Very different church conversion was done on this 1876 church in Ulster Park, New York. 4bds, 4ba, $2M.
Tumblr media
As soon as you enter, you can tell that it will be different. I've never seen a church decorated in navy and black with antique farm implements.
Tumblr media
Stairs lead up to a blue foyer with a terrazzo floor and a fancy carved door molding.
Tumblr media
The foyer leads into a combination living room/kitchen. The living room has a new fireplace and it's a small cozy area.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's a kitchen island and the modern kitchen itself extends farther back.
Tumblr media
There's also a side entrance into the kitchen via a small stoop.
Tumblr media
From this level is are ladder/stairs made from 2 old beams. The railing is a simple rope.
Tumblr media
This leads up to a large open area with such dark walls that I thought they were charred, but it's just dark.
Tumblr media
The stone walls are the same that we saw on the exterior. There's a dining area with an elaborate chandelier.
Tumblr media
There is also a sitting area, a chopping block and a large round indoor firepit with an exhaust hood.
Tumblr media
Looking down on the area, you can see sliding doors to a deck.
Tumblr media
The deck is a large size and has 2 storage areas for logs that are used for the firepit.
Tumblr media
Back indoors, stairs go up to a lofted bedroom.
Tumblr media
This is the only bedroom that is open.
Tumblr media
Bathroom #1 is small and done in classic white subway tiles.
Tumblr media
The 2nd bedroom is larger and is the primary.
Tumblr media
This bath has stone walls and a cool slanted slate sink.
Tumblr media
The smallest bedroom works well as a child's room or guest space.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The largest bath has a stone sink, modern toilet & bidet, plus a shower and a vintage claw foot tub.
Tumblr media
The 4th bedroom is a nice size.
Tumblr media
Here, they built a platform that is used as a home office, and above is a loft stacked with lots of wood for the firepit.
Tumblr media
There's another level that looks like a flex-space and it also has an industrial sink.
Tumblr media
Two steps up is another area. I really don't know what you'd do with all these various areas.
Tumblr media
This is the tower that is in front of the building and there's more firewood stored up here.
Tumblr media
Spiral stairs go up the the uppermost part of the tower.
Tumblr media
And, this is the view.
Tumblr media
There's a .50 acre of property.

I always forget that I know a bit more about The Troubles than a lot of Americans.
In 1993 I was 16 and part of something called The Ulster Project that brought Catholic and Protestant Northern Irish teens over the the US to stay with host families to see how Catholic and Protestant kids get along here. My best friend was Catholic and I was Protestant so I guess we were supposed to be a good example. Funny though, cause we were these goth/punk non-Mormon kids in Utah so everyone not Mormon got a long.
While the kids were visiting in the month of July we went to each other's churches, did service protects like working a soup kitchens or on trails in national parks, and fun stuff like picnics and amusement parks.
On a camping trip I walked into a tent with kids arguing about how they were British because they were from the British Isles or of they were Irish because they were from the island of Ireland. I don' think I fully understood the complexity of the situation at the time, but looking back, it is an experience I'm so glad I had a chance to learn about and it was literally in the middle of the Troubles.

