hello. I've a rather stupid question. I've only read the books once, as a kid, and I don't understand why people hate calpyso x leo. whys it so bad? why does everyone seems to hate it on here?

First of all, this is my first ever ask, I've made it mother :D Secondly, I'd gladly explain! Though please note that it really has been a good while since I've read the books too, so my memory is kinda foggy :] Warnings for: Slight mentions (but not too much) of rape, pedophilia and mental illness (oh boy this is a tough one)

So, I have made a post abt this before, but it was written in a fit of rage so not my proudest moment (but my most popular post, oops). Anyways, I feel that the hate towards Calypso x Leo is because of a few reasons. 1. It simply didn't get enough development to feel worth it imo. Similar to Jason x Piper, I felt like there wasn't enough there to warrant a canon ship. There is also the fact that personally, I thought that their dynamic was more of a familial or that of siblings, which made me uncomfortable. I would've much rather have them be friends. 2. The uncomfortable age gap. It feels very weird because while yes, Calypso was depicted as a teenager, she is thousands upon thousands of years old. The fact that she fell in love with a literal child is incredibly weird. It was weird enough with Percy, but at least they didn't end up dating. With Leo though, she did end up dating him and the age gap feels very odd. Its even weirder knowing she had a relationship with Odysseus, who by that point was a pretty old dude so she was probably very mature and an adult (though she doesn't act like it). 3. Calypso is kinda a rapist. In the Odyssey myth, she forces Odysseus (a married man) to sleep with her. I'm sorry, but I can't support any relationship involving a rapist unless its rapist x prison cell. It makes me uncomfortable because she could very well take advantage of Leo, a mentally ill teenager with self-esteem issues. 4. Her toxic treatment of Leo. Calypso was very pissed when Leo arrived on her island, rightfully so after what she had gone through, but even then her treatment of his was outright cruel, especially compared to that of Percy and Odysseus. She made him sleep outside, exposing him to the elements after he got flung through the air and ended up on her island, which must've caused some damage. Then after they started dating, I still felt uncomfortable reading about the two, because their dynamic just didn't work, and I don't recall her apologizing to him for her treatment of him. 5. Leo's arc was thrown away. I think the worst of all, is how this impacted Leo's character. He should've had an arc where he learnt to love himself, but because of Calypso he didn't. I think the moral was supposed to be: 'even if you're mentally ill or have problems, you still deserve love!' but it came over more as: 'ignore your issues and get all your love from someone else.' Isn't it more important for kids to learn about self-love? And as an extra: what could've been. I think that Leo shouldn't have gone back for Calypso, that that ship shouldn't have happened. I prefer him going back to Echo and them learning about self-love together as buddies (and maybe evolving into more than that). Echo was stuck in an abusive relationship with the Narcissist, so I think it would a good arc for them both. I also think that if you really wanted a romance, Jason x Leo would've been much better. We know that Rick can write good gay romances, we know that Piper turns out to be a lesbian, so why not make Jason and Leo gay? I think it would add much more to the tragedy of Jason's death, but that's for another post (and this one is getting too long already oops). In conclusion, I think Caleo is bad for many reasons, but especially because it didn't have enough time to develop and the dynamic was simply too creepy for me to get invested in. When something good happens I'm quick to find a fault with it and I'm a lazy person. I have goals but I couldn't give enough of a damn to try and accomplish them.

When I'm angry and will go for insecurities, I'll make it hurt which I admit is a very toxic trait that I'm working on fixing, it's slowly getting there but still quite which is why I added it.

And that's all i can think of right now...OH WAIT im a dark humor type of person, sexual humor as well, i tend to see innuendos in a lit offf things, and that's abt all I can think of...

I can't say for sure what he'll do, but it'll probably involve you being stuck somewhere with him for hours until someone can come save you.)

Go for his insecurities. It makes him laugh. Not in a, he looks down on you way, but in an, aw, look how well shrimpy knows me way. He won't do it back unless you want him to. But he sees it as a love language. Look at you! You see me! Not as half of a pair, but as me! (What a weird little freak)

Look, I'm super  ace so idk how to sexual joke, but I know for sure Floyd does. He might give you a run for your money. If you want to get him to laugh really loud, drop a good out of nowhere, and he'll be dying. Yes, he has gotten kicked out of class for laughing too loudly at a sexual joke you made. But he'll do it back to you, regardless of the consequences, so be on your guard. 

Again, he has perfected the art of the dark joke. Some people can't tell if he's kidding, or if he's really killed people. But if you can keep up with him, he's enamored. Head over heels. Bewitched. Hopefully, you don't have a "that's too far" joke, cause he has millions to drop on you. 

