Personally I like to think that Lian got his hat from a visiting Unovan, or someone from the Pokemon World's equivalent of America in general. (Technically speaking any kind of visitor like that is more likely to be from Orre than Unova, but I think you get my drift. Cowboys.) Legends Arceus very much seems to be taking place in the Pokemon World's equivalent of the Meiji Period, and as the United States was one of the primary driving forces that opened Japan up, it's not Farfetch'd at all to think that Hisui has gotten visitors from Pokemerica before. I like to think that it was a gift from some Pokemerican who took a liking to Lian after seeing how much of an enterprising spirit he has. Also honestly, it could just have been the gem on the hat that was passed down through the generations until it got to Clay, not the whole hat itself.
As for other things that could have gotten passed down to Clay from Lian... Photographs... PHOTOGRAPHS! Photographs from the Meiji Period do still exist! And there's a literal photographer in the game! Photographs from that time period are quite rare, and are therefore highly valuable. They would be a form of treasure which Clay would very much be interested in keeping and preserving. (Personally I think that Clay is the key to Ingo going back home, but that's neither here nor there.)
Farfetch’d. Haha Elesa would be proud of that one
But with what you explained, this certainly seems plausible. Considering Jubilife Village is only two years old by the time you come around as the protag, it seems like a lot of people from different places would have come to check the land out. I’m sure lots of people have come and gone as you said- it’s a new village!! Definitely a good opportunity for Lian to get a hat like that if any of them engaged with the clans!
And as for the gem on the hat, haha another Anon had the same solution too!
Tumblr media
That seems like a much more realistic concept to explain how Lian’s hat is also Clay’s hat. It’s just the gem, but it’s part of the original! I like to think that maybe that wasn’t part of the hat when Lian got it, but because of his love of rock/mineral collecting, he fastened his favorite one there himself. And that’s the part that gets passed down to Clay :)
AND YOURE RIGHT OP! Photographs are absolutely an option I forgot all about the PhotoBooth haha. Clay seems like the kind of man who would have photographs like that around too
(And I am interested in your thoughts on Clay being the key to getting Ingo back home!! You caught my attention!)

Hey, heard things go awfully in America. If I remember correctly, you live there right? I hope you stay safe. -Unovan Nessa Anon
Yeah, I’m in America. And yeah, things are going to shit. Just when we thought Covid was coming to an end, things got much worse. At first, they started pretty far from me, but as things tend to do, they’re creeping into my state. I’m fine, and I’m pretty sure I will be fine. Still, what a time to be alive.
Thanks for your concern. It means a lot to me, actually.
I don’t think I’m really eligible to talk about the situation, so I’m not going to.

Hello Bill! I wanted to know a little bit about Delibird, since it’s getting into the holiday season! Have any fun facts about the sweet boy? (Also why aren’t there more fowl pokemon? I’d have a whole team of chicken pokemon)
Regarding your first question...
Although they’re native to practically any cold area (particularly mountainous areas or cave systems full of ice), they’re actually far, far more common in the southernmost latitudes, particularly Cape Horn of South America, the southernmost regions of New Zealand, and coastal Antarctica. In fact, they’re as numerous in those areas as pidgey or pidove are in northern latitudes.
They’re highly social pokémon, hence their tendency to squirrel away excess food in their tails. As they live in areas where food tends to be scarcer than elsewhere, they’ll use these tails as storage and transport this food to their chicks and the rest of their rookery.
Contrary to popular belief, delibird don’t primarily eat fish or berries but rather krill, crustaceans, and shellfish. If, while hiking through any of the aforementioned habitats, you end up getting struck in the head by several clams or an actual shellder, chances are very good that it’s because a delibird had been flying overhead.
Part of why they’re an ice-type is not simply because they survive well in the cold or can command the ice element the best. It’s also because their tail feathers can generate their own refrigeration effect, which is why it’s possible to store food in this bundle and have it be relatively edible after a month. I say “relatively,” of course, because as this is a delibird tail, whether or not you’re willing to consume anything that close to a delibird’s less sanitary body parts without cooking it first is entirely a matter of personal discretion. It seems just fine for pokémon, however, but just because your pikachu would eat it doesn’t necessarily mean you should.
Delibird are also a migratory species ... in a sense. Every year in the spring and summer, they’ll fly or swim into the open ocean and hunt for about five months, then return to their breeding grounds to lay more eggs. Any excess they food they fish up, they’ll bring to their breeding grounds and feed the weaker, more elderly, or younger members of their flocks. (Delibird that live in the mountains and caves also participate in similar behavior, but they are indeed primarily hunting for anything they can find, including fish and berries if no crustaceans or shellfish can be found. Still, delibird would sooner travel miles to the nearest sea than fish in a local river.)
This behavior (especially given that it occurs at the end of the delibird’s migratory period, which coincidentally tends to be early December), combined with their rather unique coloring, caused them to be associated with the winter giving holidays, especially Christmas. In actuality, delibird’s status as a Christmas icon is only a recent development, the result of Unovan advertisers in the 1930s looking for an adequate mascot to advertise ... soda, of all things. The cartoonish look of the resulting mascot made these ads highly popular, which then led to other companies adopting similar delibird for their holidays, which to make a long story short means capitalism is a very strange concept.
Of course, there is still some grain of truth to these ads: delibird will share their food with lost travelers they stumble across. It’s just highly recommended that one roasts or cooks the food they’re given before eating it.
Also, be warned that not everything a delibird would give you is edible for humans. Delibird seem to think of humans as giant, strange-looking delibird, and so, they will likely attempt to feed a human with whatever a delibird would eat, including incapacitated but still live bug-type pokémon.
Luckily, delibird are gracious givers. They often simply give and fly off, rather than wait around and see if their giftee will eat what they were given. That is to say, a delibird will by no means be offended if you don’t eat the disoriented grubbin they’ve given you.
Unlike their animal cousins, yes, delibird can fly, and they can actually fly better than they can swim. Cartoon delibird are depicted as the opposite (better swimmers than they are fliers), however, largely because ad designers in the 1930s were by no means the most reliable sources for scientific fact.
They are, however, excellent at floating and will form small islands or rafts of floating delibird during the migratory/hunting months to rest. In this state, many delibird (particularly those whose special abilities are either Vital Spirit or Hustle) will either forgo sleep entirely or operate on limited hours of sleep to watch over the rest of the flock. Those with Hustle will weave themselves together to form the inner portions of these rafts until they’re ready to hunt again. Because of the proportion of non-sleeping delibird to sleeping delibird, having a raft wash up onto the shores of the southernmost continents is a rare occurrence; usually when it happens, it’s because the raft is composed primarily of delibird with Hustle, all of whom fell asleep at sea.
Although they’re good-natured pokémon, be warned. If it feels threatened, it will instead give you Present, which will often be vastly unpleasant in most cases. If a delibird smiles at you, reaches into its tail, and produces a light, assume it’s not a healing one and run.
As for fowl pokémon, I agree, anonymous, but don’t lose heart! There may be plenty of fowl-like pokémon we’ve yet to discover.

