The Crane Wives Ultimate Legacy Challenge

Introduction

Hello! I am Maximum Dinosaur. I make videos on youtube, and challenges for the sims 4. I decided to make a long and somewhat niche legacy challenge based on something very near and dear to my heart: The Crane Wives. This band released their incredible first album 14 years ago, and has released their long awaited 5th album in 2024. The Crane Wives is an alt-folk band made up of 4 members who���s music is about many things, including songs telling stories, statements, life lessons and myths, folklore, and themes of religious trauma and being lgbtq. Their music hits a spot in my heart that I cannot quite place anywhere else. Their lyrics are probably the most beautiful lyrics I've ever heard, going through this legacy has made me realize that. And the Crane Wives have not yet been brought to the sims 4. Creating this challenge has made me become more connected to the songs in their discography, and after spending countless hours analyzing lyrics and melodies, I can only say I appreciate the band all the more.

This challenge is made up of 6 different challenges, and 72 generations. Yes, that is an insane amount of generations. But I mostly just made this for myself, and anyone else who loves The Crane Wives so much. Every single one of their songs creates an incredible narrative surrounded by crafty lyricism, powerful vocals, and meaningful metaphors. Their songs range from absolutely heartbreaking to sounding like the sound track to a chase scene in the wilderness, and I wanted to bring each unique song to life in the sims. I realized when going through the discography how many unique and incredible ideas could come from these songs.

You really don’t have to know The Crane Wives to play this challenge (or parts of it!) This challenge may be good if you enjoy storytelling based on deep emotions, familial connection, and cottagecore/folk vibes. The generations are mostly focused on stories but have small little skill, aspiration, or miscellaneous challenges to add onto the fun of the generation. As you can imagine, most of the packs in this game will be used during the 72 generations. Take a look at each album to make sure you have the packs, and if you don’t, you obviously can still find a way to play without that pack. No gatekeeping here, this is just for fun and there’s no shame in removing a few rules from a challenge for any reason.

The albums can be reordered however one would like- you may start with their newest album or their oldest, or whatever works for you. I wrote the challenge from oldest to newest, and will be playing it that way, but you should be fine doing whatever you’d like! The challenge is split up as such:

Part 3: Coyote Stories (2015, 13 songs/ 12 generations)

Part 4: Foxlore (2016, 11 songs/generations)

Part 6: Beyond, Beyond, Beyond (2024, 11 songs/generations)

Part 1 is the only one fully completed at the moment, so stay tuned for the rest, as well as some challenges inspired by other artists!

A couple of notes:

Some generations will cover topics such as queer identity and religious trauma, especially related to being a woman in the church- so while for a good majority of the generations, it doesn’t matter what the heir’s identity is, I would say specific songs are meant to have feminine or queer heirs. It will be suggested in the rules as well as the lyrics of those generations.

If the Crane Wives do ever decide to release more music, I will greet the music with open arms and add onto this challenge to complete the discography <3 It’s suggested that you go in order from top to bottom of an album, but the order of the albums/whether or not you play each album is completely flexible. Each album's legacy is designed to stand on its own if needed.

This is an interpretation of art, and as any interpretation of art goes, not everyone will agree with my interpretation of the music. I’ve done my best to make the best decisions for each generation that I could. The Crane Wives are not the most popular band, so while there is a lot of information out there on the meaning behind songs, not every song has much information on it out on the internet. So I did what I could with the information that I had!

Generation 35 is a combination of the interlude song “Of Everlong,” A one minute song about unrequited love, and the following song, “Never Love an Anchor”, which is about a person seeing themself as unlovable to another. All of the songs in this challenge are on Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, Youtube, and a majority of other streaming platforms. Give them a listen!

Jules visits her more often after his wife’s passing and spends more time in her home. It isn’t even merely the physical comfort he seeks from her, much to her surprise. He wants that, too, but he also stays and eats with her, talks to her, and even spends time with her son.

