... as in, the last one. The final chapter. I actually finished Close your eyes! I always said I would never abandon this story, and that I would give Lu her happy ending, but with how long I took to update, I get that it was hard to believe at times 😅 But here we are!

When I started this in August 2020, I did definitely not anticipate what it would turn into. I thought I'd write my first fanfic, maybe 10 chapters or so, about Lu and Val's tragic love story. It ended up being 42 chapters, 190,652 words, with nine POVs and 1,011 days from when I posted the first chapter to today.

The final chapter takes place at Nadia and Guzman's wedding. As @time-is-a-loaded-gun pointed out, that makes for a nice bookend ending. If you remember, in the first chapter Nadia and Guzman take a high, distraught Lu back to their house to take care of her. That was a flashforward, the plot of the story started about half a year before this. That means that roughly two years passed for the characters, one-and-a-half years from that awful night for Lu to the wedding where the story ends. Lu has grown so much in that time, and so have I in the two years and nine months I spent writing this.

THANK YOU for being on this journey with me. I know interaction has dropped off, but if you have followed along, read and commented- I appreciate it so much. Especially to my fellow Lu-Valerio shippers. I know the change was rough, but they are still very important in each other's lives.

I would love to hear your thoughts on how it all ended. And I realize this is a wordy post - I am just really emotional right now.

Here's a short snippet of the final Close your eyes chapter:

When Rosalía's cover of "All I want" started playing, Rebe almost dropped her glass. She frantically looked around for Lu – who appeared by her side and pulled her to the center of the dance floor. With her arms on Lu's shoulders and Lu's arms around her waist, the rest of the party faded away.

Rebe leaned forward so her mouth was by Lu's ear. "I was so impressed with you that night. How you'd dragged me to that club, up the stairs, and all while managing to keep it a secret we'd be seeing fucking Rosalía…"

Lu raised her eyebrows. "I'm an impressive girl."

Her tone had been joking, but Rebe didn't laugh. She looked into Lu's eyes, counted the little flecks of gold that she had come to memorize and ran her fingers along the nape of Lu's neck. She didn't have to put any pressure to get Lu to take a step closer to her.

When their lips touched, Rebe's eyes fluttered shut. She was back on that rooftop terrace, under the stars, Lu's body pressed against hers in the crowd and Rosalía's voice in her ear. Her heart had beaten out of her chest that night. She'd wanted the feeling of Lu's lips on hers to last forever. And now she got to experience it every day.

Thoughts on Élite

I’ve seen the promo photos/stills and I think that something might happen between Valerio and Rebeka. I’ve shipped them since season 2, so a possible hookup-turned-into-something-more could be healthy for both of them.

Élite Season 4 Review

as an og fan of élite who’s been binging every single season on the day it came out, i watched the fourth season yesterday. here’s my thoughts. obviously includes spoilers for both the new season and some short stories.

the short stories of carmuel and caye/rebe/guzman were the best for me.

the new characters were… uh… how do i put this nicely

ari is the new lu. but less interesting. hated her at first, felt kinda sorry for her at the end though.

mencía is a cardboard copy of miss marina. 🙄

idk how to feel about their dad?? uhhh

i was really hyped for phillipe’s character (idk how to spell it i’m sorry lmao) but man what a letdown.

ya know what… i really liked cayetana this season! i felt neutral about her before but i rlly liked her this season. wish she’d had more screen time.

THEY BUILT UP GUZNADIA FOR THREE SEASONS ONLY FOR THEM TO BREAK UP WITHIN THREE EPISODES AND HAVE GUZMÁN GO AFTER A DIFFERENT CHICK?? W H A T

i liked ander back in season 1… but his character just becomes less and less likeable over the seasons. fight me.

okay but what the fuck was up with all the fucked up relationships this season?? omander. carmuel. guznadia. samu and guzmán. samu and rebe’s friendship, which come on, could’ve gone back to the way it was back in s2.

i cannot stress this enough: FUCK LOVE TRIANGLES. for me it worked in season 1 with carla/polo/christian because they actually seemed to be into polyamory and it actually benefited the fucking plotline around covering up marina’s murder. but that was it. AND THEY HAVE ONE OR TWO EVERY SEASON. it’s exhausting. jesus.