so poppy’s voice claim is janice kawaye. specifically XJ9/Ami/Dance Station Girl
now you might be wondering: oh but Poppy is white, how can you make her voice claim a poc? well see, i’m stuck between a rock and a hard place because canonically, poppy has almost native fluency in Japanese. It’s hard to come by voices of celebrities who are fluent in both English AND Japanese so unfortunately that really limits my options. :/ she also definitely needs a specific voice type of the criteria of “would not take seriously if she yelled at you” which is what the genki girl archetypes janice tends to play kind of are.
on the topic of race, poppy...is actually kind of nebulous aside from that one racebent atla au i had that didnt go anywhere. here’s the thing. italians...are not actually considered white anywhere except the united states and maybe canada? (i’m not canadian so idk) see the way europe works is while racism is definitely a thing, there is also xenophobia. bad xenophobia. heaven help you if you’re eastern/southern european and in western europe. there is a LOT of anti-mediterranean sentiment.  i’m not going to say racism and colorism dont exist bc they def do (and my heart goes out to everybody caught in the middle of those two isms) esp. even in italy, like, the northerners are always kinda :/ at the southerners esp. sicilians BECAUSE sicily is so mixed, and y’know, xenophobia, so mixing is Bad
example of this: do you wanna know why shakespeare set romeo and juliet in italy? bc england had the stereotype of “lol those crazy over emotional italians of course they’d let a feud spiral out of control.”
and like even in america...italians are white NOW bc, we, y’know, shit all over other POC in an attempt to count - but even THEN, the vast majority of people in power? all WASPS - white anglo-saxon protestants. even as recently as like, the 60s, when my parents were growing up, OTHER WHITE PEOPLE would bully and harass them for being visibly Eastern European. See also: why everybody was protesting The Jersey Shore tv show. (i thought it was a load of bs considering we ARE white here but if this protest and tv show was taking place in England? I would’ve been all over it.)
because, though, in europe, there is an emphasis on xenophobia, if i or any of my family went to visit - we’re seen as AMERICAN and thus get all the perks that come with that. europe USUALLY places country of origin before race unless you are ALSO really visibly not European at all and then i’m pretty sure you get hit with both racism AND xenophobia unfortunately :/
what this means for poppy is - to Italy italians/fiore in pokeau, she is American/Unovan. She is viewed as Generic white American/Unovan tourist in Japan/poke equivalent. In America...it’s tricky. Even in italy/fiore, it’d be a toss up.
because she LOOKS Western European - super pale, light natural hair (lol you didnt think that black hair was natural, did you?) tiny nose etc. she’s SUPPOSED to be a genetic anomaly - hit the lottery and displays all recessive genes in a family of dominant ones, and her powers and general genetics make her the picture of neoteny. once she ages enough (will be a while bc she will always look a good decade younger than she is) she’d actually start to look more Eastern European, at least in her face. (unintentional side effect to this that i belatedly noticed is that she pings all of JAPAN’S standards of beauty except for the round face and her nose being visibly Not Japanese OTL)  her family is actually a LOT darker than she is, although not all icons will reflect this bc lol what is faceclaims for any characters over age 20. her sister actually goes out of her way to tan further bc guidette. (which, yeah, i’d squint at if anybody who wasnt italian tried to write)
also wrt language fluency - she can’t really speak a word of italian/fioran (i cant either, scraped by one semester with a c and gave up. romance languages, man...just too tricky for me.) learning a foreign language in itself is NOT racist and achieving that level of fluency is also totally possible with enough study and i’m sure by now that i’ve established just how much of a bookworm poppy is?
i won’t deny her own INITIAL motivations for learning the language were otaku related but she moved beyond that into just learning it for practical purposes bc in 2 and possibly 3 verses she LIVES THERE for plot reasons and in one verse she travels there regularly also for plot reasons and lo and behold, people can change and become less shitty over time! shocker
anyway this is too long so i’m shutting up now
