i wish i could spoilg nanamj and make him a stay-at home husband lmfao
Okay okay I know the househusbandification of Nanami is widely known and recognized because of his competence and passionate distaste for late stage capitalism and hustle culture, but I think we need to acknowledge two more important points:
Firstly, he’s always believed that homemaking is a craft and though he knows better than to idealize his life, a small part of him couldn’t be helped from fantasizing about a life where money wasn’t the object or the only answer to caring for his home and the people inside of it. Still, because of the gloomy reality of the world, he always thought the only ends to that means—even in his far off fantasy—was to be able to work enough to provide for those people. Until, you have your first kid together.
Admittedly, Kento’s toyed with the idea before your little girl came along—seeing you come home from work late, only to stress about cookies you forgot to bake for an upcoming benefit, or coursework that got put off, or laundry because you need a specific part of your uniform for the next day; he only ever wished in those moments to free you of those troubles—and while he did his best to help with the damage control (helping you bake or study or hand washing your lab coat for you to dry by the morning), he couldn’t help but think that you both could have been saved the last minute late night jitters if one of you had the time to take care of these kinds of things all day—if he could dedicate all his hours to taking care of you. So, it’s a natural progression to loving the extra time spent at home together while you’re pregnant, to growing reluctance to even leave once you’re nearing your due date, to almost flat out refusal to step foot out of your shared apartment when your baby arrives.
You’ve always known this, though—Kento is kind, tending to people he cares about even if his methods seem brash at first. He’s gentle at heart, far too rounded beneath his hardened facade to have to endure a soulless, corporate world. You know he likes things with meaning—and that you, your home, your life together, is priceless to him. So, it’s not a surprise, really when at the end of his first month back from paternity leave, he sits you down to talk about him staying home permanently.
(“It’s not worth it,” is his ultimate confession, words spoken softly into the back of your hands, punctuated with kisses to your knuckles, “Missing out on spending time with her—with you—no amount of money is worth it. I did some looking and… I think it can work like this. If I stay. I want to be able to take care of you.”)
And so, he does. You make more than enough for your little family, and Kento had already saved up enough to live more than comfortably should any emergency come up. Money could never be the problem anyway, not with the support you have (as if Satoru Gojo would ever leave his precious goddaughter in a pinch, as if between your friends and family, you didn’t have the love and blessings of a lifetime)—all of whom, by the way, not that Kento looks the happiest they’ve ever seen him ever since he’s dedicated all his time to taking care of your family and your home.
Secondly, it makes his dick hard, real talk. All he ever wanted to do was provide for you—and sure it’s not in the way most would think of, but it sure as hell still counts. Knowing that he can spend his days caring for you, sorting through all your pretty clothes and dressing you up for him, preparing the bed you’ll both lay in at the end of the day, that he’s caring for the woman who carried his child—that any his actions can make you happy. Pride isn’t a strong enough word—he feels lucky, blessed even, to be able to call you his, to know that it’s him providing for and protecting you at the end of the day, that you call him and nobody else your husband. Almost makes him want to have another baby with you. Having you home with him for a few more months doesn’t sound like a bad deal at all.

Boyfriend-girlfriend feelings ~
Pairing: Corpse Husband X Reader
Genre: Fluffy stuff.
Warnings: Um none i think.
Summary: Request where fem!reader has like a husky voice and it’s not like super deep but deep compared to the other female streamers and she joins the lobby w corpse and stuff as a substitute and everyone is supposed about her voice and calls her the girl version of corpse bc she’s faceless too, except her personality isn’t bc she’s super optimistic and stuff. Anyways her and corpse bond and later admit separately on stream that they like the other, then fluff? Thank you!!!!
A/N: This is my first request and I went a bit overboard lol, this is nearly 3000 words so Anon I hope you enjoy lol, but yeah I did my best, I really really really  hope you like it :((
~~~
You yawned and took a sip of your bubble tea before turning back to chat.
“Hmmm, what should we do now, everyone? I think I might end stream now, it’s been like nearly 4 hours.” you mumbled glancing at the time.
It was only 10, so it wasn't that late, but you’d been on stream for 4 hours and you needed to finish your essay.
Your phone lit up with a notification and you glanced at it to see that it was from Sean.
Sean: hey wanna play among us? We need one more person.
“Uhhh or maybe not.” you said to everyone, smiling as you saw the chat light up with excitement.
Quickly typing out a “yessss, send me the link.”, you let your viewers know that you were gonna be playing among us and then quickly opened up the game.
Opening up discord, you joined the group and realised the only person you actually knew here was Sean.
“Shit” you said, biting your lip.
“Guysss,” you whined to your viewers. “The only person I know here is Sean. I’m so nervous now.”
The chat blew up with “you can do it!” and “we believe in you!” and other supportive messages.
You smiled seeing all of this. Your community may be small, but they were probably the best ones out there. They were sweet and kind and there was barely any toxicity in the group. You were only a small streamer, doing it as a hobby since you started college. You only knew Sean because he had messaged you himself, inviting you to a game of Phasmophobia because he'd liked your previous videos where you played it. You had been shocked then, barely being able to comprehend that Jackspecticeye decided to Twitter dm you, like what the actual fuck. That had only been a month ago, and you had played again a week ago with him, but your friendship was still new so even though his presence made you a bit comfortable, the anxiety was definitely overpowering it.
“Okay, okay I can do it” you mumbled under your breath trying to hype yourself up.
Quickly joining the call, your ears were filled with the noise of everyone yelling about the previous game. Sean quickly yelled at them to shut up once he noticed you'd joined.
"Everybody, I have our tenth player, this is Y/N, say hi everyone."
Valkyrae was the first one to yell out "Hi" with everyone else chiming in as well, and you had to breathe in deep to stop yourself from fangirling over Valkyrae.
You awkwardly smiled and said "Hey guys, I'm Y/N, Its nice to meet everyone."
There was silence for a second and you narrowed your eyes, wondering if you were muted or something.
"Wait what oh my god, you're Y/N from Y/C/N?" Valkyrae said her voice going quite high.
"Oh, that's where I know you from," said Sykkuno suddenly, leaving you staring shocked at the screen. Sykkuno and Valkyrae knew who you were? What the actual fuck?
"Uhhh," you said eyes flickering between the chat and the screen. "Yeah, that's me, I didn't even think you would know who I was, um oh my god."
"Oh right, now I remember, you did a cover of dreamy night, right?" chimed in Lily, and by this point, you were almost having a panic attack.
"Oh god, you saw that?" you questioned, whispering because you were worried that you were gonna wake up from this dream soon.
"Yeah!" exclaimed Lily, "Your voice is like total opposite of mine, so it was really cool to hear! Your  voice is really nice!"
"Awww, thank you so much, that's so sweet of you to say," you said, wringing your hands, not really sure what to say. What the actual fuck, how were all you favourite streamers here and ALSO knew about you huh? You wondered if this was a dream.
"Yeah what the hell, your voice is so deep." said Poki.
"Right, when you said 'hi', I literally thought it was Corpse for a second," Dave replied, chuckling a bit.
You made yourself take big breaths, trying to make your heart calm down.
"She's not very much like Corpse though" Sean chimed in. "She's very sweet, and gets scared so easily."
You unmuted yourself and gasped exaggeratedly. "Excuse me Sean, but who was it who screamed so much in Phasmophobia and nearly made my ears bleed?
"That game is FUCKING scary okay?" He screamed back, making everyone laugh in the background.
"Hey guys, what did I miss?" a very deep voice came in suddenly, and you realised this was the 'Corpse' they were talking about. You had seen his popularity on Twitter and seen a few clips of him playing but god damn hearing his voice in your ears like that was fucking amazing. You squeaked, thankful you were on mute.
"Holy shit, his voice is deep," you said to the chat, immediately getting responses such as "We know!," and "SIMPPP" as a joke from others.
Giggling you unmuted yourself when Sean introduced you to Corpse, and nervously said "Hey", dragging it out at the end, "Its nice to meet you!"
"Oh yeah!" said Sean as if remembering something. "Y/N is faceless as well, so she kind of is like the  female version of Corpse."
"What?" "Oh my god." "Brooo, thats so cool"
You didn't have time to say anything back as Sean decided to start the game at right that second.
Everyone went quiet and you sighed in relief as "CREWMATE" flashed across your screen. You did not want to be an imposter right now, you wouldn't be able to stomach it.
