As a visiting scholar at the University of Western Australia (Perth, September 2005), I was captivated by the sight of peacocks and hens gracing Winthrop Hall. UWA has gained a reputation for the presence of its majestic peacocks, gracefully roaming in and around the Arts Complex. They can often be spotted near the New Fortune theatre or the Arts courtyard. Over the years, these birds have become synonymous with the university.
Although the original peacocks have been replaced over time, their arrival was challenging. Criticism arose due to their perceived "anti-social" behavior, "unbearable" noise, and their remarkable fertility. Throughout the years, there have been more complaints than compliments regarding these birds. Nevertheless, whether adored or disliked, the peacocks have undeniably become an inseparable part of the UWA experience.
I wrote “The Great Australian Landscape,” hugely inspired by the peacocks and Perth’s amazing energy. The poem was eventually translated into Nihongo by Japan P.E.N. Both versions found their way into an anthology published in Tokyo in 2010.

Binance Australia donates $US300000 to UWA for blockchain courses metaverse labs
One of Australia’s leading fintechs will inject $US300,000 ($478,000) into Perth’s burgeoning blockchain ecosystem to help address the tech skills shortage and fund the development of metaverse labs. Binance Australia — which helps customers and businesses access alternative, low-cost digital assets — announced on Thursday the money would be donated to The University of Western Australia through its not-for-profit arm Binance Charity under a new partnership. The partnership will help UWA enhance its existing blockchain courses, while allowing it to build out a full Master’s program. A third of the funding will also be allocated towards developing metaverse labs at WA’s top-ranked university, which will be researched and designed by students. The initiative would enable students to practically engage with blockchain technology, in order to gain the tech skills needed for high demand industries. Binance Australia chief executive officer Leigh Travers said the business was excited to help accelerate the blockchain and crypto literacy of UWA students. “With Web3 adoption within organisations at incredible levels, we’re encouraging university students to broaden their horizons and seek careers in emerging tech,” Mr Travers said. UWA business school’s blockchain program representative, Dr Andrzej Gwizdalski, noted that there had been an increased demand for workers with knowledge in blockchain and crypto. “Students completing the course will learn about the key disruptive technologies powering Web3, how to apply the innovation in business and what implication the technologies will have on work, economy and society,” he said. Web3 represents the next generation of the internet and encompasses digital assets such as cryptocurrencies, blockchain, non-fungible tokens and the metaverse. A recent report from Small Business Prices found Australia was a leader in the crypto space, with 236 jobs available in industries including IT, banking and financial services, computer hardware and software, accounting and finance, and consulting. Freo Groove - Musicians of Fremantle
Kevin Parker is pounding along the coast, between the sea and the great shattered ruin of the old South Freo Power Station, his mind buzzing with musical possibilities. He's always said you can make great music from anywhere - that place isn't a big deal. But the front man of successful psychedelic band Tame Impala recognises that Fremantle has shaped his musical journey: from his first exploratory jams with future band-mates to the modest weatherboard in South Fremantle that he's converted into a recording studio.
`I used to say that I could be anywhere in the world, and I still like to believe that, because I don't believe that the quality or the style of the music that someone makes is dependent on where they are. However, there are many things that seep into your music and one of them is where you live.
`Making the last album, Currents, I was stuck, sitting in the studio and my four walls. I got to a spot where I just wasn't feeling it and the music wasn't very evocative. I got my iPhone and headphones and walked along the beach down to the power station in Coogee. I couldn't believe how much the music opened up and spoke to me, made me feel all kinds of things again. 'A lot of the songs on Currents have passages that were directly inspired by the power house and doing laps of it. It is scary and confronting, but such a beautiful thing. I had one of the songs I was working on at the time on repeat and I wrote a lot of the lyrics down on South Beach. I suddenly remembered the value of being somewhere serene and beautiful and getting inspired in that way. I don't like to think of it as a necessity because music can be written for the purposes of escape. But so much of Currents was mentally conceived between here and the power station all along the coast.'
Gravity
He grew up in Perth, got drum lessons while in high school, and played rhythm guitar with his father, Jerry, playing lead. He went on to play music with Dom Simper, whom he met in high school. The two formed The Dee Dee Dums, the precursor to Tame Impala. Somewhere around the age of twelve, he began fooling around with cassette recorders; bouncing tracks and layering sounds, building a creative methodology that still endures, although the technology is worlds apart. His Fremantle musical story began when he was about twenty and he met the guys from the band Mink Mussel Creek.