HEY BY THE WAY… what happened to la inspectora from the first three seasons? ma’am?? where you at?? the kids fucked up again and someone nearly died. then someone actually died.

the mystery this season was so fucking dull. like i forgot what was even going on kinda dull. the interrogation scenes were not nearly as compelling as in the previous seasons, they didn’t give you chills, didn’t make you wonder what the hell happened.

you don’t even need a murder mystery to make it interesting. season 2 was my favorite season, and there was no murder mystery — samuel had gone missing. his disappearance and the interrogation scenes were interesting, no one saw the guzmán teamup coming or his relationship with carla. it was exciting and thrilling and this season did not have that even a little bit.

solid plot twist. i’ll give them that. i did not really see that whole armando storyline coming, although i did figure out he had something to do w it because they kept him around for so long.

at the end after guzmán shot that mf in the back i was like NO DONT LEAVE THE BODY?? and then i saw he and samu and someone else i think (i don’t even remember man) dropped his body into the lake. i liked that, reminded me of the trophy.

the fuck is up with the fasion getting more and more extra this season? compare the party outfits from season 1 to the ones we have now. a little extra is good, but now they’re just plain ugly. anyway s1 and s2 fashion >>>

that one scene in the restaurant where guzmán spoke of marina and the way she was as a person and a daughter… that was so well written. i feel like so many people (the writers included) forgot about marina bc she was the first to die and only appeared in season 1, but still. like this teenage boy lost his sister (and so much more) in such a short span of time. i’m glad they at least acknowledged it.

dude… obviously i know that the show isn’t realistic at all but these kids have been through so much. guzmán has been through the worst shit. losing his little sister to murder and then his best friend as well? seeing him die in his fucking arms? and the other kids? they’re still teenagers man. it is beyond wild to think that they’d be as carefree as they were displayed to be this season.

obviously that joke rebe made in the short story about not being able to take any more interrogations and murders and shit was, well, a joke, and it was delivered well, but if you think about it… come ON. they’ve been through hell and back. the show has never been just light-hearted, it has dealt with several serious issues and deaths and murders and things like that. these kids are broken. why couldn’t they have shown more of that? or at least acknowledged it a little? have someone go to fucking therapy??

i thought overall the whole season was underwhelming. kinda boring.

before the season came out, someone said that they didn’t think the show could thrive without carla, lu, nadia, valerio, polo… and i agree now.

i feel like this season had such a different vibe than the previous seasons. not in a good way.

i miss season 1 and 2 man. those seasons had the best mystery, the best vibe, the best cast. i don’t just miss carla, lu, polo, valerio, nadia… i miss christian and nano as well.

even the soundtracks of the previous seasons were better. i’m sorry to sound this negative in the whole review but man i waited so long for the new season only to be disappointed.

Some my thoughts and speculation about Cayetana and Philippe in Elite s4 and about Cayetana's arc for @alysenikole13 My first intention was to answer in comments, but, it seems, I have too much thoughts.

1) If google translated dont lies, title of article, I read, was Georgina and Pol's statement that Elite characters dont know that healthy relationship is. (Absolutely agree.) So it seems, there are very few chances on happy relationship for all characters, but only for Cayetana and Philippe. But also such context means, definition "toxic" about Caye and Philippe can be considered very widely. Guznadia was beginning as toxic thing where rich guy tried to seduce poor muslim girl, because his current girlfriend wanted it. Guzman and Nadia feelings for each other feel nice and sweet, but also they never were couple in s1-3, and it was not only because Guzman and Lu, but because Nadia too. So in some way Guznadia can be considered as toxic relationship. Personally I love Polo/Caye relationship, but also it was doomed since beginning, because Marina's murder and because they both were fucked up persons. But also it's very important part of their arcs and character development. Polo from s1 would never find REAL Caye interesting and worth respect (he treated Christian like sex toy), but Polo from s2 did, for Caye, it seems, it was first time, when somebody said her, that REAL Cayetana is more interesting, than that fake glamour personality she created. With Polo, and then with Polo and Valerio, she was learning to be who she really is and be happy with it, even if other people dont like her. Yes, she was not fully succesful in it (hello, those messages) and their happines was short-lived and built on other people's pain, but it gave her some important life expirience. So "toxic relationship" can be various, there many options and interpretations of this termin.

2) Pol said their relationship will be dark, but also with some very beautiful moments. Georgina said, Cayetana left behind part of her personality, that was motivated by lack of confidence and now Caye wants to make things she likes (fashion desingn). Speaking about "left behind part", it seems, she means events in Short Stories. In first episode of Guzman Caye Rebe special Cayetana told that she began to lie, because it made her to feel stronger, and in final of special she said "no more lies". It looks, like showranners plan some positive character development for her, and I think, maybe Philipippe will be sort of temptation for her. Another rich guy who can help her with realization of her dream etc. In special we saw, Caye thought about becoming drug diller, when she was on drugs, and Rebe was ok with idea her mother can sell still some drugs to buy them better future. It's realistic. Bad habits dont die fast. Maybe it's that Caye's inner conflict in s4 will be. Maybe I wrong.

3) My personal care now is fact that Pol Granch is singer, not actor, so I have doubts about his acting. I know, everyone need to begin somewhere, and it's unfair to compare him with somebody who has long filmography. After all, it's not fucking Shakespeare, just show about teenangers, in s1, I remember, I thought, half of cast was not really good in acting, so I hope Pol did his best and other people were nice with him and were helping him doing his job. But it still a little bit upsetting, especially given Georgina is one of the most experienced cast member and I would like to see her with partner who as good as her in acting. So I hope, there will be enough Caye Rebe scenes in s4, their duo was hilarous in special, and Claudia and Georgina both are such talanted and good actresses.