Quickly hiding your chat, you moved to admin and started humming something to calm your heart down. This had been a crazy 5 minutes for you, and you really needed to calm down. Taking a sip of your drink, you talked to the viewers as you did the card swipe.
"I cant believe Valkyrae - oh I should just call her Rae, right? considering I'm playing with her right now, oh my god, ANYWAYS, I can't believe Rae and Sykkuno know me. Like Lily even saw my cover. Ahhh! I didn't even know she saw it, and now I'm just playing with them, im literally shaking," you rambled to the chat as you went towards electrical to do the tasks there.
You saw Poki there, and you both ran around each other and then you followed her as she started walking to reactor. Suddenly the lights went out, and you gasped as the report button went red, and you quickly pressed it.
"Okay okay," you said before anyone could speak. "Me and Poki met up in electrical, we went to reactor and I was doing the one two three four five six seven eight nine ten task, and she was doing the Simon says and then lights went out and I went off and then suddenly the report button was red. So the kill happened right now."
"Did you see anyone?" asked Toast?
"Nope, I saw no one."
"Well, it couldn't be Sykkuno, because we were both waking to electrical together," said Corpse,
"Yeah it couldn't be Corpse, we were together at the last moment," confirmed Sykkuno.
"I was in weapons," said Rae.
"Navigation." - Dave.
"I was already at Electrical with uh Lily I think," said Sean.
"Yeah, that was me." confirmed Lily.
"Toast where were you?" asked Rae.
"I was just going into navigation."
"Leslie?" you asked, noticing she hadn't spoken up.
"I was in weapons."
"Well one of you is lying." said Corpse softly making everyone laugh.
"Gee, I wonder what this game is about?" Sean replied, teasing him.
"Maybe it's a self report?" questioned Dave.
"No oh my god, it's not me," you said quickly defending yourself. "Poki and I were literally doing our tasks, I swear."
"I don't think it's Y/N, why would she report the body, there was no one around, and she could  have easily just vented somewhere."
"Are we skipping?" Leslie asked.
A chorus of "Yeah" came in so you quickly skipped. Going into weapons you did the shooting task there and then started towards navigation, letting out a gasp as you got killed suddenly.
"ITS SEAN?" You yelled, completely shocked. "How could he kill me like that, I just started playing with them, and he was the one who invited me as well!" you whined, brining the chat back in again.
Opening up the dead chat, you messaged ":(((((" and Poki did the same back. You talked to the chat for a bit, moving around until you got to electrical where Corpse was.
"Guys, it's Corpse, lets follow him," you said, smiling a little.
Just as he was leaving electrical, Toast came in and killed him. You let out a small gasp as he self-reported and pretended that he'd just stumbled onto the body.
"CORPSEEEE" you typed into the dead chat, laughing when Corpse responded with ":((((" just like you had done.
"Whose the other one?" he asked and you quickly typed in "Sean :((("
Corpse: "*GASP, he killed you after inviting you to the game?*"
You: "Ikr!"
Corpse: “that’s so rude, we should stick together next game so we don’t get killed easily."
You: "Yes let’s do that!”
You guys continued talking until the next round started.
"SEAN!" you yelled immediately. "How could you kill me like that, when you were the one who invited me?" you whined.
"Exactly Sean, that was so rude." Corpse chimed in, supporting you.
"Ah, uh, exc -" spluttered Sean, "Please, oh my god, I can't handle the both of you at the same time, it's too intimidating."
Everyone started laughing and you giggled as Corpse accused Sean of avoiding the question.
The next round started and you laughed when you both got double killed five minutes into the game. Seems like your strategy of staying together wasn’t that good.
You played a few more games with everyone, getting imposter with Poki once. Finally, you decided that you really should finish that essay that you had due.
Finishing your fourth game, you let everyone know, pouting when everyone groaned.
"It was really nice to meet you, Y/N" said Rae, "We should definitely play more!"
Everyone chimed in then and you said bye to everyone as you left the lobby. Just as you were leaving the voice call, you heard Corpse say "Bye Y/N" again, but you couldn't reply because you just left.
"Whoops," you mumbled, feeling a bit bad.
You quickly said bye to all the viewers and ended the stream.
Opening discord on your phone, you sent a friend request to Corpse, being shocked when he accepted in a second. Wasn't he playing still?
Typing out the message, you sent it before thinking about it too much.
"Hey, sorry, I heard you say bye at the end, but I left right then. Just wanted to let you know that I wasn't purposely ignoring you or something."
“Ahhh no worries,” he replied.
Then a second later; “I checked out your covers btw, you’re really good.”
“Oh, thank you so much,” you replied typing quickly. “Your songs are great as well. I have to admit they’re a bit too intense for me lol, as I normally only listen to ballads and stuff, but I loved agoraphobic with al my heart :((( literally listened to that non-stop for a week when it came out lol.”
Okay maybe I went a bit overboard, you thought staring at the message.
“Oh Thankyou, that means so much to me. And yeah, I know that not everyone likes this type of music, don’t worry about it. Actually, I was thinking of doing another Lo-fi type of song like Agoraphobic, but I’m still working on it.”
You settled into your chair, continuing on the conversation.
It was an hour later that you realised that you’d just been texting Corpse and not done the essay like you planned to.
“Sorry corpse, gtg,” you messaged, putting a string of crying emojis after.
Putting down your phone, you finally started working on your essay, ignoring the butterflies you’d had in your stomach for the past hour.
~~~
You guys kept talking. The next day he asked for your number, saying it’d be easier to text there than discord. You guys messaged for ages. Your conversations never ended because even if one of you had to go, you would just pick up the conversation from where you left. It was by far the easiest friendship you’d ever had, and if you were being completely honest, you’d kind of developed a small crush on him.
A few weeks later, you were streaming among us again, this time with another group. You died quickly in the first game, so you pulled up chat and started asking some questions.
“Corpse?” You asked reading one of the questions. “Ah I don’t know guys, I don’t think Corpse is coming to this game, he’s quite busy with his music and everything, and I don’t think he’s available today.”
“Do you like his music?"
"Yeah, his music is great. It’s sometimes intense for me,” you admitted giggling, “but I do love it. I actually really wanted to cover Agoraphobic or MISS YOU! They’re both my favourites and I’ve been wanting to... hmmm.. maybe I’ll do a poll on Twitter and see which one more people want?”
Suddenly a message caught your eye; “I kind of have a crush on corpse.”
You laughed out loud, saying the username and replying “Yah I think everyone who meets corpse ends up having a crush on him, like how could you not, he’s freaking perfect.”
When everyone started spamming chat though, you realized you might have said too much.
“Anyway guys look, I think Sykkuno might end up voting Rae, and oh he did it,” you laughed as the “defeat” screen came up and Rae started yelling at Sykkuno for not believing her.
~~~
The next day, Corpse was waiting as Rae asked people to join the lobby. Answering questions from his chat, he saw one about you and read it out.
“Is Y/N gonna play?”
“Ahhh, I don’t think so guys, I think she has an assignment or something. It’s been a bit since I played with her, it would have been nice to but yah I don’t think she’s available.”
Suddenly all the chat was talking about was you.
“Do you see the clip where she says she likes you?”
“Bhahah I think she has a crush on you lol”
“Did you see that clip?”
Corpse furrowed his eyebrows confused about what clip.
Another comment caught his eye.
“Do you like her?”
“Do I like her? Of course, I like her, it was amazing to meet her, her covers are great, she’s so nice, also she’s like the exact opposite of her voice, it’s so funny." He laughed remembering the photo you'd sent of all your plushies lined on the bed. "Yah no she’s really sweet, we’ve been talking a lot recently, it’s been fun.”
“SIMPPPPP”
“Omg he actually likes her.”
“CORPSE X Y/N”
“Oh don’t make her uncomfortable guys,” Corpse huffed as he saw the comments. “Yah I kinda like her, but y’all are too much” he muttered, before realising exactly what he’d said.
“Wait no, what.” he stuttered, “Um oh look Rae's found some more people.”
~~~
When you finally decided to look on your phone, you realised that your Twitter notifications were blowing UP. Quickly going into the app, you clicked on one of the mentions saying “CORPSE X Y/N, ITS REAL I CANT BELIEVE IT.”
Tapping the video underneath it, you listened as Corpse talked about you, blushing when you realised what it sounded like. But...he couldn’t actually have a crush on you... right?
He was probably kidding, you told your beating heart. Probably just wanted to go trending for something. A voice whispered in your mind that Corpse wasn’t like that but you didn’t wanna give yourself hope.
