Obito was walking calmly in the busy street of Konoha, absentmindedly looking at the various items on sale from windows to outdoor stands. Then, all of a sudden, a sharp pain strikes him and his hip seems to give out on it’s own. He doesn’t get the time to voice his surprise, or even to grab at his side, before his face meets the dirt full force from his unexpected fall.
“Guhh..!” Sporting a pained expression, his cheeks redden in embarrassment when he notices the many eyes on him. Usually, when that happened in the past, he’d always pretend to be a clumsy idiot. Now it’s just embarrassing…

A (Mostly) Comprehensive List of Tumblr Holidays
I saw this post about Tumblr holidays/celebrations, and there were a ton of them, so I decided to make an organized list and their meanings. I am also adding famous "fandom holidays" to this list. Feel free to point out any I missed/explained incorrectly and I'll add them!
Tuesday:
Supernatural Tuesday --- an episode of Supernatural was about a time loop where it was always Tuesday. Can be posted on any Tuesday.
Leave the Bog --- a meme with a drawing saying "When it's safe to leave the bog" and an arrow pointing to Tuesday. Can be posted on any Tuesday.
Thursday:
Out of Touch Thursday --- a video of the cast from the anime Lucky Star dancing to the song "Out of Touch" by Hall and Oates. Can be posted on any Thursday.
Thursday the 20th --- a screencap of a rapper in The Simpsons with a gold necklace that says "Thursday the 20th". Can only be posted on Thursdays which are also the 20th of their month.
February:
Galentine's Day --- February 13th. From an episode of Parks and Rec where Leslie dedicates this day to celebrating female friendship.
March:
Pi Day --- March 14th. The first digits of pi, 3.14, line up with "March 14" or 3/14.
The Ides of March --- March 15th. The day that Julius Caesar was assassinated. Many memes and jokes are made about him, the assassination in general, or bad luck.
Evergiven/Suez Canal Anniversary --- March 23rd. Refers to an event where a ship, the Evergiven, got stuck in the Suez Canal.
94 Meetings Day --- March 31st. From an episode of Parks and Rec where April doesn't think this day exists and books all of Ron's appointments then.
April:
April Fools --- April 1st. Also a real world holiday. The most popular prank is Rickrolling.
Mishapocalypse --- April 1st. On this day, Tumblr users spam one specific photo of Misha Collins, who played Castiel on Supernatural, where he is looking at the camera wide-eyed.
Neil Banging Out the Tunes --- April 13th. Refers to a photo of a rat by a children's keyboard with the caption "Neil banging out the tunes April 13th 2006".
Homestuck Day --- April 13th. The birthday of Homestuck, a web comic. It is/was one of the most popular fandoms on Tumblr.
It's Gonna Be May --- April 30th. Comes from a GIF of Justin Timberlake singing the song "It's Gonna Be Me". In the song, he pronounces "me" like "May".
May:
Star Wars Day --- May 4th. It comes from a pun between "May the force" and "May the Fourth".
Revenge of the Fifth --- May 5th. It comes from a pun between "Revenge of the Sith" and "Revenge of the Fifth".
June:
Let Papyrus Say "Fuck" Day --- June 16th. Someone who was annoyed with mischaracterization of Papyrus from Undertale established this holiday and it caught on.
July:
Dashcon Anniversary --- July 11th. Dashcon was a poorly organized attempt to hold a Tumblr convention.
September:
21st Night of September --- September 21st. The day referenced in the catchy disco song "September" by Earth, Wind, and Fire.
Frodo and Bilbo's Birthday --- September 22nd. The joint birthday of Frodo and Bilbo Baggins from The Lord of the Rings.
October:
Mean Girls Day --- October 3rd. This comes from the part of the movie where Cady's crush asks her what day it is.
Treat Yo'Self --- October 13th. From an episode of Parks and Rec where Tom and Donna have a day to pamper themselves.
November:
November 5th --- Multiple holidays. It's Guy Fawkes Day (a holiday in Great Britain where effigies are lit to celebrate the failure of a traitor), and some people post screencaps of the movie V for Vendetta, where it's mentioned. November 5th, 2020 specifically had three huge news items: rumors of Vladimir Putin's resignation, Destiel (a ship from Supernatural) becoming (one-sided) canon, and the controversy over counting electoral votes in the U.S. election.
Life Day --- November 17. The equivalent of Christmas in Star Wars.
December:
Christmas Adam --- December 23rd. It comes from a Tumblr post making a pun on "eve" and "Eve" (from the Bible). As the original Tumblr post describes, it "comes before Christmas Eve and is generally unsatisfying".
Almost Christmas (Means It Wasn't Christmas) --- 11:59 P.M. on December 24th. This is from Ace Attorney, a video game where you're a defense lawyer. The fact that it's not quite Christmas is a crucial piece of evidence in one of the cases.
DL-6 --- Christmas/late December. This is when one of the most famous cases from Ace Attorney (mentioned above) occurs.
Other:
Annoy Squidward Day --- either January or February 15th. This refers to an episode of Spongebob where Mr. Krabs votes for Employee of the Month; a screen cap shows Spongebob pointing to the 15th day on the calendar with a sticker of Squidward on it.
Fuck this Post and Happy Birthday [Fictional Character] --- any character's birthday. The original Tumblr post starts out with a user saying "People who celebrate fictional character birthdays are annoying, pass it on", and another retorts with "FUCK this post and happy birthday, Sonic". "Sonic" can be replaced with a character of your choice.

