So, something I should clarify for copyright reasons, 'I Remember' technically (emphasis on that) takes place in the continuity established by "Trollhunters: The Secret History of Trollkind", the comic published by Dark Horse Comics. It's not 100% a complete copy, but it definitely uses said comic and its counterpart 'The Felled' as a baseline. I'd for sure recommend giving them a read if you're interested, they're really solid installments and have the same feel as the books they tie into.

Speaking of which, a HUGE thank you to @itsmergb for allowing me to use their version of Skarlagk the Scorned, theirs is a really great design and take on the character, I'm still shivering with hype ^^

Course, it's thanks to the work of @undeadchestnut that this has been brought to life for our enjoyment, so another big thank you to her as well :)

PTA!Scrooge

A Modern AU thing based on this ask I sent to @undeadchestnut where Ebenezer is married to Jacob and they both adopted Beryl. A BIG HAPPY FAMILY LIKE THEY SHOULD BE.

Of course, raising a child means that he has to go to the most terrifying meet-up known to man: the PTA.

But that doesn't mean he is not prepared to deal with the onslaught.

What hurts me most about 'Later Never Comes' is that it's not just Scrooge being greedy and uncaring, it's about him processing trauma in a toxic way. He was scarred for life by his father being put away and all the pressures of keeping his family alive falling on him. He hordes money hoping to feel safe, and secure, to not be afraid of that pressure again. He think's if he gets enough, he'll be okay. He won't feel it, and Isabelle knows this. He has to accept he's going to feel it, he's going to be afraid, and she can help him get through it it. But he's so scared of that that he chooses his unhealthy coping mechanism over her and it's not all his fault and that kills me.

You nailed it.

And honestly, I think it wouldn't have been as bad if Jen had lived. She was probably the one person who truly understood him and could have recognized, and encouraged him to curb, thoughts and behaviors stemming from their misfortune.

But with her gone, there's no one left who relates to him. Isabel may have helped him through the visceral aspects of his grief, but (presumably) having faced no hardship in her own life I don't think she would have been equipped to counsel him about the dangers of his coping mechanisms in a way that resonated with him.

Which leads to the situation you described: Isabel offering him a lifeline but him not trusting it/her enough to accept it. So, she cuts the rope.

Something Cute This Way Comes

There’s a tiny troll wedged in the gap between her cupboards and the ceiling in her kitchen. If she had to give him a human age, Barbara would say no older than seven. Frightened glowing eyes watch her, and he’s shaking so hard the wood beneath him rattles. Whatever had happened to Walt on that last mission would require Blinky’s help to fix. 

He’d come home fine last night if reeking of a thousand different things. He’d taken a long shower and grumbled about potions and glass bottles. This morning she had found him a great deal shorter and snacking on her spoons. He’d seen her and promptly shrieked, taking flight and wedging himself in his current spot.

“Hi, Walt,” she called up to him. He didn’t seem to recognize her or the name. “Walter? Strickler?” she tried to no avail. With a heavy sigh, she tried, “Stricklander?”

“Yes?”

“Would you like another spoon?”

Tiny Walt was perched on her counter three feet away from her, munching on a fork. Barbara was nearly out of cutlery and figured it was now or never. “Stricklander?”

He looked up at her hopefully. “Yes Mother Morgana?”

Barbara tried hard not to flinch at the name. Since Walt assumed all humans were enemies and or dinner, and things like the fridge were obviously magic, there was only one person Barbara could be in his kind: Morgana. Barbara figured the truth was too difficult to explain at this point.

“How would you like to visit some other trolls?” she tried cheerfully.

Walt curled in on himself instantly. “As you wish, my Lady.”

“Hey, hey, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing, my Lady.”

“Don’t lie to me young man,” she said a bit more harshly than she meant and instantly regretted it when the fear returned to his eyes. “Do you want to visit some other trolls?”

“...No.”

“Can you tell me why?” She was met with tense silence. “Please?”

“They are…mean to me.”

“Oh?”

He thought hard. Walt had always said his actual childhood was a bit of a blur thanks to whatever Mrogana did to him. “They…hurt me. They call me Impure, because I am corrupted.” He was on a roll now. “I am not a real troll anymore; I’m fleshy and they don’t like me and they want to eat me! I hate them.”

Barbara nodded sagely. “They sound like real jerks. But these trolls are my friends, and they will give you lots of tasty things to eat.”

Walt perked up. “Like spoons?”

“Better than spoons.”

Strickler woke up with the feeling the ground used to be a lot closer. He felt rather groggy and disoriented. Blinky, Aaargh, and Barbara were all staring at him quite expectantly. “What are you all…oh. Oh.” He buried his face in his hands. “I never want to see those pictures Barbara.”

“But you were so cute!”

“Never.”

Last thing for Stricklake month, theme: Water 💧

There is nothing deep to this concept, I just think that sending messages in bottles down a stream is adorable and romantic in a very innocent way. Now that I am writing this, I’m wondering why I didn’t draw strickler swimming in a lake. Get it? it’s a metaphor because he—-

i got busy this week with commissions and uni, so no references (i did miss his arm and lip patterns but I am too lazy to go back, and really ought to be studying for my surgery/medicine test on wednesday) and I owe my first born child to the salvaging power of noise and overlay filters <3 Overall very pleased with how much I have drawn for this challenge, and proud to have kept up with each week. I think it helps that it comes so soon after artfight, so I maintained juuust the right amount of art motivation and still remember all the tricks I picked up.