Just then your phone rung, making you jump and stare shocked at the screen when you saw Corpse with a yellow heart next to it. Corpse had never called you before.
Quickly picking up the call before it could go to voicemail, you shakily questioned “Hey corpse?”
“Uh hey,” he said, his voice sounding way too deep. “Sorry I normally wouldn’t call but like, I just got off-stream and saw the Twitter trends and everything. Um, I like - didn’t wanna, um make you uncomfortable with all that so I can tell them to back off if you want?”
“Um..” you said stalling, trying to process everything here. Deciding to oho full in, you just blurted it out, “Do you actually have feelings for me?”
“Like not just friend feelings", you continued, "but like the boyfriend-girlfriend feelings if you get what I mean.”
Immediately after saying that you wanted to slap yourself. Were you in 2nd grade? Like who the hell says boyfriend girlfriend feelings?
“Uhhh, I- I kinda do I guess, I like you but like it’s okay if you don-
“I do," you said cutting him off before he could finish.
“I um, I also like you.”
“Oh.
“Yah”
“Cool”
“Cool”

Hufflepuff Idiot: Zacharias Smith X Reader
A/N: when I said I’d write for any HP character, I wasn’t lying.
"Remind me why the first meeting for this defence group is in the Hog's Head?" you whined to Hermione as the both of you were snarfing down your breakfasts. "Because the Three Broomsticks is too crowded." the girl replied, "Besides, Madame Rosmerta is the gossip magazine of Hogsmeade, no way will she not be poking into our conversation." "Yeah yeah, fine." you grumbled, "But I'm not eating anything from tat pub."
~~~~~
"So. Um, hi." Hermione nervously said to the students sitting on the tables in front of you. "You're probably wondering why we're here. We'll, we need a teacher. A real teacher. One who's had experience fighting against the Dark Arts." "Why?" came a voice, rather making the phrase sound like a statement than a question. You incredulously looked at the snooty-looking Hufflepuff sitting on the table to the right. You knew him, but you'd only seen him in Herbology a few times. "Why? Because You Know Who's back, you tosspot." Ron snapped at him. Zacharias didn't appear fazed, "So he says." He gestured to Harry. "So Dumbledore says." you said, getting annoyed yourself by his unconvinced face. "So Dumbledore says because he says." he said in a louder voice, "Point is, where's the proof?" "Excuse me." you angrily began, but Hermione nudged you and shook her head. Michael Corner took this as an opportunity to speak, "We thought you could tell us a bit more about how Diggory died." You rolled your eyes. Harry slowly rose from his seat,  "I'm not going to talk about Cedric, so if that's why you're here, you might as well clear off." Everybody was silent, but you indistinctly heard the Hufflepuff mutter, "No proof." You sighed. This was going to be a long meeting.
~~~~~
"I mean, did you see his stupid face?!" you complained to Hermione for the hundredth time that week, "Where's the proof, I'll give him proof!" "Who's she on about?" Ron demanded, piling his plate. Hermione exasperatedly shook her head, "Smith. Zacharias Smith." "I mean can you not get irritated?!" you asked Ron, "Him and that stupid smirk of his is so bloody ANNOYING." "I'm annoying, now am I?" a voice asked, causing you to curse. "If you've come to be an arse, Smith, then sod off. I'm asking nicely." you warned. "Bold of you to assume I came to talk to you of all people." he rolled his eyes. "I was going to ask all of you where the meeting is today." "Room of Requirement." Hermione answered, "We've already told you that. Is it really why you're here?" "Okay fine I did come to talk to L/N." he snapped. "I just wanted to ask if you'd done your Herbology essay on Devil's Snare." "As a matter of fact, I have." you curtly replied, "You might want to take advice from me and do it as well." "Well, good then." he spoke, striding off. "What the hell?" you asked when he'd gone. Harry, who hadn't spoken in a while, smirked at you. "What?" "You know, Ron." he said quietly, "I think Smith here came to ask Y/N to Hogsmeade but chickened out last moment." "WHAT?"
~~~~
"Alright. Before we begin, I want to make sure that all of you have a partner. Seeing as to Abbott's away for the week and Longbottom is in the Hospital Wing again, why don't Smith and L/N work together instead? When your partners return, they can pair up instead. Sounds good? Alright, let's begin." You scoffed at the irony when Professor Sprout asked if it were alright with you and basically continued to ignore your protests. "Hello there. " said a voice as you groaned. "Seems we're together now." "Shut up Smith, just get on with the work." you snarled, grabbing a Tentacula leaf. "Hey, we're partners. I'm just making sure that we have a good bond. You don't need to call me Smith, by the way." "Yeah, thanks, I'll call you idiot instead." you snapped. "No." he said tartly, "You can call me Zach. Can I call you Y/N/N? I'm calling you Y/N/N." You suppressed a humongous groan.
~~~~~
"Y/N/N." a voice childishly said, "I need a favor."
"I'm not giving it, Smith." you answered. He ignored you, "Come to Hogsmeade with me this Saturday?" "And what makes you think I'll do that?" you demanded. "Hey, come on." he tugged at your arm. Merlin this boy was annoying. "Just one weekend outing." He pouted. "I will not-" "Hem hem." Mentally swearing, you turned around, "I'm, m-morning, Professor." "Good morning, miss L/N." Umbridge smiled sweetly at you, "I see you are not following educational decree number forty seven. What does it state again, miss L/N?" "Students of the opposite gender must be within six feet of each other." you muttered. "Yes." she smiled further, "Well, miss L/N. I see this is one of the many ruled that you have broken. Do we think this calls for detention seeing as to you were not even an inch away from this young lad here? " "What?" you asked, "No! I mean, well-" "Were you or were you not just draped over young boy?" she asked. "Well-" "Professor, she wasn't. I-I came over and-" Zacharias began as your eyes widened. "I understand that you want to defend her." Umbridge smiled, "But be quiet unless you wish to be given detention alongside this young lady." Zacharias opened his mouth but you stomped on his foot before angrily speaking, "You don't even know what happened. You just want to give me detention." You clapped a hand over your mouth in horror. "I think we do need to be taught a lesson, yes?" * Umbridge said triumphantly.
~~~~~
You were heading back to the Gryffindor common room when a hand seized you and pulled you to the side. You winced as your burning wound came in contact with a robe sleeve. "Oops sorry, I forgot." said the voice of the person you had never expected to pull you aside in the middle of the night. "Smith?!" you angrily asked, "Are you mental? Do you have a death wish?  We're both going to land in detention if we get caught! I'd probably get expelled!" "No, you won't, just hear me out okay?" he said desperately. He suddenly stopped, catching sight of your bloodied hand, the sentence 'I MUST NOT DISOBEY MY TEACHER'  clearly etched upon it. "She used the blood quill." he gasped, "That's... That's because of me." "What are you talking about?" "I asked you to come to Hogsmeade with me and broke the rule. I landed you in detention. I made you write with that quill. Me." he rambled. "Merlin, Y/N, I'm so sorry." "Wait, what?" you asked, "It's alright, not really your fault and-" "I caused the girl I like to get hurt." * he muttered, his eyes immediately widening after realising what he'd said. "You... You like me?" you quietly asked after a moment of silence. "Well, I, er... Yes." he admitted weakly, "For... Quite some time now." "Oh." was all you could say. "You should go, you'll... It's late." he muttered, red in the face. "Yes, I suppose..." you spoke, turning to leave. And you had no idea what in the name of Merlin's soggy trousers made you whip around and kiss Zacharias Smith's cheek before leaving hurriedly.
~~~~~
It was done. Umbridge was gone. The Ministry had finally accepted that Voldemort was back. You shivered, walking towards the Black Lake, hoping to find your bench empty.
To your surprise, somebody was already sitting on it. And it didn't make you angry. Instead, you walked ahead and sat down next to the blonde Hufflepuff.
"Oh, hi." he said when he saw you, scooting over to make room. "Hi." you smiled, "She's finally gone." "Yeah." he laughed slightly. You were silent for a moment. "Y/N-" "Zach-" You both giggled.
"You first." you spoke. "Er, yeah." he awkwardly began, "Listen, I just want to say that I'm sorry. Again." You rolled your eyes. "I told you Zack, it's fine. She would've found a reason to put me in detention anyway." "Yeah but I still feel awful." he muttered, "What did you want to say?" "Well I was going to say I'd like to take up your offer from earlier." you spoke, "Hogsmeade this weekend?" "No way." his eyes widened, "You're serious?" "Of course I am." you feigned hurt. "I meant it." "I thought you said I was annoying?" he asked. "Don't make me change my mind, Smith." you warned. He smirked, "You wouldn't dare L/N." "And why not?" "Because you like me." I love simply answered, grinning widely. "That I do." you answered before leaning in to press your lips against his. A/N: how was it?