Part of her wants to ask why he is lavishing attention on her child instead of on his own motherless daughter, but it seems callous. Maybe looking at the girl is too painful. Her birth has killed her mother, after all. It isn’t little Elissa’s fault, but neither is it untrue.

Constanza has started liking Jules’ company for its own sake long ago, but a curious domesticity creeps into his presence in these weeks. He still pays her money, but what they have starts feeling less and less like a business transaction.

The Pirate King of the North

Young Zoro hates the fucker but those scars and piercings are doing a number to his soul.

Old Sanji's story goes like this:

He didn't experience compassion from anyone else aside from his mother, who--you know what happened.

Judge kept him locked away until he was 13. He had him released when he was deemed too broken to do anything, and he was apparently a waste of space. As far as the world was concerned, he was already dead. He gets left behind at some random pirate town in the North.

His swirly brows were recognized by the pirates who took him in--only for him to be enslaved because people would pay a lot to have their way with royalty.

He picked up some skills from the other slaves and became cunning af--because he had to be.

At 17 he started a revolt against the slaver pirates, effectively taking over as their new pirate captain.

He became the feared "Mr. Prince" and his words are as sharp as his bite.

He's underweight because he doesn't give two shits about good food.

"The All Blue? It's nothing but an old fishwive's tale," he says.

He used his cunning mind and new pirate crew to hunt down and kill his own father from the shadows.

He enslaved his own siblings and becomes the new ruler of Germa Kingdom. Over the years, he used them for warfare and expanded the territory of the North.

His heart is a bottomless pit for power and control.

He had a fling or two or several with is closely allied with Doflamingo because god damn they're both mad like that. The alliance eventually lead to direct connections with Celestial Dragons.

Sanji gains more power and becomes the notorious "Pirate King of the North"

Meanwhile at the other side of the world, Luffy didn't make it as far as he could have without a good cook.

Luffy would have recruited one from Baratie but the restaurant was absolutely destroyed before the smaller Straw Hat crew could make a difference. Some of the staff didn't make it.

Zoro left the crew when it fell apart at some point.

Due to Zoro's reputation and bounty that he had occurred during his limited time with Luffy, he was offered a position as a Warlord, ultimately taking over the late Jinbe's old role. He accepted and served for several years before he was assigned a job that he didn't know would be the most challenging one yet.

The Celestial Dragons didn't like the fact that Sanji had started to have more worldly control over their own, so Zoro was quietly assigned to hunt down the great Pirate King of the North. Zoro accepted because he felt that he needed more experience before he could take on Mihawk again.

Zoro quickly realised that this mission is not a walk in the park.

Sanji loves toying with the Demon Warlord so he insists on taking him on by himself.

It becomes an endless game of cat and mouse. Sometimes Sanji chases and sometimes he runs, sometimes he wins and sometimes he loses.

They're at each others' throats everywhere in the world. Any person, city or being of any kind that gets in the way usually gets torn apart in the chaos. The hunt goes on for a lifetime. They're currently in their 40's.

Zoro severs Sanji's left arm during one huge fight.

Because of this, Sanji relentlessly tries to get Zoro to marry him to use him in so many ways he can think of--both as an asset and under the sheets--oh the things that he wants the swordsman to do and beg for.

Sanji likes to refer to the tiniest scar on his lip as "Zoro's love bite"

He was about to get a nice fresh one on his chest when some fuckers teleported him away.

Hearing old Sanji's backstory was a bit much. It was young Zoro's turn to have a nosebleed that day.

Oh yes I had fun drawing old silver fox, damaged Sanji. I wish I have the time to colour it up. I've also been very much into reading AU stories, especially soul brand ones. Keep them coming, you beautiful people.

Don’t be Embarrassed! You’re my Wife Damnit!

Monkey. D Luffy x Reader

Summary: a short story on Y/n being welcomed into the crew.

Part VI

Boarding the Thousand Sunny felt like the biggest relief.