I, 0, Your Fellow
I read somewhere that someone had a headcanon that X wrote "I, 0, Your Fellow" the song, and that he used to sing it to comfort himself or Zero. Well, I started humming the tune, and I thought, "I'm a musician, maybe I can make some words."
So I did! Unfortunately, I don't have music with it just yet. I don't have a decent recording setup at this time, so I'll just link you to my favorite rendition of I, 0 Your Fellow and you can follow along if you want to. :D
Also, I tried to strain out as much of the cheese as possible so it reads like someone put some thought into it. This one comes from X's point of view, after Zero has sealed himself for the first time, but during the Elf Wars.
Full post after the "keep reading".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQWstGcXi-A --text link in case the linked words below don't work. Story Music Box - Yoshi's Island (Megaman Zero 3: I, 0 Your Fellow) [EXTENDED]

words to "I, 0, Your Fellow"
(verse 1) Evenlight arrives Stars twinkling softly in the Gently fading light Overflowing thoughts of you Streaming forth from my eyes I reach out to the sky For you Only you
(verse 2) Always by my side You were always reaching for me Telling me I'll be alright I wish I could hear you now Holding me with that Voice so sweet I never told you How much I ….
(refrain 1) Loved the way the wind whipped through your hair Warmed whene'r your smile showed you cared Never would you leave me to fight alone Oh, you glowed… like Firelight my hero
(verse 3 leading into refrain 3, sing almost in a whisper) (music slows down, becomes more solemn) Embers fill the air All around is burning yet I Fight for all we had And for all that yet will be Someday I'll be with you again And I can show you All I need you to know
(refrain 3)(stronger, victorious) Listen to the beating of my heart Deep within me we are not apart You and I are always fighting side by side Endlessly You and Me Light and Dark
************************************************************
OR (music slows down, becomes more solemn)
(verse 3 leading into refrain 2, sing almost in a whisper) Embers fill the air All around is burning yet I Fight for all we had And for all that yet will be Someday I'll be with you again And I can tell you How much I ….
(refrain 2) Hurt the way that you did when you cried How I always knew where you'd hide Your heart is softer than you wanted me to know You always glowed Strong and brave My hero
************************************************************
I couldn't decide which version I liked best, so I included them both. I didn't write a 4th verse, so just do whatever. :D