Sojourner Truth (c. 1797 - November 26, 1883)
Born Isabella Baumfree, Sojourner Truth was a slave in Ulster County, New York. Enslaved by Dutch sellers, Dutch was her first language. She was sold many times until 1826 when she escaped slavery (Truth ran away with her infant Sophia to a nearby abolitionist family, the Van Wageners, who bought her and freed her).
In 1829 she moved to New York City and began to support herself through domestic employment. In 1843 she left NY and changed her name to Sojourner Truth. She travelled and preached, sang, debated, and eventually was more formally introduced to the concept of abolitionism in a Northampton Massachusetts community, and spoke for the movement around the state. This movement also promoted women’s rights. She met with abolitionists such as Frederick Douglas, David Ruggles, and William Lloyd Garrison.
In 1850, Truth was beginning to participate more in the women’s rights movements, continuing to appear at Suffragette gatherings the rest of her life. While attending an Ohio Women’s Rights convention, she gave her famous “Ain’t I a woman?” speech, which was, unfortunately, altered by Frances Gage 12 years later. Gage giving her a southern slave dialect. In her speech she challenged the notions of racial, and sex based inferiority and inequality by reminding listeners of her strength and female status. Her involvement with the Women’s Rights movement caused a split between her and Douglas, who believed suffrage for black male slaves should come before women’s rights, while Truth believed they could be done simultaneously.
At the beginning of the civil war, Truth aided black men involved in the war. After the war, she was invited to the White House, and became involved in the Freedmen’s Bureau, where she helped former slaves gain employment. While in DC, she was involved in movements that opposed segregation, and in 1860 she won a lawsuit after a streetcar conductor violently tried to keep her from riding.

WHAT OTHER TRANSPORT MUSEUMS ARE THERE?? Ahhh I recommend it it was awesome there was a very interesting and saddening exhibit about how the British invited Barbados people to come and work there kinda like the American dream kinda situation and people who came found racism discrimination and a preference for white Christian Britains and their skills were often not recognized they were forced to take housekeeping and other jobs which they were over qualifiedfor (which excuse me but it's so entirely fucked up. And yeah of course those people are important and should be valued as well! But yeah the fact that they were told that their degrees and such weren't good enough . That they were marginalized and treated so badly It makes my blood boil
sorry but I have strong opinions about Colonization and racism in general ) anyhow in lighter news very interesting to see the evolution of the way we get around! I have photos!
don’t apologise I love learning about stuff like that!!
my fav transport museum I’ve been to is a living one somewhere around the southwold area (tho I don’t know the exact location or name), because it was set up like a little town with garages, and working trams and buses. also the british transport museum which is the biggest in the uk I believe. I went after newsies my second time and it was everything, they had a whole section about austin healey’s including a cross section of the same model I’m building. near me is the ulster transport museum which I haven’t been to in ages, next to the folk park which is a living museum showcasing plantation ireland

The Little Cape that Could. This Cape Cod style home in Ulster Park, New York became a stone-clad castle. The now-multi-family home has a total of 6 bdms, and 4 baths. ($499K)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A tower was added onto the back, with several terraces.
Tumblr media
There’s also a separate residence in the back.
Tumblr media
I’m so confused by the layout, b/c of course the real estate pics are all jumbled. From what I can tell, there are 3 separate units. I’m going to guess that this is the larger home in the back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It has a more contemporary feel, and it’s a 2 story home.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Large kitchen and dining room. They added a rock wall, wood ceilings, and I can’t tell if the floor is linoleum or tile. The kitchen has linoleum floors.
Tumblr media
This looks like a master bedroom. It’s hard to see, but the walls are whitewashed stone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The bath has some castle-like features, but the sink and tub are kind of dated.
Tumblr media
I’m not sure if this is a family room or a bedroom, but the stairs seem to lead down to a family room. Notice the broken mirror ceiling.
Tumblr media
Here’s a more elaborate bath.
Tumblr media
Now, this has to be a 2nd residence- very open concept.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Small kitchen off to the side.
Tumblr media
This has to be a bedroom. Maybe this is the tower?
Tumblr media
Plus a bath.
Tumblr media
This bedroom looks like it belongs to the house in the back, b/c it has sliding glass doors.
Tumblr media
And, it also has a bath.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m totally confused, but this has to be the 3rd residence. The stairs look DIY’d off to the side. This unit also has whitewashed stone walls.
Tumblr media
It looks like a combination living room/kitchen.
Tumblr media
The stairs in the living room look like they go up to a bedroom.
Tumblr media
This would be the bedroom and I can’t tell if that’s a closet or another room thru the doors.
Tumblr media
Finally, there’s a deck in between two residences.