The constant fighting on whole cake island has worn you down and you’re desperate for a meal, a bath and a bed to crash on.

But of course, your new life with the straw hats came with come challenges.

Most of these challenges stems from fitting into your new dynamic on ship and the perpetual embarrassment you’ve experienced from Luffy performing suggestive and romantic gestures constantly, which has ultimately come under the crew’s scrutiny and general shock.

Like with your first meal together as a crew.

“Sanji’s cooking is the greatest! Here try some!” Luffy grins as giddy chuckles escape his beaming smile. Luffy’s fork is shoved unceremoniously into your mouth as you take a bite of the creamiest mashed potatoes. You could’ve melted in a pool of bliss at the intoxicating flavour. “It’s good huh.” He asks rhetorically, stabbing away at his plate and forcefully shoving his fork to your mouth once again.

You wanted to scold him for acting so carelessly, but his excitement in sharing the experiences of his friend unmatched dishes was too adorable. So instead, you continue to go long with Luffy force feeding you, especially when he looks so bemused by your expressions.

“Aw! Where the heck did all my food go?!” Luffy screeches accusingly holding up the empty plate.

Sanji’s nerve just about pops from his head. “You fed it all to Y/n you idiot!”

Luffy’s blank face turns into a wide grin once again. “Oh yeahhhh.”

“You seriously haven’t changed one bit!” You say, pulling your little idiot into you by his neck, and ruffling his head with your knuckles. Luffy chuckles under your affectionate roughhousing. “Here stretch, take my plate.” Luffy snatches the plate and begins to pile into the delectable food.

The whole crew continue watching on in utter shock. Usopp’s mouth hangs wide open.

“I-I-I never seen Luffy share food before.” Usopp shutters in horror. “This has to be an imposter!”

Your face heats up under the intense stares of the rest of the crew, stewing in the shock of their food robbing Captain, not only sharing his food, but force feeding his food to someone else.

Unfortunately for you, your embarrassment was not short lived.

Desperate to redirect everyone’s attention, you scramble to change the topic of conversation.

“So where am I sleeping?” You’re hoping you have your own room.

When you moved into Dadans house, there was no extra bedding to share. So the boys agreed to share their bed with you until you were inevitably banished to share a bed with Luffy. After all, he was the only one that could handle your blanket stealing, pillow hogging, cuddly sleep state.

“With me, obviously.” Luffy deadpans, turning his attentions back to his meal.

“Luffy! Y/n is not your real wife, she won’t be comfortable sleeping next to you!” Nami scolds, “You can sleep with me Y/n! I really don’t mind sharing.” Nami offers sweetly, but before you have a second to speak, Luffy interrupts as his temper begins to flare.

“What the heck are you talking about Nami! We slept together all the time! She’s my wife.” He argues. His innocent exclamation leads Brook, Usopp and Sanji to their own imagination before Sanji proceeds to throw himself onto the floor, slamming his fist repeatedly.

“It’s not fair! It’s not fair!” He sobs and whines like a child.

“What’s not fair?” Luffy asks dumbly. Your cheeks begin to turn red at the boy’s misunderstanding. The look of shock, confusion, to denial on the straw hats faces was beyond embarrassing to say the least.

“I’m going to take a bath!” You announce randomly, desperate to escape the uncomfortable stares.

“Good idea, I’ll help wash your hair!” But before Nami could snatch Luffy back to his seat, “like I use to!” Nami hand freezes in place.

Did her captain just say ‘like I use to’?! A shocked squeal escapes Nami, her skin crawls as if she’s just now learning that her innocent, niave, captain isn’t as innocent as she thought.

“D-did he just say he’s seen Y/n naked?!” Brook squeals at and begins to reel at this new information. The unfairness of it all hitting him like a ton of bricks.

“I’m in hell! I’m in hell!” Sanji screams and carry’s on entranced into a tantrum like state.

“Good grief, get a grip curly brow.” Zoro grumbles disinterested.

