cannot wait to study on my own the mathematical foundation on how exagons in hot oil form
#sadly they use a octogenarian program for the dinamical system modeling instead of matlab so it will be a struggle#not that matlab is ''good'' but at least i do not have to compile it myself from source

i’m going to fucking explode. who the hell decided that matlab would be a viable coding language. sir this is a messed up calculator-word processor hybrid the damn thing can’t think why are you making me write for loops for arrays in this
#no seriously. why am i using this.#i could do this easy in compsci but noooo i gotta use this for my engineering class#jesus fuck#compsci#engineering#programming#matlab#me post

hi so I want to be an electrical engineer, do you mind if I ask if you have any advice?

Low quality picture of a crow (?)
Of course!! My asks and dms are always open
If you want advice on anything specific lmk! Any questions at all!! But some general tips
-Don't let your math skills get rusty. There is a lot of math. Also invest in a good graphing calculator
-Learn to use a CAD and/or circuit simulator program like ltspice or altium(there are plenty of free ones out there I just cant remember any altium alternatives rn) and get some practice with them, they'll come in clutch
-If you plan on doing pure EE(I'm combined computer/electrical), get familiar with matlab and the like, it's probably the most "coding" you'll need. If you want to do combined computer/electrical, get familiar with basic coding. Most people recommend python for this. I cannot provide recommendations because my first programming language as a kid was C and thus my expectations are way out of whack
-V=IR is your most bestest friend. Save me ohm's law and nodal analysis
-To directly quote one of my lab manuals from an advanced EE practical lab: do not lick the circuits

Hello hello! I'd love to see your answers for all four of your lovely ocs to these questions:
🎮 VIDEO GAME CONTROLLER — what are three of your oc's favorite hobbies?
🌈 RAINBOW — what is your oc's sexual orientation/gender identity? what pronouns do they use?
💛 YELLOW HEART — how many languages does your oc speak? what language(s) are they learning, if any?
🤔 THINKING FACE — what are some of your oc's quirks/mannerisms?
Hi Chichi, thank you so much for the ask 💕Sorry for taking so long to answer it!
🎮 what are three of your oc's favorite hobbies?
Yael: restoring antiques, running, visiting Haley's to spend time with friends or Nate Gabi: science projects (it counts as a hobby, especially the home science experiments she and Farah do together), doing puzzles, watching movies Laura: listening to music, BJJ, karaoke Melike: reading, hiking, cooking
🌈 what is your oc's sexual orientation/gender identity? what pronouns do they use?
Yael: bi, cis woman, she/her Gabi: bi, cis woman, she/her Laura: lesbian, cis woman, she/her Melike: bi, non-binary, they/she (/he --- Melike doesn't really care much what people use, but would slightly prefer they & she)
💛 how many languages does your oc speak? what language(s) are they learning, if any?
All of them speak English, but in addition to that:
Yael: French, some Yiddish, Hebrew and Spanish Gabi: if programming languages also count: Python and Matlab Laura: some German Melike: Turkish, Spanish
🤔 what are some of your oc's quirks/mannerisms?
Yael: when she's uncertain, she starts phrasing sentences in a way that searches for confirmation from the person she's speaking with. This means a lot of "..., don't you think?" "..., right?" "What would you say?" Gabi: she runs her fingers through her hair whenever she's thinking, leading it to stick out to all sides Laura: answered here ^^ Melike: she likes to make lists; to-do lists, lists of pros and cons, grocery lists, lists for everything! They keep a bullet journal in which they list each morning what her plans are for that day and brings it with her wherever she goes.
#oc: yael greene#oc: gabi sousa#oc: laura kingston#oc: melike akyün#i'll have to think of some better hobbies for melike tbh#am not sure about the cooking...#maybe gardening?#now that she can use the garden of the warehouse

Essential Skills Every Electronics Engineer Should Master
Electronics engineering is an exciting and constantly evolving field. With new technologies emerging every day, the need for skilled professionals has never been greater. If you're pursuing a B Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or exploring options at B Tech colleges for Electrical and Electronics, it's crucial to know which skills can set you apart in this competitive domain.
Let’s dive into the essential skills every aspiring electronics engineer should master.
Strong Foundation in Circuit Design
Circuit design is at the heart of electronics engineering. Understanding how to create, analyze, and optimize circuits is a must-have skill. Whether you’re designing a simple resistor network or a complex integrated circuit, mastering tools like SPICE and PCB design software can make your designs efficient and innovative.
Programming Proficiency
Electronics and programming often go hand in hand. Languages like Python, C, and MATLAB are widely used to simulate electronic systems, automate processes, and even build firmware for devices. Engineers proficient in programming can troubleshoot problems effectively and add versatility to their skill set.
Knowledge of Embedded Systems
Embedded systems are everywhere—from your smartphone to your washing machine. As an electronics engineer, understanding microcontrollers, sensors, and actuators is crucial for creating devices that work seamlessly in our daily lives. Hands-on experience with platforms like Arduino and Raspberry Pi can be a great way to start.
Problem-Solving and Analytical Thinking
Electronics engineers often face unique challenges, such as debugging faulty circuits or improving system performance. Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills help them identify issues quickly and find effective solutions. To cultivate these skills, tackle real-world projects during your coursework or internships.
Familiarity with Power Systems
As the world moves toward renewable energy and smart grids, knowledge of power systems is becoming increasingly important. Engineers in this field should understand how electrical power is generated, transmitted, and distributed and how to design energy-efficient systems.
Effective Communication Skills
Electronics engineering often involves working in teams with other engineers, designers, or clients. Communicating your ideas clearly—whether through reports, presentations, or technical drawings—is just as important as your technical skills. Strong communication ensures that your brilliant ideas come to life effectively.