And This Is How It Starts | Susan Pevensie x Reader Soulmate AU
Tumblr media
Warnings: Slight homophobia, shitty friends???
Time/Era: Modern AU
Word Count: 1.9k
Summary: Everything your soulmate loses, you receive. Turns out, Y/N’s soulmate is very forgetful.
Request: helloo. can you write a sapphic susan fic please! take it whatever way you'd like :)
A/N: I’m not sure how many people read Susan fics, but I really like this one :D
masterlist | narnia playlist | read on ao3
“Gross, can you guys please cut it out?” Y/N stated, watching her best friend suck faces with her soulmate. She was on his lap and their make out session was starting to grow more intense than Y/N was comfortable with. Hannah pulls away from Alex with an exaggerated groan.
“You’re just jealous you’re still stuck in the ‘lose it and receive it’ phase. Not my fault you haven’t found him yet.” Her voice was light and teasing, but Y/N couldn’t help but fell her heart rip.
“I’ll find her eventually,” Y/N sighed, taking a book out of her schoolbag. It was a small, very beat-up copy of The Hunger Games.
“Her?” Alex responded, tearing his gaze from Hannah’s face. “How do you know it’s a her?”
Y/N opened the book delicately to reveal “Susan Pevensie” written in perfect cursive on the back of the front cover. The book had multiple stains on it, most likely tea judging by the color, and the same perfect cursive riddled the pages. Whoever Susan was, she adored this book with her life. Y/N’s fingertips lightly traced the writing before turning the book for her friends to see. Hannah scrunches her face at it.
“It could be his friends, you know. Like she lent it to him and he lost it,” Alex kisses Hannah’s cheek.
“Or this Susan girl is his girlfriend,” Hannah smirks.
“Or,” Y/N was growing frustrated. Whenever she hinted that her soulmate might be a girl, everyone dismissed her suspicions. “My soulmate is Susan Pevensie and she keeps losing her things. And besides, this book is really loved, she wouldn’t just give it to someone.”
Hannah scoffed, tossing her hair in a very I know everything, and you don’t kind of way. “Fine, believe what you want. Not sure why you would want a girl soulmate anyway, I know I wouldn’t.”
“Well, yeah, of course you don’t. You’re straight,” Y/N flipped to a random page and read the gorgeous handwriting that was scrawled in the margins. Her mouth twitched slightly at how perfect the script was.
“What? And you aren’t?”
“No, I’m not.” Y/N’s eyes didn’t move from the page as she spoke. The teens sat in silence. “Is there a problem?”
“No! No, of course not,” Alex answered quickly. ‘I guess we just, uh, didn’t expect it… I guess.”
“Well, surprise. Now that that’s out of the way, do you guys like The Hunger Games?”
The two grew even more uncomfortable at the sudden tension they were feeling. “No, not necessarily.”
“She seems to. A lot. And there’s a cute little strawberry bookmark on page 47,” Y/N sighed dreamily picturing what Susan must look like. Based on her cursive alone, she must be absolutely jaw-dropping.
“Has, er, Susan lost anything else recently?” Alex asked. Y/N nodded excitedly, digging in her bag again. She pulled out a set of keys with a feather pendant keychain, a light pink lipstick, a glass water bottle, and a small fabric coin purse. Y/N grinned down at the items then looked back towards her friends.
“Oh, she must be quite forgetful. Do you have any other stuff?” Y/N’s grin brightened even more.
“Oh, loads, this is just what she’s lost within the past week,” The keys jingled as she moved her hands. “The keys must’ve really ruined her day. I wonder what they’re to.”
“Hopefully somewhere in England. Where’s the money from?” Hannah gestured to the yellow coin purse. Y/N shrugged and tossed it towards her friends. It was rather small, barely the size of Y/N’s palm, and it had a gorgeous diamond quilt pattern.
“No clue. I haven’t opened it if I’m being quite honest.” Alex’s noble fingers undid the clasp and looked inside.
“Well, it’s definitely British currency, which is helpful.” He tipped the pouch and emptied the contents into his hand. As expected, a variety of different coins came toppling out, along with a folded piece of paper and various pins. “Can I have this?”
“No, you cannot have my soulmate’s belongings. Give me that,” Y/N grabs ahold of all the bag and its contents. With her hand cupped like a funnel, the pins and money fall smoothly into the coin purse. Y/N discards the pouch into her bag and begins to unfold the paper.
She had expected the paper to be riddled with text, like a to-do list or a small reminder. Instead, it appeared to be a little photograph of a family. The paper itself seemed to be fragile as if it had been handled a lot or had gotten wet, so Y/N handled the photo with care.
The scene depicted the smallest of the group, a little girl, giggling up at the oldest as the other two looked on with large smiles. Y/N turned the photo to look at the back, just in case any date was included with the photo. In the same gorgeous script as the book, Lucy laughing at Peter because Ed insulted him “in the name of justice.” June 15  was written in black ink. Y/N turned the picture over frantically and scanned the faces of the family.
Susan was absolutely beautiful; her dark brown hair was styled in effortless waves and her lips were painted with a cherry red color. Her eyes were wrinkled in the corners, due to her contagious smile, and she looked like she was filled to the brim with happiness. Y/N had never seen such gorgeous baby blue eyes.
The poor girl was speechless, her mind running a mile a second and vision focusing on only Susan’s portrait.
“She’s gorgeous,” Y/N murmured breathlessly.
“Who is?”
Y/N looked up at her friends, turning the photo to show them.
“Susan, my soulmate.”
Susan read over the essay that sat in her lap, taking in every detail of the writing. It wasn’t hers, but it was her soulmate’s misplaced homework. The topic wasn’t overly exciting, an analysis of a book Susan hasn’t read, but just the way her soulmate wrote captivated her. Y/N L/N, which was the name written on the top of the paper, had such a poetic way of writing. It was as if she was telling Susan a story, rather than writing about an 18th century novel.
“Reading the essay again, are we?” Peter snickered from next to her. Susan would have hit him with the paper, but she didn’t want to risk damaging it.
“Yes, what’s the problem with that?”
“Nothing, Su, I just don’t think rereading missing homework is going to bring Y/N any closer to you. It’s over a year old.” Peter had found his soulmate when he was young, so he didn’t quite understand his siblings’ desire to find their other halves so quickly.
“Not physically, but I already know a lot about her from this one paper. I know her handwriting, how she talks, the way she feels about some things…”
“Yeah, how she feels about classic literature. Not exactly groundbreaking.” Peter sunk deeper into the couch cushion in an attempt to get comfortable.
“Maybe not to you, but to me it is. You don’t have to be such a happiness drain, you know.” Susan was growing more frustrated by the minute. She didn’t want her older brother to snatch the paper away from her, so she gently creased it and placed it into her notebook.
“I’m just taking the piss.”
“Well, it’s not funny. And shouldn’t you be doing your wash? We leave for school tomorrow.” Susan stood up, lifting her bag off of the floor and onto her shoulder.
“Yes, alright mother.”
~
“Y/N! Are you coming?” Hannah hollered over her shoulder. She was walking towards the train station with a large group of her friends. Y/N waved her off.
“I’ll meet you there! Save me a seat, yeah?” Hannah shrugged her off and continued the conversion she was more invested in.
Y/N sighed, watching their backs disappear into the distance. She never quite liked the group Hannah was friends with, so them leaving her out never quite bothered her. Especially when she could get sandwiches for the train ride.
The teen was waiting at a crosswalk when she spotted her. Susan was stood at the newspaper stand outside of the corner store Y/N was going to. She looked stunning as she flipped idly through a Vogue magazine. The sun shone across her hair and Y/N thought she looked similar to an angel.
When the light turned green, Y/N scurried across the street in order to meet her love. However, she paused a few paces away to steady her breathing.
“Excuse me, are you Susan Pevensie?” Y/N spoke, voice shaking. Susan turned around, utterly confused. Y/N was right in her assumption; Susan was in fact an angel. An angel that looked even more heavenly in person.
“Yes, and may I ask who you are? And how you know my name?”
“Oh, right, um I’m Y/N L/N. I’m not sure if you know who-” Susan’s eyes widened and she couldn’t help but cut Y/N off.