`I was in a different band at the time, but I started hanging out and jamming with them. I was living in Subiaco then. I would leave Subiaco on Friday evening and go back on Sunday night. It was like a time warp, like another world. We would have a lot of fun and get up to mischief and make music. I thought it was amazing because it was like being in a parallel universe. It was just this black hole of the weekend when I'd be around Freo. 'It was just such an intoxicating environment, the absolute tunnel vision of the music. It was the centre of how we lived our lives. Everything was based around that. Going out for them was going out and playing a show, and we would start drinking and getting stoned in the afternoon. At some point in the night the show would happen. The show was just part of the evening. That was kind of what our lives revolved around and I just felt such a sense of belonging. A newfound identity.'
It was an intense period of short-lived bands thrown together as fluid musical experiments, with several bands running at once comprising different line-ups of the same core set of musicians. Often, he'd play two gigs a night - one with his old band, The Dee Dee Dums, and then just stay on stage for Mink Mussel Creek. There were gigs at The Swan Basement, The Railway Hotel, Mojos, and the Newport, but the Norfolk Basement - and its bar manager -provided the opportunity for Kevin to take his work to a new level.
'The Norfolk became our second home, because we met Jodie [Regan] and she fell in love with Mink Mussel Creek. She was the bar manager downstairs, and we just thought she was great. She was enchanted by us young, scruffy stoners, who were obsessed with music and didn't have any kind of ego about it. She was like, "Hey, I'll manage you" and we thought, Hey, we've got a manager! We'd go down there during the day and rehearse. The bar wouldn't open until later and I ended up doing a lot of recording down there. They had microphones and mic stands. So I could just go down there for as long as I wanted, which was a dream because up to then I had nowhere to record drums. `The first gig we ever played under the name Tame Impala was at Mojos. It was like a new and exciting time for me because it was just another step of me consolidating what I wanted musically. `There weren't a lot of people, but that didn't matter. Until I first started hanging out with those guys - hanging out in Fremantle - would care a lot more about the audience: how many and how much they were into it. After, it was, well, "they are there or they are not". Our attitude was, we are doing what we are doing because we love doing it. We're not out for approval or validation.'
A Fremantle share house provided a base for a while. Then as Tame Impala enjoyed wider success, Kevin was based in Paris before moving back to South Fremantle.
'I think it was a no-brainer. I had a lot of friends here. I bought a house and lived there for a while and then tore all the walls down and turned the entire thing into a studio and then I bought another house and moved there.'
Complexity
Kevin Parker's approach to making his own music is intense and solitary, although he has had long-standing working relationships with different local musicians. He composes in isolation and works with others to create the live performance.
'Tame Impala on the albums is just one person. It is just me multi-tracking; so basically, me recording wherever I am. 'Because I make music alone and it has got so many different parts to it, there is never a verbal conversation about it. When a band plays music, they are constantly having to talk about it to communicate it. So just from that process, just talking about it out loud, you work out what you like and you don't like. When that entire conversation stays in your head, it is just a thinking process, and you never really work out what you like and don't like and what strategies you like. It just happens. I don't have a framework. I have been doing it for that long it is something that kind of comes naturally. 'I potter in the studio even when I have other things to do. I might record a song or I just go around going, "hullo, what is this?" Unplug this...plug this in. Find a better way to record - kind of like a mad scientist. A cross between a mad scientist and an old lady in the garden pottering around. Somehow songs come out of that. `I make things more complex than they need to be. I would love my music to be simpler. I call my music "kitchen sink music". I just throw everything at it. I will think of a keyboard line - put it in. Think of a guitar line - put it in. Two different vocal melodies - put them in. As I get older I am trying to develop a musical discipline.'
Following the phenomenal commercial success of Tame Impala, Kevin's instincts and production skills, honed over countless hours and through endless musical experiments, are in high demand. As well as working with local bands, including Koi Child and Pond, he's been approached to produce a number of American artists in Los Angeles.
‘I like that I have two lives as a producer. One is doing my friends' stuff in Freo, the other is iconic artists that I've always dreamed of working with. I am suddenly in the same room. It's kind of two extremes.'
As for another Tame Impala album, Kevin will only say that there's some paint on the canvas, but he doesn't know what the final result will be.
‘The change in styles is one of the only things you can bet on. I don't think I would bother doing the same thing again. That is one of the only rules I put on myself. It has to be different and has to have evolved in some way.'

