A penny for your thoughts about Side Purple...

Gora looking at Yukari like ‘nice character you got there, would be a shame if someone…gave him a horrifically sad past full of tragedy’ (and I guess you could argue they’re adding unnecessary suffering but honestly if I wanted to watch a show about emotionally stable characters with happy pasts I’d be watching a slice of life or something). I largely liked Side Purple for what it is, it’s nice to get some backstory in Yukari even if it is as expected tragic. I liked that they added the detail of him learning swordsmanship from someone before Ichigen, I think it gives more insight as to why Yukari is so skilled and even in some sense why he thought he could go against his teacher, since he originally learned from one of Ichigen’s pupils. And having his original found family be killed by Purgatory gives him a different perspective than Kuroh as far as Ichigen’s ‘kids’ are concerned — Kuroh’s family died in a simple accident but Yukari’s was killed, and that makes all the difference for their perspectives. In a way it makes a nice parallel with Iwafune actually, since Iwafune loses his whole clan to the Kagutsu Crater while Yukari also loses his family to Purgatory, and gives some insight as to why Yukari was ultimately more entranced by Hisui’s path than by Ichigen’s. 

Also I loved that detail that Yukari was almost recruited by Habari, Blue Kings stop kidnapping children challenge: impossible (I just really need Yukari and Fushimi to have some kind of conversation about this okay, they could bond). It puts Yukari in an interesting place regarding the ‘bonds’ created by the Slate, like Iwafune and even Hisui to some extent he’s someone who was affected both by the past group of Kings as well as the current ones. I really liked the final extra chapter too, where the current Yukari returns to his hometown with Sukuna. The melancholy of Yukari remembering his past and the people important to him but also showing more of how he’s becoming family to Sukuna and telling Sukuna to become an adult so they can drink together, I think it was a really nice way to wrap up the story. In general I liked how Side Purple gave us some needed insight into Yukari and how he ended up where he ended up, and I think it was a nice addition to his character even if it did go for the expected K tragedy.

So, I noticed something about Shadowheart's bangs

Now look at Selune

Girl was hating on Selune but had the same hairstyle with her. Did we ever consider that maybe them having the same hairstyle was another peeve of Shadowheart to Selune

idk how it is in other countries but I think one of the most. idk how to phrase this. politically present? problems mandatory drafting causes is that since most ppl were likely to have been soldiers in the past, present or future and so do all of their loved ones is that many refuse to even take the first step which is recognizing that being a soldier, serving and being part of an army is, in itself, an act, and that it’s not a neutral act in any way shape or form

I keep going back and forth on what Pru's uniform is in canon and have reached a conclusion that is making me lose my mind.

I already ran this by Proosh and Kasia, but I think it's plausible, given who Himaruya is as a person and an artist, that he drew and color picked Gilbert’s uniform from the Producers "Springtime For Hitler" scene, and not from a uniform guide, old photos, or antiques/repros.

Exhibit A:

I think Gil's is blue. Because this stage lighting was blue. And given he went to school in New York and has watched things like Schnaas shock-horror films, among other insane media references, it isn't off the table for him to make a choice or reference like this.

Anyway, consider this my redaction on claiming he isn't in SS. How I feel about that in the meta is a whole other discussion.

An underrated aspect of drawing 919 I forgot to mention in my last post: have you ever wondered why I have a tendency sometimes to draw the Wunsoc sweaters as somewhat large and baggy? I think it’s fun to imagine that they might grow into them, just as they’ll “grow into” their role in the Society :)

being raised catholic, and now as an adult repeatedly falling in love with characters that fandoms like to declare catholic, but still managing to reject those headcanons because at heart I'm too much of a stickler for accurate analysis to get behind them when i know the person in question is really meant to be anglican/episcopalian/whatever other flavor of christian

I don't want to live in a world where Ronan and Blue haven't sacrificed Ronan's school sweater for Blue's fashion as a bonding moment. I always spend way too much time working out how I want things to look and then never actually drawing the picture I did these references for but oh well. Added Kavinsky because 7 is a good number and I love this awful trash king.

I suppose I should put somewhere on my tumblr that I'm okay with my ocs being shipped with other ocs so for anyone that wants to, they can find that info. Perhaps in each of my characters intro posts near the end I could stat that? Since there are a few I don't want to have any romantic relations with anyone like CatMask, even if someone were to make a shadow creature that's similar to it.