“You’re my soulmate.” Her red lips were slightly agape as she took in Y/N’s appearance. “Excuse my bluntness, but you’re even prettier than I imagined.”
Y/N’s cheeks grew hot and her fingers fumbled with the buckles on her bag. She was much more nervous than she had hoped, but Y/N couldn’t help it. Once the bag was open, she gripped Susan’s possessions and held them out.
“You need to keep better track of your things, love.” Susan’s perfectly manicured fingers brushed Y/N’s as she took back her book and keys. Y/N’s legs felt like jelly.
“How could you possibly know what I looked like?”
“You lost a picture of your family. Well, I suppose a coin purse with a picture folded inside. Still, a picture was lost and I saw it.” Y/N rambled, making Susan giggle. “I’ve been looking for you for ages,”
“And I you, darling.” Susan placed her belongings into her bag and embraced Y/N. Y/N didn’t quite know what to do; Susan smelt of rose petals and honey and her hair was so soft as it brushed against Y/N’s cheek. All the same, Y/N wrapped her arms loosely around Susan’s waist.
“Am I allowed to kiss you?” She whispered into Y/N’s ear. Y/N could have fainted on the spot, but she squeaked out a small yes.
Susan kept her arms wrapped around Y/N’s neck as she kissed her gently. Y/N’s thumbs danced across the floral patterned fabric that covered her hips as she kissed back. It was light and fleeting, but it still made Y/N feel like she was going to burst. The pair pulled away and looked into each other’s eyes. Susan’s were even bluer in person.
“Can I buy you a sandwich?” Y/N croaked, cutting the tension. Susan giggled happily.
“As long as you let me cover the dessert.”

Holiday Cheer?
For @newsies-secret-santa I got @radioactivepigeons which is kinda funny and I thought was totally rad so please enjoy this silly fic! Words: 4,637 Rating: PG Summary: Blink got a job at Target and has to work Black Friday in the electronics department. Really things can only go up from here. AO3
Blink wanted to die. Well not literally. But if the choices were death and this? At least he wouldn’t have been miserable with the former.
He’d needed the extra cash, even though he despised the holiday season and the capitalist hellscape that it created with a deep burning passion, Blink’s laptop was about to die and there was just no way he could buy a new one and pay rent for the month. Thus, the seasonal hours he was picking up at a Target out on Long Island. Which meant working Black Friday. Joy to the ducking world.
It was now almost three hours into his shift and he was being screamed at by his fourth Suburban Mom With Bad Highlights. Honestly? Blink was kinda numb to it at this point. In some not so distant aisle a baby wailed. Soccer Mom took a breath and Blink seized his opportunity before she could continue yelling at him.
“I’m sorry ma’am but we are sold out. Our system says that there’s three left at our West Orange location though.”
She huffed but grabbed her cart and shoved her way out of the electronics department.
In the aftermath, Blink allowed his faux charming smile to falter for just a second. He hadn’t been able to let it drop so far since his manager had informed him that the costumers might find his eye patch “off putting” which he would normally reply a “fuck you” to but he really needed this job.
If Blink’s ancient laptop finally bit the dust, then he wouldn’t be able to use the text to speech program that he needed to complete his readings. Because after a day full of classes, meetings, essays, research, and TA-ing he was tired. Reading was just. Not an option. He was lucky his vision held out until he got home. If his laptop died, he could kiss his long dreamt of PhD in English Lit goodbye. And Blink was one stubborn son of a bitch so that was not happening. He’d gotten this far; he could get through December.
Maybe.
Hopefully.
He had to get through today first though. And damn these people were sure making that hard.
The baby stopped crying abruptly and a John Mulaney quote sprung to Blink’s mind. He didn’t mean to, but he mumbled it anyway, “You hope it was a miracle… but probably not.”
A muffled snort sounded from in front of Blink and he felt himself flush with embarrassment when he looked up to see a guy standing there on the other side of the counter. A very good-looking guy. A downright hot guy with a mess of curls and what appeared to be dimples as he laughed at Blink. And oh duck. He was laughing at Blink.
“Please tell me you were consciously aware of the fact that you were quoting John Mulaney about a baby,” Hot Guy was saying now. And god it was shitty of Blink to just completely objectify him like that but damn it was internal, barely six a.m., and what else was he supposed to call him?
Blink smiled, for real this time, and gave a shrug. Which actually felt kinda good after having not moved from this spot since the store opened. “Can you blame me? It’s true.”
Hot Guy laughed again, louder and longer this time and throwing his head back as he did so. It gave Blink a perfect view of his smooth, dark throat, his skin just a few shades lighter than his curls. He’d started to nod as he chuckled. “It’s true,” he was saying between laughs. And Blink couldn’t tell if he was agreeing with Blink or repeating what he’d said.
Blink knew he was just grinning dopily him, but he really couldn’t help himself. He was practically dead on his feet and he hadn’t even had “lunch” yet here stood Blink’s dream partner. Cute, laughed at his stupid comments, knew John Mulaney quotes. Look, Blink knew it was a low bar, but you’d be surprised how few people managed to cross it. Normally it was the second point that tripped them up.
Finally, Blink managed to come back to where and more importantly when he was. “Sorry, uh, is there anything I can help you with?”
Th guy shook his head, his hands were shoved deep in his coat pockets and when he made a sweeping motion it pulled his unzipped coat into a sail. “Honestly? I’m just biding my time while my mom guilts my aunt into giving her the last of whatever toy my cousin desperately wants so that she can be the hero come Christmas morning.”
“Wow,” Blink said with a low whistle. “That is some next level family drama.”
Hot Guy rolled his eyes but that smile never slipped. And thank god, Blink was pretty sure that looking at that smile for the rest of the holiday shopping season would keep him from wanting to commit a felony.
“They’re so competitive,” he was saying, “that now they have to come up with new ways to be competitive. It’s a mess. But can’t say that it makes for a dull holiday.”
He was buffeted by an overlarge man, pushing him closer to Blink’s counter and causing him to stumble. Instinctively, Blink reached out to steady him and managed to grab his upper arm. What felt like his very toned upper arm. Oh duck. Blink was so dead. He didn’t even know this guy’s name and he was already gone on him.
“Thanks,” Hot Guy said once he was steadied. He glanced to Blink’s nametag before looking back up at him with that brilliant smile. “Louis. Thanks Louis.”
“No problem,” Blink heard himself saying because that was it. Wherever Blink was now it wasn’t this plane of existence. He had no clue what he was doing or saying because internally he was just a mess of giddy screams. Pretty people just should not exist because this is what happened to Blink when they talked to him. “It’s insane in here, not your fault.” Oh duck. Had he been rambling? Man, he hoped he hadn’t been rambling.
The smile never slipped though so whatever nonsense was coming out of Blink’s mouth Hot Guy didn’t seem to mind.
Suddenly a voice cut through the chaos. “MIKEY! WE’RE LEAVING!”
His smile twisted into an apologetic wince. “That’s my mom,” Hot Guy told him and Blink was pulled none too gently back to reality. “I’ve gotta go or I will be left here. You always on electronics?” he asked quickly as he started backing away.
“Um, no just today.”
Hot Guy had reached the main aisle and was nodding. “Ok. Um, I’ll find you then?”
Blink nodded and raised his hand in a wave. Hot Guy, well apparently his name was Mikey, flashed him one last smile before sprinting towards the front of the store.
Blink meant to watch him as he walked away but a little old lady’s perm had filled his vision and when he looked down she was rather urgently holding out a stack of coupons and a flyer opened to the new iPhone. He had a few thoughts – who thought it was a good idea to let an octogenarian out Black Friday shopping at the peak of the crazy, there was no way those coupons were actually going to be accepted today, he was not authorized to sell iPhones, he did not have the patience to explain that he was not authorized to sell iPhones to her – but they all were shoved down as she started talking at him.
~
Two p.m. and the end of Blink’s shift did not come soon enough. He was due back bright and early tomorrow at seven, but luckily he was just stocking shelves the first few hours and wouldn’t have to properly think again until he had to work a register after lunch.
It was odd walking out into the bright afternoon sun after having gone into the liminal space that he now called his place of employment in total darkness. The parking lot was still full, and he squinted against the light as he searched for Sarah’s silver Toyota in a sea of silver sedans.
He finally found her at the back of the lot, seemingly talking to herself and waving her hands around as she did so. He knocked on the passenger window and she turned to beam at him before unlocking the car and continuing her conversation.
