My reflection as a student at the university of Windsor
I decided to stay at home for my university experience. The programs offered are very diverse with supportive professors. Going from high school to university was big transition. However, there is a lot of on campus support students. One of the courses I am currently taking is KINE 2040- Sports Nutrition which teaches students about how food affects athletic performance. I previously took MGMT 3420-Compensation Management which helps students develop pay strategies and job evaluation.
Some of the tools I would use on campus is the Leddy Library, and the Toldo Lancer Centre. Both places are quite good to de-stress. Both offer spaces for studying. However, the Toldo Lancer Centre also has multiple gyms available to students to help maintain good health.
I also used tools such as Notion for organizing class notes and the google calendar to help me manage deadlines and classes. A great tool for students is the academic advising department. This helped me stay on the right track for course requirements.
Some advice for new students:
-Check Brightspace multiple times a week
-Meet your professors during office hours if you ever get stuck on course material
-Do some type of extra curricular such as clubs or events
-Try to start your assignments days in advance(saves stress)
Some blogs to keep in touch with
If you're looking for something to do then blogs leddy.uwindsor.ca is the place for you. Keep yourself updated on campus activities.
Thanks for readying my post! I'll keep updating you guys about university life based on what I learn in class.

Lethal weapon: New antimicrobial coating could revolutionize cleaning methods
We've gained a new weapon in the fight against harmful and often antibiotic-resistant pathogens with the development of a unique material engineered to limit disease spread and replace current cumbersome cleaning protocols on high-touch surfaces like door knobs and hand rails. Using the Canadian Light Source (CLS) at the University of Saskatchewan (USask), researchers from the University of Windsor (UWindsor) have developed and tested a compound of ionic (salt-based) fluids and copper nanoparticles that can coat surfaces and provide germ-free protection that lasts far longer than conventional bleach-based cleaning. For Dr. Abhinandan (Ronnie) Banerjee, the composite material is far superior to "somebody with bleach and a rag trying to keep surfaces sanitized." Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, Banerjee and colleagues on the UWindsor's Trant Team—a research group focused on synthetic bioorganic materials—set their sights on improving sanitizing protocols, which at the time often involved frequent application of compounds like bleach.

My UWindsor Journey
Hi All!
I'm currently a third year mathematics student at the University of Windsor, and I've created this blog to share the experiences and tips I learned during my time as a Lancer!
I remember my first year of university like it was yesterday. I was a struggling general science student with terrible studying habits and what felt like no resources. I was overwhelmed and wanted everything to go perfectly, but as time went on, I realized that with the proper support and more of an emphasis on the small wins, I could succeed.
Some of the most important tips and tricks I have picked up along the way include finding your own study style. In first year, I was so stuck on studying by myself in the library with my flash cards, because thats what everyone else was doing, but it just didn't work for me. Now, I prefer to go over material in small groups on whiteboards, and I have seen a drastic improvement in my grades. Try different methods; what works for someone else may not work for you. Also, you need to study what you are passionate about; one program change later, and I've never been so happy to be in class. When you are passionate about what you do, it drives you to do better.
Perhaps the best piece of advice I could offer is that a little self-compassion goes a long way. We all have bad days, failed quizzes, and just okay midterms, but they are all a part of the journey. What matters is what we learn from those experiences and how we bounce back.
Okay, just one more. SLEEP is the key to success! Don't stay up for that extra hour to study, I promise that if you just go to bed you will do so much better. I refused to believe that sleep was this important until I started making it more of a priority this year, I have noticed a huge change in my cognitive ability while test taking.
That's all for now! I hope this blog is helpful to all those on their UWindsor journey, and I'd love to hear what tips and tricks you guys use in the comments.