My thoughts on Elite season 3 and Guznadia

I loved a lot of things, things like: 

1. Nadia’s and Lu’s storyline (even though i would have LOVE Lu to apologize to Nadia)

2. Rebeka! I just love her (If we have more seasons i need her to find love)

3. Everyone being there for Rebe when she was going to be expelled

4. Samuel’s and Guzman’s friendship

5. Guzman and Polo being there for Ander

6. Polo’s ending (How he was going to finally do the right thing)

7. Omar and his parents finally being amicable 

8. Ander being the voice of reason for his friends (His philosophy of living the present and not the future)

9. Ander and Nadia finally talking (Nadia saying he is her family)

10. Lu’s and Nadia’s speech ( how they acknowledge their friends at graduation and Nadia’s finally making clear she was on their side, even though that could jeopardize her future)

11. Nadia talking to her parents about NYC and that she was going even if she wasn't with Malick 

12. Guzman being completely and utterly in love with Nadia 

13. Guzman doing everything in his power to help Nadia with her goals 

14. Without a doubt this season my favorite character was Guzman, his character growth was lovely and i also love how he was so upfront about his feelings for Nadia (like always).

And things I definitely didn't love:

1. Valerio (Valerio was one of may favorite characters of season 2, this season he was just meh for me. I didn’t care about his storyline) 

2. Cayetana (this didn't surprise me, i didn't love her character on season 2 and I didn't love her on season 3)

3. Valerio not apologizing to Guzman and especially Nadia 

4. Valerio’s and Nadia’s friendship (I love their friendship last season, I would have love a continuation on their storyline) 

5. Omar being careless (cheating on his sick boyfriend with his sister boyfriend... WTF) 

6. Carla ( her storyline was boring, but i did feel sorry for her)

7. Yeray and Malick (I didn't like them, not one tiny bit.)

8. Samuel (I have never love him, and i don't know why. I just enjoy his interactions with Rebe and Guzman.)

On another note, let’s talk about Guznadia 

okay... I had a lot of things to do for my college courses so I wasn't able to started Élite until last night. I was excited because I was so convince that my OTP will FINALLY be together but now that I finished season 3 I really don’t know what to think. Of course I would have love more interactions between Nadia and Guzman but i’m not that mad about it, I’m just sad about the ending. 

It was a realistic ending and I love how Guzman didn't make Nadia feel bad for leaving him behind and chasing her dreams. But if this is the ending for them, if this is the last time we are going to see Guzman and Nadia, I'm completely disappointed, I would have love to see a more solid ending for them. Not an open ending.

On the other hand, if this is not the end of their story I still have hope. Hope that this is just one more obstacle in their relationship and that distance will only contribute to the epic love story of these two. If we have one more season I would love to see how Nadia and Guzman overcome their last obstacle, physical distance. Because they deserve it, they finally deserve to be happy and together. Because in my opinion, despite the fact that it all started as a stupid bet, this love story has proven to be the most solid and healthy of the entire series. They went from indifference, to friendship and then love. And even though both of them thought at the time that there was no possibility that they could be together, that did not stop them from demonstrating how much they meant to each other. How beautiful it was to see Nadia doing everything so that Guzman did not self-harm and how beautiful it was to see Guzman doing everything to help Nadia achieve her dreams. Their story has been a beautiful slow burn,  they took their time to get to know each other. They explored their friendship first and then explored the inevitable desire they had for each other. And that’s why I am not angry that their journey to their endgame is long because of all the couples in the series they have shown the best chance of success for the long haul. 

So, let’s hope for another season, one were Guzman can finally be happy, one were Nadia isn't afraid and hesitant to be officially with Guzman, one were we can see Nadia proudly telling her parents about her and Guzman, one were they are chasing their dreams together in NYC.

A mirror chapter to the last one, with Rebe's and Leo's reactions to what went down with Lu and Valerio.

"We… we didn't- nothing happened," Lu implored. "I was terrified and he comforted me, that was all."

That was all. Rebe wanted to scream.

Leo felt absolutely nothing.

Last night had been different. She had definitely felt things then. She had felt, for example, like the man she loved had spit in her face, pushed her to the ground and then shattered all the dreams she'd had for their future like cheap china, leaving her sitting among the shards.

Today is also the two-year anniversary of Close your eyes 🎂 I posted the first chapter two years ago, never imagining it would develop into this. I love the friendships I've made through this fic and I love my mutuals who are still reading this epic drama and sharing their reactions with me, including @asthmaticsarcasticasshole @drunkwildandfree @lyl-26 and @snappy-bambi