Robin continues to smile at her comrads shenanigans. “Remember to shampoo her hair twice Luffy.” To which Luffy groans.

“I know how to wash her hair Robin! Sheesh! What’s up with everyone?” Luffy grumbles shoving you out the door.

The crew erupts in crazed spirits as they discuss how much and how far you and Luffy have gone together. But Usopp begins to loudly hush everyone as he here’s a one sided scolding on the others side of the door.

“Huh?! Don’t be embarrassed! You’re my wife damnit! This is normal!” Luffy exclaims which sends Sanji into a fit.

It’s safe to say, it took some time getting used to your arrival.

with few exceptions i don't ship any of the m6 with any of the princesses but I wanted to challenge myself and do exactly that; I combined a bodyguard au and an arranged marriage au and came up with this! - an au where bearing an element of harmony comes with a union to one of the princesses, and serves functionally as both a spouse and/or adviser, and a bodyguard.

been calling this either the harmony marriage au, or the elements of marriage lol

Rainbow immediately addresses the elephant in the room and all but volunteers to form a union with Luna; something she does partly to prove she isn't afraid of anyone or anything, but also because… look man she said she was sorry and she's gonna start her new rule with everyone against her - someone has to be there for her. Celestia especially approves of this union, as, even if these marriages are largely political, the element of Loyalty would make a true companion for a pony like Luna. Despite that, I think their start would be difficult, given all the ways the two are opposites… but ultimately flying by moonlight is just as nice as flying during the day, and the long stretches of peaceful nights give them plenty of time to get to know each other.

Cadance solves the unbalanced issue and forms a union with both Pinkie and Fluttershy. There's no limit to virtues that are compatible with Love, but Laughter and Kindness just have that little something extra that catches her attention, nevermind how stinkin cute they are. All three take to their new marriage well. It’s especially helpful that Pinkie and Fluttershy have a pre-established friendship that could easily remain platonic, or turn romantic or queer-platonic; there’s also the fact that Cadance herself was once a humble pegasus raised by earth ponies before being thrust into this royal life, which could be why they caught her eye in the first place. 

(Shining is still here, as someone needs to train these girls in the art of guarding, and their relationship is still active (although PinkieShy would not be considered his wives); bc if there’s one thing I’m going to do with the princess of love, it's show off some poly pride!)

Twilight would, at this point, ““have her choice”” between Generous Rarity or Honest Applejack; either would be fitting for her new title as the princess of Friendship, and both are good ponies who she could rely on. However, given just how much Twilight’s life is about to be upended with new, well, everything - ultimately Rarity turns out to be her best match. She’s generous with her patience and tact in a way AJ isn’t quite, and more importantly she understands the ins and outs of the high class, making her a real asset in Twilight’s transition to royalty. Nevermind that the two were maybe already a little smitten before their union even took place…

This leaves Applejack sort of “auto-paired” with Celestia. At first Applejack seems like a horrible choice for a princess who is practically a queen, given how very little she knows about this life, and the way the upper class look down on her, but it ends up that her more open/harsh honesty that would have maybe been too much for Twilight in her new role is actually perfect against Celestia. It takes Applejack a bit to learn how to hold her tongue in royal public but she learns to play the game in her own way, and her willingness to speak openly and bluntly with Celestia - in private - is so refreshing to Celestia, who hasn't had a pony tell her like it is in ages. That said, i think this learning curve takes quite some time to even itself out, and in the beginning they spend a lot of their marriage clashing with each other, though ultimately i see Applejack as a respectful enough horse that her southern charm does just that, charming the princess in a way she couldn’t expect.

The six are still all friends with each other, although given the sister pairs some of them see each other more often; Twilight, Rarity, Pinkie, and Fluttershy are a bit closer in that sense, while Applejack and Rainbow consider each other best friends. I’d be willing to say maybe something is going on between them, if i didn’t think that went against what the element of loyalty stands for, but there’s definitely rumors…