“I mean, I stand by what I said.”
“Oh, I know you do,” Katherine’s voice came out of the speakers, obviously on the other end of the call. “But that doesn’t mean it’s a viable option.”
“What are we talking about?” Blink asked. He rubbed his hands and held them up to the vent where Sarah was blasting warm air. The walk wasn’t that far but the wind had been killer.
“Murder,” Sarah said cheerily at the same time that Katherine said, “My family.”
“Ah, holidays,” Blink said with sarcasm laced cheer. The girls laughed and Blink sank further back into the seat, exhaustion finally hitting him full force.
“Ok, well I’ll let you two go. See you soon!” There was the sound of raised voices somewhere in the background and Blink guessed that Kath wasn’t just hanging up to let Blink and Sarah talk.
“Bye Kath’rine,” he mumbled.
“Bye Kath!” Sarah said brightly and then there was the weird boop of the call disconnecting. She turned to Blink – or at least he assumed she turned to him but Blink had enough seeing for one day thank you very much and so had pushed his eye patch up onto his forehead and had his eyes closed with his hands pressed over them – and started talking to him with the same enthusiasm. Which was refreshing from the faux happy of his coworkers and the misery of the shoppers but like Blink was not on that level. “So how was work?”
“I hate capitalism. And middle-aged white women. And Christmas.”
Sarah hummed as she put the car in drive and began to back out of the spot. “Yeah, best part of being Jewish? Not doing all that.”
Blink laughed. He hadn’t really done Christmas growing up, after his dad died it’d just been his mom and his brothers and him and his mom really tried but money was tight. Normally they each got a new book and just watched A Christmas Story. Which Blink really didn’t mind and he loved reading and well, he still uses the whole “You’ll shoot your eye out!” thing as his excuse when people ask him about the patch. Just says, “Ralphie was lucky, he was wearing glasses. Me… well I used to have 20/20 vision.” It made people laugh and he didn’t actually have to answer the question.
But all this Black Friday nonsense? All this “buying the perfect gift” and making it the “best Christmas ever” and trying to be a picture-perfect Norman Rockwell family just for the one day a year even though everyone knew it was a sham? Yeah, that was bullshit and a load of bullshit Blink really didn’t need in his life. But damn he needed that new laptop.
“Well thanks,” Blink said after a short silence.
“For what?” Sarah asked. They were good friends, thanks to Jack being one of Blink’s buddies from high school and Jack and Davey meeting in college and being, well, Jack and Davey and then Sarah being Dave’s sister it only made sense that they’d crossed paths freshman year and hit it off. Though they were probably the most surprised of anybody when they’d gotten so close over the next couple of years. Even then, Sarah wasn’t a mind reader and Blink had a habit of non sequiturs.
“Driving me to and from work. Especially today what with the hours. And then being willing to bring me out here every weekend for the next month,” Blink explained.
Sarah scoffed but Blink kept talking before she could start telling him how little she minded. He needed to get it off his chest.
“And for inviting me to Thanksgiving and letting me stay with you and your folks. I already thanked ‘em yesterday for it and for letting me stay the weekends but you’re driving and I’ll pay you for some of the gas once I get my first paycheck and-”
“Louis!” She cut him off and Sarah only ever called him Louis if she really needed his attention. “It’s fine! You don’t have to thank me or pay for gas! Jeez. I’m helping Les prep for his SATs and coming out every weekend anyway, it’s literally not a problem. Besides, my parents love you and since they moved out here they have the spare room. On top of all that, you’re one of my best friends, you’re always welcome at the Jacobs Family Thanksgiving, with all its insanity, and I’m more than happy to help you out in any way I can. We all are.”
Blink sighed and sat up to look at her. Sarah was glancing at him out of the corner of her eye, trying to gauge his reaction. “You’re too good.”
She just smirked and shrugged. “I mean, I’m going to make you help me help Les so really you might want to rethink that.”
Blink laughed and he could tell that Sarah was pleased with herself. She let him sit in silence for a little while longer as she turned into the development that her parents had moved to when the twins were in high school. Mr. Jacobs had gotten injured at work due to the company cutting corners and not following the proper safety protocols. They’d sued and managed to win enough that they covered the medical bills and moved to the family out of their cramped apartment in Lower Manhattan to the nice house in suburban Long Island. Now, Mr. Jacobs served on the town council and worked as a safety inspector and the house had become a weekend refuge for their children’s ragtag group of friends.
“So,” Sarah said as they neared her parents’ house, “anything that you need to curse about from today before we get home?”
Groaning and throwing his hands up in the air made her laugh but the look Sarah gave him said she wasn’t going to accept that as an answer. Blink sighed. “If I never hear a thick Long Island accent again it’ll be too soon.”
That got him a snort. “You’re friends with Spot Conlon-”
“Who has a Brooklyn accent and yes there is a difference!”
Sarah scoffed, obviously not buying it but Blink was willing to die on this hill.
“I really don’t understand what everyone needs a seventy-five-inch tv for. Honestly. And now I officially cringe anytime I see a woman with a ‘Can I Speak to Your Manager’ haircut.”
Sarah turned into her driveway and parked but didn’t turn off the car yet. “That it?”
Blink shrugged and began to nod before freezing. “Oh my god. I can’t believe I nearly forgot.”
Sarah looked concerned and he knew he must have a horrified expression.
He turned to her and looked at her seriously. “Sarah.”
“Blink?”
“I met the love of my life this morning.”
“Really.” She sounded incredulous.
“I swear to you. I am in ducking love.”
“Uh huh. You get their number?”
Blink winced, remembering his mistake from being dead on his feet when he met the guy. “No…”
“Blink!”
“Look! It was early! Like before sunrise! And I was on the electronics counter! I’m lucky I was able to speak coherent English!”
Sarah snorted but remained silent, giving him the opportunity to redeem himself.
“I got his name,” Blink told her and was rewarded with an impressed raise of the brows. “And he said he’s gonna come back another day when it’s not crazy to see me so…”
With a sigh and a shake of the head Sarah showed that he’d lost any points he got by getting the guy’s name. “So? Who is he?”
“Uh, Mikey.”
“Mikey…? What. What’s his last name.”
Blink winced. “I just know his name’s Mikey.”
Sarah gave him a blank look and turned to shut off the car and get out. Blink resettled his eye patch and hurried to follow her. “You’re hopeless,” Sarah called over her shoulder as she walked to the door.
Blink sighed and followed. “I know.”
~
Saturday passed in a blur. Thankfully it was significantly less busy and Blink actually knew the answers to all the questions he was asked but it still drained him. He practically collapsed when he got in Sarah’s car.
“Mystery Mikey show up?” she teased but Blink knew there was genuine interest in there too.
Blink sighed. “No.”
“Well you’ve got time.”
Blink just shrugged and allowed himself to doze off as they drove.
~
Sunday afternoon saw Blink climbing out of Sarah’s car so he could get his bag and climb back into Sarah’s car so she, Blink, and Davey could all get back to the city. He felt absolutely wiped from his first weekend working at Target but knew it was all because of the sales. Some not so distant part of him said that he should just get used to this though because he was working weekends all holiday season and this was just going to be his life now.
He thanked Mr. Jacobs again and gave Mrs. Jacobs one last hug and Les’s hair one last ruffle before following Davey out the door. They both threw their bags in the trunk and Dave shot him a quizzical look.
“You even pack anything? You only needed red shirts and khakis,” he deadpanned.
Blink stared at him for a few seconds. “Wow. That joke? It was so funny I forgot to laugh.”
Davey snorted and Blink responded with an eyeroll. Normally he’d have smiled but he was too tired to do much else than turn to get back in the car.
He stopped as he caught sight of the next-door neighbors’ driveway. Next to a blue Honda was a mother hugging her adult son tightly. The guy had his eyes turned skyward and seemed to be enduring her public display of affection. It looked like he was gearing up to say something to her when he saw Blink though.
That was when Blink knew. He’d thought it was Mikey, his mystery crush from Friday, but when he froze Blink knew it was him.
Mikey’s mother could be heard asking him what was wrong as he stiffly released her and then she was turning to watch him cross over the grass dividing the two driveways and walk up to Blink.
They stood there staring at each other in shock. Sarah had come out and distantly Blink heard her ask Davey what was going on and Davey mumbling something back. But Blink didn’t care because what’re the odds that he’d actually meet the guy he’d decided he’d fallen in love with again?