Hi! I love your posts and insights about the Wars of the Roses. Do you think you could talk a bit about Richard Duke of York? What do you think his character/life was like? Also re his and his sons appearance??
Hi! I'm sorry for taking so long to answer your ask, but I just couldn't find the time before. (I happen to currently have more free time than usual, due to particular circumstances.)
Thank you for asking about Richard, Duke of York, because I think he is a very interesting historical figure who gets usually overshadowed by his sons. If one day someone decides to make a new TV show or movie about the Wars of the Roses that doesn't just skip over the 1460s and start when Richard Duke of York, his life would make quite a compelling story.
As for historical books about him, I recommend Matthew Lewis' Richard, Duke of York: King by Right.(2016), which is a very detailed (but still very interesting, to me at least) account of his life. I read it a few years ago so I don't remember all the details, only the main points and overall impression I got from it.
My main impression is that, although he is often portrayed by pro-Lancaster writers as power-hungry, this is far from the truth. It seems unlikely that he ever wanted to challenge Henry VI and put himself forward as king, before the last year of his life - and this controversial act makes perfect sense when you look at the circumstances and the things that had happened to him and his family just before that. Besides, while Richard was for a long time - before Edward of Lancaster was born - Henry VI's heir, it seems more likely that he was hoping that his son would one day succeed Henry, rather than himself, since Henry was younger than him and in good physical health. Rather than the result of some evil overreaching lust for power, it seems to me that his conflict with the Lancaster/Beaufort faction was a result of the years of frustration over his treatment. As the conflict grew, staking his clai to the throne throne may have been an act of desperation (since, at that point, this must have seemed like the only way to protect himself and his family), but maybe he was also just really done with everything, and with Henry VI and unwilling to support him as King. Considering the context, I don't really think even pro-Henry VI people could really blame him.
But first I think we'd have to go back to the beginnings. I think that Richard's childhood and, most of all, what happened to his father, is what framed his whole life. Richard's mother, Anne Mortimer (great-granddaughter of Lionel, Duke of Clarence, the second of the sons of king Edward III who survived childhood), died soon after giving birth to him, aged only 22. His father, Richard, Earl of Cambridge (himself the grandson of Edward III through his 4th surviving son Edmund, the Duke of York), was executed - when Richard wasn't even 4 years old - for his involvement in the Southampton Plot to depose Henry V in favor of his brother-in-law, Edmund Mortimer (but since Edmund had no children, really in favor of his own son Richard, who would be his heir).
After all, the Lancasters, i.e., Henry V's father Henry IV , himself the son of Edward III's third son John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, had deposed Richard II, skipping over the line of the elder son Lionel, so it could have been reasonably argued that the Mortimers's claim to the throne was stronger (sure, it was through the female line - but so was the English royals' claim to the throne of France - France had installed the Salic Law to bar the female lines from the throne of France - really to bar the English kings from it, but England did not). But Henry V was a crowned and annointed king, so trying to depose him would have been treason... (Even though he was only on the throne because his father had deposed, imprisoned and starved to death another annointed king. To quote one of my favorite TV shows, "Treason, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder". But it's crucial whether you won or lost.)
Just a couple of months later, his uncle Edward, his father's elder brother, was killed without children, Richard became the heir to his lands and titles and became the Duke of York at the age of 4. Ten years later, after the death of his maternal uncle Edmund, he also became heir to the Mortimer estates.
So, young Richard grew up as an orphan but also one of the technically most powerful and richest people in England, and heir not just to titles and lands but also the claims to the throne from not just the 4th but also the 2nd son of Edward III (the latter being the senior line of succession after the deposition and death of Richard II) to rival the Lancaster dynasty. And at the same time, he lived in the shadow of the fact that his father had died as a traitor and rebel against the crown for pressing that same claim.
If I were to speculate about Richard's personality and how his upbringing shaped it, I think he was a person who tried hard to do everything right, to fulfil his duties in every way and be beyond reproach, exactly because he had so much responsibility and probably so much to prove. Something that really strikes me about Richard is that he seemed almost too perfect: competent, respected nobleman popular with the people, in a stable marriage, not known to have any mistresses or sexual transgressions, had seven children who suvvived childhood including four sons...What the contrast to Henry VI, a nice and pious man but notoriously disinterested in ruling (long before he started showing signs of mental ilness and became catatonic), prone to relying on favorites such as his extremely incompetent cousin Edmund Beaufort. and also, for a long time, unable to conceive a child with his wife Margaret of Anjou (and possibly uninterested in trying), before finally siring Edward.
And this is exactly why Richard must have come across both as such a threat in the eyes of Queen Margaret, Edmund Beaufort and other people around Henry VI. How could they not be wary of his powerful man, Henry's cousin and heir, who had all the qualities you'd want in a king, which Henry lacked? However, if he was really power hungry and eager to replace Henry as king, he certainly didn't show that for many years. I think he must have been especially eager to prove his loyalty with the "son of the traitor" thing hanging over his head since he was a child. But he was nevertheless constantly under suspicion and distrusted by the Queen and her faction. I remember reading the details of his career, which come across as Richard constantly having to prove himself while being denied positions or sent away - his appointment in Ireland was really meant a virtual exile, to get him away from court (but it resulted in him and by extension the York dynasty gaining long-term popularity and stronghold in Ireland). (One of the common myths is that Richard was warlike and that this got him in conflict with the supposedly more peaceful faction - in fact, if I remember correctly, it was Edmund Beaufort who acted belligerent in France but made a mess of things, which Richard then had to clean up.)
It all must have been really frustrating to Richard - he was doing everything right, but it was never enough, and he had to prove his loyalty over and over. Maybe the Queen and the Lancastrians really created a self-fulfilling prophecy. Theoretically, I suppose Richard could have been binding his time and playing some really long con to depose Henry, but that seems unlikely looking at the details.
Instead, I think the most likely reason for his decision to start claiming the throne for himself in 1460 is that the conflict had become too harsh and the situation too desperate after he had been proclaimed a traitor to the crown and had to flee to Ireland. The attainder meant he was to be killed if he set foot in England again, and his family was disinherited. He had to successfully invade (ironically, he was in a similar situation that the future Henry IV before he deposed Richard II) and then either make himself Lord Protector again or even Henry's heir, or to proclaim himself the true king.
But I thin the earlier loss at the castle of Ludlow, when the Yorkist troops were reluctant to fight the Lancastrian army when Henry VI himself was at its head (a puppet or not, ineffectual or disinterested, the annointed king was seen in an almost religious light and had enormous symbolic authority), and then the brutal sack of the castle, where Richard's wife Cecily Neville, his daughter Margaret and his two youngest children George and Richard (who was only 7) at the very least had to witness awful scenes of rape and pillage, by that same army with Henry as its nominal head... this may have been the straw that broke the camel's back and made Richard decide he was done with Henry VI. (Whether or not he had earlier really respected Henry or just respected his position as King.) And I really can't blame him.
I wonder how he felt when he finally made that decision, which would lead to his death less than a year later - followed by his eldest son's successful campaign and decisive victory over the Lancasters? Was it sheer desperation and survival, was he angry, did he decide he deserved the crown after all and was going to take it, did he feel any pride and relief that his decision would also basically mean an annoncement that his father was not really a traitor? I don't know, but I'm surprised there aren't more novels, movies and TV shows with him as the protagonist, delving into those questions.
Now, as for Richard's appearance and those of his sons.
There doesn't seem to be a lot of direct evidence of what he looked like (and the drawing that, for whatever reason, you'll find most often as a supposed portrait of him on Google definitely isn't reliable), but there are some indirect ones: Richard III was said to particularly look like his father. The phrase about Richard III looking like his father in face and figure has been often interpreted to mean that Richard, Duke of York was short, because Richard was a bit on the shorter side. However, there's no indication whatsoever that York was short, and we know that Richard III was shorter than he would've otherwise been due to his scoliosis (but still quite taller than some other men such as Niklas von Popplau, the German knight who was his guest and described him later). And to put things into context - Richard III was being praised for his similarity to his father and the mention of his figure seems more likely to be a reference to the late Edward IV becoming notoriously overweight in his 30s (while Richard was slim and lean), so I think it simply meant that their father Richard Duke of York was slim and in good shape when he was killed at the age of 49.
This miniature portrait of Richard Duke of York from the Talbot Shrewsbury book (around 1445, when he was 33/34, around the same age Richard III was when he died) shows a blond man with a strong chin - similar to that seen in the portraits of his sons Edward and Richard, an acquiline nose similar to Richard, and full lips (the one detail that doesn't match Richard that well and in fact seems more similar to Edward, going by their portraits).
Tumblr media
There are a lot of myths about what the brothers looked like that were mostly created by historical fiction - including that Edward and George were tall and strong while Richard was small (in fact, I don't think we have any contemporary evidence of what George looked like), or that Edward or maybe George too were blond while Richard was dark (both Edward and Richard seemed to have medium brown hair) or that Edward and Richard looked nothing alike. I actually think there is quite a resemblance between the two brothers mostly in chin and face shape, which probably would've been obvious before Edward had gained weight and his face shape got much fuller.