computer literacy skills rant
I don’t want to be overly critical because everyone has to have room to learn new skills, but the junior-most member of my lab is going to give me a migraine.
I’ve walked her through running a simulation step by step, three times, reminded her of our existing reference guides countless times, and walked her through some troubleshooting steps for some common errors in case she encounters them in her work. Today was her first day trying it by herself, with me available via text for questions. It feels like absolutely nothing I taught her stuck, and she always jumped to asking me instead of consulting any of the resources that I know could answer a lot of her questions (because I referenced them religiously when I was learning). The resources couldn’t answer some of her questions, not because they were too complicated, but because they were too simple.
I don’t know how else to try to teach her how to navigate through several levels of folders! I’m not even sure how you can get to a graduate level physics program with that gap in knowledge. I don’t know how else to teach her that she needs to use the full, exact names of files and directories when she is working in the terminal, python, or matlab. I don’t know how else to teach her the myriad of other basic computer skills she lacks. She’s had well over 10 hours of guided practice with me, and I’m just at a loss for what else I can do to get the lessons across.
#rant post#honestly I don’t know how she expects to have a thesis done by the spring at this rate#like she definitely should not be in a computational research group

Computer Language
Computer languages, also known as programming languages, are formal languages used to communicate instructions to a computer. These instructions are written in a syntax that computers can understand and execute. There are numerous programming languages, each with its own syntax, semantics, and purpose. Here are some of the main types of programming languages:
1.Low-Level Languages:
Machine Language: This is the lowest level of programming language, consisting of binary code (0s and 1s) that directly corresponds to instructions executed by the computer's hardware. It is specific to the computer's architecture.
Assembly Language: Assembly language uses mnemonic codes to represent machine instructions. It is a human-readable form of machine language and closely tied to the computer's hardware architecture
2.High-Level Languages:
Procedural Languages: Procedural languages, such as C, Pascal, and BASIC, focus on defining sequences of steps or procedures to perform tasks. They use constructs like loops, conditionals, and subroutines.
Object-Oriented Languages: Object-oriented languages, like Java, C++, and Python, organize code around objects, which are instances of classes containing data and methods. They emphasize concepts like encapsulation, inheritance, and polymorphism.
Functional Languages: Functional languages, such as Haskell, Lisp, and Erlang, treat computation as the evaluation of mathematical functions. They emphasize immutable data and higher-order functions.
Scripting Languages: Scripting languages, like JavaScript, PHP, and Ruby, are designed for automating tasks, building web applications, and gluing together different software components. They typically have dynamic typing and are interpreted rather than compiled.
Domain-Specific Languages (DSLs): DSLs are specialized languages tailored to a specific domain or problem space. Examples include SQL for database querying, HTML/CSS for web development, and MATLAB for numerical computation.
3.Other Types:
Markup Languages: Markup languages, such as HTML, XML, and Markdown, are used to annotate text with formatting instructions. They are not programming languages in the traditional sense but are essential for structuring and presenting data.
Query Languages: Query languages, like SQL (Structured Query Language), are used to interact with databases by retrieving, manipulating, and managing data.
Constraint Programming Languages: Constraint programming languages, such as Prolog, focus on specifying constraints and relationships among variables to solve combinatorial optimization problems.

apparently, by happening to know that you need to preallocate arrays in matlab, i've saved my labmate like five days of simulation time
the shock of having had useful programming-related knowledge not already known to all of mankind was so enormous that i may need to lie down
#my main personal qualities are cute/good at teaching and public speaking/knows fucking nothing about computers#it was like a jumpscare. i had to make him repeat himself so i could parse the sentence#box opener#doctor worm#goddamn.#i did also solve one of my most insanely tedious hand-processing data problems the other day#by... finally noticing that my ROIs were grouped in the time dimension rather than the Z dimension#and just making a time series stack to store them in so they wouldnt pile up on top of each other in one frame anymore.#but in the process of figuring it out i learned to write like six lines of the imagej java(???) macro scripting language!#which is like being able to do things on a computer!

however. they said you can use python "on special request and approval from your ta". i looked at the first lab. it looks doable in python with mathplotlib. im just worried the subsequent labs will get. less doable.

my actual protip, start attending tutoring sessions and have them teach u Matlab- once u know one programming language it makes it easier to pick up another! trust ^-^

So my laptop got revived - gotta now fill it with Matlab and signal processing programs, then got screen from sale for my gaming comp, got it into my bedroom... comp couldn't find wifi despite motherboard having support. Turns out, during over 5 years I never installed the antennae since always had access to cable skdvdkdhdbdhduhdh.
So before fun stuff, gottq use some engineer powers setting up things.

So the programs I have to learn to use this period:
R (fine, whatever, I can do that)
Matlab (okay similar to R but not really but enough that I’m chill)
MAXQDA (dear lord there’s three)
Atlas.ti (y’all I’m gonna scream)