The time had come. The part of the relationship everyone fears had arrived. Meeting the parents.

Floyd, as usual, was no help in preparing you for the encounter.

the reason i’ve been hesitant to vent about it on here is that one: i’m still very confused but also two: i know the whole “i hate men culture” can get out of hand and so i get scared to like vent about things in my relationship because i feel like all i’m gonna get is fuck men!! and dump him!!! and like that’s not actually helpful in an adult relationship unless you’re literally in a toxic/abusive relationship, like the fact is that some things your partner is gonna do is gonna get on your nerves and you’re probably gonna argue from time to time and that doesn’t automatically make the relationship unhealthy unless you’re both dealing with it in not healthy ways or you’re being verbally or otherwise abusive!! but anyway i will explain under the cut, anyone who sends me “dump him” is getting blocked

okay so like i said i’m still very confused about what’s happening so please bare with me. my boyfriend has had a really shitty week, the bike he uses to ride to the commuter train every morning is really shitty but someone stole the wheel off it for some reason and that was annoying. and then like the next morning, so my boyfriend lives in a pretty good area in providence like obviously living in any city is debatably more dangerous than not, but anyway he lives on the second floor of his apartment and there’s a door downstairs to get outside (obviously) and so he leaves his bikes there so he doesnt have to haul them down the stairs everytime he needs them. so i guess he woke up the next morning and saw that the door was open and it turns out someone used a crow bar to break off the deadbolt on the door, grabbed the first thing he saw (my boyfriend’s $1500 dollar bike) and then left. my boyfriend called the police and everything but obviously was super upset and stressed because A) the bike was so expensive and B) someone lich rally broke the door on his apartment building and his landlord sucks and STILL has not fixed it. like obviously an overall upsetting experience. so anyway, we hang out that weekend, i’m trying to cheer him up, we go get him a cheap bike that’s theft proof so he can still ride something to the train every morning, we hang out, the next day we go to the beach and we go to my parents for dinner, everything’s fine. there was one point before we went to the beach that like we both got kind of annoyed with each other and raised our voices but like i... i don’t know like it was dumb and i got over it real quick because like... i didnt think it was a big deal? so anyway that day was fine and then i went to take him home from my parents, he finds out that someone spotted his bike and his roommate tried to go get it but by the time he got there the kid that had his bike was gone. he’s pissed all over again, he’s trying to tell me like what he should’ve done and like how can he get his bike back and i was trying to tell him like you cant think like that what’s done is done and maybe it’ll be spotted again and you can get it back and like that was the jist of it but he starts raising his voice and i was like “please do not misdirect your anger at me” but he continues! and so i just stop interacting because i’m like i’m literally not gonna fight with him right now when he’s literally only doing this because he’s upset about his bike, and THEN he had the audacity to say “i think you’re rubbing off on me, you’re always yelling at me” and this my friends... was when i had reached peak don’t even look at me type pissed off because it was already bad enough that he had yelled at me and didn’t apologize but then he turned it on me???? no! i was not having that! not even to mention that i can’t recall a time that i’ve ever like truly yelled at him?? so i dropped him off and then i left, clearly pissed. and he texts me a couple hours later and is like “sorry i’m a garbage boyfriend, i need some time to think let’s take the next weekend off from each other” and i was like you’re not a garbage boyfriend and i wish like... you wouldn’t do that in your apology and that’s fine like we can take some time we haven’t had a weekend apart since we met but then things get a little weird and he basically implies that he thinks we should break up and i’m sooooo confused at this point because the night before we were literally discussed like moving in together and maybe getting married one day and we also happened to discuss his habit of repressing his emotions and saying he’s fine when he’s not and that seems to have been what he has been doing because his justification for this was that he gets mad at me apparently pretty frequently but he just represses it and now he’s scared that maybe we’re not so good together and we should just call it off now which is clearly him just being fucking scared but anyway so basically we tried to talk for a while and i ended up calling him because i was like i’m not fucking doing this over text lmao and then eventually i was just like “is breaking up what you want? like is that what you want” and he was like “i think so yeah” and i was just exhausted at this point so i was like fine okay, like i’ve tried to talk this out with you and you’re clearly just gonna jump off the cliff anyway so jump. and so we hung up and then three minutes later he calls me back and he goes “i think i’m making a mistake can i take back all of it” and i was like yeah sure lmao and then we talked some more and decided to pause the conversation for now and come back to it in a few days. i told him to write down anything he wanted to talk about so we wouldn’t forget. so yeah. idk. i’m scared he’s gonna do something like this again, but, i think i might be able to get through to him so that he understands he’s just scared and that’s normal but that doesn’t mean you just run away ya know?? idk, if y’all have any helpful advice lemme know