Navigating University w/ Simone!
Hello! Welcome to my little corner of the internet where I will be sharing what it is really like being a student at the University of Windsor. If you are into honest reflections, study tips, and student life chaos, you are in the right place.
A Bit About Me:
I’m a full-time student at UWindsor juggling school, work, dance, and a million open tabs (literally and mentally). This blog is where I will post about the real stuff—what I am learning, how I am growing, and what is helping me along the way.
What I Have Learned So Far:
Here is the truth:
Time management will either be your best friend or your worst enemy.
At first, I thought I could just remember everything in my head. Spoiler: I could not. Now I rely on:
Google Calendar to schedule my life
Notion for to-do lists and class notes
Spotify for setting the mood with my favourite study playlists.
And before I study, I set the mood: clean desk, candle lit, playlist on. It actually helps.
My Go-To Student Resources
These are my ride-or-dies:
Quizlet – for flashcards that save me before exams.
Leddy Library Writing Support Desk – lifesavers. They helped me clean up a messy thesis draft FAST.
Balancing Dance + Student Life
On top of being a full-time student, I am also a dancer—so life definitely never feels slow. Between rehearsals, classes, performances, and competitions, it can be a lot to juggle. Dance is such a huge part of who I am, and honestly, it helps keep me grounded when school gets overwhelming.
Some weeks are harder than others, but I have learned a lot about time management, discipline, and listening to my body. It is a constant balancing act between doing what I love and making sure I am staying on top of assignments (and sleep).
Having dance in my life reminds me that I am more than just a student. It gives me an outlet to express myself and a community that supports me through everything.
Blogs That Inspired Me!
Before starting this blog, I checked out what other student creators were doing.
Some of my favourites are:
@2ujean – She somehow makes everyday moments feel cinematic. Her videos are cozy, raw, and remind me to romanticize even the stressful parts of being a student. Total main character energy.
Hannah Elise – She is not in school anymore, but I found her YouTube channel back in my first year and her videos seriously helped me through it. From study tips to daily routines, she made everything feel less overwhelming. Her passion for marketing and communications is actually one of the reasons I chose my major in the first place.
Final Thoughts:
If you are new to university or thinking about starting something creative like this—do it. Do not wait to be “ready.” Start messy. Start scared. Just start. Growth comes from the doing.
Thanks for reading! I will be updating this space with more of what I am learning, struggling with, and figuring out in real time.
Feel free to follow, ask questions, or just vibe with me! See you in the next post!

my university has just given us less than a week to move out of residence (unless you're an International student or cannot get home due to exceptional circumstances) with like no warning. We were told time and again via e-mail that residences would remain open and that our contracts would last until the expected end date. Luckily for me I had already been planning on moving out but this shit is going to negatively affect a lot of students. The refunds are also only starting from the 23rd today OR the 28th not the day that you actually fully move out.
It's also important to note that there are only 3 confirmed cases in our area and the two that have been reported on are due to travel, and working in an infected healthcare facility.
The University of Windsor's response so far during this has been awful. If you are considering going here, don't. If you want more details on their response from the perspective of a student living on residence please feel free to DM me.

Blood Donations
From joining the Uwindsor Blood Club I have learned that Canadian Blood Services is responsible for managing the nation’s blood supply. The plasma we collect and test in Canada, some goes to patients for transfusion, while most is shipped to pharmaceutical manufacturers contracted by Canadian Blood Services to produce medications. While the blood collected is manufactured into blood products, including red blood cells, platelets and plasma for transfusion. Just one blood donation can save up to 3 lives.