I want to say that this is not poetry for the young. Of course anyone can read it, admire the wit and the wordplay, lose track of the number of perfect lines that emerge, page after page. But there is something else. I looked back to my review of one of Jones’ earlier books Brink, my introduction to her work and to date the only one of her many collections I’ve been able to readily obtain. I was…

Archaeologists discover ancient highways in Arabia
Tumblr media
Archeologists from The University of Western Australia have discovered people who lived in north-west Arabia in the Early to Middle Bronze Age built 'funerary avenues'—long-distance corridors linking oases and pastures, bordered by thousands of elaborate burial monuments.
Dr. Matthew Dalton, from UWA's School of Humanities, is lead author of the findings published in the journal The Holocene.
"Funerary avenues were the major highway networks of their day, and show that the populations living in the Arabian Peninsula 4,500 years ago were far more socially and economically connected to one another than we previously thought," Dr. Dalton said. Read more.

REMINISCE
inspo by the end of a contract by misscremee on wattpad
note: oh, this is like a collab with mod maki bcs the zhongli thing is her idea
summary: you could say zhongli has a good life. a lover, a job, a home. yet something still feels missing. something only a certain zombie can fix.

"qiqi!! where- qiqi! there you are!
qiqi turned her head to face y/n, who was looking for her because she was taking too long staring at the wall while picking some herbs.
xiao suddenly drops from the cliff he was on, now facing the two. "qiqi we've been looking for you"
a while back, y/n and xiao have started dating and came across qiqi. the moment they met her, their only thoughts were to protect and love her with all their lives. they asked baizhu if they could keep her. of course he was hesitant but he decided it was for the best knowing that he probably just wanted her for him to become immortal.
ever since, qiqi has taken a liking to the couple and grew closer to them.
qiqi ran into xiaos arms as he knelt down before them with his arms open. he picked her up while y/n got her basket full of herbs. "lets go home now, yeah?"
they spotted zhongli on the way to the house they rented somewhere in liyue city. "ah xiao, how has it been going for you?"
xiao let go of qiqi and she ran off to y/n as he talked with zhongli. "mor- i mean zhongli! its been going well with y/n and qiqi. its.. been a really long time since i've felt this content and happy."
zhongli softly smiled at him. "thats splendid to hear. i reckon you get going now, you have a family to get back to."
xiao returned the smile. "alright. see you again, zhongli."
zhongli watched it all happened. xiao walking towards y/n and qiqi, smiles on their faces.
but..
instead, he sees him and guizhong. chasing after qiqi.
"qiqi dear! slow down!"
"mama hur- UWA"
"ive got you! slow down!"
"nooo let me go papa!"
a tear escapes his eye as it runs down his cheek. the memories before the archon war flashes before him.
"make them happy, my child. just like what you did to your mama and papa."
he then begins to walk away.
qiqi looks back. "qiqi feels...familar with man"
y/n questions her "hm? you mean zhongli?"
"yeah"
xiao picks her up "well maybe we can visit him when he isnt busy? would you like that?"
"okay papa xiao"
--
ok for those who dont get it basically what happened is xiao and reader adopted qiqi, but qiqi was actually zhonglis actual kid. he and guizhong had qiqi before the archon war started, which is where guizhong died. technically qiqi also died and went on a rampage and had to be sealed somewhere and zhongli was prob depressed or smth. after that, zhongli was like "qiqi omg youre awake" and shes like "who tf are you" and he was like "oh im not a good father maybe have someone else take care of her" and so he let her off somewhere with baizhu and shes suffering from short term memory loss yuh. EDIT: I MADE THIS LAST YEAR OK I JUST DIDNT PUBLISH THIS SORRY IF IT SUCKS LMAOOO

Last night,
#hellopropremier
those that watched it, those that supported it,
Thank you very much!!
Did you also enjoy, the live commentary on Twitter... <3
Through the screen, it was a live stream like this but,
In this way,
Being able to send out songs to everyone, it made me really happy
I think that a lot of people enjoyed it
Everyone singing and dancing, I also thought, sure enough, I like this--
Even if I'm watching myself, I thought, I like myself like that--
And!!
Somehow!!
Yesterday!!
From "16th ~Thats J-POP~" releasing on March 31st
We showed off for the first time,
"Renai Destiny ~Honne wo Ronjitai~"
Did you see!? Did you hear it!?
I decided not to tweet other than at the beginning of the song it was properly sent out to everyone
I really loved that song from the moment I heard it, in particular I super love the lyrics,
Really, it feels like a mission...
why does it feel like that lol
Still from now on, I'm sure there is something I can do
There is something I have to do
Thats right, I think its a powerful reminder
I want to listen to the album soon~ <3
Until March 31st, look forward to it
Recording this premier seat, with the camera before my eyes, Think of it as your fans and look at it a lot! thats what I was told,
somehow regardless, it was difficult the first time
the c-c-camera, is c-c-close right!?
it was like that it was difficult
Always, when on stage for a concert, regardless of appearance, they're always looking! since its war preparation for that,
from here,
look look~ <3
with doing it like that,
do you get it!? its kinda different! lol
But that isn't something I can say←
Let do it--! Lets have fun--! with that feeling,
From about LOVEpedia, I think everyone became relaxed
I've seen it about 3 times already
fufu
Thats right, during the live tweets,