On September 17th 1420 the town of Melun in France surrenders to the siege of England's Henry V and his Burgundian allies.
The siege had rumbled on since June and had been fairly dramatic at times, with close combat taking place literally beneath the walls as the besiegers and the garrison dug mines and countermines in an attempt to bring the siege to an end, much like the seige at St Andrews. However, present in the English army was none other than King James I of Scotland.
James had been a prisoner in England since 1406, when he had been captured while fleeing Scotland for France. He had been only about twelve years old at the time, and thus he had to an extent grown up in and around the English court. This not only heavily influenced his perception of his rights as king - something that would have serious and far-reaching consequences on his eventual return to Scotland - but also allowed him to developwwhat seems to have been a rather friendly relationship with Henry V. Since Henry's victory at Agincourt in 1415, the English king had been on the verge of enforcing a humiliating peace deal on the French.
To counter this, the beleaguered French administration fell back on their traditional diplomatic policy of encouraging the Scots to make war on England's northern border in the hopes of limiting the scope of English military activities on the Continent. The Scottish response to French desperation was even more enthusiastic and ambitious than ever before, thanks in part to the desire of Archibald, 4th earl of Douglas, to assert himself as a major player on the international stage. Douglas was able to revive an early proposal to dispatch an entire Scottish army - 5,000-6,000 strong, making it the largest Scottish army to serve overseas in the medieval period - to France, to be paid for by the French crown.
James was thus brought to France in 1420 to be Henry's trump card against the Scots serving on the Continent. Given what we can tell about James's relationship with Henry, he may not have been entirely unwilling to assume this role. Melun was one of several targets on that year's campaign. Ultimately, as their supplies began to run out, the garrison at Melun was forced to surrender. While the French members of the garrison were allowed to surrender as prisoners of the English king the twenty Scots who had been assisting in the defence of the town were all hanged as traitors. Ostensibly this was justified by the fact they had continued to fight despite knowing that their king was present in the besieging army, but in reality it served as a threat to all other Scots in French service. This illustrates a fascinating aspect of the Scottish experience of fighting in France in the period 1419-1424; a Scot fighting in France might well see his king’s banner flying on the opposite side!
Remarkably, this does not seem to have deterred a great many Scots from fighting for the French during this period, with an ‘army of Scotland’ having been dispatched to France in 1419 and another arriving in 1424. Certainly it illustrates a willingness to act independently of the king’s apparent wishes – so long as doing so could be presented as acting in the kingdom’s best interests – on the parts of the families who played a leading role in raising these forces, particularly the Albany Stewarts and the Black Douglases. Joint command of the ‘army of Scotland’ sent to France in 1419 was given to John Stewart, earl of Buchan and second son of the Duke of Albany, and Archibald Douglas, earl of Wigtown and son of the fourth earl of Douglas, who had been appointed earl of Wigtown in that year with the specific intention of giving him equal status with Buchan. Buchan was rewarded for his service to the French crown by his appointment as Constable of France, making him the second most important military officer in the kingdom after the king - the first non-Frenchman in history to hold the post.
Similarly, Wigtown's father - Archibald, 4th earl of Douglas - secured the Duchy of Touraine for himself in return for his military support of the French crown in 1424, making him both the first non-royal and the first foreigner to be made a duke in French history. Surely, this must also have contributed to King James’ desire to ruthlessly re-assert his own personal authority on his return to his kingdom in 1424 and his suspicions of these families in particular, hence his notable attempts to undermine – and in the case of the Albany Stewarts utterly destroy – their power bases.