A Community Engaged in Research.  Giselle Kagheni Regen 4540 Uwindsor
Purpose:  Hello tumblrs, the purpose of this blog is to inform and educate on the importance of research and how impactful it is for the community. Research is the main reason why we have pain killers like Advil and Tylenol that you can easily get at your local pharmacy. It is also because of research that now we can treat certain illness that could not be treated in the past. One major milestone in regenerative medicine that doctors and researcher have overcome is transplantation. Because of research, people can donate blood, organs and even stem cells, which allow patients to have another chance at life. As research continues to happen in the Windsor-Essex communities, more support is needed from the community itself. Research is expensive and requires a lot of special machines and equipment that allows researchers to conduct the research. It also goes through rigorous testing procedures that helps researchers collect information about how safe medicines or medical procedures are for the community. Thus, it is important that the community gets involved and provides support by, sharing the research on social media platforms, donating blood, organs or stem cells, or even providing financial support.
Regenerative medicine! What is it?
Is it a field in science that seeks to apply the understanding of regenerative biology to restore tissue structure and function in damaged, non-regenerating tissues?
An example of regeneration
Tumblr media
Most of us, if not all of us, have played with worms during childhood. Well, these little guys have the capacity to regenerate after injury. Meaning, if you cut them, they don’t die, but their body makes new cells and the injured worm becomes a full worm again.
Gastrointestinal (digestive system) tumours and cancer stem cells
Tumblr media
You might be convinced about why research is important, but not why you should get involved. Luckily, I will be talking to you about something that is very important for all of us. And that is, the digestive system. You might have learned about it in grade school or high school, but we all know that the digestive system is very important.
The digestive tract is lined with special tissue called the mucosa, or mucous membrane. The mucosa itself  consists of epithelium, lamina propria and muscular mucosae. This is very important for the digestive tract and is what allows to body to absorb all the nutrients we need, from the food that we eat.
Sometimes the digestive tract gets bruised and needs to be repaired or the lining tissue needs to be replaced. The stem cells (which are cells that can make the tissue in the digestive tract) are the ones responsible for rejuvenating the lining so that digestion can happen smoothly. However, sometimes issues arise from stem cells. When stem cells are not being well regulated or controlled, it can lead to intestinal tumours. This has a higher chance of happening if you as an individual are more genetically prone to developing tumours in the digestive tract.
Nevertheless, there is hope in regenerative medicine and research. In the following segment, I will be talking about stomach cancer and how regenerative medicine treats the disease.
Stomach Cancer
Tumblr media
Interesting fact: Did you know that your stomach lining is replaced every 4 days and your stomach cells that meet digesting foods are replaced every 5 minutes.
Stomach cancer is when cells grow in the stomach abnormally and out of control. The stomach is basically a sac made from smooth muscle and it holds the delicious food that we eat. Stomach cancer is very common and is one of the top causes of cancer deaths. Some of the symptoms for stomach cancer include but not limited to, heartburn, having difficulty swallowing, nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, etc. The stomach is very important for your digestive system and finding ways to prevent and treat stomach cancer using regeneration is crucial.
Immunotherapy is one way to treat stomach cancer. It is a treatment method that helps the immune system fight cancer cells. Cancer cells produce proteins that make it hard for the immune system to recognize cancer cells as dangerous, but the immunotherapy help prevent that.
Highlighting local researchers
Tumblr media
Introducing DR Sindu Kanjeekal. M.D.
DR Sindu Kanjeekal is a practicing doctor and a researcher working at the Windsor Regional Hospital.
What is her research focus?
Her research aligns with her clinical practice including hematological, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary cancers. She is a member of the Myeloma Canada Research Program and couple of their projects include testing novel compounds on myeloma and establishing a national database to support Canadian research. In the GI cancer field, she works on immunotherapy drugs for colorectal cancer which would potentially change the way the disease is treated.
Where does she get inspiration?
Dr Sindu enjoys running without music and lets her mind wander. She finds it relaxing and this helps her find solutions for problems she struggles with during the day.
What motivates her to do research?
She is motivated by her desire to ease the burden that cancer places on her patients and her family.
Why it matters?
Tumblr media
Now you might be wondering why any of this matter right? Well… what makes it possible that you are now able to go to a local pharmacy and buy painkillers like Advil and Tylenol for your headache? Or how were we able to create vaccines that help us fight against deadly diseases like polio, tetanus, and influenza? RESEARCH! Research is the main reason why scientists are able make these insane, yet possible breakthroughs. In fact, studies have shown that hospitals that are involved in regenerative research have better outcomes with their patients. Here in Windsor, we have our own institute called We-Spark that partnered with the Windsor Regional Hospital, St-Clair, the University of Windsor, and Hotel-Dieu Grace. We-Spark focuses on research that is focused on “improving outcomes for the people in our region”.
How can I get involved?
Tumblr media
You might be thinking, “well, I am not a scientist”, or “I am not interested in science, so how can I get involved in research?”. Well, I have great news for you! You do not need to be a scientist, or even know much about science to support the local research of Windsor-Essex. One way you can help is donating blood, organs and even stem cells. You might already be aware of blood donations or probably know of someone who is a blood donor. Hospitals run short on blood donations and always need more blood for certain patients. Also, some illnesses like liver cancer that has progressed, require transplantation. They need a liver cells of a healthy individual , to rejuvenate the damaged liver of the patients. In addition, stem cells are very important for research and for treating illnesses. Stem cell therapy is a method that has been studied by many scientists, and it involves taking stem cells from a donor and giving them to a patient needing them. These stem cells then get adopted in the patient’s body, at the location of the illness and help in rejuvenating the damaged tissues.
