Billy Dee Williams, known in such works as “Lady Sings The Blues” “Mahogany” and four “Star Wars” films playing Lando Calrissian, was born in New York city, NY on this date April 6, 1937.

He was an artist before his acting career took off, having studied art at New York’s High School of Music and Art and at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Design.

Billy Dee Williams has had gallery showings where his works have sold for tens of thousands of dollars, and his paintings have been displayed in the National Portrait Gallery, The Schomburg Center, and The Smithsonian Institution.