So I've been thinking.
I think I might temporarily pause my Traumatized Pastra AU for my new au.
Introducing:
A random ass Doai AU I've had for a while now and am currently turning into a fic!(Hopefully it will be on Ao3 soon) It's just chock full o' headcanons! Buckle in because this gonna be a long ass post and I rant about things a LOT
Main little headcanons for the pairs.
◇ Clyde and Winfrey are 100% gay and no one can tell me otherwise.
◇ Simon is like an owner to The Flock, Simon is also teaching The Flock how to actually speak.
◇ Klaus is slightly abusive towards Jack, but he is desperately trying to fix it with Jack's help.
◇ Kause and Jack never actually stay in the same spot, but they will return to an area multiple times.
◇ Because Klause and Jack never stay in one place, they'll sometimes wander into Clyde and Winfrey's territory, because of this, both Clyde and Winfrey will hide if they catch even the slightest smell of their scent.
◇ Klaus and Jack have very impulsive personalities and will often play cruel pranks that often end up in an injury of some kind, this is why Clyde and Winfrey are afraid of them.
◇ The Flock can sometimes be overprotective of Simon, especially if Simon is about to go into hibernation.
◇ Simon will regularly check up on Clyde and Winfrey because I said so.
◇ Winfrey is helping to uncorupt Clyde, and in return Clyde is helping him control his thoughts.
Hibernation periods.
◇ Clyde hibernates between August 3rd and October 31st, while Winfrey hibernates between Febuary 1st and June 4th.
◇ The Flock doesn't hibernate, being a bird and all. Simon hibernates through spring.
◇ Both Jack and Klaus hibernate through the last half of winter and the first half of spring.
Individual Headcanons
.•° Winfrey °•.
◇ Winfrey can actually play the violin, and he's good at it too.
◇ He's constantly second guessing weather it was a good idea to become complete, but Clyde helps him see it as a good thing.
◇ He's overprotective over Clyde despite Clyde telling him that he can handle himself, it's just the size difference really-
◇ Him and Clyde are VERY close. V e r y
.•° Clyde °•.
◇ Clyde is actually kind of insane, and with Wibfrey helping to uncorupt his mind, he's becoming even more so.
◇ If Clyde is harmed enough, Winfrey will wake up from his hibernation and go save him, and vice-versa. They will then go into a month long hibernation together.
◇ Like Winfrey, Clyde can hear the voices of everyone he's consumed, but has learned to tune it out.
◇ He is adept at playing the piano.
.•° Simon °•.
◇ Simon is practically The Flock's owner because of how feral The Flock is.
◇ He won't force his ideology of not consuming humans, he just doesn't want the others to do it when he's around.
◇ He celebrates human holidays, and even invites the other veldigun over to celebrate with him and The Flock.
.•° The Flock °•.
◇ The Flock will attack anyone and anything that gets close to Simon when he's injured, sick, ect.
◇ Since they haven't progressed past the void stage, they're kind of like an octopus, they can fit through tiny spaces.
.•° Jack °•.
◇ Jack rarely talks, only ever talking to Klaus.
◇ He'll do anything Jack tells him to, even if he doesn't want to.
◇ He hunts when Klaus is asleep because he's always used to help Klaus hunt.
◇ He doesn't actually need to eat as much as you'd expect.
.•° Klaus °•.
◇ Klaus is actively trying to fix his abusive behavior towards Jack
◇ Klaus and Jack get into constant prank wars.
◇ He loves messing with Clyde and Winfrey, mostly Clyde though.
Veldigun Headcanons.
◇ Veldigun can actually speak many different languages, but like humans they have to learn it.
◇ They know jackshit about Six, the only thing they know is that they'll show up in their dreams before an event in their lives. (Hibernation and stuff)
◇ They never go into large human towns or cities, they just wait for prey to come to them, or they'll try to lead them away.
Okay I'm done ranting now- I may or may not turn this into a separate ask blog idk man- but I do know that I've kinda lost motivation for my Traumatized Pastra AU-

There’s even rumors of the appearance of a famous but reclusive ghost hunter—but you’ll have to come and find out for yourself!

May 18: It’s time to shine for one of Caos Tattoos very own: Abril Valdivia!  The Tattoo Apprentice will be having a flash sale of her own designs for a discounted price.  Come support a local up-and-coming artist!  You can still make appointments and receive flash from the resident tattoo artists there. May 25: Quilpué Zoo invites friends and family to meet their new friend, Otto the Octopus!  Otto is a smart, clever, playful, and silly boy.  He loves squirting water at the Quilpué Zoo workers; he loves solving puzzles; and he loves being handled by the zoo employees!  From 10 AM - 2 PM, the event (¡Bienvenido A Casa, Otto¡) will allow kids to see Otto solve puzzles and do tricks; they’ll see a feeding session; and they’ll also learn about octopuses and their habitats!