“What’re you doing at the Jacobs?” Mikey finally asked in awe.
“Uh, spending the holiday? They’re letting me stay here while I work too cause I live in the city. And Sarah likes me for some reason so she’s driving me around.” Blink didn’t know where the blatant honesty word vomit had come from, but he blamed the shock.
Mikey laughed. Blink could do little else but stare.
“Blink!” Sarah finally called from where she stood at the driver’s door. “What is going on?”
“This is him!” Blink gestured towards the man in front of him, hoping desperately that Sarah would understand.
“Mush? Mush is who?” Sarah obviously did not understand.
“Him! Him,” Blink implored. “The guy from Black Friday!”
“What’re you talking about?” Davey sounded tired. But Davey always sounded tired. Blink elected to ignore him and go back to grinning dumbly at Mikey.
“Hold up,” Sarah said, drawing everyone’s attention. “Your Mystery Mikey is Mush from Next Door?”
“Apparently!” Mikey, or was it Mush? Did he have a preference? Or did Blink have to earn that? Was it an inside joke?
“I’m so lost,” Davey informed them and went to sit in the car.
“Why didn’t you just say that it was Mush?” Sarah sighed. “It could’ve saved so many melodramatic sighs.”
Blink felt his cheeks heat and glanced to see that Mush had bit his lip to try and keep from laughing. Duck that was adorable.
“Um, in Louis’s defense I never actually said my name,” Mikey/Mush finally spoke up. “If I’d have thought to properly introduce myself it would’ve been as Mush Meyers but I’m guessing you and the entire store heard my mom call me Mikey so…” He trailed off with a shrug.
Sarah snorted before Blink could reply. “You actually said your name was Louis?”
“It’s what’s on my nametag! No way I’m gonna run around telling random costumers to call me Blink. And it was busy and I was distracted,” here he gestured vaguely at Mush, “so I didn’t get the chance to say that I go by Kid Blink but most of my friends just call me Blink. Only people who don’t are my mom, my professors – with the exception of Jackson but he’s my advisor – and now my coworkers.”
“And me when I’m annoyed with you or want your attention,” Sarah added.
“And Sarah when she’s annoyed with me or wants my attention,” Blink corrected.
Mush nodded, that easy smile Blink had called to mind so many times in the past couple days was back. “Ok, let’s try this again.” He held out his hand, “Hi, name’s Mush.”
Blink beamed at him and shook his hand. “Kid Blink, but you can just call me Blink.”
“I think you’re really cute and funny and I’d love to get to know you better, want to get coffee some time?”
He didn’t think he could smile any wider after a six-hour shift as a cashier but somehow Blink managed it. “I would love that.”
“Awww, cute,” Sarah interrupted.
Blink turned to glare at her, but he caught Mush biting his lip again out of the corner of his eye. He was going to make sure that Mush always stood on his good side because Blink wasn’t ever going to miss a glimpse of that face if he could help it.
“Can you exchange numbers and plan this date that way?” She continued. “Not to be pushy but I really don’t want to get stuck in traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge.”
“Brooklyn,” Blink muttered in annoyance and was surprised to hear Mush do so too.
At Blink’s raised brows Mush shrugged. “It’s this guy I know, Spot Conlon, it’s his turf.”
“You know Spot?” Blink had to pause a second. How was it this guy lived next door to the Jacobs, or his mom obviously did, and he knew Spot Conlon and Blink had met him on the worst day of the year in a ducking Target electronics department.
“Yes, yes, and I’m sure it’s a thrilling story and I’m sure you’ll discover a million more little connections because Long Island and New York City are the biggest small town in the world and everybody knows somebody who knows somebody who knows you but traffic is not going to get any better the longer we stand here in the cold,” Sarah huffed.
Dave rolled down his window. “She’s right and will only get meaner.”
“Thank you,” Sarah said primly. Davey just nodded and the window went back up.
Blink turned back to Mush to see he already had his phone out and a new contact page pulled up. He took it and put in “Kid Blink” and in the company line “Alex from Target 2.0” before typing his number and sending himself a text.
Mush laughed when he took it back and Blink smiled in triumph. “I’ll text you,” Mush said firmly and he slid it back in his coat pocket.
“Uh, actually can I call you when I get home? It’s uh, it’s um-”
“Absolutely,” Mush cut him off and kept smiling. “Whatever you prefer.”
Blink smiled back and nodded. “Ok. Cool. Thanks.”
They both stood there grinning stupidly at each other until Sarah honked the horn, obviously having gotten cold and impatient. Blink waved as he got in and Sarah backed out of the driveway, watching Mush wave back until he disappeared.
~
The next Friday when Blink slid into Sarah’s car where she pulled up outside of his apartment building, he was met with a “Hello” and a surprise hug from the backseat. Blink turned to see Mush sitting back there and grinning wildly. They’d talked nearly every day this week and had gone on their first official date on Wednesday.
“What’re you doing here?” Blink asked in awe.
“My mom wants me to help put up the Christmas lights and I remembered you saying Sarah was taking you out with her on the weekends, so I texted her and asked if she’d mind if I tagged along.”
“Obviously I said no he couldn’t,” Sarah said dryly. “He’s also been recruited into the ‘Les Jacobs SAT Prep Squad.’” She looked at him seriously in the rearview mirror and Blink knew she wasn’t joking about that. Mush just laughed and shrugged.
“If I were a better friend and a worse sister, I’d have left him drive you,” she told Blink softly.
He looked back over the seat to Mush before turning back to Sarah. “Nah, this is perfect.”
They all chatted as they neared the Brooklyn Bridge before Sarah started grumbling about rush hour traffic.
“You know,” Blink said suddenly. “You never did say how you know Spot.”
Mush started laughing and launched into the story. Blink was so swept up in it, and most importantly Mush animatedly telling it, that he hardly even noticed as Sarah cursed up a storm.
Blink might still hate the holiday season. And really hate working retail. And especially hate working retail during the holiday season. And need a new laptop. But, with meeting Mush he thought that it was all more than worth it.

dancing on my own -- part eight
I am a LIAR but not totally. I’m procrastinating (ironically enough, the essay I should be writing at this moment is about procrastination). But I need some cuteness in my life right now. So I wrote this.
Words: 2,245
Summary: Rob is being a total cutie, but subtly. Some rambling from Sarah at the ladies panel. Then some green room cuteness.
Warnings: it’s so cute??? I blushed writing it
The masterlist is here, by the way.
~~~
Saturday is a big day for everyone. We’re packed with panels, photo ops, autographs, a contest here and there, and the concert at the very end. We’re insanely busy.
This is the excuse I give Briana when she catches on to Rob and I’s unnaturally bubbly and friendly behavior. Granted, it only took her half an hour after I got down to the green room to notice—
It’s not a big deal, really. Rob met me at the door with a coffee. And I mean, come on, not a big deal. He used to all the time, but then stopped when…all that mess happened. So it’s not a big deal that he started doing it again.
Or that there was a heart next to my name on the side of the cup.
Not a big deal. “You’re reading too far into it,” I tell Bri, shaking my head as I sip my coffee.
“I’m reading just enough into it!”
I give her a look. “He came to my room last night, we talked, and he went back to his room. End of story.”
She raises an eyebrow.
“If anything, we…cleared the waters.”
“Cleared the waters!”
“We talked about a lot of…unspoken stuff, you know. Like he apologized, and we talked a little about Lily and how therapy helped me a lot and just…stuff we had wanted to talk about but didn’t know how, I guess.” I pause, laughing at her facial expression. “It’s too early for me to deal with you.”
“That’s good!” She keeps her words calm, but I can tell she wants to squeal like a teenager. Thankfully she keeps it inside.
Kim and Ruth come down a little later, followed by Rachel who will be joining us for the panel later today. Bri, of course, has to tell the girls about how Rob and I “cleared the waters” last night. And they, of course, commence to teasing me about it, which I both expected and…wasn’t totally dreading.
I haven’t felt this giddy in a long time. Sue me.
Thankfully while all this is happening, Rob, Rich, and the rest of the band are out and about, wandering off somewhere. But they should be coming back soon. I think our panel starts in a while.
“What time are we on?” Rachel asks.
“I was just wondering that,” I chuckle. “Anyone?”
One of the handlers, Lindsey, hears us talking and answers for us. “In thirty minutes.” Then she pauses, glancing around. “Where is everyone?”
We all laugh, Kim replying with, “They ran away.”
No less than a second later, though, the band comes back in…minus Rob and Rich.
