It’s about this friendly desert community that’s basically a surveillance state. There are bimonthly town disasters, and the main character has died 8 times, and everything’s an absolute mess, but they’re a community. There are good things. They’re together.

In specific, I want to talk a bit about episode 202 — The Day After the Day. In this episode, it’s just been Valentine’s Day, which in true Night Vale fashion is actually this horrific event with death and blood. And after this day, they’re not okay, obviously they’re not okay, but some people go for a picnic. And they talk. And it’s not alright, but it’s fine.

Todo empezó con una mirada juguetona durante las clases de pintura, unas semanas después una pequeña sonrisa cuando notaste la mancha de pintura en la nariz de Steve.

Steve era demasiado tímido para hablarte, y tú habías ignorado todas las veces en las que Bucky intentó coquetearte.

Comenzabas a plantearte el hablarle a Steve e invitarlo a comer un helado… aunque lo que menos querías era que su amigo también se incluyera en el plan, necesitabas que él estuviera solo.

Decidiste que hoy sería el día, pero primero, habías trazado un plan, una de tus amigas iba a entretener a Barnes, así tú podrías hablar con Steve, sería al finalizar la clase, aunque también le ibas a deber una ida a la cafetería, sin contar que tuviste que aguantarla durante diez minutos riéndose por lo que le pediste.

—Es hermosa —Steve dijo parándose atrás de ti.

—¿Disculpa? —te volteaste para quedar frente a él, tal vez lo que más te gustaba eran sus hermosos ojos azules.

—No tú, tu pintura, quiero decir tú también —Steve ahora sonaba confundido, ni siquiera estaba seguro de lo que quería decir.

—Gracias, Steve.

—Ehm T/N…

Un momento, ¿él sabía tu nombre? Estabas tan emocionada que dejaste de escuchar lo que te estaba diciendo, no eras invisible para él.

—… Bueno, por tu silencio, supongo que es un no —Steve dijo decepcionado.

—¿Perdón? No te escuché —querías golpearte, no le habías puesto atención.

—Quisierasiralcineconmigo —Steve repitió más nervioso y poniéndose rojo.

—¿El sábado te parece bien?

—Claro, paso por ti a las seis.

El día de la cita, le robaste un beso a Steve.

—¿Quieres ir a la Expo Stark? Bucky quiere que vayamos en una cita doble.

Aceptaste, aunque fue algo incómodo, sobre todo porque la cita de Bucky no se callaba y tampoco dejaba de repetir lo maravillo e increíble que Barnes era, estabas a punto de meterle la bolsa de palomitas a la boca, si con eso conseguías que se callara.

1945

El tiempo en el que Steve estuvo en la guerra fue insoportable, no se veían, aunque cada semana sin falta te llegaba una carta de él.

Lo único que deseabas era que todo eso terminara para volver a estar con él.

Hasta que el fatídico día llegó, esa mañana despertaste con una extraña sensación. En cuanto abriste la puerta, sabías lo que significaba en cuanto viste a esa mujer parada ahí, ni siquiera escuchaste lo que ella te decía, sabías lo que había ocurrido.

Se suponía que al terminar la guerra, Steve y tú se casarían, ya estaba todo listo, lo único que él tenía que hacer era regresar a casa.

Si hubiera alguna manera…

—¿Estás seguro de esto? —Bucky le preguntó a Steve.

—Tengo una promesa que cumplir, no quiero ni imaginarme lo mal que la ha estado pasando —Steve contestó, simplemente no podía dejar de pensar en lo mismo, por más que había buscado, no encontró información, no era posible que te hubieras esfumado, estaba seguro de lo que vivió, no obstante, hasta que hizo el viaje en el tiempo junto a los demás fue cuando comprendió todo.

—Salúdala de mi parte, no vayas a olvidar tu discurso en el gran día.

—No soy tan idiota como tú.

Frunciste el ceño molesta, era la décima vez que intentabas leer la receta y siempre había una interrupción diferente. Sin embargo cuando abriste la puerta, dejaste caer el recipiente que llevabas en mano.

—¿S-Steve? —temías que tus sentidos te estuviesen engañando.

—Te prometí que volvería —Steve dijo a la vez que recogía el recipiente.

—Pero…

—No podía fallarte, cariño —Steve tomó tu mano, dejando el recipiente en la mesita de al lado de la puerta.

—Todo estaba listo…

—Solo faltaba yo, ¿verdad? Aquí estoy, todo estará bien, te lo prometo.

"Hey bro!" Ollie greeted as he wandered into Monty's dorm. Unlike most times, it was not morning. He'd just finished his last class for the day and got some food from the local gas station (it was terrible and he preferred it to the food at the school's cafeteria) and thought he'd bring some to Monty to share. "Do you want some of this sushi? We better eat it while it's not super rank…" He asked, looking around towards where Monty was sitting at his desk. Though the moment his eyes landed on him he knew almost immediately that something was not right. He'd never believed Monty was good at hiding his bad moods, frankly he didn't really try, instead wearing it around himself like a cloak. This felt like one of those times. "Hey, what happened last night, dude?" He asked with a laugh, heading over towards Monty, leaning against his desk, to look down at his face, "you know my valentine was the one about meeting up later in the bathroom, right?" He thought it'd been pretty obvious. Ollie's dark eyes moved over Monty's face, furrowing his eyebrows a little bit, "… did something happen?"

Ingredients:

Brownie Layer:

2 large eggs

1 cup granulated sugar

½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

1 tablespoon red gel food coloring (Wilton no-taste recommended)

¾ cups all-purpose flour

¼ cup cocoa powder

Pinch of salt

Cheesecake Filling:

8 ounce cream cheese, softened

¼ cup granulated sugar

½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 large egg

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and line an 8x8-inch pan with parchment paper.

Brownie Layer: Whisk eggs, sugar, and vanilla together until well combined. Whisk in melted butter and food coloring. Finally, whisk in flour, cocoa powder, and salt until well combined. Spread all but about 3 tablespoons into the prepared baking pan.

Cheesecake Filling: In a separate bowl, beat together the filling ingredients until well combined.

Pour the cheesecake filling over the brownie batter in the baking pan. Dot with remaining brownie batter, and swirl with a butter knife.

Bake in the center of the oven for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.

Remove from oven and let cool completely before slicing and serving.