Pics: Bert Terhune related notes.
1. Mary Virginia Haws, Bert's mom was a writer of novels, travelogues, memoirs, domestic manuals, etiquette booklets & cookbooks.
2. Cover of 1 of her house 'running' books.
3. Who doesn't recognize a Lassie poster? This being for 1 of her many movies.
4 & 5. Covers of some of Bert's many works.
6. At least 1 of Bert's short stories focused on the danger that spies & assassins posed to General George Washington.
7. Poster for the "Ogre" TV movie, with a great tagline!
8. Bust of Cleisthenes, the Father of Athenian democracy.
9. Bust of Alexander Pope, the English poet, translator & satirist on society & politics.
10. John Dryden painting, an earlier English poet, literary critic, translator, satirist & playwright.
Notes (on yesterday's post):
1. The Adventurers Club of NY was a private men's club founded in 1912 by one A. Hoffman.
Its main functions were monthly dinners & a weekly lunch.
Their main rule was that "No one talks about Fight Club!"
There's complete silence on most of their activities.
Yet, for a secretive group, they certainly went out of their way to announce their events.
First, they published The Adventurer, a monthly newsletter that ran until 1960!
Then they had a weekly radio show, the Gold Seat Associates, where club members spoke of the most exciting moment of their lives.
The Adventurers Club finally faded out during the 1970s.
2. Lassie is the star of an American TV series (1954 to 1973) & several movies.
'She' (actually male dogs were used!) is a smart & fearless collie living in a Virginia farm with her companions - human or otherwise.
Later in the show, Lassie worked with forest rangers - out in the wilderness!
There's also an animated series that brought Lassie's heroic acts into the 2000s.
Lassie's latest film came out in 2022...
3. Mary V. Haws wrote several novels set in the southern states before the Civil War, which began in 1861.
(But, this was actually only after many decades of rising tensions - mostly on the subject of slavery.
It only ended after 4 years & some 610,000+ deaths!!)
Haws completed her last book at the age of 88 - while she was quite blind!
4. Other books by Bert Terhune are: "World's Great Events", "Famous American Indians", "Wonder Woman in History", "Around the World in 30 Days" & "Superwomen."
5. Scribblers are people who write for hire or as a hobby. Usually, scribblers worked for newspapers & magazines.
It's just that readers don't actually like their articles!
6. The American Revolution lasted from 1775 to 1783. Its causes were British taxes, the Boston Massacre & the Intolerable Acts.
Only 45% of colonists supported this war - as it forced neighbors against each other!
In Ben Franklin's case, it permanently tore his family apart...
7. Don't know why Lovecraft equates the famous folk he mentioned with ogres - except for Bonaparte, maybe.
Ogres are hideous looking, human eating giants from fairy tales & folk- lore.
It's no better in slang, as it describes "a person who's monstrously ugly, cruel or barbarous."
(Shrek they are not!)
Ogre comes to us thru France. But, it's actually from Etruscan (ancient north Italian nation & language) "Orcus", God of the Dead & punisher of oath- breakers.
8. "Where freedom 1st arose..."
A. This would be ancient Athens, in Greece on 508 BC. That's when Cleisthenes 1st set up a democratic government there.
(But, Howard could be referring to the American Revolution again.)
B. In that case, Congress did approve in becoming independent on July 2nd, 1776, thru the Lee Resolution.
We now celebrate when our politicians started signing the official Declaration of Independence, on July the 4th.
But, it took some time before all of the congressmen actually did so...
England didn't really 'recognize' our victory until the Paris Treaty of 1783!
Even then, Britain tried to 'reacquire' its 13 colonies during the War of 1812...
9. HPL seemed aware of his writing limits.
His evoking of imagery & emotion rested upon his skill at following strict poetic structures & his own aesthetic taste.
Lovecraft thought it more important to be formally correct, rather than to be creatively interesting.
10. As to Howard's personal writing style, it's actually his own copying of the forms of A. Pope & J. Dryden.
Pope was 1 of the most prominent writers of the 1700s.
Dryden was the 1st Poet Laureate of England & is chiefly responsible for introducing heroic couplets & the triplet into English poetic structures...
END.

I made a longwinded rant on another creators post about ‘what will Christians do when they have no one to persecute ?’ It should be right after this posting on my site.
But, damn, I forgot some additional historical Christian v Christian sectarian violence
Such as…
When the papacy joined with the French speaking Viking Catholics (see next blog) Rome took the opportunity to sever ties in 1054 with the eastern branch of Catholicism & the eastern Roman Emperor both based in Constantinople.
At the same time the papacy decided it was no longer under the authority the western Roman Emperor who was based in Frankfurt.
Of course Catholic Europe then had two centuries of warfare to determine the answer to the burning question whether the Roman Emperor appointed the head of the Church or whether the Pope was elected by the Cardinals.
Plus
In addition to the Protestant Separatist Churches vs Catholic loyalist Church during the Reformation, the English Crown resumed the Part 1 G vs G issue by making the Crown the head of the Church and appointed of Archbishops.
And I forgot
If one is Evangelical or Catholic in the USA one understands that Evangelicals don’t consider Catholics to be Christians.
MTG has already fired the opening shot in that coming conflict:
Despite their disdain of Satanic Catholicism, the Evangelical Protestant sects base their vernacular language Bibles on the obviously bad translation including obviously deliberate changes that is the Catholic’s Latin Vulgate translation. Instead of basing vernacular bibles directly on the older Greek language Scriptures used by the Eastetn Orthodox Christian Churches.
But that would lead to yet another war.
Here’s one obvious change you can research when you are bored. Google ‘Mathew 25 46 Greek Koine to English’. Then compare that translation into English with any English language Catholic or Protestant Bible.
‘Eternal Damnation’ or an ‘Age of Correction’
Then see if you can find ANY Old Testament prophet or New Testament apostle who ever discusses ‘Eternal Damnation’
Can’t criticize. The Supreme Being didn’t mention Eternal Damnation either when expelling Adam & Eve, when drowning the world, when presenting the 10 Commandments.
Nor did any Church Father of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Centuries. Not intill Jerome’s Latin paraphrasing version.
Christian’s have aditopnal myriad of beliefs which are without Scriptural basis. But has NEVER stopped Christian’s persecuting each other or anyone they felt weren’t touting and acting out the official dogmatic Belief doctrines
Today their 150+ Christian denominations in the US. Each with its own dogmatic Belief doctrines.