SCENARIO REQUEST: ❝Sailor Moon isn’t outdated.❞
Tumblr media
[ Fandom: Boku no Hero Academia ] [ Characters: Kirishima Eijirou ]
「Aoyama has a younger twin in the support course. The class doesn't know about it until you showed up in class 1-A on Halloween, dressed as Sailor Moon. Kirishima finds himself entranced by your personality.」
KIRISHIMA EIJIROU
"[Last Name], what the hell are you dressed as?" your classmate asked.
"I'm the warrior of love and justice and I order you to be quiet and go along with it. This thing here is a freaking laser beam and it can cut you in half." you waved your wand at them. They chuckled softly in responded, stating that you were getting a bit too into it but it wasn't a bad thing.
Halloween was the perfect holiday. That was what Hatsume always said. The perfect excuse to create new things to your costumes and you can't help but agree. You didn't plan on going as Sailor Moon but when you found the unused laser stick laying in your inventory, it got your creative juices going. And you ended up making it look like some girly magic wand and one of your friends jokingly mentioned that you should cosplay as Tsukino Usagi, who's more known as Sailor Moon to most people. Carried away by Hatsume, you ended up making a replica of the costume. It was a bit embarrassing to be dressed up like this but you don't even know what Hatsume was dressed as and it actually assured you.
The UA Halloween Party was held at one of the gyms but you and Hatsume wandered around the school building for a while. You intended to visit your older brother who had forgotten to bring his wallet, having misplaced it on the shelf in your living room. The pink haired girl accompanying you was talking about what she was going to invent next week in the workshop. Inventing new things was your passion but you don't go overboard and obsess over it like Hastume. You had heaps of ideas and created tons of things, a lot were failures but it never got you down. As the sight of 1-A's classroom came into view, you stopped your conversation with your friend, telling her that you'd be right back.
You stepped into the classroom, everyone still unaware of your presence. Yuga was easy to spot, considering that he was wearing such a flashy and bright costume. And by flashy, you mean a suit that looked like an entire bucket of glitter had spilled over it. His hair stood out from how much gel he used. Why do you need a flashlight in the dark when you have Yuga in the room? He's bright enough to light up any room. Your twin brother rose his head when he saw your silhouette cast over his desk.
"Bonjour. Comment ça va?" you waved at your brother who was seated at his desk. Hatsume stayed outside while you went in. Yuga turned his head to see you standing by the doorway and waved you over.
"Ça va bien, [First Name]! What brings you here on this lovely day?" he asked as you took a seat on his desk.
"You forgot your wallet at home, Yuga. Don't go leaving something so important in random places." you waved his wallet in your hand. He took it from your hands, flashing you a smile.
"Merci!"
It was a long time ago, your brother was infuriated with French and he picked up a few books to study the language. But of course, it was only as a hobby. There's almost zero chance that you'd be using it in Japan. As Yuga's younger sibling and his only playmate, you were dragged into this and you learned quite a handful about the language. It was often that you mixed the words together with Japanese. As the two of you continued your conversation, the students of Class 1-A started to shift their attention towards you.
“Who is Aoyama talking to?" Kirishima hummed, keeping his attention on you. The red haired male was seated on his desk, glancing at your direction. Kaminari, Sero and Bakugou was there with him too, the latter had been dragged by the three of them. Bakugou barely spared you a glance.
"Don't know, don't care." he grumbled.
“I don’t know. But her costume is pretty cute, huh?” Kaminari said, eyeing the perfect replica of Usagi Tsukino’s iconic outfit. Kirishima looked at you a little bit longer. It was rare to have visitors and judging by the way you were interacting with Aoyama, you must be a close friend. He had never seen you before, were you a student or an outsider that Aoyama invited?
“Bonjour, my lovely classmates! I would like to introduce you to my dear sister, [First Name]." Aoyama beams, a bright smile adorning his features, turning around so that everyone could see you. You give them a shy wave, nervous from being put under the spotlight all of a sudden.
"Hello, it's nice to meet you all. I'm Aoyama [First Name]. I'm a student from the Support Course. I'm in charge of my brother's costume upgrades but I actually don't really stick to one student. I actually help with upgrades" you said with a small smile.
“Your costume!” Mina squealed, stepping closer to you and pointing at your costume. You put your hand over your chest, a scarlet blush adorning your cheeks now that everyone's attention is on your outfit.
"That's Sailor Moon, right?" Uraraka questioned.
"Yes, I accidentally made this thing here so I thought why not? I was messing around with laser beams, and made what's basically a Sailor Moon light saber." you waved the wand that you had been holding onto this entire time.
“Do you make any other of our costumes?” Kaminari asked. You nodded, a big grin present on your face. You always loved talking about your work, having those you were making your work for, acknowledge you was the best feeling ever.
"Hm.....I did Froppy's goggles, Yuga's laser belt, Uravity's helmet.....Nothing too remarkable. But speaking of Uraraka-san! I have a few enhancement ideas for your costume after you sent the Support Department a request for something that can aid in rescuing. I can add this thermal tracker feature to your helmet which will help you look for people much easily! If not, maybe X-ray? What do you think?" you turned your attention towards the brown haired female who was caught off guard.
"Uwa! You can do that? That'a amazing!" Uraraka clapped.
"And Kirishima-kun!"
"Y-Yes!?" Kirishima didn't realized that he had been staring at you the entire time you were talking. It was so embarrassing to stutter with his classmates there to witness him.
"I hope you have something interesting in mind because I just received your rough draft. I'll start on your upgrade as soon as possible. I hope you don't mind me being in charge of such an important upgrade." you explain, your mind wandering back to the piles of blueprints you had at the work shop, all of them being new and old ideas. You got a bit too excited talking about work and hopped off the desk, only to lose your footing and fall backwards.
All of a sudden, Kirishima was in front of you, grabbing your wrist and preventing you from falling.
"Thank you, wearing these things isn't exactly my thing."
"No problem!" Kirishima beamed.
"You're such a gentleman, Kirishima. Just like a real life Tuxedo Mask." you chuckled. Kirishima's entire face burned and at this point, he was certain that the color of his face was the same shade as his own hair. How could you say something like that with a laugh?
Suddenly, Hatsume waltzed in the room, grabbing your hand. She scolded you for making her wait at the corridor for such a long time, assumed you for forgetting about her and complained about how boring it was.
"Come on, [First Name], a little bird told me that they're serving [Favorite Food]!" the pink haired began dragging you away.
"It was nice seeing you all! See you at the party or maybe see you when you need upgrades on your costumes!" you gave them a wave before disappearing out the door with Hatsume.
As you left with Hatsuma, Kirishima stared at his hand that had been holding onto your wrists. The girls were still talking about you, mostly going on about how passionate you were with your work. Kaminari, was as usual, talking about how pretty you looked. While Mineta....was just being Mineta. You had left an impression on him, not just him, but everyone in class. No one knew about Aoyama Yuga having a twin sister in UA and were surprised at the difference in personalities.

