defense of trans people's rights to privacy.