Frank Hurley “Photoshops”
Tumblr media
Colourized by  u/BaptistePierre
Tumblr media
Call Number: PIC FH 10882 LOC H8/14
Oct. 2, 1917
I sent in my resignation this morning and await the result of igniting the fuse. It is disheartening, after striving to secure the impossible and running all hazards to meet with little encouragement.
Oct. 6, 1917
I am sending in 150 negatives this week. Headquarters have given me permission to make six combination enlargements in the exhibition! So I withdrew my resignation. They must at least appreciate my efforts, as they were dead against this being done. However, it will be no delusion on the public as they will be distinctly titled, setting forth the number of negatives used, etc….
Frank Hurley diary

Oct 12 1917 Frank Hurley takes this photo, AWM E01202, of a  First Aid Post near Zonnebeke Railway Station.
Australian infantry wounded at a First Aid Post near Zonnebeke Railway Station. There are two conflicting sets of identification supplied for this image. Identified: Private A W Moss, 9th FAB (1); Private V E Reid, 10th FAB (2); 2nd Corporal P Pratt, 10th FAB, or Staff Sergeant F W Gray 9th FAB (3); Private C R Costain 10th FAB or Private J Cooke, 9th FAB (4). The pillbox (left) is identified as 'Jury'. This forms part of two Hurley composite images held at E01202A and E01202B.
Other versions:

This original hand-finished print is based on a photograph taken by the Official Photographer Frank Hurley (E01202); a heavy and foreboding sky and artillery shell bursts have been added to Hurley's original negative. This photograph was owned by Father Cecil Lonergan, a Catholic priest, who served as a Chaplain in the 4th Infantry Brigade in France and Belgium during the First World War. It is possible that Father Lonergan commissioned this work as a commemoration for a friend and fellow priest, Father Michael Bergin, an Irishman who was killed in action on 12 October 1917, the date Hurley's photograph (E01202) was taken. Father Bergin, a schoolteacher at Holy Family College in Cairo, attested on the Gallipoli Peninsula and who served as a chaplain with the 5th Light Horse Regiment, was with the 51st Battalion when he was killed at Passchendaele, not far from where this photograph was taken. Father Bergin was buried in the Reninghelst Churchyard Cemetery on 14 October 1917 by his friend Father Lonergan. Father Bergin was posthumously awarded the Military Cross 'for distinguished service in the field'. This hand-finished work, by an unknown artist, has some similarities to a number of composite photographs made by Frank Hurley and also based on the same original image (E01202). However, we do not believe Hurley was responsible for this particular work. See also E01202A and B for versions of the Hurley composite photographs.

Last Lines Tag
Tagged by the awesome and crazy talented @badastronaut277
Rules: Write the latest line from each of your wips (or post where you last left off in your art) and tag as many people as there are wips you are working on.
First of all, I'm not a writer. Second of all, I, unlike many other artists, have the bad habit of starting a piece and then keeping in purgatory for years until I decide I need to finish it or else.
Here's my WIPs gallery:
I. Sketched my current Fallout 4 character, new OC named Valerie! I'm playing Sim Settlements 2 with her and ignoring most main quests from the game :D this is one is very recent - from the last week
Tumblr media
II. Still working on this Hancock piece 84 years later, I think we're finally getting somehwere ??? Spent ages doing the couch lol
Tumblr media
III. Another Hancock piece I started ages ago and hated, I don't hate it anymore but it's still stuck in purgatory
Tumblr media
IV. Started doing this for my fallout OC Bedelia and her journey from pre-war lawyer, to fresh out of the vault, to General of the Minutemen, and there will be a 4th one of her post-main quest. This piece started from how her hair changes colors, from black during pre-war, to white with black roots thanks to being in cryo when emerging from the vault, to dying it dark blue as the General and the final one would be kind of a dark purple hair dye. This is also stuck in purgatory
Tumblr media
V. This is re-draw of a scene from a movie that I really liked (Bright Star) but with Bedelia and Hancock. Stuck in purgatory cause there's something bugging me off about it but I can't figure out what, also all my tries to color this destroyed me
Tumblr media
VI. Unfinished sketches of my ghoul OC Mauve (these are basically redrawings of scenes from the movie The Dressmaker - she's just ghoulified Kate Winslet from the movie at this point lol)
Tumblr media
VII. Unifinished drawing of a group of femme fatale ghoulettes called The Vixens, this idea is a collaboration with one of my best friends irl, stuck in purgatory weee
Tumblr media
VIII. This was a piece I started for Yeehawgust for the Meowdy prompt, never got to finish it
Tumblr media
IX. Unfinished drawing of a burned car I saw where I live + mashed with Fallout 76 scenery, stuck in purgatory too
Tumblr media
sheesh that's a whole bunch of WIPs :( most of them were started last year or 2 years ago and I never had time to finish them
I'll tag @fuzzyizmit, @atomitron, @pumpkinov, @boarix, @khazrablood, @digonshaikha, @purkinje-effect, @fanthings
as usual, don't feel obligated to do this! if you don't wanna be tagged send me a DM and I'll remove it