Movement Through Time Week 5 : Painting - Collages inspired by Seán Hillen (10/02/23)
Today, I made some collages inspired by a recent artist i researched, Sean Hillen. I did this as part of my painting and printing electives that both involve image making, layering, and composition. All of my images are primary source
This I of a dinosaur I saw in a museum layered on top of an image of a house in limerick. The t-rex has time travelled to modern day limerick 😱.
Tumblr media
This is an image consisting of an extinct mouse like animal that i saw stuffed in the Ulster Museum. It is infront of a black and white image of bunratty. The photo of bunratty folk Park is in black and white to give the illusion that the mouse has travelled from pre historic times to the 1940's Bunratty
Tumblr media
This collage is a combination of an ancient town that I saw on a holiday to China a few years ago, along with a modern day cruise ship infront of an image of a Greek cathedral that I saw in Santorini. They are all from different time zones but the collage has made them into a singularity.
Tumblr media
This image is of a classical building I saw in Italy. Standing infront of the building are a classical roman statue, along with myself and my sister Cara when we were younger. I have also included the top of a 1930's lighthouse that I saw in Bangor on top of the Ancient style Italian building. As well as that I have included a late 20th century Irish phone box. All of these images from different eras are combined in this one image that allows the viewer to travel through time
Tumblr media
The final surrealistic collage I made is of a dinosaur that I saw in the Ulster Museum standing outside the graveyard in my village Kilcolmen when it was snowing a few weeks ago. I have also included a letterbox that is painted red as all Irish letterboxes would have been before ireland gained its independence in the 1920's. I have also used a medieval venician mask as a sun like light source in the image. I saw the mask in a shop window in Italy.

The Gatehouse - Ardverikie House by FotoFling Scotland Via Flickr: Ardverikie House is a 19th-century Scottish baronial house in Kinloch Laggan, Newtonmore, Inverness-shire, Scottish Highlands. The house was made famous as the fictional Glenbogle estate in the BBC series Monarch of the Glen. The lands historically belonged to Clan Macpherson. The 20th chief, Ewen Macpherson, leased Benalder and Ardverikie in 1844 to The 2nd Marquess of Abercorn, an Ulster-Scots peer, "one of the trend setters in the emerging interest in deer stalking in Scotland." The Marquess expanded the original shooting lodge. He served as Groom of the Stool to Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria, who along with the prince spent three weeks at Ardverikie in the late summer of 1847. In 1860, Lord Abercorn transferred the lease to Lord Henry Bentinck, another stalking enthusiast, who lived there until his death in 1870. Sir John Ramsden purchased the Ardverikie and Benalder forests in 1871 for £107,500 (equivalent to £10,083,219 in 2019). In 1873, the house was destroyed by fire, and was rebuilt from 1874 to 1878. It was rebuilt in the popular style of Scottish baronial architecture, designed by the architect John Rhind. Ramsden's son, Sir John Frecheville Ramsden, inherited the lands after his father's death in 1914. The majority of the land was sold off following the two World Wars, and in 1956 Sir John transferred the Ardverikie Estate to a family company under the chairmanship of his son, Sir William Pennington-Ramsden. The company, Ardverikie Estate Limited, still owns and manages the estate today. The estate does business renting cottages and letting the property for weddings. Filming location Ardverikie House and its estate have been used as a location for filming. It is most recognisable as the Glenbogle Estate in the BBC series Monarch of the Glen, that ran for seven series from 2000 to 2005. It was also used in Miss Marple: A Murder is Announced (1985), the films Mrs Brown (1997), Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (2011), and Outlaw King (2018). The estate has been featured in the series Outlander, and in the first, second, & fourth seasons of the Netflix drama The Crown, standing in for the Balmoral Estate. During summer 2019, filming of No Time to Die was taking place in the town of Aviemore and the surrounding Cairngorms National Park with some scenes shot at the Ardverikie Estate. In October 2020 filming for the The Grand Tour special "Lochdown" took place at Ardverikie House, with presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May staying the night on the estate.