Thank you for requesting! *。٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و*。  As you can tell, we ran out of title names. I am not afraid to admit that I have never watched Sailor Moon! ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ. I mean, well, its those anime that you'd watch as a kid right? It's released on the 1990s and I wasn't even born back then. Besides, I spent my days watching Naruto (¬ ֊ ¬) So, we tried our best to not go into full detail because we have nothing on Sailor Moon. Hope you liked it, though! ― author Hibiki/Lou
Thank you for requesting!  I. Have. Never. Watched. Sailor. Moon. Either! I didn't watch anime until I was a bit older and I was more into Shonen stuff. So, the two of us, who knows pretty much almost nothing about Sailor Moon, did this request. If this doesn't meet your expectations, then we apologize. ― author Natsuki

56 new species of arachnids found in Western Australia
by University of Western Australia
Researchers at The University of Western Australia and the Western Australian Museum have discovered 56 new species of arachnids, known as schizomids, in Western Australia's Pilbara region.
The research, published in Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, found all the new species, apart from one surface-dwelling species in Karijini National Park, live their entire lives underground—which makes them difficult to collect.
Lead researcher Dr. Kym Abrams, from UWA's School of Biological Sciences, said although the research team had not yet formally named the new species, they were able to use DNA sequences and physical characteristics to determine that there were at least 56 new species from WA alone...