The Neon Glow
The struggle with cyberpunk is that it's supposed to be punk, but it's also all too real. The days of Neuromancer and Johnny Mnemonic are behind us. The idea of the sci-fi corporate supercity, this neon-limned sprawl of concrete, vice, and pollution no longer seems like a frighteningly possible dystopia, but like an exaggerated reality. At its inception, cyberpunk existed in a liminal state between the primary and secondary worlds. These stories were ostensibly set on a futuristic Earth, but there was a sense that it was an alternate future, that these worlds were a warning about something that only had the slimmest possibility of really happening. They read like secondary worlds in the same way that Middle Earth reads as a secondary world: familiar in its bones, in its soul, but not in its details. The fact that that gap is closing, that we're watching those prophecies unfold, is at the heart of the current generation of post-cyberpunk fiction. Gibson's Agency, Stephenson's Termination Shock. Matrix: Resurrections. These stories deal not only with the dread of capitalism's brutal advance, but also (in my opinion) with the writers' mixed feelings over having predicted it, over creating a vision and aesthetic so powerful that our world is actually changing--purposefully--to match it. Just look at the MetaVerse. A Stephenson invention, now marketed as a reality, like that's supposed to be exciting.
This is a problem for me, because I love writing cyberpunk. I stumbled onto The Matrix in middle school, but it didn't sink its teeth in until I came across Shadowrun 4th Edition at Borders. Here was a world that felt lived in, in much the same way that the original Star Wars must've wowed people in the 70's. Arguably, Star Wars and cyberpunk both fit into the classic definition of the latter: high tech, low life. Luke is a farmer; Han's a drug trafficker. And while Star Wars is and will remain my all-time favorite, the cyberpunk genre brought an edge with it, something that grabbed hold of me, hit the dopamine button in my brain: the neon glow. Holograms and flickering advertisements in a rainy night. Smog dyeing the sunset crimson and purple. LEDs glowing from every nook and cranny.
And now, your average gamer's battlestation looks like something out of Bladerunner. And part of me rebels against that: do we not realize that we're losing? We're a couple short steps away from corporate citizenship, for god's sake.
That sense of doubt, that itch, pokes at me when I'm writing and find myself describing more of the same. It made me feel sick watching Edgerunners. The idea of losing your family to random violence because you don't make enough for health insurance isn't fiction--so why is this show dressing it up like it is? Like that's just as outlandish as a thousand-foot holo ad, a street tough with mantis blades in her arms? Did the showrunners not know what they were doing, somehow? Were they just jumping into this genre because they read Neuromancer once, thought it was such a wacky idea?
But then--oh-so-late to the party--I started playing 2077. I rebelled against it at first, felt the same itch, the same existential dread. But then the story revved into overdrive, and all at once, I realized: this here, it's the classic example of tropes done right. The world might be forty years old, but it's flawlessly realized. And, more than that, it is aware of the genre it exists in, of the evolution. There's something about the game that makes me want to be V, to live in a world where you have to carry an SMG to leave the apartment. To live loud. Even a month ago, I would've said it's the feeling of agency, the idea that, in a world of violent conflict, each person is more able to make a large-scale impact. But I don't think that's it, not really. Night City crushes you, makes even the most outrageous victories seem short-lived, insignificant blips against the weight of the world.
The moments that shine out aren't the big ones, they're the small ones. Seeing Mama Welles at the wake. A visit from a stray cat. Going to the ripperdoc and seeing the option to change appearance, because in that world, it's just that easy, and all of a sudden, I can be seeing a face I like in the mirror.
And here's the crazy thing: part of this reality we've stumbled into, this pseudo-cyberpunk corporatocracy, is the fact that's it's almost that easy to switch bodies here, too. We're getting there. There is beauty in all things, even the dark ones. There is beauty, too, in the impetuous, borderline-nihilism of an edgerunner, in the willigness to engage in hopeless rebellion. And there is a beauty in neon lights.
The meaning of the word punk hasn't changed, never will, but its expression has. In the 80's, it meant drinking and smoking because Mom and Dad said not to. Now, what gives me hope is going to punk shows in underground venues and seeing drug-free youth graffitied across the PA. It's realizing that rebellion changes as society changes. That, even though we might live in a dystopia, that dystopia will never choke out the beauty of our reality. So, I'm keeping the mirrored shades; I'm switching the LED strips back on; and I'm going to keep writing about cities bathed in the neon glow.
