I can't believe I never did anything for Conway Day that incorporated some of my culture before. But with Gen 9 taking place in the Iberian Peninsula, I couldn't miss the chance! So it took them to a typical Spanish summer feria so they could dance and enjoy some good food~
The song I used is Odore Feria, the Japanese version of a very popular sevillana by Cantores de Híspalis. Since the DP cast is all Japanese, I thought it would only make sense to use a version they could understand, haha.
The lyrics you can hear in the clip mean "Let's dance (x3), let's dance sevillanas! Let's dance together (x2)!", nothing too complicated but I still wanted to include the translation just in case!
Also, here's the still of Conway pretending to be a cool pro dancer with his castanets:
Casino Royale / Ursula Andress as Vesper Lynd (007)
I think I saw this movie on TV ages ago, but I had forgotten exactly how incoherent it is. It's at least three different movies in one, with sequences that vary wildly in tone and quality ... but even if it's less than the sum of its parts, some of the parts are pretty fun. And I love that Ursula Andress got to glam up in this crystal-encrusted pale yellow dress, since she didn't really get the chance in Dr. No.
Also, is it just me, or does Ursula Andress look kind of like Natalie Portman in profile? (See below especially.)
Abbott and Dr Marshall Quesne as Gomez and Morticia Addams
I've been thinking a lot lately about how Gomez was partially inspired by Peter Lorre and it made me wanna draw one of his characters as Gomez. Tbh I feel a bit guilty for not making Agnes Morticia since she's such an obvious pick, but you must understand that I reeeally wanted an excuse to put more Dr X fanart on this blog
they really need to give ariel more clothes than just that blue dress she was given for 3 days straight. like they rich. where are more clothes for her?
Anything Goes December returns, and it's hard to be more "anything goes" than this truly eccentric outfit that makes Vesper look like a refugee from Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. When asked if she often wears this sort of thing to the office, she answers yes--"because if I wore it in the street, people might stare."
You can't call it tasteful, but that's really not the point. The point is to make an impression and to be as ludicrous as possible. And I guess I have a certain amount of respect for costumers who aren't afraid to go all the way over the top. Which, in this case, is Julie Harris, who also designed the costumes for Eleanor Bron in the Beatles film Help!
Trivia: Originally, Vesper was going to make her entrance riding on an elephant, so the Indian-inspired costume was designed for that. Then the scene was cut, but they didn't want to waste the costume, so it was used for the office scene. Frankly, it makes more sense than many things in this movie.
I just watched the live action ‘The Little Mermaid’
And it was really cute.
Um I can see why we don’t have more underwater movies, a lot of the underwater scenes looked a bit weird. We definitely don’t have the technology for water movies yet and this movie proves that even with a Disney budget.. we just aren’t there… yet.. (i’m mentioning that the underwater scenes, looked weird because I don’t usually notice stuff like that)
Water, she’s a tricky mistress.
I’m watched this movie with the eyes of an adult and I felt Scuttle was in the movie a bit too much, like even if we remove my distaste for Awkwafina.. I felt her scenes could have gone more to Ariel being on the surface, human Ursula or Ariel’s sisters. The screen time could have been utilized better. (Speaking of human Ursula, she was great)
I grew a small hatred for that blue dress Ariel had to wear. It was cute for day one and if she was staying with the village people, I’d understand her having to wear it all the time but she wasn’t… she was staying at a big beautiful castle with royalty. She should have been wearing more than that one dress. Unless one of the deleted scenes shows her struggling to get a different dress on. See I could understand that. The one dress just doesn’t make sense. Like it didn’t even show if this was her favorite dress. (Did they spend all of their money on the underwater scenes?)
Instead of that raggedy blue dress, I would have rather the silver dress that animated Ariel gets when her father turns her into a human. Like THAT is what I wanted. (Like what do you mean the sea has magic and he couldn’t even give her any clothes)