I hear Lindsey mutter, “Fucking hell,” under her breath, causing me to snicker. “Am I gonna have to call Hillary?” Hillary is their handler, who should be with them when they’re not in the green room, but they all tend to sneak away.
Billy laughs loudly before saying, “No, they’re coming.”
“Eventually,” I add, smirking.
They wander. It’s a running joke.
The joke doesn’t last too long this time, though, because Rob and Rich do come back to the green room a few moments later. Well, Hillary comes in first, followed a moment later by the boys. We applaud them loudly, breaking into laughter when Rob flips us off.
They walk over to the table where all of us girls are sitting—Well, Rob does…Rich follows with this mischievous grin on his face.
I give him a strange look before focusing back on Rob who had originally said hey to me and placed a hand on my arm. “Hey. Where were you guys?”
Rich just about chokes from trying to hold back some kind of retort. Rob glares at him before answering me. “Just walking around.”
I raise an eyebrow at the both of them. “Okay…”
“We need to go start talking,” Rich announces, clapping Rob on the shoulder before turning away toward the band.
“I guess that’s my cue,” Rob laughs, those eyes of his sparkling. “See you in a few minutes.”
“See you,” I smile. And much to my surprise with how neurotic he is, he leans down and presses a kiss to the top of my head before walking away.
 By the time I turn back to the girls, I am a blushing mess. And they are all trying to look completely unfazed, even though I can tell every single one of them wants to point it out and say something.
But they don’t. I only get four extremely knowing smiles before Rachel asks who all is singing at the concert, and our conversation moves to that before we have to go onstage.
 +++
Thirty minutes later, we are being ushered onstage. We all choose to walk around the curtains to the ramp so we can walk up with Rachel. The screams are deafening, as they typically are, but it never fails to make us grin.
And I absolutely can’t help myself from smiling so wide when I see Rob standing there, singing his heart out. He glances at me through the corner of his eye, a grin breaking out over his face when he sees me.
We’re acting like we literally didn’t just see each other a few minutes ago.
I catch a glimpse of Rich, who is smiling and shaking his head at us as the song finishes, the crowd applauding the band and screaming some more.
“Atlanta, Georgia,” Rich begins, but then stops himself, looking to me. “Sarah? Any words?”
I gladly take over. “Hi Atlanta!” More screaming. “Are any of you from this area? Or around here?” More screaming. “Good! Okay, that makes me so happy. I’m from here, twenty minutes south, so this is my home. I’m also currently working here, so I’m in the city a lot for filming at the moment. It’s good to be in my hometown for one of these things.” I pause. “How many of you traveled in for this?” More screaming. “That’s a lot, okay,” I pause to laugh when everyone else onstage with me raises their hands. “I know you guys did. Anyway. Thank you for coming to visit! I hope you give yourselves some time to explore before you go back home. And thank you for showing interest here! Creation saw that and heard you guys, so keep spreading it so we can keep bringing these guys back.” Another round of screaming.
“Would you like my job?” Rich teases, causing me to laugh. Rob laughs too, hanging onto the mic as he studies my face. I could feel him looking at me the whole time I spoke, and I tried not to focus on it, but I did a little. “I couldn’t have said it better myself. We’re gonna get off here and let you hang out with them. Have fun, ladies!”
We all tell them goodbye, waving as they exit. I wave toward Rob, earning a wink and wave in return.
Butterflies. That’s weird.
Okay, panel time. Focus.
I do focus, actually, and manage to make it through the panel remaining focused. This panel has always been a sort of wisdom/motherly panel, meaning most questions are asking for some advice or indirectly asking about something the person needs to hear. Which Kim, our ever-present wisdom provider, absolutely loves.
And eventually, as I knew it would, there is a question about how I am doing.
“I’m doing really good,” I smile. “I talked about it yesterday, but I’ll briefly talk again just for those who are wondering and weren’t here. Um, I’m a lot better. I got the help I needed and actually listened and worked on myself this time, so when I say I’m doing good, I mean it this time.” I look around me at the ladies sitting next to me. “I thankfully had an amazing support system, not just from these ladies, but from my family – who is actually here today. My parents and little sister are out there somewhere,” I chuckle. “But I am in a lot better shape than I was when I left. I just also wanted to thank all of you guys,” I gesture to the crowd, “for being so unbelievably supportive and kind about the whole situation. Really, thank you.” I quit talking and start applauding, the crowd and the girls joining in with me.
I feel Bri’s hand on my arm as the clapping is beginning to die down, and I look over, seeing her mic at her lips. “I just want to say – and her family can probably attest for this – I have known you for, how long now? Five, six years?”
I nod. “I think.”
“And in those six years, you, right now, are probably at your happiest and brightest that I have ever seen you. And I am just so damn proud of you for getting the help you needed and helping yourself get better.”
Rachel, on my left, leans over into a hug. Briana joins, Kim and Ruth following a second later as the crowd cheers. But we’re all trying not to cry from the looks of it.
 “I love you guys,” I laugh, wiping under my eyes.
 +++
After the panel, we’re back to hanging out in the green room while Misha does his panel. I have some photos and autographs today, but that’s not until after lunch.
Rob made the mistake of leaving his guitar unattended by the table, so naturally, that’s the first thing I pick up. All of the other girls are gone, surprisingly, so I’m alone for the moment. I thought about finding Anna in the crowd and hanging out with her during Misha’s panel, but I think I need some quiet time to myself for a minute.
I lean back against the wall, sitting on the floor, as I mess with his guitar. I haven’t played in literal years. I can’t remember the last time I held one of these things. Piano is different; I’ve played piano nearly every day since I’ve had access to one after rehab and all. But I don’t have a guitar, and…I used to play Rob’s anyway.
 Anna must have me in a Taylor Swift mood because the first song I can think to play (and remember) is ‘Begin Again’.
I start humming, only singing really in half-voice because I’m just messing around. “Took a deep breath in the mirror/He didn’t like it when I wore high heels, but I do/Turn the lock and put my headphones on/He always said he didn’t get this song, but I do…” I smile softly, thinking about that boyfriend I had – Andrew. He really hated it when I wore my heels. He wasn’t much taller than me to begin with, so I think the heels made him furious. I hate that I stopped wearing them whenever I went out with him. “Walked in expecting you’d be late, but you got here early, and you stand and wave/I walk to you/You pull my chair out and help me in, and you don’t know how nice that is/but I do.” I breathe. “And you’d throw your head back laughing like a little kid/I think it’s strange that you think I’m funny ‘cause he never did,” I smile, already hearing Rob’s laugh echo in my mind. “I’ve been spending the last eight months/thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end.”
My phone buzzes under my leg, prompting me to stop playing.
My cheeks are red before I can even think.
>Rob: I don’t want to interrupt…but you sound really pretty
I roll my eyes, yelling out, “Just come in already.”
The backstage door swings open, Rob walking in…without Rich or the band, surprisingly.
I furrow my eyebrows. “Where’d they go?”
“Lunch,” he replies. “I’m supposed to be meeting them…but I remembered I left something.”
I raise an eyebrow.
“Okay, I didn’t leave anything,” he laughs, his eyes sparkling again. “And they’re bringing lunch back.”
“You’re a terrible liar.”
“Yeah, yeah,” he groans, sitting down on the floor next to me. “We need to rehearse for tonight.”
“Oh, right,” I chuckle, sliding his guitar off my lap. “When are we gonna have time?”
He sighs, widening his eyes. “After the contests and stuff.” He pauses, looking over at me. “You’ve got this.”
I laugh. “Oh, I know I do.”
He gives me a wide-eyed look, which only furthers my laughter until we’re both laughing, leaning into each other and holding onto one another until we can calm down.
“It’ll be okay,” I finally say in all seriousness. I nudge his arm, smiling. “I’ll have you up there with me.”
He looks surprised. “Having me up there helps?”
I nod. “I think we’re both so neurotic we balance each other out.”
He hums then, trying not to smile. “That makes sense.” He reaches over me – literally over my body, and I have to restrain myself from saying anything, but I think the blush that crosses my cheeks says it all – to grab his guitar, the body knocking into our knees as he props it up on his lap. “What were you singing earlier?”
“Oh,” I laugh. “It was a Taylor Swift song. But it’s your turn, you pick.”
And so, he starts playing ‘Help You,’ another one of my favorites from them.
I’m not ashamed to say that by the end of it, my head is on his shoulder as we harmonize randomly, softly.
And I’m even less ashamed to say I fall asleep.
