Okay, we are going to talk about uniforms here for a second because I have some questions and concerns.

"First Contact" introduced the snazzy blue-ish-gray and black uniforms that were then implemented on the later seasons of DS9. They look fantastic and utilize things like zippers and general functionality (things the old TNG uniforms did not).

Side note regarding TNG's main uniforms:

We know that Gene Roddenberry had a seething hatred for zippers (and understanding dramatic storytelling) and they tried to hide the zippers by putting extra fabric over them and placing them down the back so, in the universe of Star Trek, where these secret zippers technically don't exist, are we to assume that these uniforms are... are... PULLOVERS? Let that thought haunt and vex you.

Okay, back to the matter at hand,

So we have the basic look of the jacket that everyone wears.

Look at those beautiful zippers down the front where they are supposed to be. Love the banded cuffs that match the field colors.

Then we have this cute little number, the "captain's variant", much like Picard's strange velvet jackets in later seasons of TNG. I actually love this more than the basic jacket and wish all the crew could wear it.

Then we have our base layer, the zippidy turtlely neck in the various red, teal, and gold field colors.

And then we have the suns out guns out blue undershirt (nice 😏).

So, here's my question: the basic jacket and the captain's variant vest are seemingly two separate outfits, right? So why does Captain Benjamin Prophet Sisko wear EVERYTHING AT THE SAME TIME? Jacket, variant vest, turtlely neck, undershirt.

Is he cold?? Is it a practicality thing where he peels off layers as various space station juices get on him throughout the day? Does he like looking extra large for extortion activities? Does he think the vest is like a waistcoat that goes with a three piece suit? Does he want extra layers to hide snacks in or maybe deflect wayward blades? I don't know. But he still looks great so that's all that matters.

I know that Dan said she made the foxes color orange so that they couldn't be ignored, but personally I think the real reason was that she had a beef with Allison in her first year and Dan picked the color she thought would annoy her the most

So, I noticed something about Shadowheart's bangs

Now look at Selune

Girl was hating on Selune but had the same hairstyle with her. Did we ever consider that maybe them having the same hairstyle was another peeve of Shadowheart to Selune

I keep going back and forth on what Pru's uniform is in canon and have reached a conclusion that is making me lose my mind.

I already ran this by Proosh and Kasia, but I think it's plausible, given who Himaruya is as a person and an artist, that he drew and color picked Gilbert’s uniform from the Producers "Springtime For Hitler" scene, and not from a uniform guide, old photos, or antiques/repros.

Exhibit A:

I think Gil's is blue. Because this stage lighting was blue. And given he went to school in New York and has watched things like Schnaas shock-horror films, among other insane media references, it isn't off the table for him to make a choice or reference like this.

Anyway, consider this my redaction on claiming he isn't in SS. How I feel about that in the meta is a whole other discussion.

An underrated aspect of drawing 919 I forgot to mention in my last post: have you ever wondered why I have a tendency sometimes to draw the Wunsoc sweaters as somewhat large and baggy? I think it’s fun to imagine that they might grow into them, just as they’ll “grow into” their role in the Society :)

I don't want to live in a world where Ronan and Blue haven't sacrificed Ronan's school sweater for Blue's fashion as a bonding moment. I always spend way too much time working out how I want things to look and then never actually drawing the picture I did these references for but oh well. Added Kavinsky because 7 is a good number and I love this awful trash king.

being raised catholic, and now as an adult repeatedly falling in love with characters that fandoms like to declare catholic, but still managing to reject those headcanons because at heart I'm too much of a stickler for accurate analysis to get behind them when i know the person in question is really meant to be anglican/episcopalian/whatever other flavor of christian

i don't want to put my uninformed foot in my mouth or get involved with the Discourse but i've been seeing the two extremes of reactions to the korean low birth rates issue (on tumblr and twitter both) and i'm just kind of like. look. i feel like "low birth rates (in many countries but especially japan and korea as part of this conversation) are more broadly the result of capitalism/a culture of overwhelming overwork that makes social relationships and having families incredibly inaccessible to young people" and "low birth rates are very much a part of the current conversation about misogyny and social expectations for women in korea especially in the context of reproduction as 'unpaid labor' for women" are statements that can both be true

I suppose I should put somewhere on my tumblr that I'm okay with my ocs being shipped with other ocs so for anyone that wants to, they can find that info. Perhaps in each of my characters intro posts near the end I could stat that? Since there are a few I don't want to have any romantic relations with anyone like CatMask, even if someone were to make a shadow creature that's similar to it.
